Chapter 2

1 AND the angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bikhian, and said to the children of Israel, Thus says the LORD, I have brought you up from the land of Egypt, and have brought you into the land which I swore to your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.

2 And you shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; you shall destroy their altars; but you have not obeyed my voice. Why have you done this?

3 Wherefore I also said, I will not destroy them from before you; but they shall become vanity, and their gods shall be a stumbling block to you.

4 And when the angel of the LORD spoke these words to the children of Israel, all the people lifted up their voices and wept.

5 And the people called the name of that place Bikhian; and they sacrificed there to the LORD.

6 And when Joshua had dismissed the people, the children of Israel went away every man to his inheritance to possess the land.

7 And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the works of the LORD and the great things which he had done for Israel.

8 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of one hundred and ten years.

9 And they buried him in the land of his inheritance at Timnath-serah on the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of mount Gaash.

10 And all that generation were gathered to their fathers; and there arose another generation after them, who did not know the LORD nor the works which he had done for Israel.

11 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baal;

12 And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, gods of the peoples who were round about them, and they worshipped them, and provoked the LORD to anger.

13 So they forsook the LORD and served Baal and Ashtaroth.

14 land the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers, and they plundered them, and he delivered them into the hands of their enemies round about them, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies.

15 Wherever they went, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn to them; and they were greatly distressed.

16 Then the LORD raised up judges among the Israelites, and they delivered them out of the hand of those who plundered them.

17 And yet they would not hearken to their judges, because they had gone astray after other gods and worshipped them; they turned aside quickly from the way in which their fathers walked, who had listened to the commandments of the LORD, but they did not do so.

18 And when the LORD raised up judges for them, then the LORD was with the judges, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judges; the LORD would hear their groaning because of their oppressors and those that drove them away.

19 And it came to pass, when the judges were dead, they returned and became more corrupt than their fathers, in following other gods to serve and to worship them; they did not cease from their wickedness, nor from their evil ways.

20 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel; and he said, Because this people have transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened to my voice;

21 I also will no longer destroy any man from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died;

22 That through them I may prove Israel whether they will keep the way of the LORD, and whether they will walk in it, as their fathers did keep it, or not.

23 Therefore the LORD left these nations, and did not destroy them hastily; neither had he delivered them into the hand of Joshua.

2 и вы не вступайте3772 в союз1285 с жителями3427 земли776 сей; жертвенники4196 их разрушьте».5422 Но вы не послушали8085 гласа6963 Моего. Что вы это сделали?6213

3 И потому говорю559 Я: не изгоню1644 их от вас, и будут они вам петлею,6654 и боги430 их будут для вас сетью.4170

4 Когда Ангел4397 Господень3068 сказал1696 слова1697 сии всем сынам1121 Израилевым,3478 то народ5971 поднял5375 громкий вопль6963 и заплакал.1058

5 От сего и называют7121 то место4725 Бохим.1066 Там принесли2076 они жертву2076 Господу.3068

6 Когда Иисус3091 распустил7971 народ,5971 и пошли3212 сыны1121 Израилевы,3478 каждый376 в свой удел,5159 чтобы получить3423 в наследие3423 землю,776

7 тогда народ5971 служил5647 Господу3068 во все дни3117 Иисуса3091 и во все дни3117 старейшин,2205 которых жизнь3117 продлилась748 после310 Иисуса3091 и которые видели7200 все великие1419 дела4639 Господни,3068 какие Он сделал6213 Израилю.3478

8 Но когда умер4191 Иисус,3091 сын1121 Навин,5126 раб5650 Господень,3068 будучи ста3967 десяти6235 лет,81411121

9 и похоронили6912 его в пределе1366 удела5159 его в Фамнаф-Сараи,8556 на горе2022 Ефремовой,669 на север6828 от горы2022 Гааша;1608

10 и когда весь народ1755 оный отошел622 к отцам1 своим, и восстал6965 после310 них другой312 род,1755 который не знал3045 Господа3068 и дел4639 Его, какие Он делал6213 Израилю,3478 —

11 тогда сыны1121 Израилевы3478 стали6213 делать6213 злое7451 пред очами5869 Господа3068 и стали5647 служить5647 Ваалам;1168

12 оставили5800 Господа3068 Бога430 отцов1 своих, Который вывел3318 их из земли776 Египетской,4714 и обратились3212310 к другим312 богам,430 богам430 народов,5971 окружавших5439 их, и стали7812 поклоняться7812 им, и раздражили3707 Господа;3068

13 оставили5800 Господа3068 и стали5647 служить5647 Ваалу1168 и Астартам.6252

14 И воспылал2734 гнев639 Господень3068 на Израиля,3478 и предал5414 их в руки3027 грабителей,8154 и грабили8155 их; и предал4376 их в руки3027 врагов,341 окружавших5439 их, и не могли3201 уже5750 устоять5975 пред3942 врагами341 своими.

15 Куда они ни пойдут,3318 рука3027 Господня3068 везде была им во зло,7451 как говорил1696 им Господь3068 и как клялся7650 им Господь.3068 И им было3334 весьма3966 тесно.3334

16 И воздвигал6965 им Господь3068 судей,8199 которые спасали3467 их от рук3027 грабителей8154 их;

17 но и судей8199 они не слушали,8085 а ходили2181 блудно2181 вслед310 других312 богов430 и поклонялись7812 им, скоро4118 уклонялись5493 от пути,1870 коим ходили1980 отцы1 их, повинуясь8085 заповедям4687 Господним.3068 Они так не делали.6213

18 Когда Господь3068 воздвигал6965 им судей,8199 то Сам Господь3068 был8199 с судьею8199 и спасал3467 их от врагов3027341 их во все дни3117 судьи:8199 ибо жалел5162 их Господь,3068 слыша стон5009 их от угнетавших3905 и притеснявших1766 их.

19 Но как скоро умирал4194 судья,8199 они опять7725 делали7725 хуже7843 отцов1 своих, уклоняясь3212310 к другим312 богам,430 служа5647 им и поклоняясь7812 им. Не отставали5307 от дел4611 своих и от стропотного7186 пути1870 своего.

20 И воспылал2734 гнев639 Господень3068 на Израиля,3478 и сказал559 Он: за то, что народ1471 сей преступает5674 завет1285 Мой, который Я поставил6680 с отцами1 их, и не слушает8085 гласа6963 Моего,

21 и Я не стану3254 уже изгонять3423 от них ни одного376 из тех народов,1471 которых оставил5800 Иисус,3091 когда умирал,4191 —

22 чтобы искушать5254 ими Израиля:3478 станут8104 ли они держаться8104 пути1870 Господня3068 и ходить3212 по нему, как держались8104 отцы1 их, или нет?

23 И оставил3240 Господь3068 народы1471 сии и не1115 изгнал3423 их вскоре4118 и не предал5414 их в руки3027 Иисуса.3091

7 And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the works of the LORD and the great things which he had done for Israel.

8 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of one hundred and ten years.

9 And they buried him in the land of his inheritance at Timnath-serah on the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of mount Gaash.

23 Therefore the LORD left these nations, and did not destroy them hastily; neither had he delivered them into the hand of Joshua.
