Isaiah

Chapter 30

1 Woe1945 to the rebellious5637 children,1121 said5002 the LORD,3068 that take6213 counsel,6098 but not of me; and that cover5258 with a covering,4541 but not of my spirit,7307 that they may add5595 sin2403 to sin:2403

2 That walk1980 to go3381 down3381 into Egypt,4714 and have not asked7592 at my mouth;6310 to strengthen5810 themselves in the strength4581 of Pharaoh,6547 and to trust2620 in the shadow6738 of Egypt!4714

3 Therefore shall the strength4581 of Pharaoh6547 be your shame,1322 and the trust2622 in the shadow6738 of Egypt4714 your confusion.3639

4 For his princes8269 were at Zoan,6814 and his ambassadors4397 came5060 to Hanes.2609

5 They were all3605 ashamed954 of a people5971 that could not profit3276 them, nor3808 be an help5828 nor3808 profit,3276 but a shame,1322 and also1571 a reproach.2781

6 The burden4853 of the beasts929 of the south:5045 into the land776 of trouble6869 and anguish,6695 from where1992 come the young3838 and old3918 lion,3918 the viper660 and fiery8314 flying5774 serpent,8314 they will carry5375 their riches2428 on the shoulders3802 of young asses,5895 and their treasures214 on the bunches1707 of camels,1581 to a people5971 that shall not profit3276 them.

7 For the Egyptians4714 shall help5826 in vain,1892 and to no7385 purpose:7385 therefore3651 have I cried7121 concerning this,2063 Their strength7293 is to sit7674 still.7673

8 Now6258 go,935 write3789 it before854 them in a table,3871 and note2710 it in a book,5612 that it may be for the time3117 to come314 for ever5703 and ever:5769

9 That this1931 is a rebellious4805 people,5971 lying3586 children,1121 children1121 that will14 not hear8085 the law8451 of the LORD:3068

10 Which834 say559 to the seers,7200 See7200 not; and to the prophets,2374 Prophesy2372 not to us right5229 things, speak1696 to us smooth2513 things, prophesy2372 deceits:4123

11 Get you out of the way,1870 turn5186 aside5186 out of the path,734 cause the Holy6918 One of Israel3478 to cease7673 from before6440 us.

12 Why3651 thus3541 said559 the Holy6918 One of Israel,3478 Because3282 you despise3988 this2088 word,1697 and trust982 in oppression6233 and perverseness,3868 and stay8172 thereon:5921

13 Therefore3651 this2088 iniquity5771 shall be to you as a breach6556 ready to fall,5307 swelling1158 out in a high7682 wall,2346 whose834 breaking7667 comes935 suddenly6597 at an instant.6621

14 And he shall break7665 it as the breaking7667 of the potters'3335 vessel5035 that is broken3807 in pieces; he shall not spare:2550 so that there shall not be found4672 in the bursting4386 of it a shard2789 to take2846 fire784 from the hearth,3344 or to take2834 water4325 with out of the pit.1360

15 For thus3541 said559 the Lord136 GOD,3069 the Holy6918 One of Israel;3478 In returning7729 and rest5183 shall you be saved;3467 in quietness8252 and in confidence985 shall be your strength:1369 and you would14 not.

16 But you said,559 No;3808 for we will flee5127 on horses;5483 therefore5921 3651 shall you flee:5127 and, We will ride7392 on the swift;7031 therefore5921 3651 shall they that pursue7291 you be swift.7043

17 One259 thousand505 shall flee at6440 the rebuke1606 of one;259 at6440 the rebuke1606 of five2568 shall you flee:5127 till you be left3498 as a beacon8650 on the top7218 of a mountain,2022 and as an ensign5251 on5921 an hill.1389

18 And therefore3651 will the LORD3068 wait,2442 that he may be gracious2603 to you, and therefore3651 will he be exalted,7311 that he may have mercy7355 on you: for the LORD3068 is a God430 of judgment:4941 blessed835 are all3605 they that wait2442 for him.

19 For the people5971 shall dwell3427 in Zion6726 at Jerusalem:3389 you shall weep1058 no3808 more:1058 he will be very gracious2603 to you at the voice6963 of your cry;2201 when he shall hear8085 it, he will answer6030 you.

