Chapter 14

1 THEN all the congregation was in commotion, and lifted up their voices and cried; and the people wept that night.

2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron; and the whole congregation said to them, Would God we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would God that we had died in this wilderness!

3 Why has the LORD brought us into this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should be a prey? We were better off when we dwelt in Egypt.

4 And they said one to another, Let us appoint a leader, and let us return to Egypt.

5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jophaniah, who were of those who had spied out the land, rent their clothes;

7 And they said to all the congregation of the children of Israel, The land through which we passed to spy it out is an exceedingly good land.

8 If the LORD delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows indeed with milk and honey.

9 Only do not rebel against the LORD, neither be afraid of the people of the land; for their conquest will be as easy as eating bread; their strength has left them, and the LORD is with us; fear them not.

10 But the whole congregation said to stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.

11 And the LORD said to Moses, How long will this people provoke me? And how long will they not believe me, for all the signs which I have done among them?

12 I will smite them with pestilence, and destroy them, and I will make of you a nation which is greater and mightier than they.

13 And Moses said to the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it (for thou didst bring up this people in thy might from among them),

14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land; for they have heard that thou LORD art in the midst of this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud stands over them, and that thou goest before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night.

15 And if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations who have heard the fame of thee will say,

16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.

17 And now, let thy power, O LORD, be great according as thou hast spoken, saying,

18 The LORD is longsuffering and of great mercy, and thou forgivest iniquity and transgression, by no means clearing the guilty, but visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and upon their children's children to the third and fourth generation.

19 Pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven them from Egypt even until now.

20 And the LORD said to Moses, I have forgiven them according to your word;

21 But as truly as I live, the whole earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.

22 And yet all the men who have seen my glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness have tempted me, behold now, these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

23 Surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any one of those who provoked me see it;

24 But my servant Caleb, because he has my spirit with him and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land into which he went; and his descendants shall possess it.

25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the mountains.) Tomorrow turn and set out for the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.

26 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

27 How long shall this wicked congregation murmur in my presence? I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel which they murmur in my presence.

28 Say to them, As I live, says the LORD, as you have spoken in my presence, so will I do to you;

29 Your corpses shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, because you have murmured against me.

30 You shall not come into the land concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jophaniah, and Joshua the son of Nun.

31 But your little ones, who you said would become the prey, and your sons who today do not know good and evil, they shall enter into the land, and I will bring them there, and they shall know the land which you have despised.

32 But as for you, your corpses shall fall in this wilderness.

33 And your sons shall be shepherds forty years in this wilderness, and shall suffer for your whoredom until your corpses are consumed in this wilderness.

34 According to the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, a year for each day, shall you suffer for your iniquities, forty years; then you shall know that it is because you have murmured before me.

35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it to all this evil congregation that are gathered together before me; in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

36 And the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned and made all the congregation murmur against him by publishing an evil report concerning the land,

37 These men who published an evil report of the land died by a sudden plague before the LORD.

38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jophaniah, who were of the men who went to spy out the land, still lived.

39 And Moses told these sayings to all the children of Israel; and the people mourned greatly.

40 And they rose up early in the morning and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, Behold, we will go up to the place which the LORD has promised us; for we have sinned.

41 And Moses said to them, Why now do you transgress the commandment of the LORD? Therefore you shall not succeed.

42 Do not go up, for the LORD is not with you; lest you be defeated before your enemies.

43 For the Canaanites and the Amalekites are there before you, and you shall fall by the sword; because you are turned away from following the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.

44 Yet they started to go up to the top of the mountain; but neither the ark of the covenant of the LORD nor Moses departed out of the camp.

45 Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites who dwelt in that mountain came down and smote them and pursued them as far as Hirmah.

1 В ту ночь среди народа в стане поднялся крик.

2 Люди жаловались против Моисея и Аарона: «Лучше нам было умереть в Египте или в пустыне!

3 Неужели Господь привёл нас в эту новую страну, чтобы нас убили на войне? Враг убьёт нас, заберёт наших жён и детей. Лучше бы нам возвратиться обратно в Египет!»

