Ezekiel

Chapter 33

1 AND the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

2 Son of man, speak to your own people and say to them, When I bring the sword upon a land, let the people of the land take a man from among them and make him their watchman.

3 And when he sees the sword coming upon them, he shall blow the trumpet and warn the people;

4 Then whosoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not heed the warning, if the sword should come and take his life away, his blood shall be upon his own head.

5 But if he should take heed, he shall deliver his life.

6 But when the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet and does not warn the people, and the sword comes and takes the life from among them, that life is taken away in his iniquity; but I will require his blood at the watchman's hand.

7 So you, O Son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Israel: therefore you shall hear the word from my mouth, you shall warn them from me.

8 When I say to the wicked, O wicked man, you shall surely die; and you do not speak to the wicked man that he may take heed from his evil way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hands.

9 Nevertheless, if you warn the wicked that he may turn from his evil way; and if he does not turn from his evil way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.

10 You therefore, O Son of man, say to the house of Israel. Thus have you spoken, saying, Our iniquity and our sins be upon us, and we are pining away in them; how can we live?

11 Say to them, As I live, says the LORD God, I do not desire the death of the wicked; but that the wicked should turn from his evil way and live; therefore you must repent and turn from your evil ways, and you shall not die, O house of Israel.

12 Therefore, Son of man, say to your own people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day that he sins; as for the iniquity of the wicked, he shall not fall by it in the day when he turns from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live because of his righteousness in the day that he sins.

13 When I shall say to the righteous that he shall surely live, and he trusts in his own righteousness and then commits iniquity, all his righteousness which he had done shall not be remembered to him; but for the iniquity which he has committed, he shall die.

14 Again, when I say to the wicked, You shall surely die, and he turns from his sins and does that which is just and right,

15 And he shall restore the pledge which he has taken and return what he has acquired unjustly and walk in the commandments of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.

16 None of his sins which he has committed shall be remembered to him; but by the justice and righteousness which he has done, he shall surely live.

17 Yet your people say, The way of the LORD is not fair; but it is their own ways that are not fair.

18 When a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he shall die in his iniquity.

19 And when a wicked man turns from his wickedness and does that which is just and right, he shall live thereby.

20 Yet you say, The way of the LORD is not fair; O house of Israel, I will judge every one of you according to his ways.

21 And it came to pass in the eleventh year of our captivity, in the tenth month, on the fifth day of the month, that one who had escaped from Jerusalem came and said to me, The city has been destroyed.

22 Now the hand of the LORD had been upon me in the evening, before he who had escaped came; and had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened and I was dumb no more.

23 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

24 Son of man, those who inhabit these waste places of the land of Israel are saying, Abraham was only one man, and yet he inherited the land; but we are many; are we not going to inherit it?

25 Therefore say to them, Thus says the LORD God: Because you eat meat with the blood and lift up your eyes toward your idols and drink blood, do you expect to inherit the land?

26 You rely on your swords, you commit abomination, and you defile every one his neighbor's wife; and do you expect to inherit the land?

27 Say to them, Thus says the LORD God: As I live, all of those who dwell in the waste places shall fall by the sword; and he that is in the open field, I will give to the wild beasts to be devoured, and those who are in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence.

28 For I will lay the land desolate and waste, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through.

29 Then shall they know that I am the LORD, when I have laid the land desolate and waste because of their abominations which they have committed.

30 And as for you, O Son of man, your people are gossiping about you by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come and hear what is the word that comes forth from the LORD.

31 And the people come to you and sit before you, and they hear your words, but they will not do them, because their mouths are full of falsehood and they follow after the thoughts of their own hearts.

32 And, lo, you are to them like a song and like a pleasant voice and like the sweet sound of a harp; for they hear your words, but they do them not.

33 And when your words shall come to pass, then they shall know that you are a prophet among them.

Chapter 33

1 Again the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 to me, saying,559

2 Son1121 of man,120 speak1696 to the children1121 of your people,5971 and say559 to them, When3588 I bring935 the sword2719 on a land,776 if the people5971 of the land776 take3947 a man376 of their coasts,7097 and set5414 him for their watchman:6822

3 If when he sees7200 the sword2719 come935 on the land,776 he blow8628 the trumpet,7782 and warn2094 the people;5971

4 Then whoever hears8085 the sound6963 of the trumpet,7782 and takes not warning;2094 if the sword2719 come,935 and take3947 him away, his blood1818 shall be on his own head.7218

5 He heard8085 the sound6963 of the trumpet,7782 and took not warning;2094 his blood1818 shall be on him. But he that takes warning2094 shall deliver4422 his soul.5315

6 But if3588 the watchman6822 see7200 the sword2719 come,935 and blow8628 not the trumpet,7782 and the people5971 be not warned;2094 if the sword2719 come,935 and take3947 any person5315 from among them, he is taken3947 away in his iniquity;5771 but his blood1818 will I require1875 at the watchman's6822 hand.3027

7 So you, O son1121 of man,120 I have set5414 you a watchman6822 to the house1004 of Israel;3478 therefore you shall hear8085 the word1697 at my mouth,6310 and warn2094 them from me.

