Chapter 7

1 WHEN the LORD your God shall bring you into the land which you are entering to possess, and has destroyed many nations before you, the Hittites, the Girgasites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than yourselves;

2 And when the LORD your God shall deliver them before you, and you shall defeat them; then you shall utterly destroy them; you shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them;

3 Neither shall you make marriages with them; you shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor take their daughters for your sons,

4 That they may not turn away your sons from following me, and serve other gods; and then the anger of the LORD would kindle against you and destroy you quickly.

5 But thus shall you deal with them: you shall destroy their altars and break down their statues and cut down their ornaments and burn their graven images with fire.

6 For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a beloved people to himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

7 It was not because you were more in number than any other peoples that the LORD was delighted in you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples;

8 But it was because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oaths which he had sworn to your fathers, that the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and delivered you out of the house of bondage from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt,

9 That you may know therefore that the LORD your God, he is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and mercy with those that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations,

10 And repays those that hate him during their lifetime; he requites them that he may destroy them; he shall not be slack to those that hate him, but he repays them during their lifetime.

11 You shall therefore keep the commandments and the statutes and the judgments which I command you this day, and do them.

12 Wherefore if you hearken to these judgments, and keep them and do them, the LORD your God shall keep with you the covenant and the mercy which he swore to your fathers;

13 And he will love you and bless you and multiply you; he will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land, your grain and your wine and your oil, the increase of your cattle and the flocks of your sheep, in the land which he swore to your fathers to give you.

14 You shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be male or female barren among you or among your cattle.

15 And the LORD will take away from you all sickness; and all evil diseases of the Egyptians, which you know, he will not bring upon you; but will bring them upon your enemies.

16 And you shall consume all the peoples that the LORD your God shall deliver to you; your eye shall have no pity upon them; neither shall you serve their gods; for they are a snare to you.

17 If you shall say in your heart, These nations are greater than I; how will I be able to destroy them?

18 You shall not be afraid of them; but you shall remember what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt;

19 The great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, whereby the LORD your God brought you out; so shall the LORD your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.

20 Moreover the LORD your God will send raiders among them, until they that are left and hide themselves from you, are destroyed.

21 You shall not be afraid of them, for the LORD your God is among you, a great and terrible God.

22 And the LORD your God will destroy those nations from before you little by little; you will not be able to destroy them quickly, lest the wild beasts increase upon you.

23 But the LORD your God shall deliver them to you, and shall smite them with a great destruction, until they are destroyed.

24 And he shall deliver their kings into your hands, and you shall destroy their name from under heaven; there shall no man be able to stand before you, until you have destroyed them.

25 The graven images of their gods you shall burn with fire; you shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, lest you become unclean with it; for it is an abomination before the LORD your God.

26 Neither shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be a cursed thing like it; but you shall utterly detest it, and you shall utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.

2 und wenn sie2763 der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, vor6440 dir gibt5414, daß du5221 sie schlägst: so sollst du sie verbannen2763, daß du keinen Bund1285 mit ihnen machest3772 noch ihnen Gunst erzeigest2603.

3 Und sollst dich mit ihnen nicht befreunden2859. Eure Töchter1323 sollt ihr nicht geben5414 ihren Söhnen1121, und ihre Töchter1323 sollt ihr nicht nehmen3947 euren Söhnen1121;

4 denn sie werden5493 eure Söhne1121 mir abfällig machen, daß sie andern312 Göttern dienen5647; so wird dann des HErrn3068 Zorn639 ergrimmen2734 über euch310 und430 euch bald4118 vertilgen8045.

5 Sondern also sollt ihr mit ihnen tun6213: Ihre Altäre4196 sollt ihr zerreißen, ihre Säulen zerbrechen5422, ihre Haine842 abhauen1438 und ihre Götzen4676 mit Feuer784 verbrennen8313.

6 Denn du bist ein heilig6918 Volk5971 GOtt430, deinem HErrn3068. Dich hat977 GOtt430, dein HErr3068, erwählet zum Volk5971 des Eigentums5459 aus allen Völkern5971, die auf6440 Erden127 sind.