4 И сказали друг другу люди: «Давайте выберем себе другого предводителя и возвратимся в Египет!»

5 Моисей и Аарон пали ниц перед собравшимся там народом.

6 Иисус, сын Навина, и Халев, сын Иефоннии, двое из обследовавших землю, очень огорчились

7 и сказали всему собравшемуся там народу: «Земля, которую мы видели, очень, очень хороша,

8 в ней всего в изобилии. Если мы угодны Господу, то Он приведёт нас в эту землю и даст её нам.

9 Так не восставайте же против Господа. Не бойтесь народа той земли, мы можем одолеть этих людей, у них нет никакой защиты, никакого спасения, а с нами Господь. Не бойтесь их!»

10 Весь народ стал сговариваться, чтобы забить Иисуса и Халева камнями. Но слава Господняя появилась над шатром собрания, где все могли видеть её.

11 Господь заговорил с Моисеем, сказав: «До каких пор этот народ будет восставать против Меня? Они показывают, что не верят Мне, не верят в Мою силу. Они отказываются верить Мне даже после того, как Я им явил множество великих знамений! Я совершил среди них множество великих деяний.

12 Я поражу их всех страшным мором, уничтожу их и произведу от тебя другой народ, и твой народ будет многочисленнее и сильнее этого народа».

13 Тогда Моисей сказал Господу: «Если Ты уничтожишь израильтян, египтяне услышат об этом. А они знают, что Ты вывел Свой народ из Египта Своей великой силой.

14 Египтяне уже рассказали обо всём этом ханаанскому народу, который знает, что Ты, Господь, находишься со Своим народом и что люди видели Тебя. Хананеи знают и о священном облаке, которое ведёт за собой Твой народ днём, а ночью становится огненным, чтобы вести за собой Твой народ.

15 Поэтому не губи этот народ! Если погубишь его, все народы, слышавшие о Твоём могуществе, скажут:

16 „Господь не сумел вывести Свой народ в ту землю, которую обещал им, и потому погубил их в пустыне”.

17 Так покажи же теперь Свою силу, Господи! Покажи её, как обещал!

18 Ты сказал: „Господь не тороплив на гнев, Господь исполнен великой любви, Господь прощает тех, кто виновен и нарушил закон, но также и наказывает виновных. Господь наказывает тех людей, а также их детей и внуков, и даже правнуков наказывает за эти провинности”.

19 Так покажи же Твою великую любовь этому народу. Прости их грехи, прости, как прощал их с тех пор, как они ушли из Египта, и по сей день».

20 И ответил Господь: «Хорошо, Я прощу народ, если ты просишь.

21 Но, истинно говорю, как верно то, что Я жив и силой Моей полнится земля, так верно и Моё обещание тебе:

22 ни один человек из тех, кого Я вывел из Египта, никогда не увидит Ханаанской земли! Те люди видели Мою славу и великие знамения, явленные Мной в Египте, видели и великие деяния, свершённые Мной в пустыне. Но они уже десять раз ослушались Меня, испытывая Моё терпение.

23 Я дал обещание их предкам, обещал, что дам им эту землю. Но никто из восставших против Меня никогда не вступит на эту землю!

24 Только Мой слуга Халев отличается от них и повинуется Мне безоговорочно, за это Я приведу его в ту землю, которую он уже видел, и его народ получит её!

25 Амаликитяне и хананеи живут в долине, поэтому завтра покиньте эти края и возвращайтесь обратно в пустыню по дороге, ведущей к Красному морю».

26 Господь сказал Моисею и Аарону:

27 «Долго ли ещё этот злой народ будет жаловаться на Меня? Я слышал их жалобы и ропот.

