Chapter 14

1 THEN all the congregation was in commotion, and lifted up their voices and cried; and the people wept that night.

2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron; and the whole congregation said to them, Would God we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would God that we had died in this wilderness!

3 Why has the LORD brought us into this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should be a prey? We were better off when we dwelt in Egypt.

4 And they said one to another, Let us appoint a leader, and let us return to Egypt.

5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jophaniah, who were of those who had spied out the land, rent their clothes;

7 And they said to all the congregation of the children of Israel, The land through which we passed to spy it out is an exceedingly good land.

8 If the LORD delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows indeed with milk and honey.

9 Only do not rebel against the LORD, neither be afraid of the people of the land; for their conquest will be as easy as eating bread; their strength has left them, and the LORD is with us; fear them not.

10 But the whole congregation said to stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.

11 And the LORD said to Moses, How long will this people provoke me? And how long will they not believe me, for all the signs which I have done among them?

12 I will smite them with pestilence, and destroy them, and I will make of you a nation which is greater and mightier than they.

13 And Moses said to the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it (for thou didst bring up this people in thy might from among them),

14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land; for they have heard that thou LORD art in the midst of this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud stands over them, and that thou goest before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night.

15 And if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations who have heard the fame of thee will say,

16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.

17 And now, let thy power, O LORD, be great according as thou hast spoken, saying,

18 The LORD is longsuffering and of great mercy, and thou forgivest iniquity and transgression, by no means clearing the guilty, but visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and upon their children's children to the third and fourth generation.

19 Pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven them from Egypt even until now.

20 And the LORD said to Moses, I have forgiven them according to your word;

21 But as truly as I live, the whole earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.

22 And yet all the men who have seen my glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness have tempted me, behold now, these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

23 Surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any one of those who provoked me see it;

24 But my servant Caleb, because he has my spirit with him and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land into which he went; and his descendants shall possess it.

25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the mountains.) Tomorrow turn and set out for the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.

26 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

27 How long shall this wicked congregation murmur in my presence? I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel which they murmur in my presence.

28 Say to them, As I live, says the LORD, as you have spoken in my presence, so will I do to you;

29 Your corpses shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, because you have murmured against me.

30 You shall not come into the land concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jophaniah, and Joshua the son of Nun.

31 But your little ones, who you said would become the prey, and your sons who today do not know good and evil, they shall enter into the land, and I will bring them there, and they shall know the land which you have despised.

32 But as for you, your corpses shall fall in this wilderness.

33 And your sons shall be shepherds forty years in this wilderness, and shall suffer for your whoredom until your corpses are consumed in this wilderness.

34 According to the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, a year for each day, shall you suffer for your iniquities, forty years; then you shall know that it is because you have murmured before me.

35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it to all this evil congregation that are gathered together before me; in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

36 And the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned and made all the congregation murmur against him by publishing an evil report concerning the land,

37 These men who published an evil report of the land died by a sudden plague before the LORD.

38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jophaniah, who were of the men who went to spy out the land, still lived.

39 And Moses told these sayings to all the children of Israel; and the people mourned greatly.

40 And they rose up early in the morning and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, Behold, we will go up to the place which the LORD has promised us; for we have sinned.

41 And Moses said to them, Why now do you transgress the commandment of the LORD? Therefore you shall not succeed.

42 Do not go up, for the LORD is not with you; lest you be defeated before your enemies.

43 For the Canaanites and the Amalekites are there before you, and you shall fall by the sword; because you are turned away from following the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.

44 Yet they started to go up to the top of the mountain; but neither the ark of the covenant of the LORD nor Moses departed out of the camp.

45 Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites who dwelt in that mountain came down and smote them and pursued them as far as Hirmah.

1 Тогда все общество подняло вопль, и плакал народ во [всю] ту ночь.

2 И стали роптать на Моисея и Аарона все сыны Израилевы, и все общество сказало им: о, если бы мы умерли в земле Египетской, или умерли бы в пустыне сей!

3 И для чего Господь ведет нас в землю сию, чтоб мы пали от меча? Жены наши и дети наши достанутся в добычу врагам. Не лучше ли нам возвратиться в Египет?

4 И сказали друг другу: поставим [над собою] начальника, и возвратимся в Египет.

5 Моисей и Аарон пали на лица свои пред всем собранием общества сынов Израилевых.

6 И Иисус, сын Навин, и Халев, сын Иефонниин, из обозревавших землю, разодрали одежды свои,

7 И сказали всему обществу сынов Израилевых: земля, которую мы проходили для обозрения, есть земля самая лучшая.

8 Если любит нас Господь, то введет нас в землю сию и даст нам сию землю, в которой течет молоко и мед.