20 And though the Lord136 give5414 you the bread3899 of adversity,6862 and the water4325 of affliction,3905 yet shall not your teachers3384 be removed3670 into a corner3671 any more,5750 but your eyes5869 shall see7200 your teachers:3384

21 And your ears241 shall hear8085 a word1697 behind310 you, saying,559 This2088 is the way,1870 walk3212 you in it, when3588 you turn to the right541 hand, and when3588 you turn to the left.8041

22 You shall defile2930 also the covering6826 of your graven6456 images of silver,3701 and the ornament642 of your molten4541 images of gold:2091 you shall cast2219 them away2219 as a menstruous1739 cloth;4346 you shall say559 to it, Get3318 you hence.3318

23 Then shall he give5414 the rain4306 of your seed,2233 that you shall sow2232 the ground127 with; and bread3899 of the increase8393 of the earth,127 and it shall be fat1879 and plenteous:8082 in that day3117 shall your cattle4735 feed7462 in large7337 pastures.3733

24 The oxen504 likewise and the young asses5895 that ear5647 the ground127 shall eat398 clean2548 provender,1098 which834 has been winnowed2219 with the shovel7371 and with the fan.4214

25 And there shall be on every3605 high1364 mountain,2022 and on every3605 high4791 hill,1389 rivers6388 and streams2988 of waters4325 in the day3117 of the great7227 slaughter,2027 when the towers4026 fall.5307

26 Moreover the light216 of the moon3842 shall be as the light216 of the sun,2535 and the light216 of the sun8121 shall be sevenfold,7659 as the light216 of seven7651 days,3117 in the day3117 that the LORD3068 binds2280 up the breach7667 of his people,5971 and heals7495 the stroke4273 of their wound.4347

27 Behold,2009 the name8034 of the LORD3068 comes935 from far,4801 burning1197 with his anger,639 and the burden4858 thereof is heavy:3514 his lips8193 are full4390 of indignation,2195 and his tongue3956 as a devouring398 fire:784

28 And his breath,7307 as an overflowing7857 stream,5158 shall reach2673 to the middle2673 of the neck,6677 to sift5130 the nations1471 with the sieve5299 of vanity:7723 and there shall be a bridle7448 in the jaws3895 of the people,5971 causing them to err.8582

29 You shall have1961 a song,7892 as in the night3915 when a holy6942 solemnity2282 is kept;6942 and gladness8057 of heart,3824 as when one goes1980 with a pipe2485 to come935 into the mountain2022 of the LORD,3068 to the mighty6697 One of Israel.3478

30 And the LORD3068 shall cause his glorious1935 voice6963 to be heard,8085 and shall show7200 the lighting5183 down5183 of his arm,2220 with the indignation2197 of his anger,639 and with the flame3851 of a devouring398 fire,784 with scattering,5311 and tempest,2230 and hailstones68 1259.

31 For through the voice6963 of the LORD3068 shall the Assyrian804 be beaten2865 down, which smote5221 with a rod.7626

32 And in every3605 place where the grounded4145 staff4294 shall pass,4569 which834 the LORD3068 shall lay5117 on him, it shall be with tabrets8596 and harps:3658 and in battles4421 of shaking8573 will he fight3898 with it.

33 For Tophet8613 is ordained6186 of old;865 yes,1571 for the king4428 it is prepared;3559 he has made it deep6009 and large:7337 the pile4071 thereof is fire784 and much7235 wood;6086 the breath5397 of the LORD,3068 like a stream5158 of brimstone,1614 does kindle1197 it.

Isaiah

Chapter 30

1 WOE to the rebellious children, says the LORD, who take counsel, but not of me; and who offer wine offerings, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin;

2 Who start to go down to Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth, to strengthen themselves by the strength of Pharaoh, and to take shelter in the shadow of Egypt!

3 Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be to your shame, and the shelter of the shadow of Egypt to your confusion.

4 For while Pharaoh is in Zoan, his princes and ambassadors shall act deceitfully.

5 They go to a people that cannot profit them, neither be a help nor a profit, but shame and reproach.

6 The prophecy concerning the oppressors of the south: Into a land of trouble and anguish, from whence come the lion and the young lion, the viper and the fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches upon the backs of young asses, and their treasures upon the humps of camels, to a people that shall not profit them.

7 For the Egyptians shall help in vain and in falsehood; therefore I have warned them, for this their trust is in vain.

8 Now come, write it on these tablets and on the book of their covenant, that it may be for the time to come, for a testimony for ever and ever;

9 For this is a rebellious people, lying children, children who will not hear the law of the LORD;

10 Who have said to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not to us reproof; speak to us deception, prophesy lies;

11 Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.

