Chapter 64

1 OH that thou wouldst rend the heavens and that thou wouldst come down, that the mountains might flee at thy presence;

2 That they might melt as wax melts before the fire, and that fire might devour thy enemies, that thy name might be made known to thy enemies, so that the nations might tremble at thy presence!

3 When thou didst wondrous things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains fled at thy presence.

4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, neither has the eye seen, O God, any besides thee, because of what thou doest for those that wait for thee.

5 Thou meetest with joy him that works righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways; behold, thou art wroth; for we have transgressed against thy ways, and yet we shall be saved.

6 For we have all become like an unclean thing, and all our righteousness is like filthy rags; we all fall off like leaves; and our iniquities, like the whirlwind, have taken us away.

7 There is none that calls upon thy name, that remembers to take hold of thee; for thou hast turned away thy face from us, and hast delivered us into the power of our sins.

8 But now, O LORD, thou art our Father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we are all the work of thy hand.

9 Be not very angry, O LORD, neither remember our sins for ever; behold, see, we are all thy people.

10 Thy holy cities have become a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.

11 Our holy and beautiful temple, where our fathers praised thee, is consumed with fire; and all our pleasant possessions are laid waste.

12 Because of these things thou hast restrained thyself, O LORD, and held thy peace, and afflicted us very sore.

2 durch die3381 Wunder, die du tust6213, deren man sich3372 nicht versiehet, da du herabfuhrest und die Berge2022 vor6440 dir zerflossen.

3 Wie denn2108 von der Welt her nicht238 gehöret ist6213, noch mit Ohren gehöret, hat8085 auch kein Auge gesehen7200, ohne dich, GOtt430, was denen geschieht, die5769 auf ihn5869 harren2442.

4 Du begegnetest den Fröhlichen7797 und6213 denen, so Gerechtigkeit6664 übeten und auf deinen Wegen1870 dein gedachten2142. Siehe, du zürnetest wohl7107, da wir sündigten2398 und lange drinnen blieben5769; uns ward aber dennoch geholfen3467.

5 Aber nun sind wir allesamt wie die Unreinen2931, und alle unsere Gerechtigkeit6666 ist wie ein unflätig5708 Kleid899. Wir sind alle verwelket wie die Blätter5929, und unsere Sünden5771 führen5375 uns dahin wie ein Wind7307.

6 Niemand ruft deinen Namen8034 an3027 oder macht sich auf6440, daß er7121 dich5641 halte; denn du5782 verbirgest dein Angesicht vor2388 uns und lässest uns in unsern Sünden5771 verschmachten4127.

7 Aber nun, HErr3068, du bist unser Vater1, wir sind Ton2563; du bist unser Töpfer3335, und wir alle sind deiner Hände3027 Werk4639.

8 HErr3068, zürne7107 nicht zu sehr3966 und denke nicht ewig5703 der Sünden5771! Siehe5027 doch das an2142, daß wir alle dein Volk5971 sind!

9 Die Städte5892 deines Heiligtums6944 sind zur Wüste4057 worden; Zion6726 ist zur Wüste4057 worden, Jerusalem3389 liegt zerstöret.

10 Das Haus1004 unserer Heiligkeit und8316 Herrlichkeit8597, darin dich unsere Väter1 gelobt1984 haben, ist6944 mit Feuer784 verbrannt, und2723 alles, was wir Schönes hatten4261, ist zuschanden gemacht.
