Chapter 19

1 WHEN the LORD your God has destroyed the nations whose land the LORD your God gives you, and you shall possess them and dwell in their cities, and in their houses;

2 You shall set apart for you three cities in the midst of your land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance.

3 You shall prepare for you a highway, and divide into three parts the land which the LORD your God gives you to inherit, that any slayer may flee thither.

4 And this is the law in the case of the slayer who kills his neighbor and flees there that he may live, whosoever kills his neighbor unintentionally, whom he hated not in time past;

5 And when a man goes into the forest with his neighbor to cut wood, and as he lifts up his hand with the axe to cut down a tree, the iron head slips from the helve and strikes his neighbor so that he dies; he shall flee to one of these cities, and live;

6 Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his anger is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; though he was not worthy of death, because he hated him not in time past.

7 Therefore I command you, saying, You shall set apart three cities for you.

8 And when the LORD your God shall enlarge your territory, as he has sworn to your fathers, and gives you all the land which he promised to give to your fathers;

9 If you shall keep all these commandments to do them, which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in his ways always; then you shall add three cities more for you besides these three;

10 That innocent blood may not be shed in the land which the LORD your God gives you, and that the guilt of innocent blood not be upon you.

11 But if any man hate his neighbor, and lie in wait for him, and attack him, and smite him mortally so that he dies, and he flees to one of these cities;

12 Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him from there, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, and he shall slay him.

13 Your eyes shall not pity him, but you shall kill him, and thus purge the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with you.

14 You shall not remove your neighbor's landmark, which they of old time have set in your inheritance, which you shall inherit in the land that the LORD your God gives you to possess.

15 A single witness shall not rise up against a man for any offense, or for any crime, in whatever offense or crime he may commit; on the testimony of two witnesses, or on the testimony of three witnesses, shall a charge be established.

16 If a false witness rise up against any man, and testify against him that which is wrong;

17 Then both the men between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges who shall be in those days;

18 And the judges shall investigate the case diligently; and, behold, if the witness has deliberately testified falsely against his brother;

19 Then you shall do to him as he had thought to do to his brother; so shall you put the evil away from among you.

20 And those who remain shall hear, and fear, and shall never again commit any such an evil thing among you.

21 And your eye shall not pity; but life shall be for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

1 Когда Иегова, Бог твой, истребит народы, коих землю дает тебе Иегова, Бог твой, и ты вступишь в наследие после них и поселишься в городах их и домах их:

2 Тогда отдели себе три города среди земли твоей, которую Иегова, Бог твой, дает тебе в наследие.

3 Устрой себе дорогу и раздели на три части всю землю твою, которую Иегова, Бог твой, дает тебе в удел; они будут служить убежищем всякому убийце.

4 И вот какой убийца может убегать туда и остаться жив: кто убьет ближнего своего без намерения, не быв врагом ему вчера и третьего дня.

5 Например, если кто пойдет с ближним своим в лес рубить дрова, и размахнется рука его с топором, чтоб срубить дерево, и соскочит железо с топорища и попадет в ближнего, и он умрет: таковой пусть убежит в один из городов тех и будет жив:

6 Дабы мстящий за кровь в горячности сердца своего не погнался за убийцею и не настиг его, если далек будет путь, и не убил его [до смерти]; между тем как он не подлежит осуждению на смерть, ибо не был врагом ему вчера и третьего дня.

7 Посему Я и дал тебе повеление [сие], говоря: отдели себе три города.

8 Когда же Иегова, Бог твой, распространит пределы твои, как Он клялся отцам твоим, и даст тебе [Господь] всю землю, которую Он обещал дать отцам твоим,

9 Если ты будешь стараться исполнять все сии заповеди, которые Я заповедаю тебе сегодня, любить Иегову, Бога твоего, и ходить [всеми] путями Его, во все дни: тогда к сим трем [городам] прибавь еще три города:

10 Дабы не проливалась кровь невинного среди земли твоей, которую Иегова, Бог твой, дает тебе в удел, и чтоб не пала на тебя [вина] крови.

11 Но если кто [у тебя] быв врагом ближнему своему и злоумышляя на него, восстанет на него и убьет его до смерти, и убежит в один из городов тех:

12 То старейшины города его должны послать, чтобы взять его оттуда и предать его в руки мстящего за кровь, чтобы он умер.

13 Да не пощадит его око твое, смой с Израиля кровь невинного и будет тебе хорошо.

14 Не передвигай межи ближнего твоего, которую положили предки в уделе твоем, доставшемся тебе в земле, которую Иегова, Бог твой, дает тебе в наследие.

15 Недостаточен один свидетель, [чтобы свидетельствовать] на кого-либо в какой-нибудь вине и в каком-нибудь преступлении и в каком-нибудь грехе, которым он согрешит: при свидетельстве двух свидетелей или при свидетельстве трех свидетелей состоится [всякое] дело.

