3 And Moses4872 by the commandment6310 of the LORD3068 sent7971 them from the wilderness4057 of Paran:6290 all3605 those men582 were heads7218 of the children1121 of Israel.3478

4 And these428 were their names:8034 of the tribe4294 of Reuben,7205 Shammua8051 the son1121 of Zaccur.2139

18 And see7200 the land,776 what4100 it is, and the people5971 that dwells3427 therein,5921 whether they be strong2389 or weak,7504 few4592 or many;7227

19 And what4100 the land776 is that they dwell3427 in, whether it be good2896 or bad;7451 and what4100 cities5892 they be that they dwell3427 in, whether in tents,4264 or in strong4013 holds;4013

20 And what4100 the land776 is, whether it be fat8082 or lean,7330 whether there be wood6086 therein, or not. And be you of good courage,2388 and bring3947 of the fruit6529 of the land.776 Now the time3117 was the time3117 of the first ripe1061 grapes.6025

21 So they went5927 up, and searched8446 the land776 from the wilderness4057 of Zin6790 to Rehob,7340 as men come935 to Hamath.2574

22 And they ascended5927 by the south,5045 and came935 to Hebron;2275 where8033 Ahiman,289 Sheshai,8344 and Talmai,8526 the children3211 of Anak,6061 were. (Now Hebron2275 was built1129 seven7651 years8141 before6440 Zoan6814 in Egypt.4714)

23 And they came935 to the brook5158 of Eshcol,812 and cut3772 down from there8033 a branch2156 with one259 cluster811 of grapes,6025 and they bore5375 it between996 two8147 on a staff;4132 and they brought of the pomegranates,7416 and of the figs.8384

24 The place4725 was called7121 the brook5158 Eshcol,812 because5921 182 of the cluster811 of grapes which834 the children1121 of Israel3478 cut3772 down from there.8033

25 And they returned7725 from searching8446 of the land776 after7093 forty705 days.3117

26 And they went3212 and came935 to Moses,4872 and to Aaron,175 and to all3605 the congregation5712 of the children1121 of Israel,3478 to the wilderness4057 of Paran,6290 to Kadesh;6946 and brought7725 back7725 word1697 to them, and to all3605 the congregation,5712 and showed7200 them the fruit6529 of the land.776

27 And they told5608 him, and said,559 We came935 to the land776 where834 you sent7971 us, and surely it flows2100 with milk2461 and honey;1706 and this2088 is the fruit6529 of it.

28 Nevertheless657 the people5971 be strong5794 that dwell3427 in the land,776 and the cities5892 are walled,1219 and very3966 great:1419 and moreover1571 we saw7200 the children3211 of Anak6061 there.8033

29 The Amalekites6003 dwell3427 in the land776 of the south:5045 and the Hittites,2850 and the Jebusites,2983 and the Amorites,567 dwell3427 in the mountains:2022 and the Canaanites3669 dwell3427 by the sea,3220 and by the coast3027 of Jordan.3383

30 And Caleb3612 stilled2013 the people5971 before413 Moses,4872 and said,559 Let us go5927 up at once, and possess3423 it; for we are well able3201 to overcome3201 it.

31 But the men582 that went5927 up with him said,559 We be not able3201 to go5927 up against413 the people;5971 for they are stronger2389 than we.

32 And they brought3318 up an evil1681 report1681 of the land776 which834 they had searched8446 to the children1121 of Israel,3478 saying,559 The land,776 through which834 we have gone5674 to search8446 it, is a land776 that eats398 up the inhabitants3427 thereof; and all3605 the people5971 that we saw7200 in it are men582 of a great stature.4060

33 And there8033 we saw7200 the giants,5303 the sons1121 of Anak,6061 which come of the giants:1368 and we were in our own sight5869 as grasshoppers,2284 and so we were in their sight.5869

4 Моисей послал их из пустыни Фаран, по повелению Господню, и все сии мужи были главные у сынов Израилевых.

6 Из колена Симеонова Шафат, сын Хориев,

7 Из колена Иудина Халев, сын Иефонниин,

8 Из колена Иссахарова Игал, сын Иосифов,

9 Из колена Ефремова Осия, сын Навин,

10 Из колена Вениаминова Фалтий, сын Рафуев,

11 Из колена Завулонова Гаддиил, сын Содиев,

12 Из колена Иосифова, из колена Манассиина, Гаддий, сын Сусиев,

17 Вот имена мужей, коих посылал Моисей для обозрения земли. И назвал Моисей Осию, сына Навина, Иисусом.

18 Когда посылал их Моисей [из пустыни Фаран] обозревать землю Ханаанскую, тогда сказал им: подите в южную страну и взойдите на гору;

19 И осмотрите землю, какова она, и народ живущий на ней, силен ли он или слаб, малочислен ли он или многочислен?

20 Какова земля, на которой он живет, хороша ли она или худа? и каковы города, в коих он живет, в станах ли он живет или в крепостях?

21 Какова земля, тучна ли она или суха? Есть ли на ней дерева или нет? Будьте смелы и возьмите плодов земли. А в то время созревал первый виноград.

22 Они пошли и обозрели землю от пустыни Цин даже до Рехова, при входе в Емаф.

23 Потом пошли в южную страну и дошли до Хеврона, где жили Ахиман, Шешай и Фалмай, дети Энаковы: Хеврон же построен был семью годами прежде Цоана, [города] Египетского.

24 И пришли к долине Есхол, [и осмотрели ее,] и срезали там виноградную ветвь с кистью ягод, которую несли на носилках двое, также взяли гранатовых яблок и смокв.

25 Место сие назвали долиною Есхол {Виноградная кисть}, по причине виноградной кисти, которую срезали там сыны Израилевы.

26 По прошествии сорока дней возвратились они, обозрев землю,

27 И пошли и пришли к Моисею и Аарону, и ко всему обществу сынов Израилевых в пустыню Фаран, в Кадес, и принесли им и всему обществу ответ, и показали им плоды земли.

28 И рассказывали ему и говорили: мы ходили в землю, в которую ты посылал нас, в ней течет молоко и мед, и вот плоды ее;

29 Только народ, живущий на земле той, силен, и города укрепленные, весьма большие; да и сынов Энаковых мы видели там.

30 Амалик живет на южной части земли, Хеттеи, [Евеи,] Иевусеи и Аморреи живут на горе, Хананеи же живут подле моря и подле Иордана.

31 Халев между тем успокаивал народ пред Моисеем, говоря: пойдем и завладеем ею, потому что мы можем преодолеть ее.

32 А те, которые ходили с ним, говорили: не можем идти к народу сему, поелику он сильнее нас.

33 Притом распускали худую молву о земле, которую они осматривали, между сынами Израилевыми, говоря: земля, которую проходили мы для обозрения, есть земля поядающая живущих на ней, и весь народ, который видели мы среди ее, суть люди великорослые.

2 Там говорил Господь Моисею, и сказал:

25 Место сие назвали долиною Есхол {Виноградная кисть}, по причине виноградной кисти, которую срезали там сыны Израилевы.