12 Therefore thus says the LORD, the Holy One of Israel: Because you have despised this word and trusted in oppression and have complained and yet trusted in it;

13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall and as a high wall whose breaking comes suddenly at an instant.

14 And its breaking is as the breaking of the potter's vessel that is broken in pieces, without pity; so that there shall not be found in its fragments a shard to take fire from the hearth or to take water with it out of the cistern.

15 Therefore thus says the LORD, the Holy One of Israel: When you will repent and rest you will be saved; in quietness and in hope shall be your strength; but you would not listen.

16 But you said, Not so, for we will ride upon horses, and will flee upon swift ones; therefore you shall flee, and your pursuers shall be swift.

17 A thousand shall flee at the rebuke of one; at the rebuke of five shall you flee till you are left as a beacon on the top of a mountain and as an ensign on a hill.

18 Therefore the LORD will begin to be gracious to you, and therefore he will be exalted that he may have mercy upon you; for the LORD is a God of judgment; blessed are all those who wait for him.

19 For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem; you shall weep no more; he will be very gracious to you at the voice of your cry; when he shall hear it, he will answer you.

20 And though the LORD give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet he will not gather any more those who have caused you to err, and your eyes shall see the misfortune of those who have caused you to err;

21 And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk in it, and do not turn aside, either to the right hand or to the left.

22 And you shall defile the silver which is overlaid on your idols, and the ornament of your molten images of gold; you shall cast them away like unclean water of a menstrous woman; and you shall take them outside like rubbish.

23 Then he shall give rain to your seed, with which you shall sow the ground; and grain of the increase of the earth, and it shall be fertile and plentiful; on that day shall your cattle graze in rich pastures.

24 The oxen and the young bullocks that till the ground shall eat clean provender which has been winnowed with the shovel and with the fan.

25 And there shall be upon every high mountain and upon every high hill, flowing streams of waters in the day of the great slaughter when the towers fall.

26 Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD binds up the breach of his people and heals the pain of their wound.

27 Behold, the name of the LORD comes from afar, his wrath burns and his train is glorious; his lips are full of indignation and his tongue as a devouring fire;

28 And his breath as an overflowing torrent shall reach up to the neck to confuse the nations because of their erring vanity, and because of the bridle which is in the jaws of the nations, which causes them to err.

29 You shall have a song, even a garland which is sanctified in the night when a holy solemnity is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one walks rejoicing to come to the mountain of the LORD, to the mighty One of Israel.

30 And the LORD shall cause his glorious voice to be heard, and shall show the striking of his arm with the indignation of his anger and with the flame of a devouring fire, with the rainstorm and tempest and hailstones.

31 For from before the excellency of the LORD shall the Assyrian be defeated and smitten with a rod.

32 And in all his works, the staff of affliction which the LORD shall lay upon him shall be with tabrets and harps; and with a fierce battle he shall fight against him.

33 For he has prepared his punishment of old; yea, it is prepared to be executed; he has made it deep and large in his dwelling place; the wood and the fire are plentiful; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, does kindle it.

1 WOE to the rebellious children, says the LORD, who take counsel, but not of me; and who offer wine offerings, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin;

2 Who start to go down to Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth, to strengthen themselves by the strength of Pharaoh, and to take shelter in the shadow of Egypt!

3 Therefore shall the strength4581 of Pharaoh6547 be your shame,1322 and the trust2622 in the shadow6738 of Egypt4714 your confusion.3639

3 Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be to your shame, and the shelter of the shadow of Egypt to your confusion.

4 For his princes8269 were at Zoan,6814 and his ambassadors4397 came5060 to Hanes.2609

5 They go to a people that cannot profit them, neither be a help nor a profit, but shame and reproach.

7 For the Egyptians4714 shall help5826 in vain,1892 and to no7385 purpose:7385 therefore3651 have I cried7121 concerning this,2063 Their strength7293 is to sit7674 still.7673

7 For the Egyptians shall help in vain and in falsehood; therefore I have warned them, for this their trust is in vain.

8 Now6258 go,935 write3789 it before854 them in a table,3871 and note2710 it in a book,5612 that it may be for the time3117 to come314 for ever5703 and ever:5769

8 Now come, write it on these tablets and on the book of their covenant, that it may be for the time to come, for a testimony for ever and ever;

9 That this1931 is a rebellious4805 people,5971 lying3586 children,1121 children1121 that will14 not hear8085 the law8451 of the LORD:3068

9 For this is a rebellious people, lying children, children who will not hear the law of the LORD;

10 Which834 say559 to the seers,7200 See7200 not; and to the prophets,2374 Prophesy2372 not to us right5229 things, speak1696 to us smooth2513 things, prophesy2372 deceits:4123

10 Who have said to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not to us reproof; speak to us deception, prophesy lies;

11 Get you out of the way,1870 turn5186 aside5186 out of the path,734 cause the Holy6918 One of Israel3478 to cease7673 from before6440 us.