7 Nicht2836 hat977 euch der HErr3068 angenommen und euch erwählet, daß euer mehr7230 wäre denn alle Völker5971; denn du bist das wenigste unter allen Völkern5971;

8 sondern daß er euch geliebet hat6299, und3068 daß er seinen Eid7621 hielte, den er euren Vätern1 geschworen7650 hat, hat er euch ausgeführet mit mächtiger2389 Hand3027 und3068 hat dich8104 erlöset von dem Hause1004 des Dienstes5650, aus3318 der Hand3027 Pharaos6547, des Königs4428 in Ägypten4714.

9 So sollst du nun wissen3045, daß der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, ein GOtt430 ist539, ein treuer GOtt410, der den Bund1285 und Barmherzigkeit2617 hält8104 denen, die ihn lieben157 und seine Gebote4687 halten8104, in tausend505 Glied1755,

13 und6251 wird dich lieben und segnen1288 und mehren7235 und wird die Frucht6529 deines Leibes990 segnen1288 und die Frucht6529 deines Landes127, dein Getreide1715, Most8492 und Öl3323, die Früchte7698 deiner Kühe504 und die Früchte deiner Schafe6629 auf dem Lande127, das er deinen Vätern1 geschworen7650 hat157, dir zu geben5414.

14 Gesegnet1288 wirst du sein über alle Völker5971. Es wird niemand6135 unter dir unfruchtbar6135 sein, noch unter deinem Vieh929.

15 Der HErr3068 wird von dir tun alle Krankheit2483 und wird keine böse7451 Seuche4064 der Ägypter4714 dir auflegen7760, die du erfahren3045 hast5414; und wird sie5493 allen8130 deinen Hassern auflegen.

16 Du wirst5647 alle Völker5971 fressen398, die der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, dir geben5414 wird. Du sollst ihrer nicht schonen2347 und430 ihren Göttern nicht dienen; denn das würde dir ein Strick4170 sein5869.

17 Wirst du aber in deinem Herzen3824 sagen559: Dieses Volks1471 ist mehr7227, denn ich bin; wie349 kann3201 ich sie vertreiben3423?

18 so fürchte3372 dich nicht vor ihnen2142. Gedenke2142, was der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, Pharao6547 und allen Ägyptern4714 getan6213 hat

19 durch große1419 Versuchung, die du mit Augen5869 gesehen7200 hast, und3318 durch Zeichen226 und Wunder4159, durch eine mächtige2389 Hand3027 und ausgereckten5186 Arm2220, damit dich der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, ausführete. Also wird der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, allen Völkern5971 tun6213, vor6440 denen du dich fürchtest.

20 Dazu wird der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, Hornissen6880 unter6440 sie senden7971, bis umgebracht6 werde5641, was übrig7604 ist und sich verbirget vor dir.

21 Laß dir nicht grauen6206 vor ihnen7130; denn der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, ist unter6440 dir, der große1419 und schreckliche3372 GOtt410.

22 Er, der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, wird diese Leute1471 ausrotten5394 vor dir, einzeln4592 nacheinander4592. Du kannst3201 sie nicht eilend4118 vertilgen, auf6440 daß sich nicht wider dich mehren7235 die411 Tiere2416 auf3615 dem Felde7704.

23 Der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, wird sie vor6440 dir geben5414 und wird sie mit großer1419 Schlacht4103 erschlagen1949, bis er sie vertilge8045.

24 Und wird dir ihre Könige4428 in deine Hände3027 geben5414, und sollst ihren Namen8034 umbringen6 unter6440 dem Himmel8064. Es wird dir niemand376 widerstehen3320, bis du sie vertilgest.

25 Die Bilder6456 ihrer Götter430 sollst du mit Feuer784 verbrennen8313 und sollst nicht begehren2530 des Silbers3701 oder Goldes2091, das dran ist3947, oder zu dir nehmen, daß du dich nicht drinnen verfähest; denn solches ist dem HErrn3068, deinem GOtt430, ein Greuel8441.

26 Darum sollst du nicht in dein Haus1004 den Greuel8441 bringen, daß2764 du nicht verbannet werdest, wie dasselbe8262 ist935, sondern du sollst einen8581 Ekel und Greuel8581 daran haben, denn es ist verbannet.
