Hosea

Chapter 2

1 Say559 you to your brothers,251 Ammi;5971 and to your sisters,269 Ruhamah.7355

2 Plead7378 with your mother,517 plead:7378 for she is not my wife,802 neither3808 am I her husband:376 let her therefore put5493 away5493 her prostitutions2183 out of her sight,6440 and her adulteries5005 from between996 her breasts;7699

3 Lest6435 I strip6584 her naked,6174 and set3322 her as in the day3117 that she was born,3205 and make7760 her as a wilderness,4057 and set7896 her like a dry6723 land,776 and slay4191 her with thirst.6772

4 And I will not have mercy7355 on her children;1121 for they be the children1121 of prostitutions.2183

5 For their mother517 has played the harlot:2181 she that conceived2029 them has done shamefully:3001 for she said,559 I will go3212 after310 my lovers,157 that give5414 me my bread3899 and my water,4325 my wool6785 and my flax,6593 my oil8081 and my drink.8250

6 Therefore,3651 behold,2005 I will hedge7753 up your way1870 with thorns,5518 and make1443 a wall,1447 that she shall not find4672 her paths.5410

7 And she shall follow7291 after her lovers,157 but she shall not overtake5381 them; and she shall seek1245 them, but shall not find4672 them: then shall she say,559 I will go3212 and return7725 to my first7223 husband;376 for then227 was it better2896 with me than now.6258

8 For she did not know3045 that I gave5414 her corn,1715 and wine,8492 and oil,3323 and multiplied7235 her silver3701 and gold,2091 which they prepared6213 for Baal.1168

9 Therefore3651 will I return,7725 and take3947 away my corn1715 in the time6256 thereof, and my wine8492 in the season4150 thereof, and will recover5337 my wool6785 and my flax6593 given to cover3680 her nakedness.6172

10 And now6258 will I discover1540 her lewdness5040 in the sight5869 of her lovers,157 and none3808 shall deliver5337 her out of my hand.3027

11 I will also cause all3605 her mirth4885 to cease,7673 her feast2282 days, her new2320 moons,2320 and her sabbaths,7676 and all3605 her solemn4150 feasts.4150

12 And I will destroy8074 her vines1612 and her fig8384 trees, whereof834 she has said,559 These1992 are my rewards866 that my lovers157 have given5414 me: and I will make7760 them a forest,3293 and the beasts2416 of the field7704 shall eat398 them.

13 And I will visit6485 on her the days3117 of Baalim,1168 wherein834 she burned6999 incense6999 to them, and she decked5710 herself with her earrings5141 and her jewels,2484 and she went3212 after310 her lovers,157 and forgot7911 me, said5002 the LORD.3068

14 Therefore,3651 behold,2009 I will allure6601 her, and bring1980 her into the wilderness,4057 and speak1696 comfortably5921 3820 to her.

15 And I will give5414 her her vineyards3754 from there,8033 and the valley6010 of Achor5911 for a door6607 of hope:8615 and she shall sing6030 there,8033 as in the days3117 of her youth,5271 and as in the day3117 when she came5927 up out of the land776 of Egypt.4714

16 And it shall be at that day,3117 said5002 the LORD,3068 that you shall call7121 me Ishi;376 and shall call7121 me no3808 more5750 Baali.1180

17 For I will take5493 away5493 the names8034 of Baalim1168 out of her mouth,6310 and they shall no3808 more5750 be remembered2142 by their name.8034

18 And in that day3117 will I make3772 a covenant1285 for them with the beasts2416 of the field 7704and with the fowls5775 of heaven,8064 and with the creeping7431 things of the ground:127 and I will break7665 the bow7198 and the sword2719 and the battle4421 out of the earth,776 and will make them to lie7901 down7901 safely.983

19 And I will betroth781 you to me for ever;5769 yes, I will betroth781 you to me in righteousness,6664 and in judgment,4941 and in loving kindness,2617 and in mercies.7356

20 I will even betroth781 you to me in faithfulness:530 and you shall know3045 the LORD.3068

21 And it shall come1961 to pass in that day,3117 I will hear,6030 said5002 the LORD,3068 I will hear6030 the heavens,8064 and they shall hear6030 the earth;776

22 And the earth776 shall hear6030 the corn,1715 and the wine,8492 and the oil;3323 and they shall hear6030 Jezreel.3157

23 And I will sow2232 her to me in the earth;776 and I will have mercy7355 on her that had not obtained5375 mercy;7355 and I will say559 to them which were not my people,5971 You are my people;5971 and they shall say,559 You are my God.430

Chapter 2

1 SAY to your brethren, Ammi, my people; and to your sisters, Rekhimtha, beloved.

2 Plead with your mother, plead; for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband; let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight and her adulteries from between her breasts,

3 Lest I strip her naked and leave her bare as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness and as a dry land, and cause her to die with thirst.

4 And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they are the children of whoredoms.

5 For their mother has played the harlot; she that conceived them has done shamefully; for she said, I will go after my lovers who give me my bread and my water, my clothes and my linen, my oil and everything that I need.

6 Therefore, behold, I will hedge up her way with thorns, and fence her paths so that she shall not find her paths.

7 And she shall follow after her lovers and shall not overtake them, and she shall seek them, but shall not find them; then shall she say, I will return and go to my first husband; for it was better with me then than now.

8 For she did not know that it was I who gave her wheat and wine and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, some of which they made for the images of Baal.

9 Therefore I will return and take away my wheat in its time and my wine in its season, and will take away my wool and my linen which I gave her to cover her nakedness.

10 And now I will uncover her nakedness in the presence of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of my hands.

11 And I will cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.

12 And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees, of which she said, These are presents which my lovers have given me; and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them.

13 And I will punish her for the evils of the days of Baal, in which she burned incense to him and decked herself with her earrings and her pearls and went after her lovers and forgot me, says the LORD.

14 Therefore, behold, I will comfort her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak lovingly to her.

15 And I will give her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor that it may open her understanding; and she shall be humbled there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

16 And it shall be on that day, says the LORD, that you shall call me, my husband, and shall call me no more Baali.

17 For I will take away the name of Baal out of her mouth, and they shall no more remember his name.

18 And on that day I will make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field and with the fowls of the air and with the creeping things of the ground; and I will do away with the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and I will make them to dwell in safety.

19 And I will betroth you to me for ever; yea, I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice and in lovingkindness and in mercy.

20 So I will betroth you to me in faithfulness; and you shall know the LORD.

21 And it shall come to pass on that day, says the LORD, I will answer the heavens, and they shall answer the earth;

22 And the earth shall answer the grain and the wine and the oil; and they shall answer Jezreel.

23 And I will sow her for myself in the earth; and I will have mercy on La-ethrakhmath, not beloved, and I will call La-ammi, not my people, Ammi, my people, and they shall say, Thou art my God.
