Chapter 20

1 When3588 you go3318 out to battle4421 against5921 your enemies,341 and see7200 horses,5483 and chariots,7393 and a people5971 more7227 than you, be not afraid3372 of them: for the LORD3068 your God430 is with you, which834 brought5927 you up out of the land776 of Egypt.4714

2 And it shall be, when you are come7126 near7126 to the battle,4421 that the priest3548 shall approach5066 and speak1696 to the people,5971

3 And shall say559 to them, Hear,8085 O Israel,3478 you approach7126 this day3117 to battle4421 against5921 your enemies:341 let not your hearts3824 faint,7401 fear3372 not, and do not tremble,2648 neither408 be you terrified6206 because6440 of them;

4 For the LORD3068 your God430 is he that goes1980 with you, to fight3898 for you against5973 your enemies,341 to save3467 you.

5 And the officers7860 shall speak1696 to the people,5971 saying,559 What4310 man376 is there that has built1129 a new2319 house,1004 and has not dedicated2596 it? let him go3212 and return7725 to his house,1004 lest6435 he die4191 in the battle,4421 and another312 man376 dedicate2596 it.

6 And what4310 man376 is he that has planted5193 a vineyard,3754 and has not yet eaten2490 of it? let him also go3212 and return7725 to his house,1004 lest6435 he die4191 in the battle,4421 and another312 man376 eat2490 of it.

7 And what4310 man376 is there that has betrothed781 a wife,802 and has not taken3947 her? let him go3212 and return7725 to his house,1004 lest6435 he die4191 in the battle,4421 and another312 man376 take3947 her.

8 And the officers7860 shall speak1696 further3254 to the people,5971 and they shall say,559 What4310 man376 is there that is fearful3373 and fainthearted?7390 let him go3212 and return7725 to his house,1004 lest6435 his brethren's251 heart3824 faint4549 as well as his heart.3824

9 And it shall be, when the officers7860 have made an end3615 of speaking1696 to the people 5971that they shall make captains8269 of the armies6635 to lead7218 the people.5971

10 When3588 you come7126 near7126 to a city5892 to fight3898 against5921 it, then proclaim7121 peace7965 to it.

11 And it shall be, if518 it make you answer6030 of peace,7965 and open6605 to you, then it shall be, that all3605 the people5971 that is found4672 therein shall be tributaries4522 to you, and they shall serve5647 you.

12 And if518 it will make no3808 peace7999 with you, but will make war4421 against5973 you, then you shall besiege6696 it:

13 And when the LORD3068 your God430 has delivered5414 it into your hands,3027 you shall smite5221 every3605 male2138 thereof with the edge6310 of the sword:2719

14 But the women,802 and the little2945 ones, and the cattle,929 and all3605 that is in the city,5892 even all3605 the spoil7998 thereof, shall you take962 to yourself; and you shall eat398 the spoil7998 of your enemies,341 which834 the LORD3068 your God430 has given5414 you.

15 Thus3651 shall you do6213 to all3605 the cities5892 which are very3966 far7350 off from you, which834 are not of the cities5892 of these428 2007 nations.1471

16 But of the cities5892 of these428 people,5971 which834 the LORD3068 your God430 does give5414 you for an inheritance,5159 you shall save2421 alive2421 nothing3808 3605 that breathes:5397

17 But you shall utterly destroy2763 them; namely, the Hittites,2850 and the Amorites,567 the Canaanites,3669 and the Perizzites,6522 the Hivites,2340 and the Jebusites;2983 as the LORD3068 your God430 has commanded6680 you:

18 That they teach3925 you not to do6213 after all3605 their abominations,8441 which834 they have done to their gods;430 so should you sin2398 against the LORD3068 your God.430

19 When3588 you shall besiege6696 a city5892 a long7227 time,3117 in making war3898 against5921 it to take8610 it, you shall not destroy7843 the trees6086 thereof by forcing5080 an ax1631 against5921 them: for you may eat398 of them, and you shall not cut3772 them down (for the tree6086 of the field7704 is man's120 life) to employ935 6440 them in the siege:4692

20 Only7535 the trees6086 which834 you know3045 that they be not trees6086 for meat,3978 you shall destroy7843 and cut3772 them down; and you shall build1129 bulwarks4692 against5921 the city5892 that makes6213 war4421 with you, until5704 it be subdued.3381

1 Когда отправитесь в поход против врагов ваших и лицом к лицу встретите силу, вас превосходящую, — войско больше вашего, коней и колесницы, — не бойтесь, ведь с вами будет ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, Который вывел вас из Египта!

