Chapter 3

1 THEN we turned and went up the way to Mathnin; and Og the king of Mathnin came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Erdei.

2 And the LORD said to me, Do not fear him; for I have delivered him, and all his people and his land into your hand; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon.

3 So the LORD our God delivered into our hand Og also, the king of Mathnin, and all his people; and we smote him until none was left to him surviving.

4 And we captured all his cities at that time, and we left not a city which we did not take from them, sixty cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Mathnin.

5 All these cities were fenced with high walls, gates, and bars; besides the suburban towns a great many.

6 And we utterly destroyed them, as we did to Sihon the king of Heshbon, for we utterly destroyed all his cities, even the women and the little ones.

7 But all the cattle and the spoil of the cities, we took for a prey to ourselves.

8 And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites the land that was on this side of the Jordan, from the river Arnon to mount Hermon

9 (The Sidonians call Hermon Sirion, and the Amorites call it Senir),

10 All the cities of the plain and all Gilead and all Mathnin as far as Salcah and Erdei, all the cities of the kingdom of Og in Mathnin.

11 For only Og the king of Mathnin remained of the remnant of the giants; behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; and behold, it is in Rabbath of the children of Ammon, nine cubits long and four cubits broad, according to the measure of the cubit of giants.

12 And this land we possessed at that time, from Adoer, which is by the river of Arnon; and half of mount Gilead, and its cities, I gave to the Reubenites and to the Gadites.

13 And the rest of Gilead, and all Mathnin, being the kingdom of Og. I gave to the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Mathnin, which is called the land of giants.

14 Jair the son of Manasseh took for himself all the region of Argob as far as the border of Geshur and Maachath; and called them after his own name, Mathnin and Caproney Jair, to this day.

15 To Machir I gave Gilead.

16 And to the Reubenites and to the Gadites I gave the region from Gilead as far as the valley of Arnon, and the inside of the valley, and its border as far as the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon;

17 Along with the desert plain, and the Jordan, and the territory thereof, front Chinnereth as far as the sea of Arabah, the Salt Sea, which lies at the foot of Ashdod and Pisgah which is in the hilly country eastward.

18 And I commanded you at that time, saying, The LORD your God has given you this land to possess it; you shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all of you who are valiant men of war.

19 But your wives and your little ones and your cattle (for I know that you have much cattle) shall remain in your cities which I have given you

20 Until the LORD have given rest to your brethren, as he has given to you, and until they also possess the land which the LORD your God is giving them beyond the Jordan; and then shall you return every man to the possession which I have given you.

21 And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Your eyes have seen all that the LORD your God has done to these two kings; so shall the LORD do to all these kingdoms through which you are going.

22 You shall not fear them; for it is the LORD your God who is fighting for you.

23 And I besought the LORD at that time, saying,

24 I beseech thee O LORD God, thou who hast begun to show thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand, and thy outstretched arm (for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do according to thy works and according to thy mighty deeds?),

25 I pray thee, let me now go over and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.

26 But the LORD was wroth with me on your account, and would not hearken to me; and the LORD said to me, Let it suffice for you; speak no more before me of this matter.

27 Go up to the top of the hill (Pisgah) and lift up your eyes eastward and westward and northward and southward, and behold it with your eyes; for you shall not cross this Jordan.

28 But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you shall see.

29 So we dwelt in the valley opposite Beth-peor.

1 Потом мы повернули на север и пошли по дороге к Башану. Ог, царь Башана, выступил против нас со всем своим войском, чтобы сразиться с нами у Эдреи.

2 ГОСПОДЬ же сказал мне: „Не бойся его: Я отдал его в твои руки вместе со всеми его людьми и землею его. Сделай с ним то же, что сделал ты с Сихоном, царем амореев, жившим в Хешбоне“.

3 ГОСПОДЬ, Бог наш, действительно отдал в наши руки Ога, царя Башана, и всех воинов его — мы разбили их наголову. И опять — ни одного уцелевшего.

4 Тогда мы захватили все его города. Не осталось ни одного, который бы мы не взяли, — шестьдесят городов и всю область Аргов, владение Ога в Башане.

5 А ведь города те были укреплены: со стенами высокими и воротами крепкими с засовами надежными, — не говоря уже о многих неукрепленных селениях.

6 Мы предали те города заклятию, как сделали то с городами Сихона, царя Хешбона. Истребили мы там всех жителей: и мужчин, и женщин, и детей.

7 Только скот и взятую в тех городах военную добычу оставили себе.

8 И вот мы захватили тогда земли этих двух царей аморейских на восточной стороне Иордана, их владения от реки Арнон до горы Ермон

9 (сидоняне называют эту гору Сирионом, амореи — Сениром),

10 взяли все города на равнине, и весь Гилад, и Башан тоже весь до Салхи и Эдреи — городов в царстве Ога, в Башане.

11 (Этот Ог, царь Башана, был последним из рефаимов. Примечательно, что ложе его из железа, длиною оно в девять обычных мужских локтей, шириною — в четыре. Его и теперь еще можно увидеть в Раббе Аммонской.)

12 Из той земли, которой мы овладели в ту пору, я отдал потомкам Рувима и Гада ту ее часть, что начинается от Ароэра, расположенного в долине Арнона, включая и половину Гиладского нагорья с его городами.

13 Другую же часть Гилада, а также весь Башан, где прежде правил Ог, отдал я половине колена Манассии. (Всю область Аргов в Башане называли землей рефаимов.

