Chapter 5

1 AND Moses called all Israel, and said to them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your presence this day, that you may learn them, and keep and do them.

2 The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.

3 It was not with our fathers that the LORD made this covenant, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.

4 The LORD talked with you face to face in the mountain out of the midst of the fire,

5 (I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to declare to you the words of the LORD your God; for you were afraid because of the fire, and did not go up into the mountain), saying,

6 I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

7 You shall have no other gods besides me.

8 You shall not make for yourself any graven image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the waters under the earth;

9 You shall not worship them, nor serve them; for I the LORD your God am a zealous God, visiting the iniquities of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,

10 But showing mercy to thousands of generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

11 You shall not take an oath by the name of the LORD your God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes an oath by his name in vain.

12 Keep the sabbath day and sanctify it, as the LORD your God has commanded you.

13 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work;

14 But the seventh day is the sabbath to the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your ox, nor your ass, nor any of your cattle, nor the sojourner that is in your towns; that your manservant and your maidservant may rest as well as you.

15 And remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD your God brought you out thence by a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm; therefore the LORD your God has commanded you to keep the sabbath day.

16 Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you; that your days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with you, in the land which the LORD your God gives you.

17 You shall not kill.

18 You shall not commit adultery.

19 You shall not steal.

20 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

21 You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, neither shall you covet your neighbor's house, nor his field, nor his vineyard, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is your neighbor's.

22 These words the LORD spoke to all the assembly on the mountain out of the midst of the fire, in the cloud and in the thick darkness, with a loud voice which cannot be measured. And he wrote them upon two tablets of stone, and gave them to me.

23 And when you heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness and saw the mountain burning with fire, you came near to me, all the heads of your tribes and your elders;

24 And you said, Behold, the LORD our God has shown us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire; and have seen this day that God does talk with man, and that he lives.

25 Now therefore why should we die? For this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.

26 For who is there of all flesh, that has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

27 Go near and hear all that the LORD our God shall say; and speak to us all that the LORD our God shall speak to you; and we will hear it and do it.

28 And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when you spoke to me; and the LORD said to me, I have heard the voice of the people and the words which they have spoken to you; they have well said all that they have spoken.

29 O that there were such a heart in them, to worship, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them and with their children for ever!

30 Go and say to them, Return to your tents.

31 But as for you, stand here before me, and I will tell you all my commandments and my statutes and my judgments, which you shall teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess.

32 You must observe and do therefore as the LORD your God has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

33 You shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess.

4 Er3068 hat1696 von6440 Angesicht zu Angesicht mit uns aus8432 dem Feuer784 auf6440 dem Berge2022 geredet.

5 Ich stund zu derselben Zeit6256 zwischen dem HErrn3068 und euch3372, daß ich euch ansagte5046 des HErrn3068 Wort1697; denn ihn fürchtetet euch vor6440 dem Feuer784 und ginget5927 nicht auf5975 den Berg2022. Und er sprach559:

6 Ich bin der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, der dich aus3318 Ägyptenland776 geführet hat, aus dem Diensthause1004.

7 Du sollst keine andern312 Götter430 haben vor mir6440.

8 Du sollst dir kein Bildnis6459 machen6213 einigerlei Gleichnis8544, weder oben4605 im Himmel8064, noch unten auf Erden776, noch im Wasser4325 unter der Erde776.

9 Du sollst sie nicht anbeten7812 noch ihnen dienen5647. Denn ich bin8130 der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, ein eifriger7067 GOtt410, der die Missetat5771 der Väter1 heimsucht über6485 die Kinder1121 ins dritte8029 und vierte7256 Glied, die mich hassen,

11 Du sollst den Namen8034 des HErrn3068, deines Gottes430, nicht5375 mißbrauchen7723; denn der HErr3068 wird den nicht5375 ungestraft lassen5352, der seinen Namen8034 mißbrauchet.

12 Den Sabbattag7676 sollst du halten8104, daß du ihn heiligest6942, wie3117 dir der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, geboten6680 hat.