9 Только против Господа не восставайте, и не бойтесь народа земли сей; поелику он достанется нам на съедение, защиты у них не стало; а с нами Господь, не бойтесь их,

10 Все общество положило побить их камнями; но слава Господня явилась [в облаке] в скинии собрания всем сынам Израилевым.

11 И сказал Господь Моисею: доколе будет пренебрегать Меня народ сей? И доколе не будет Мне верить при всех тех знамениях, которые делал Я среди его?

12 Итак поражу его язвою и истреблю его, и произведу от тебя [и от дома отца твоего] народ, который больше и сильнее его.

13 Но Моисей сказал Господу: Египтяне слышали, что Ты силою Твоею вывел народ сей из среды их,

14 И сказали жителям земли сей; они также слышали, что Ты, Господь, находишься среди народа сего, и что Ты, Господь, даешь видеть Себя лицем к лицу, и облако Твое стоит над ними, и Ты идешь пред ними днем в столпе облачном, а ночью в столпе огненном;

15 Если же Ты истребишь народ сей, как одного человека: то народы, которые слышали славу Твою, скажут:

16 Господь, не имея сил ввести народ сей в землю, которую Он с клятвою обещал ему, погубил его в пустыне.

17 Итак, да возвеличится сила Господня, как Ты говорил, и сказал:

18 Господь медлен на гнев, и велик в милости [и истине], прощает беззакония и преступления и [грех], но виновного не оставляет без наказания, наказывает беззаконие отцев в сынах, до третьего и четвертого рода.

19 Прости грех народу сему по великой милости Твоей так, как Ты прощал народ сей от Египта даже доселе.

20 И сказал Господь [Моисею]: прощаю по слову твоему.

21 Но жив Я, [и всегда живет Имя Мое], и славы Господней полна вся земля:

22 Все, которые видели славу Мою и знамения Мои, сделанные Мною в Египте и в пустыне, и искушали Меня уже десять раз, и не слушали гласа Моего,

23 Не увидят земли, которую Я с клятвою обещал отцам их: [только детям их, которые здесь со Мною, которые не знают, что добро, что зло, всем малолетним, ничего не смыслящим, только сим дам землю, а] все пренебрегшие Меня не увидят ее.

24 Но раба Моего Халева, за то, что в нем был иной дух и он совершенно повиновался Мне, введу в землю, в которую он ходил, и семя его получит ее в наследство.

25 Но поелику Амаликитяне и Хананеи живут на равнине, то завтра возвратитесь и идите в пустыню, к Чермному морю.

26 И говорил Господь Моисею и Аарону, и сказал:

27 Доколе буйному сему обществу роптать на Меня? ропот сынов Израилевых, которым они ропщут на Меня, Я слышу.

28 Скажи им: жив Я, говорит Господь: что говорили вы в слух Мне, то и сделаю вам.

29 В пустыне сей падут тела ваши, все вошедшие у вас в перепись, сколько вас числом, от двадцати лет и выше, которые роптали на Меня.

30 Вы не войдете в землю, на которой Я, подъемля руку Мою, клялся поселить вас, кроме Халева, сына Иефонниина, и Иисуса, сына Навина.

31 Детей ваших, о которых вы говорили, что они достанутся в добычу врагам, Я введу туда, и они узнают землю, которую вы презрели;

32 А ваши трупы падут в пустыне сей.

33 Впрочем сыны ваши будут пастушескую жизнь вести в пустыне сорок лет, и будут нести наказание за блудодейство ваше, пока не падут все тела ваши в пустыне.

34 По числу сорока дней, в которые вы обозревали землю, вы понесете наказание за грехи ваши сорок лет, год за день, дабы вы познали, что значит быть оставленным Мною.

35 Я, Иегова, говорю, и так поступлю со всем буйным сим обществом, восставшим против Меня: в пустыне сей все падут и перемрут в ней.

36 А те, которых посылал Моисей для обозрения земли, и которые, возвратившись, возмутили против него все сие общество, распуская худую молву о земле,

37 Сии распустившие худую молву о земле, умерли, быв поражены пред Господом.

38 Только Иисус, сын Навин, и Халев, сын Иефонниин, остались живы из тех мужей, которые ходили обозревать землю.

39 Когда Моисей сказал слова сии пред всеми сынами Израилевыми, тогда горько заплакал народ.

40 Встав рано поутру, пошли на вершину горы, говоря: вот, мы пойдем на то место, о котором сказал Господь, поелику мы согрешили.

41 Но Моисей сказал: для чего вы преступаете повеление Господне? Это будет безуспешно.

42 Не ходите; ибо нет среди вас Господа, чтоб не поразили вас враги ваши.

43 Ибо Амалекитяне и Хананеи там пред вами, и вы падете от меча, потому что вы отступили от Господа, и не будет с вами Господа.

44 Но они, несмотря на сие, взошли на вершину горы: ковчег же завета Господня и Моисей не выходили из стана.