16 Если выступит против кого свидетель несправедливый, донося на него в преступлении:

17 То пусть предстанут оба сии человека, у которых есть тяжба, пред Иегову, [и] пред священников и пред судей, которые будут в те дни.

18 Судии должны хорошо исследовать [их], и если свидетель тот есть свидетель ложный, ложь донес на брата своего:

19 То сделайте ему то, что он умышлял сделать брату своему; и таким образом истреби зло из среды себя.

20 И прочие услышат, и убоятся, и не станут впредь делать такого зла среди тебя.

21 Да не пощадит [его] око твое: душа за душу, глаз за глаз, зуб за зуб, рука за руку, нога за ногу. [Какой кто сделает вред ближнему своему, тем должно отплатить ему.]

4 И вот какой убийца может убегать туда и остаться жив: кто убьет ближнего своего без намерения, не быв врагом ему вчера и третьего дня.

5 Например, если кто пойдет с ближним своим в лес рубить дрова, и размахнется рука его с топором, чтоб срубить дерево, и соскочит железо с топорища и попадет в ближнего, и он умрет: таковой пусть убежит в один из городов тех и будет жив:

6 Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his anger is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; though he was not worthy of death, because he hated him not in time past.

6 Дабы мстящий за кровь в горячности сердца своего не погнался за убийцею и не настиг его, если далек будет путь, и не убил его [до смерти]; между тем как он не подлежит осуждению на смерть, ибо не был врагом ему вчера и третьего дня.

7 Therefore I command you, saying, You shall set apart three cities for you.

7 Посему Я и дал тебе повеление [сие], говоря: отдели себе три города.

8 And when the LORD your God shall enlarge your territory, as he has sworn to your fathers, and gives you all the land which he promised to give to your fathers;

8 Когда же Иегова, Бог твой, распространит пределы твои, как Он клялся отцам твоим, и даст тебе [Господь] всю землю, которую Он обещал дать отцам твоим,

9 If you shall keep all these commandments to do them, which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in his ways always; then you shall add three cities more for you besides these three;

9 Если ты будешь стараться исполнять все сии заповеди, которые Я заповедаю тебе сегодня, любить Иегову, Бога твоего, и ходить [всеми] путями Его, во все дни: тогда к сим трем [городам] прибавь еще три города:

10 That innocent blood may not be shed in the land which the LORD your God gives you, and that the guilt of innocent blood not be upon you.

10 Дабы не проливалась кровь невинного среди земли твоей, которую Иегова, Бог твой, дает тебе в удел, и чтоб не пала на тебя [вина] крови.

11 Но если кто [у тебя] быв врагом ближнему своему и злоумышляя на него, восстанет на него и убьет его до смерти, и убежит в один из городов тех:

12 Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him from there, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, and he shall slay him.

12 То старейшины города его должны послать, чтобы взять его оттуда и предать его в руки мстящего за кровь, чтобы он умер.

13 Your eyes shall not pity him, but you shall kill him, and thus purge the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with you.

13 Да не пощадит его око твое, смой с Израиля кровь невинного и будет тебе хорошо.

14 Не передвигай межи ближнего твоего, которую положили предки в уделе твоем, доставшемся тебе в земле, которую Иегова, Бог твой, дает тебе в наследие.

15 Недостаточен один свидетель, [чтобы свидетельствовать] на кого-либо в какой-нибудь вине и в каком-нибудь преступлении и в каком-нибудь грехе, которым он согрешит: при свидетельстве двух свидетелей или при свидетельстве трех свидетелей состоится [всякое] дело.

16 If a false witness rise up against any man, and testify against him that which is wrong;

16 Если выступит против кого свидетель несправедливый, донося на него в преступлении:

17 Then both the men between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges who shall be in those days;

17 То пусть предстанут оба сии человека, у которых есть тяжба, пред Иегову, [и] пред священников и пред судей, которые будут в те дни.

18 And the judges shall investigate the case diligently; and, behold, if the witness has deliberately testified falsely against his brother;

18 Судии должны хорошо исследовать [их], и если свидетель тот есть свидетель ложный, ложь донес на брата своего:

19 Then you shall do to him as he had thought to do to his brother; so shall you put the evil away from among you.

19 То сделайте ему то, что он умышлял сделать брату своему; и таким образом истреби зло из среды себя.

20 And those who remain shall hear, and fear, and shall never again commit any such an evil thing among you.

20 И прочие услышат, и убоятся, и не станут впредь делать такого зла среди тебя.

21 And your eye shall not pity; but life shall be for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

21 Да не пощадит [его] око твое: душа за душу, глаз за глаз, зуб за зуб, рука за руку, нога за ногу. [Какой кто сделает вред ближнему своему, тем должно отплатить ему.]