13 Sechs8337 Tage3117 sollst du arbeiten5647 und alle deine Werke4399 tun6213.

14 Aber am siebenten7637 Tage3117 ist der Sabbat7676 des HErrn3068, deines Gottes430. Da sollst du keine Arbeit tun6213, noch dein Sohn1121, noch deine Tochter1323, noch dein Knecht5650, noch deine Magd519, noch dein Ochse7794, noch dein Esel2543, noch all dein Vieh4399, noch der Fremdling1616, der in deinen Toren8179 ist, auf daß dein Knecht5650 und deine Magd519 ruhe5117, gleichwie du.

15 Denn du sollst gedenken2142, daß du auch Knecht5650 in Ägyptenland776 warst, und6213 der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, dich von3318 dannen ausgeführet hat mit einer mächtigen2389 Hand3027 und3117 ausgerecktem5186 Arm2220. 16 Du sollst deinen Vater1 und5414 deine Mutter517 ehren3513, wie dir3190 der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, geboten6680 hat, auf daß du lange748 lebest, und daß dir‘s wohlgehe in dem Lande127, das dir der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, geben3117 wird.

17 Du sollst nicht töten7523.

18 Du sollst nicht ehebrechen5003.

19 Du sollst nicht stehlen1589.

22 Das1697 sind die Worte, die der HErr3068 redete1696 zu3254 euren ganzen Gemeine auf8432 dem Berge2022 aus dem Feuer784 und der Wolke6051 und Dunkel6205 mit großer1419 Stimme6963, und tat nichts dazu; und schrieb3789 sie6951 auf zwo steinerne68 Tafeln3871 und gab5414 sie8147 mir.

23 Da ihr7126 aber die Stimme6963 aus der Finsternis2822 höretet und den Berg2022 mit Feuer784 brennen1197 tratet ihr zu8085 mir; alle Obersten7218 unter8432 euren Stämmen7626 und eure Ältesten2205,

24 und sprachet: Siehe, der HErr3068, unser GOtt430, hat8085 uns lassen sehen7200 seine Herrlichkeit3519 und seine Majestät1433; und wir haben seine Stimme6963 aus8432 dem Feuer784 gehöret. Heutigestages3117 haben wir gesehen7200; daß GOtt430 mit Menschen120 redet1696, und sie559 lebendig bleiben2425.

25 Und nun, warum sollen wir sterben4191, daß uns8085 dies große1419 Feuer784 verzehre398? Wenn wir des HErrn3068, unsers Gottes430, Stimme6963 mehr3254 hören, so müssen wir sterben4191.

26 Denn was ist alles Fleisch1320, daß es hören8085 möge die Stimme6963 des lebendigen2416 Gottes430 aus8432 dem Feuer784 reden1696, wie wir, und lebendig2421 bleibe?

27 Tritt7126 du hinzu und höre8085 alles, was der HErr3068, unser GOtt430, sagt, und sage559 es uns8085. Alles, was der HErr3068, unser GOtt430, mit dir reden1696 wird1696, das wollen wir hören und tun6213.

28 Da aber der HErr3068 eure6963 Worte1697 hörete, die ihr6963 mit mir redetet, sprach559 er3068 zur mir: Ich habe1696 gehöret die Worte1696 dieses Volks5971, die sie mit dir3190 geredet haben8085; es ist1696 alles1697 gut, was sie geredet haben8085.

29 Ach4310, daß sie5414 ein solch2088 Herz3824 hätten, mich zu fürchten3372 und zu halten8104 alle3117 meine Gebote4687 ihr lebenlang, auf daß es3190 ihnen wohlginge und ihren Kindern1121 ewiglich5769!

30 Gehe3212 hin und sage559 ihnen7725: Gehet heim in eure Hütten168!

31 Du aber sollst1696 hie vor mir5978 stehen5975, daß ich mit dir rede alle Gesetze2706 und Gebote4687 und Rechte4941, die du sie lehren3925 sollst, daß sie danach tun6213 im Lande, das776 ich ihnen geben5414 werde einzunehmen3423.

33 sondern wandelt3212 in allen1870 Wegen, die euch der HErr3068, euer GOtt430, geboten6680 hat, auf daß ihr leben2421 möget, und3117 euch wohlgehe, und lange748 lebet im Lande, das776 ihr einnehmen3423 werdet.