45 Тогда Амалекитяне и Хананеи, живущие на горе той, сошли, били их и гнали их до Хормы [и возвратились в стан].

Numbers Chapter 14	Числа Глава 14
1 THEN all the congregation was in commotion, and lifted up their voices and cried; and the people wept that night.	1 Тогда все общество подняло вопль, и плакал народ во [всю] ту ночь.
2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron; and the whole congregation said to them, Would God we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would God that we had died in this wilderness!	2 И стали роптать на Моисея и Аарона все сыны Израилевы, и все общество сказало им: о, если бы мы умерли в земле Египетской, или умерли бы в пустыне сей!
3 Why has the LORD brought us into this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should be a prey? We were better off when we dwelt in Egypt.	3 И для чего Господь ведет нас в землю сию, чтоб мы пали от меча? Жены наши и дети наши достанутся в добычу врагам. Не лучше ли нам возвратиться в Египет?
4 And they said one to another, Let us appoint a leader, and let us return to Egypt.	4 И сказали друг другу: поставим [над собою] начальника, и возвратимся в Египет.
5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.	5 Моисей и Аарон пали на лица свои пред всем собранием общества сынов Израилевых.
6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jophaniah, who were of those who had spied out the land, rent their clothes;	6 И Иисус, сын Навин, и Халев, сын Иефонниин, из обозревавших землю, разодрали одежды свои,
7 And they said to all the congregation of the children of Israel, The land through which we passed to spy it out is an exceedingly good land.	7 И сказали всему обществу сынов Израилевых: земля, которую мы проходили для обозрения, есть земля самая лучшая.
8 If the LORD delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows indeed with milk and honey.	8 Если любит нас Господь, то введет нас в землю сию и даст нам сию землю, в которой течет молоко и мед.
9 Only do not rebel against the LORD, neither be afraid of the people of the land; for their conquest will be as easy as eating bread; their strength has left them, and the LORD is with us; fear them not.	9 Только против Господа не восставайте, и не бойтесь народа земли сей; поелику он достанется нам на съедение, защиты у них не стало; а с нами Господь, не бойтесь их,