28 Так скажи им: „Господь говорит, что непременно сделает с вами всё то, на что вы жалуетесь. Вот что случится с вами:

29 вы погибнете в этой пустыне, всякий, кому двадцать лет или больше и кто был пересчитан в числе Моего народа, умрёт. Вы жаловались на Меня, Господа,

30 и потому ни один из вас никогда не войдёт в землю, которую Я обещал вам, и не будет жить на ней. Только Халев, сын Иефоннии, и Иисус, сын Навина, войдут в эту землю.

31 Вы испугались и стали жаловаться, что ваши враги в этой новой земле отнимут у вас ваших детей. Я же говорю вам, что приведу ваших детей в эту землю и они будут иметь всё то, что вы отказались принять.

32 А вы погибнете в пустыне.

33 Ваши дети сорок лет будут блуждать в этой пустыне подобно пастухам и будут страдать из-за того, что вы не были Мне верны. Они должны будут страдать до тех пор, пока вы все не умрёте в этой пустыне.

34 Сорок лет вы будете страдать за ваши грехи, по одному году за каждый из сорока дней, в которые вы обследовали эту землю. И тогда вы узнаете, насколько это ужасно, когда Я против вас”.

35 Я, Господь, говорю и обещаю, что так и сделаю со всем этим нечестивым народом. Эти люди восстали против Меня, и потому все умрут в этой пустыне».

36 Те, кого Моисей послал обследовать новую землю, возвратившись обратно, стали поднимать ропот среди всего израильского народа. Это они сказали, что народ недостаточно силён, чтобы вступить на ту землю.

37 Эти люди были повинны в том, что среди народа поднялось волнение, и потому Господь навёл на них болезнь, от которой они умерли.

38 Но Господь спас двоих из тех, кто был послан обследовать землю: Иисуса, сына Навина, и Халева, сына Иефоннии, и они не заболели болезнью, от которой умерли остальные десять человек.

39 Моисей рассказал всё это израильскому народу, и народ был очень огорчён.

40 И вот рано утром следующего дня люди стали подниматься в горы, говоря: «Мы согрешили и раскаиваемся, что не доверились Богу. Мы пойдём на то место, которое Господь обещал нам».

41 Но Моисей сказал: «Почему вы не слушаете повеления Господа? Вам ни в чём не будет сопутствовать успех!

42 Не ходите в ту землю! Так как Господь не с вами, то враги легко одолеют вас.

43 Амаликитяне и хананеи будут там сражаться с вами. Вы отвернулись от Господа, и потому Он не будет с вами во время битвы, и вы все будете убиты в сражении».

44 Но народ не поверил Моисею и люди стали подниматься в горы, Моисей же и ковчег Соглашения Господнего остались в стане.

45 Жившие в горах амаликитяне и хананеи спустились вниз, напали на израильтян, разбили их и гнали до самой Хормы.

2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron; and the whole congregation said to them, Would God we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would God that we had died in this wilderness!	2 Люди жаловались против Моисея и Аарона: «Лучше нам было умереть в Египте или в пустыне!
3 Why has the LORD brought us into this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should be a prey? We were better off when we dwelt in Egypt.	3 Неужели Господь привёл нас в эту новую страну, чтобы нас убили на войне? Враг убьёт нас, заберёт наших жён и детей. Лучше бы нам возвратиться обратно в Египет!»
4 And they said one to another, Let us appoint a leader, and let us return to Egypt.	4 И сказали друг другу люди: «Давайте выберем себе другого предводителя и возвратимся в Египет!»

6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jophaniah, who were of those who had spied out the land, rent their clothes;	6 Иисус, сын Навина, и Халев, сын Иефоннии, двое из обследовавших землю, очень огорчились
7 And they said to all the congregation of the children of Israel, The land through which we passed to spy it out is an exceedingly good land.	7 и сказали всему собравшемуся там народу: «Земля, которую мы видели, очень, очень хороша,
8 If the LORD delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows indeed with milk and honey.	8 в ней всего в изобилии. Если мы угодны Господу, то Он приведёт нас в эту землю и даст её нам.
9 Only do not rebel against the LORD, neither be afraid of the people of the land; for their conquest will be as easy as eating bread; their strength has left them, and the LORD is with us; fear them not.	9 Так не восставайте же против Господа. Не бойтесь народа той земли, мы можем одолеть этих людей, у них нет никакой защиты, никакого спасения, а с нами Господь. Не бойтесь их!»