2 Пусть перед сражением выйдет к войску священник и скажет, ко всем обращаясь:

3 „Слушай, Израиль! Сегодня в сражение вы вступаете с врагами вашими. Не падайте же духом! Не бойтесь, не трепещите перед ними и не страшитесь их!

4 На битву эту ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, выходит вместе с вами, чтобы сразиться с врагами вашими и спасти вас“.

5 А приставники должны объявить воинам: „Если кто построил новый дом, но еще не начал жить в нем, пусть возвращается домой. Ведь может случиться, что он падет в сражении, и кто-то другой освятит дом — отметит в нем новоселье.

6 И кто насадил виноградник, но плодами его еще не воспользовался, пусть возвращается домой: ведь если падет он в сражении, достанутся те плоды другому.

7 И тот из вас, кто успел обручиться, но еще не взял свою суженую в жены, пусть домой возвращается: ведь если падет он в сражении, кто-то другой возьмет ее в жены“.

8 И вот что еще должны сказать приставники: „Кто малодушен и робок, пусть тоже домой возвращается, дабы робость эта не передалась братьям его“.

9 После этого обращения приставников к войску военачальники примут командование.

10 Подойдя к какому-либо городу, чтобы осадить его, сначала предложите ему мирные условия.

11 Если вам скажут: „Согласны на мир!“ — и добровольно откроют ворота, тогда все жители города должны будут нести трудовую повинность, работая на вас.

12 Если же горожане отвергнут предложение о мире и решатся воевать с вами, — начинайте осаду.

13 Когда ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, дарует вам победу, поразите мечом всех мужчин в городе.

14 Однако вы можете взять себе как добычу женщин, детей, скот и всё, что ни есть в том городе, — всё его добро. Можете пользоваться всем, что возьмете как военную добычу у врагов ваших, — всем, что отдал вам ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш.

15 Вот так вы должны поступать с городами, находящимися далеко от вас, а не с теми, которые принадлежат здешним народам.

16 В городах этих народов, землю которых ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, отдает вам в наследство, не оставляйте в живых никого.

17 По повелению ГОСПОДА, Бога вашего, вы должны предать заклятию и уничтожить хеттов, амореев, ханаанеев, периззеев, хиввеев и евусеев,

18 дабы они не научили вас тем мерзостям, что сами творили в угоду своим богам, и тем не ввели вас в грех против ГОСПОДА, Бога вашего.

19 Когда предпринимаете наступление на какой-нибудь город и приходится его долго держать в осаде, не вырубайте вокруг него деревья. Их плодами вы будете питаться и потому не должны предавать их топору. Такое дерево — не воин в поле, чтобы вам нападать на него.

20 Рубите лишь те деревья, которые, как вы знаете, съедобных плодов не приносят; такие можете использовать для осадных работ против города, ведущего с вами войну, пока не падет он.

5 А приставники должны объявить воинам: „Если кто построил новый дом, но еще не начал жить в нем, пусть возвращается домой. Ведь может случиться, что он падет в сражении, и кто-то другой освятит дом — отметит в нем новоселье.

6 И кто насадил виноградник, но плодами его еще не воспользовался, пусть возвращается домой: ведь если падет он в сражении, достанутся те плоды другому.

8 И вот что еще должны сказать приставники: „Кто малодушен и робок, пусть тоже домой возвращается, дабы робость эта не передалась братьям его“.

9 После этого обращения приставников к войску военачальники примут командование.

10 When3588 you come7126 near7126 to a city5892 to fight3898 against5921 it, then proclaim7121 peace7965 to it.

10 Подойдя к какому-либо городу, чтобы осадить его, сначала предложите ему мирные условия.

13 Когда ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, дарует вам победу, поразите мечом всех мужчин в городе.

14 Однако вы можете взять себе как добычу женщин, детей, скот и всё, что ни есть в том городе, — всё его добро. Можете пользоваться всем, что возьмете как военную добычу у врагов ваших, — всем, что отдал вам ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш.

15 Thus3651 shall you do6213 to all3605 the cities5892 which are very3966 far7350 off from you, which834 are not of the cities5892 of these428 2007 nations.1471

15 Вот так вы должны поступать с городами, находящимися далеко от вас, а не с теми, которые принадлежат здешним народам.

16 But of the cities5892 of these428 people,5971 which834 the LORD3068 your God430 does give5414 you for an inheritance,5159 you shall save2421 alive2421 nothing3808 3605 that breathes:5397

16 В городах этих народов, землю которых ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, отдает вам в наследство, не оставляйте в живых никого.