And the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.	10 Все общество положило побить их камнями; но слава Господня явилась [в облаке] в скинии собрания всем сынам Израилевым.
11 And the LORD said to Moses, How long will this people provoke me? And how long will they not believe me, for all the signs which I have done among them?	11 И сказал Господь Моисею: доколе будет пренебрегать Меня народ сей? И доколе не будет Мне верить при всех тех знамениях, которые делал Я среди его?
12 I will smite them with pestilence, and destroy them, and I will make of you a nation which is greater and mightier than they.	12 Итак поражу его язвою и истреблю его, и произведу от тебя [и от дома отца твоего] народ, который больше и сильнее его.
13 And Moses said to the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it (for thou didst bring up this people in thy might from among them),	13 Но Моисей сказал Господу: Египтяне слышали, что Ты силою Твоею вывел народ сей из среды их,
14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land; for they have heard that thou LORD art in the midst of this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud stands over them, and that thou goest before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night.	14 И сказали жителям земли сей; они также слышали, что Ты, Господь, находишься среди народа сего, и что Ты, Господь, даешь видеть Себя лицем к лицу, и облако Твое стоит над ними, и Ты идешь пред ними днем в столпе облачном, а ночью в столпе огненном;
15 And if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations who have heard the fame of thee will say,	15 Если же Ты истребишь народ сей, как одного человека: то народы, которые слышали славу Твою, скажут:
16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.	16 Господь, не имея сил ввести народ сей в землю, которую Он с клятвою обещал ему, погубил его в пустыне.
17 And now, let thy power, O LORD, be great according as thou hast spoken, saying,	17 Итак, да возвеличится сила Господня, как Ты говорил, и сказал:
18 The LORD is longsuffering and of great mercy, and thou forgivest iniquity and transgression, by no means clearing the guilty, but visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and upon their children's children to the third and fourth generation.	18 Господь медлен на гнев, и велик в милости [и истине], прощает беззакония и преступления и [грех], но виновного не оставляет без наказания, наказывает беззаконие отцев в сынах, до третьего и четвертого рода.
19 Pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven them from Egypt even until now.	19 Прости грех народу сему по великой милости Твоей так, как Ты прощал народ сей от Египта даже доселе.
20 And the LORD said to Moses, I have forgiven them according to your word;	20 И сказал Господь [Моисею]: прощаю по слову твоему.
21 But as truly as I live, the whole earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.	21 Но жив Я, [и всегда живет Имя Мое], и славы Господней полна вся земля:
22 And yet all the men who have seen my glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness have tempted me, behold now, these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;	22 Все, которые видели славу Мою и знамения Мои, сделанные Мною в Египте и в пустыне, и искушали Меня уже десять раз, и не слушали гласа Моего,
23 Surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any one of those who provoked me see it;	23 Не увидят земли, которую Я с клятвою обещал отцам их: [только детям их, которые здесь со Мною, которые не знают, что добро, что зло, всем малолетним, ничего не смыслящим, только сим дам землю, а] все пренебрегшие Меня не увидят ее.
24 But my servant Caleb, because he has my spirit with him and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land into which he went; and his descendants shall possess it.	24 Но раба Моего Халева, за то, что в нем был иной дух и он совершенно повиновался Мне, введу в землю, в которую он ходил, и семя его получит ее в наследство.
25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the mountains.) Tomorrow turn and set out for the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.	25 Но поелику Амаликитяне и Хананеи живут на равнине, то завтра возвратитесь и идите в пустыню, к Чермному морю.
26 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,	26 И говорил Господь Моисею и Аарону, и сказал:
27 How long shall this wicked congregation murmur in my presence? I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel which they murmur in my presence.	27 Доколе буйному сему обществу роптать на Меня? ропот сынов Израилевых, которым они ропщут на Меня, Я слышу.
28 Say to them, As I live, says the LORD, as you have spoken in my presence, so will I do to you;	28 Скажи им: жив Я, говорит Господь: что говорили вы в слух Мне, то и сделаю вам.
29 Your corpses shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, because you have murmured against me.	29 В пустыне сей падут тела ваши, все вошедшие у вас в перепись, сколько вас числом, от двадцати лет и выше, которые роптали на Меня.
30 You shall not come into the land concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jophaniah, and Joshua the son of Nun.	30 Вы не войдете в землю, на которой Я, подъемля руку Мою, клялся поселить вас, кроме Халева, сына Иефонниина, и Иисуса, сына Навина.
31 But your little ones, who you said would become the prey, and your sons who today do not know good and evil, they shall enter into the land, and I will bring them there, and they shall know the land which you have despised.	31 Детей ваших, о которых вы говорили, что они достанутся в добычу врагам, Я введу туда, и они узнают землю, которую вы презрели;
32 But as for you, your corpses shall fall in this wilderness.	32 А ваши трупы падут в пустыне сей.
33 And your sons shall be shepherds forty years in this wilderness, and shall suffer for your whoredom until your corpses are consumed in this wilderness.	33 Впрочем сыны ваши будут пастушескую жизнь вести в пустыне сорок лет, и будут нести наказание за блудодейство ваше, пока не падут все тела ваши в пустыне.
34 According to the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, a year for each day, shall you suffer for your iniquities, forty years; then you shall know that it is because you have murmured before me.	34 По числу сорока дней, в которые вы обозревали землю, вы понесете наказание за грехи ваши сорок лет, год за день, дабы вы познали, что значит быть оставленным Мною.
35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it to all this evil congregation that are gathered together before me; in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.	35 Я, Иегова, говорю, и так поступлю со всем буйным сим обществом, восставшим против Меня: в пустыне сей все падут и перемрут в ней.
36 And the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned and made all the congregation murmur against him by publishing an evil report concerning the land,	36 А те, которых посылал Моисей для обозрения земли, и которые, возвратившись, возмутили против него все сие общество, распуская худую молву о земле,
37 These men who published an evil report of the land died by a sudden plague before the LORD.	37 Сии распустившие худую молву о земле, умерли, быв поражены пред Господом.
38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jophaniah, who were of the men who went to spy out the land, still lived.	38 Только Иисус, сын Навин, и Халев, сын Иефонниин, остались живы из тех мужей, которые ходили обозревать землю.
39 And Moses told these sayings to all the children of Israel; and the people mourned greatly.	39 Когда Моисей сказал слова сии пред всеми сынами Израилевыми, тогда горько заплакал народ.

41 And Moses said to them, Why now do you transgress the commandment of the LORD? Therefore you shall not succeed.	41 Но Моисей сказал: для чего вы преступаете повеление Господне? Это будет безуспешно.
42 Do not go up, for the LORD is not with you; lest you be defeated before your enemies.	42 Не ходите; ибо нет среди вас Господа, чтоб не поразили вас враги ваши.
43 For the Canaanites and the Amalekites are there before you, and you shall fall by the sword; because you are turned away from following the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.	43 Ибо Амалекитяне и Хананеи там пред вами, и вы падете от меча, потому что вы отступили от Господа, и не будет с вами Господа.
44 Yet they started to go up to the top of the mountain; but neither the ark of the covenant of the LORD nor Moses departed out of the camp.	44 Но они, несмотря на сие, взошли на вершину горы: ковчег же завета Господня и Моисей не выходили из стана.
45 Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites who dwelt in that mountain came down and smote them and pursued them as far as Hirmah.	45 Тогда Амалекитяне и Хананеи, живущие на горе той, сошли, били их и гнали их до Хормы [и возвратились в стан].