14 Эту область Аргов — до границы земель потомков Маахата и Гешура — получил Яир, один из потомков Манассии. Башан он назвал своим именем: с тех пор и поныне это Селения Яира.)

15 Другим же потомкам Манассии, что из рода Махира, я отдал часть Гиладского нагорья, оставшуюся после того,

16 как потомкам Рувима и Гада была отдана первая половина Гилада до долины Арнона (по середине этой реки шла граница) и до реки Яввок, границы владений потомков Аммона.

17 Другою границей их земель — от Киннерета до Аравы, то есть Соленого моря, и предгорий Фасги на востоке — была река Иордан с ее долиной.

18 Тогда вам, мужам из этих трех колен, дал я такой наказ: „ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, даровал вам эту землю, дабы владели вы ею. Но вы — те из вас, кто способен носить оружие, — должны отправиться в поход впереди своих собратьев, сынов Израилевых.

19 А в городах, что вы получили, пусть остаются только ваши жены и дети и скот, которого, знаю, много у вас,

20 пока ГОСПОДЬ не дарует вашим братьям пристанище, как то было дано вам, пока они не возьмут за Иорданом себе в собственность ту землю, которую им определил ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш. Только тогда вы сможете вернуться в свои владения, которые я закрепил за вами“.

21 В ту пору дал я наказ и Иисусу Навину: „Ты видел своими глазами, что сделал ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, с обоими царями аморейскими. То же сотворит Он со всеми царствами там, за рекой, куда ты направляешься.

22 Не бойтесь их! Ведь Сам ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, будет сражаться за вас!“

23 Тогда же вознес я мольбу свою к ГОСПОДУ, говоря:

24 „Владыка, ГОСПОДИ! Теперь, когда Ты начал являть мне, рабу Своему, Свое величие и силу руки Своей в деяниях столь могущественных, что соперничать с ними не сможет никакой бог ни на небе, ни на земле,

25 не позволишь ли мне перейти через реку и увидеть дивную страну за Иорданом — эти прекрасные горы и цветущий Ливан?“

26 Но ГОСПОДЬ всё еще гневался на меня из-за вас и просьбе моей не внял. Сказал Он мне: „Будет тебе! Не говори Мне больше об этом!

27 Взойди на вершину Фасги, обрати взор свой на запад, и север, и юг, и восток и рассмотри всё своими глазами, ибо за Иордан не суждено тебе перейти.

28 Дай указания Иисусу Навину, ободри и укрепи его дух, ибо далее он поведет этих людей за Иордан и добьется того, что та земля, которую ты увидишь, станет их наследством“.

29 Так вот мы и остановились в долине неподалеку от Бет-Пеора.

3 So the LORD our God delivered into our hand Og also, the king of Mathnin, and all his people; and we smote him until none was left to him surviving.

3 ГОСПОДЬ, Бог наш, действительно отдал в наши руки Ога, царя Башана, и всех воинов его — мы разбили их наголову. И опять — ни одного уцелевшего.

13 And the rest of Gilead, and all Mathnin, being the kingdom of Og. I gave to the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Mathnin, which is called the land of giants.

13 Другую же часть Гилада, а также весь Башан, где прежде правил Ог, отдал я половине колена Манассии. (Всю область Аргов в Башане называли землей рефаимов.

14 Jair the son of Manasseh took for himself all the region of Argob as far as the border of Geshur and Maachath; and called them after his own name, Mathnin and Caproney Jair, to this day.

14 Эту область Аргов — до границы земель потомков Маахата и Гешура — получил Яир, один из потомков Манассии. Башан он назвал своим именем: с тех пор и поныне это Селения Яира.)

15 To Machir I gave Gilead.

15 Другим же потомкам Манассии, что из рода Махира, я отдал часть Гиладского нагорья, оставшуюся после того,

21 And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Your eyes have seen all that the LORD your God has done to these two kings; so shall the LORD do to all these kingdoms through which you are going.

21 В ту пору дал я наказ и Иисусу Навину: „Ты видел своими глазами, что сделал ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, с обоими царями аморейскими. То же сотворит Он со всеми царствами там, за рекой, куда ты направляешься.

22 You shall not fear them; for it is the LORD your God who is fighting for you.

22 Не бойтесь их! Ведь Сам ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, будет сражаться за вас!“

23 And I besought the LORD at that time, saying,

23 Тогда же вознес я мольбу свою к ГОСПОДУ, говоря:

24 I beseech thee O LORD God, thou who hast begun to show thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand, and thy outstretched arm (for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do according to thy works and according to thy mighty deeds?),

24 „Владыка, ГОСПОДИ! Теперь, когда Ты начал являть мне, рабу Своему, Свое величие и силу руки Своей в деяниях столь могущественных, что соперничать с ними не сможет никакой бог ни на небе, ни на земле,

25 I pray thee, let me now go over and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.

25 не позволишь ли мне перейти через реку и увидеть дивную страну за Иорданом — эти прекрасные горы и цветущий Ливан?“

26 But the LORD was wroth with me on your account, and would not hearken to me; and the LORD said to me, Let it suffice for you; speak no more before me of this matter.

26 Но ГОСПОДЬ всё еще гневался на меня из-за вас и просьбе моей не внял. Сказал Он мне: „Будет тебе! Не говори Мне больше об этом!

27 Go up to the top of the hill (Pisgah) and lift up your eyes eastward and westward and northward and southward, and behold it with your eyes; for you shall not cross this Jordan.

27 Взойди на вершину Фасги, обрати взор свой на запад, и север, и юг, и восток и рассмотри всё своими глазами, ибо за Иордан не суждено тебе перейти.