8 When I say559 to the wicked,7563 O wicked7563 man, you shall surely die;4191 if you do not speak1696 to warn2094 the wicked7563 from his way,1870 that wicked7563 man shall die4191 in his iniquity;5771 but his blood1818 will I require1245 at your hand.3027

9 Nevertheless, if3588 you warn2094 the wicked7563 of his way1870 to turn7725 from it; if he do not turn7725 from his way,1870 he shall die4191 in his iniquity;5771 but you have delivered5337 your soul.5315

10 Therefore, O you son1121 of man,120 speak559 to the house1004 of Israel;3478 Thus3651 you speak,559 saying,559 If3588 our transgressions6588 and our sins2403 be on us, and we pine4743 away in them, how349 should we then live?2421

11 Say559 to them, As I live,2416 said5002 the Lord136 GOD,3069 I have no518 pleasure2654 in the death4194 of the wicked;7563 but that the wicked7563 turn7725 from his way1870 and live:2421 turn7725 you, turn7725 you from your evil7451 ways;1870 for why4100 will you die,4191 O house1004 of Israel?3478

12 Therefore, you son1121 of man,120 say559 to the children1121 of your people,5971 The righteousness6666 of the righteous6662 shall not deliver5337 him in the day3117 of his transgression:6588 as for the wickedness7564 of the wicked,7563 he shall not fall3782 thereby in the day3117 that he turns7725 from his wickedness;7562 neither3808 shall the righteous6662 be able3201 to live2421 for his righteousness in the day3117 that he sins.2398

13 When I shall say559 to the righteous,6662 that he shall surely live;2421 if he trust982 to his own righteousness,6666 and commit6213 iniquity,5766 all3605 his righteousnesses6666 shall not be remembered;2142 but for his iniquity5766 that he has committed,6213 he shall die4191 for it.

14 Again, when I say559 to the wicked,7563 You shall surely die;4191 if he turn7725 from his sin,2403 and do6213 that which is lawful4941 and right;6666

15 If the wicked7563 restore7725 the pledge,2258 give7999 again7999 that he had robbed,1500 walk1980 in the statutes2708 of life,2416 without1115 committing6213 iniquity;5766 he shall surely live,2421 he shall not die.4191

16 None3808 of his sins2403 that he has committed2398 shall be mentioned2142 to him: he has done6213 that which is lawful4941 and right;6666 he shall surely live.2421

17 Yet the children1121 of your people5971 say,559 The way1870 of the Lord136 is not equal:8505 but as for them, their way1870 is not equal.8505

18 When the righteous6662 turns7725 from his righteousness,6666 and commits6213 iniquity,5766 he shall even die4191 thereby.

19 But if the wicked7563 turn7725 from his wickedness,7564 and do6213 that which is lawful4941 and right,6666 he shall live2421 thereby.

20 Yet you say,559 The way1870 of the Lord136 is not equal.8505 O you house1004 of Israel,3478 I will judge8199 you every376 one376 after his ways.1870

21 And it came1961 to pass in the twelfth8147 6240 year8141 of our captivity,1546 in the tenth6224 month, in the fifth2568 day of the month,2320 that one that had escaped6412 out of Jerusalem3389 came935 to me, saying,559 The city5892 is smitten.5221

22 Now the hand3027 of the LORD3068 was on me in the evening,6153 before6440 he that was escaped6412 came;935 and had opened6605 my mouth,6310 until5704 he came935 to me in the morning;1242 and my mouth6310 was opened,6605 and I was no3808 more5750 dumb.481

23 Then the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 to me, saying,559

24 Son1121 of man,120 they that inhabit3427 those428 wastes2723 of the land127 of Israel3478 speak,559 saying,559 Abraham85 was one,259 and he inherited3423 the land:776 but we are many;7227 the land776 is given5414 us for inheritance.4181

25 Why3651 say559 to them, Thus3541 said559 the Lord136 GOD;3069 You eat398 with the blood,1818 and lift5375 up your eyes5869 toward413 your idols,1544 and shed8210 blood:1818 and shall you possess3423 the land?776