And the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.	10 Весь народ стал сговариваться, чтобы забить Иисуса и Халева камнями. Но слава Господняя появилась над шатром собрания, где все могли видеть её.
11 And the LORD said to Moses, How long will this people provoke me? And how long will they not believe me, for all the signs which I have done among them?	11 Господь заговорил с Моисеем, сказав: «До каких пор этот народ будет восставать против Меня? Они показывают, что не верят Мне, не верят в Мою силу. Они отказываются верить Мне даже после того, как Я им явил множество великих знамений! Я совершил среди них множество великих деяний.
12 I will smite them with pestilence, and destroy them, and I will make of you a nation which is greater and mightier than they.	12 Я поражу их всех страшным мором, уничтожу их и произведу от тебя другой народ, и твой народ будет многочисленнее и сильнее этого народа».
13 And Moses said to the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it (for thou didst bring up this people in thy might from among them),	13 Тогда Моисей сказал Господу: «Если Ты уничтожишь израильтян, египтяне услышат об этом. А они знают, что Ты вывел Свой народ из Египта Своей великой силой.
14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land; for they have heard that thou LORD art in the midst of this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud stands over them, and that thou goest before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night.	14 Египтяне уже рассказали обо всём этом ханаанскому народу, который знает, что Ты, Господь, находишься со Своим народом и что люди видели Тебя. Хананеи знают и о священном облаке, которое ведёт за собой Твой народ днём, а ночью становится огненным, чтобы вести за собой Твой народ.
15 And if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations who have heard the fame of thee will say,	15 Поэтому не губи этот народ! Если погубишь его, все народы, слышавшие о Твоём могуществе, скажут:
16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.	16 „Господь не сумел вывести Свой народ в ту землю, которую обещал им, и потому погубил их в пустыне”.
17 And now, let thy power, O LORD, be great according as thou hast spoken, saying,	17 Так покажи же теперь Свою силу, Господи! Покажи её, как обещал!
18 The LORD is longsuffering and of great mercy, and thou forgivest iniquity and transgression, by no means clearing the guilty, but visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and upon their children's children to the third and fourth generation.	18 Ты сказал: „Господь не тороплив на гнев, Господь исполнен великой любви, Господь прощает тех, кто виновен и нарушил закон, но также и наказывает виновных. Господь наказывает тех людей, а также их детей и внуков, и даже правнуков наказывает за эти провинности”.
19 Pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven them from Egypt even until now.	19 Так покажи же Твою великую любовь этому народу. Прости их грехи, прости, как прощал их с тех пор, как они ушли из Египта, и по сей день».
20 And the LORD said to Moses, I have forgiven them according to your word;	20 И ответил Господь: «Хорошо, Я прощу народ, если ты просишь.
21 But as truly as I live, the whole earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.	21 Но, истинно говорю, как верно то, что Я жив и силой Моей полнится земля, так верно и Моё обещание тебе:
22 And yet all the men who have seen my glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness have tempted me, behold now, these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;	22 ни один человек из тех, кого Я вывел из Египта, никогда не увидит Ханаанской земли! Те люди видели Мою славу и великие знамения, явленные Мной в Египте, видели и великие деяния, свершённые Мной в пустыне. Но они уже десять раз ослушались Меня, испытывая Моё терпение.
23 Surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any one of those who provoked me see it;	23 Я дал обещание их предкам, обещал, что дам им эту землю. Но никто из восставших против Меня никогда не вступит на эту землю!
24 But my servant Caleb, because he has my spirit with him and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land into which he went; and his descendants shall possess it.	24 Только Мой слуга Халев отличается от них и повинуется Мне безоговорочно, за это Я приведу его в ту землю, которую он уже видел, и его народ получит её!
25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the mountains.) Tomorrow turn and set out for the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.	25 Амаликитяне и хананеи живут в долине, поэтому завтра покиньте эти края и возвращайтесь обратно в пустыню по дороге, ведущей к Красному морю».
26 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,	26 Господь сказал Моисею и Аарону:
27 How long shall this wicked congregation murmur in my presence? I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel which they murmur in my presence.	27 «Долго ли ещё этот злой народ будет жаловаться на Меня? Я слышал их жалобы и ропот.
28 Say to them, As I live, says the LORD, as you have spoken in my presence, so will I do to you;	28 Так скажи им: „Господь говорит, что непременно сделает с вами всё то, на что вы жалуетесь. Вот что случится с вами:
29 Your corpses shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, because you have murmured against me.	29 вы погибнете в этой пустыне, всякий, кому двадцать лет или больше и кто был пересчитан в числе Моего народа, умрёт. Вы жаловались на Меня, Господа,
30 You shall not come into the land concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jophaniah, and Joshua the son of Nun.	30 и потому ни один из вас никогда не войдёт в землю, которую Я обещал вам, и не будет жить на ней. Только Халев, сын Иефоннии, и Иисус, сын Навина, войдут в эту землю.
31 But your little ones, who you said would become the prey, and your sons who today do not know good and evil, they shall enter into the land, and I will bring them there, and they shall know the land which you have despised.	31 Вы испугались и стали жаловаться, что ваши враги в этой новой земле отнимут у вас ваших детей. Я же говорю вам, что приведу ваших детей в эту землю и они будут иметь всё то, что вы отказались принять.
32 But as for you, your corpses shall fall in this wilderness.	32 А вы погибнете в пустыне.
33 And your sons shall be shepherds forty years in this wilderness, and shall suffer for your whoredom until your corpses are consumed in this wilderness.	33 Ваши дети сорок лет будут блуждать в этой пустыне подобно пастухам и будут страдать из-за того, что вы не были Мне верны. Они должны будут страдать до тех пор, пока вы все не умрёте в этой пустыне.