11 Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.

12 Why3651 thus3541 said559 the Holy6918 One of Israel,3478 Because3282 you despise3988 this2088 word,1697 and trust982 in oppression6233 and perverseness,3868 and stay8172 thereon:5921

12 Therefore thus says the LORD, the Holy One of Israel: Because you have despised this word and trusted in oppression and have complained and yet trusted in it;

13 Therefore3651 this2088 iniquity5771 shall be to you as a breach6556 ready to fall,5307 swelling1158 out in a high7682 wall,2346 whose834 breaking7667 comes935 suddenly6597 at an instant.6621

13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall and as a high wall whose breaking comes suddenly at an instant.

14 And its breaking is as the breaking of the potter's vessel that is broken in pieces, without pity; so that there shall not be found in its fragments a shard to take fire from the hearth or to take water with it out of the cistern.

15 For thus3541 said559 the Lord136 GOD,3069 the Holy6918 One of Israel;3478 In returning7729 and rest5183 shall you be saved;3467 in quietness8252 and in confidence985 shall be your strength:1369 and you would14 not.

15 Therefore thus says the LORD, the Holy One of Israel: When you will repent and rest you will be saved; in quietness and in hope shall be your strength; but you would not listen.

16 But you said,559 No;3808 for we will flee5127 on horses;5483 therefore5921 3651 shall you flee:5127 and, We will ride7392 on the swift;7031 therefore5921 3651 shall they that pursue7291 you be swift.7043

16 But you said, Not so, for we will ride upon horses, and will flee upon swift ones; therefore you shall flee, and your pursuers shall be swift.

17 A thousand shall flee at the rebuke of one; at the rebuke of five shall you flee till you are left as a beacon on the top of a mountain and as an ensign on a hill.

18 Therefore the LORD will begin to be gracious to you, and therefore he will be exalted that he may have mercy upon you; for the LORD is a God of judgment; blessed are all those who wait for him.

19 For the people5971 shall dwell3427 in Zion6726 at Jerusalem:3389 you shall weep1058 no3808 more:1058 he will be very gracious2603 to you at the voice6963 of your cry;2201 when he shall hear8085 it, he will answer6030 you.

19 For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem; you shall weep no more; he will be very gracious to you at the voice of your cry; when he shall hear it, he will answer you.

20 And though the Lord136 give5414 you the bread3899 of adversity,6862 and the water4325 of affliction,3905 yet shall not your teachers3384 be removed3670 into a corner3671 any more,5750 but your eyes5869 shall see7200 your teachers:3384

20 And though the LORD give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet he will not gather any more those who have caused you to err, and your eyes shall see the misfortune of those who have caused you to err;

21 And your ears241 shall hear8085 a word1697 behind310 you, saying,559 This2088 is the way,1870 walk3212 you in it, when3588 you turn to the right541 hand, and when3588 you turn to the left.8041

21 And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk in it, and do not turn aside, either to the right hand or to the left.

22 And you shall defile the silver which is overlaid on your idols, and the ornament of your molten images of gold; you shall cast them away like unclean water of a menstrous woman; and you shall take them outside like rubbish.

23 Then he shall give rain to your seed, with which you shall sow the ground; and grain of the increase of the earth, and it shall be fertile and plentiful; on that day shall your cattle graze in rich pastures.

24 The oxen504 likewise and the young asses5895 that ear5647 the ground127 shall eat398 clean2548 provender,1098 which834 has been winnowed2219 with the shovel7371 and with the fan.4214

24 The oxen and the young bullocks that till the ground shall eat clean provender which has been winnowed with the shovel and with the fan.

25 And there shall be on every3605 high1364 mountain,2022 and on every3605 high4791 hill,1389 rivers6388 and streams2988 of waters4325 in the day3117 of the great7227 slaughter,2027 when the towers4026 fall.5307

25 And there shall be upon every high mountain and upon every high hill, flowing streams of waters in the day of the great slaughter when the towers fall.

26 Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD binds up the breach of his people and heals the pain of their wound.

27 Behold, the name of the LORD comes from afar, his wrath burns and his train is glorious; his lips are full of indignation and his tongue as a devouring fire;