26 You stand5975 on your sword,2719 you work6213 abomination,8441 and you defile2930 every376 one376 his neighbor's7453 wife:802 and shall you possess3423 the land?776

27 Say559 you thus3541 to them, Thus3541 said559 the Lord136 GOD;3069 As I live,2416 surely518 3808 they that are in the wastes2723 shall fall5307 by the sword,2719 and him that is in the open6440 field7704 will I give5414 to the beasts2416 to be devoured,398 and they that be in the forts4679 and in the caves4631 shall die4191 of the pestilence.1698

28 For I will lay5414 the land776 most desolate,8077 and the pomp1347 of her strength5797 shall cease;7673 and the mountains2022 of Israel3478 shall be desolate,8074 that none369 shall pass5674 through.

29 Then shall they know3045 that I am the LORD,3068 when I have laid5414 the land776 most desolate8077 because5921 of all3605 their abominations8441 which834 they have committed.6213

30 Also, you son1121 of man,120 the children1121 of your people5971 still are talking1696 against you by the walls7023 and in the doors6607 of the houses,1004 and speak1696 one2297 to another,259 every376 one376 to his brother,251 saying,559 Come,935 I pray4994 you, and hear8085 what4100 is the word1697 that comes3318 forth3318 from the LORD.3068

31 And they come935 to you as the people5971 comes,935 and they sit3427 before6440 you as my people,5971 and they hear8085 your words,1697 but they will not do6213 them: for with their mouth6310 they show6213 much love,5690 but their heart3820 goes1980 after310 their covetousness.1215

32 And, see,2009 you are to them as a very5690 lovely5690 song7892 of one that has a pleasant3303 voice,6963 and can play5059 well on an instrument: for they hear8085 your words,1697 but they do6213 them not.

33 And when this comes935 to pass, (see,2009 it will come,935) then shall they know3045 that a prophet5030 has been1961 among8432 them.

Chapter 33

1 AND the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

1 Again the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 to me, saying,559

2 Son of man, speak to your own people and say to them, When I bring the sword upon a land, let the people of the land take a man from among them and make him their watchman.

3 And when he sees the sword coming upon them, he shall blow the trumpet and warn the people;

3 If when he sees7200 the sword2719 come935 on the land,776 he blow8628 the trumpet,7782 and warn2094 the people;5971

4 Then whosoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not heed the warning, if the sword should come and take his life away, his blood shall be upon his own head.

4 Then whoever hears8085 the sound6963 of the trumpet,7782 and takes not warning;2094 if the sword2719 come,935 and take3947 him away, his blood1818 shall be on his own head.7218

5 But if he should take heed, he shall deliver his life.

5 He heard8085 the sound6963 of the trumpet,7782 and took not warning;2094 his blood1818 shall be on him. But he that takes warning2094 shall deliver4422 his soul.5315

6 But when the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet and does not warn the people, and the sword comes and takes the life from among them, that life is taken away in his iniquity; but I will require his blood at the watchman's hand.

7 So you, O Son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Israel: therefore you shall hear the word from my mouth, you shall warn them from me.

7 So you, O son1121 of man,120 I have set5414 you a watchman6822 to the house1004 of Israel;3478 therefore you shall hear8085 the word1697 at my mouth,6310 and warn2094 them from me.

8 When I say to the wicked, O wicked man, you shall surely die; and you do not speak to the wicked man that he may take heed from his evil way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hands.

9 Nevertheless, if you warn the wicked that he may turn from his evil way; and if he does not turn from his evil way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.

9 Nevertheless, if3588 you warn2094 the wicked7563 of his way1870 to turn7725 from it; if he do not turn7725 from his way,1870 he shall die4191 in his iniquity;5771 but you have delivered5337 your soul.5315

10 You therefore, O Son of man, say to the house of Israel. Thus have you spoken, saying, Our iniquity and our sins be upon us, and we are pining away in them; how can we live?

10 Therefore, O you son1121 of man,120 speak559 to the house1004 of Israel;3478 Thus3651 you speak,559 saying,559 If3588 our transgressions6588 and our sins2403 be on us, and we pine4743 away in them, how349 should we then live?2421

11 Say to them, As I live, says the LORD God, I do not desire the death of the wicked; but that the wicked should turn from his evil way and live; therefore you must repent and turn from your evil ways, and you shall not die, O house of Israel.

13 When I shall say to the righteous that he shall surely live, and he trusts in his own righteousness and then commits iniquity, all his righteousness which he had done shall not be remembered to him; but for the iniquity which he has committed, he shall die.