И тогда вы узнаете, насколько это ужасно, когда Я против вас”.
35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it to all this evil congregation that are gathered together before me; in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.	35 Я, Господь, говорю и обещаю, что так и сделаю со всем этим нечестивым народом. Эти люди восстали против Меня, и потому все умрут в этой пустыне».
36 And the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned and made all the congregation murmur against him by publishing an evil report concerning the land,	36 Те, кого Моисей послал обследовать новую землю, возвратившись обратно, стали поднимать ропот среди всего израильского народа. Это они сказали, что народ недостаточно силён, чтобы вступить на ту землю.
37 These men who published an evil report of the land died by a sudden plague before the LORD.	37 Эти люди были повинны в том, что среди народа поднялось волнение, и потому Господь навёл на них болезнь, от которой они умерли.
38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jophaniah, who were of the men who went to spy out the land, still lived.	38 Но Господь спас двоих из тех, кто был послан обследовать землю: Иисуса, сына Навина, и Халева, сына Иефоннии, и они не заболели болезнью, от которой умерли остальные десять человек.
39 And Moses told these sayings to all the children of Israel; and the people mourned greatly.	39 Моисей рассказал всё это израильскому народу, и народ был очень огорчён.

43 For the Canaanites and the Amalekites are there before you, and you shall fall by the sword; because you are turned away from following the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.	43 Амаликитяне и хананеи будут там сражаться с вами. Вы отвернулись от Господа, и потому Он не будет с вами во время битвы, и вы все будете убиты в сражении».
44 Yet they started to go up to the top of the mountain; but neither the ark of the covenant of the LORD nor Moses departed out of the camp.	44 Но народ не поверил Моисею и люди стали подниматься в горы, Моисей же и ковчег Соглашения Господнего остались в стане.
45 Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites who dwelt in that mountain came down and smote them and pursued them as far as Hirmah.	45 Жившие в горах амаликитяне и хананеи спустились вниз, напали на израильтян, разбили их и гнали до самой Хормы.