14 Again, when I say to the wicked, You shall surely die, and he turns from his sins and does that which is just and right,

14 Again, when I say559 to the wicked,7563 You shall surely die;4191 if he turn7725 from his sin,2403 and do6213 that which is lawful4941 and right;6666

15 And he shall restore the pledge which he has taken and return what he has acquired unjustly and walk in the commandments of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.

15 If the wicked7563 restore7725 the pledge,2258 give7999 again7999 that he had robbed,1500 walk1980 in the statutes2708 of life,2416 without1115 committing6213 iniquity;5766 he shall surely live,2421 he shall not die.4191

16 None of his sins which he has committed shall be remembered to him; but by the justice and righteousness which he has done, he shall surely live.

16 None3808 of his sins2403 that he has committed2398 shall be mentioned2142 to him: he has done6213 that which is lawful4941 and right;6666 he shall surely live.2421

17 Yet your people say, The way of the LORD is not fair; but it is their own ways that are not fair.

17 Yet the children1121 of your people5971 say,559 The way1870 of the Lord136 is not equal:8505 but as for them, their way1870 is not equal.8505

18 When a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he shall die in his iniquity.

18 When the righteous6662 turns7725 from his righteousness,6666 and commits6213 iniquity,5766 he shall even die4191 thereby.

19 And when a wicked man turns from his wickedness and does that which is just and right, he shall live thereby.

19 But if the wicked7563 turn7725 from his wickedness,7564 and do6213 that which is lawful4941 and right,6666 he shall live2421 thereby.

20 Yet you say, The way of the LORD is not fair; O house of Israel, I will judge every one of you according to his ways.

20 Yet you say,559 The way1870 of the Lord136 is not equal.8505 O you house1004 of Israel,3478 I will judge8199 you every376 one376 after his ways.1870

21 And it came to pass in the eleventh year of our captivity, in the tenth month, on the fifth day of the month, that one who had escaped from Jerusalem came and said to me, The city has been destroyed.

22 Now the hand of the LORD had been upon me in the evening, before he who had escaped came; and had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened and I was dumb no more.

23 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

23 Then the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 to me, saying,559

24 Son of man, those who inhabit these waste places of the land of Israel are saying, Abraham was only one man, and yet he inherited the land; but we are many; are we not going to inherit it?

24 Son1121 of man,120 they that inhabit3427 those428 wastes2723 of the land127 of Israel3478 speak,559 saying,559 Abraham85 was one,259 and he inherited3423 the land:776 but we are many;7227 the land776 is given5414 us for inheritance.4181

25 Therefore say to them, Thus says the LORD God: Because you eat meat with the blood and lift up your eyes toward your idols and drink blood, do you expect to inherit the land?

25 Why3651 say559 to them, Thus3541 said559 the Lord136 GOD;3069 You eat398 with the blood,1818 and lift5375 up your eyes5869 toward413 your idols,1544 and shed8210 blood:1818 and shall you possess3423 the land?776

26 You rely on your swords, you commit abomination, and you defile every one his neighbor's wife; and do you expect to inherit the land?

26 You stand5975 on your sword,2719 you work6213 abomination,8441 and you defile2930 every376 one376 his neighbor's7453 wife:802 and shall you possess3423 the land?776

27 Say to them, Thus says the LORD God: As I live, all of those who dwell in the waste places shall fall by the sword; and he that is in the open field, I will give to the wild beasts to be devoured, and those who are in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence.

28 For I will lay the land desolate and waste, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through.

28 For I will lay5414 the land776 most desolate,8077 and the pomp1347 of her strength5797 shall cease;7673 and the mountains2022 of Israel3478 shall be desolate,8074 that none369 shall pass5674 through.

29 Then shall they know that I am the LORD, when I have laid the land desolate and waste because of their abominations which they have committed.

29 Then shall they know3045 that I am the LORD,3068 when I have laid5414 the land776 most desolate8077 because5921 of all3605 their abominations8441 which834 they have committed.6213

30 And as for you, O Son of man, your people are gossiping about you by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come and hear what is the word that comes forth from the LORD.

31 And the people come to you and sit before you, and they hear your words, but they will not do them, because their mouths are full of falsehood and they follow after the thoughts of their own hearts.

32 And, lo, you are to them like a song and like a pleasant voice and like the sweet sound of a harp; for they hear your words, but they do them not.

32 And, see,2009 you are to them as a very5690 lovely5690 song7892 of one that has a pleasant3303 voice,6963 and can play5059 well on an instrument: for they hear8085 your words,1697 but they do6213 them not.

33 And when your words shall come to pass, then they shall know that you are a prophet among them.

33 And when this comes935 to pass, (see,2009 it will come,935) then shall they know3045 that a prophet5030 has been1961 among8432 them.
