Chapter 29

1 NOW these are the words of the letter which Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to Babylon, to the rest of the elders who were in exile and to the priests and to the false prophets and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had carried captive from Jerusalem to Babylon

2 (After Jeconiah the king and the queen and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the craftsmen and the guard had departed from Jerusalem),

3 By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, saying,

4 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, to all who are carried away captives, from Jerusalem to Babylon:

5 Build houses and live in them; and plant gardens and eat the fruit of them;

6 Take wives and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands that they may bear sons and daughters; and multiply there, and not decrease.

7 And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray to the LORD for it; for in the peace thereof shall you have peace.

8 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are among you deceive you, neither listen to your dreams which you dream.

9 For they prophesy falsely to you in my name; I have not sent them, says the LORD.

10 For thus says the LORD: After seventy years are completed at Babylon I will deliver you and perform my good word toward you in bringing you back to this country.

11 For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a good hope at the end.

12 Then you shall call upon me and pray to me.

13 And when you shall seek me with all your heart, you shall find me, says the LORD.

14 And I will bring back your exiles, and I will gather you from all the nations and from all the lands where I have driven you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back to the place from which I caused you to be carried away captive.

15 Because you have said, The LORD has raised us up prophets in Babylon;

16 Therefore, thus says the LORD concerning the king who sits on the throne of David and concerning all the people who dwell in this city and your brethren who did not go out with you into captivity;

17 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Behold, I will send upon them the sword, famine, and pestilence, and I will make them like bad figs which are so bad that they cannot be eaten.

18 And I will pursue them with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, and I will make them a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be an astonishment, a curse, a reproach, and a hissing among all the nations where I have driven them,

19 Because they did not hearken to my words, and I sent to them all my servants the prophets, warning them in advance, but they did not listen to them, says the LORD.

20 Hear therefore the word of the LORD, all you exiles who were carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;

21 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab, the son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maasiah, who prophesy lies to you: Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;

22 And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the exiles who are in Babylon; they shall say, The LORD make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

23 Because they have done wickedness in Israel and have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know and I am a witness, says the LORD.

24 And to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, you shall say,

25 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Because you have sent a letter in his name to all the people who are in Jerusalem and to Zephaniah the son of Maasiah the priest and to all the priests, saying,

26 The LORD has made you priest instead of Jehoiadah the priest, to be an officer in the house of the LORD over every man who acts foolishly and prophesies falsehood, to put him in prison and in the stocks.

27 Now, therefore, why have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who prophesies to you?

28 For he has sent to us in Babylon, saying, You shall remain there for a long time; therefore, build houses and dwell in them; and plant gardens and eat the fruit of them.

29 And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

30 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying,

31 Send to all of them who are in captivity, saying, Thus says the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you the thing which I did not send him to prophesy and has caused you to trust in a lie;

32 Therefore, thus says the LORD: Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his posterity; he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he see the good which I will do for my people, says the LORD, because he has spoken iniquity against the LORD.

1 Вот письмо, которое пророк Иеремия написал из Иерусалима к старейшинам, уцелевшим среди пленников, к священнослужителям, пророкам и ко всему народу, который был уведён Навуходоносором в плен из Иерусалима в Вавилон.

2 (Это произошло после того, как царь Иехония, царица-мать, придворные сановники и вожди Иудеи и Иерусалима, ремесленники и кузнецы были уведены из Иерусалима в плен.)

3 Он поручил доставить письмо Эласу, сыну Шафана, и Гемарии, сыну Хилкии, которых Цедекия, царь Иудеи, отправил к царю Навуходоносору в Вавилон. В письме говорилось:

4 Так говорит Вечный, Повелитель Сил, Бог Исраила, всем, кого Он отправил в плен из Иерусалима в Вавилон:

5 «Стройте дома и селитесь, разводите сады и ешьте их плоды.

6 Женитесь и рожайте сыновей и дочерей, берите жён своим сыновьям и выдавайте дочерей замуж, чтобы и у них рождались сыновья и дочери. Пусть там вас становится больше, а не меньше.

7 Желайте мира и благополучия тому городу, куда Я отправляю вас в плен. Молитесь Вечному о нём, потому что при его благополучии и вы будете благополучны».

8 Вот, что говорит Вечный, Повелитель Сил, Бог Исраила: «Не позволяйте пророкам и предсказателям, которые среди вас, обманывать вас. Не слушайте снов, которые им снятся.

9 Они пророчествуют вам Моим именем ложь. Я не посылал их», – возвещает Вечный.

10 Так говорит Вечный: «Когда пройдёт семьдесят лет в Вавилоне, Я позабочусь о вас и сдержу Своё доброе обещание вернуть вас сюда.

11 Ведь Я знаю Мои намерения о вас, – возвещает Вечный, – намерения принести вам благополучие, а не беду, даровать вам будущее и надежду.

12 Тогда вы будете призывать Меня, пойдёте и помолитесь Мне, и Я услышу вас.

13 Вы будете искать Меня и найдёте, если будете искать всем сердцем.

14 Вы найдёте Меня, – возвещает Вечный, – и Я восстановлю вас. Я соберу вас из всех народов и земель, куда изгнал вас, – возвещает Вечный, – и верну вас туда, откуда отправил вас в плен».

15 Но поскольку вы говорите: «Вечный дал нам пророков и в Вавилоне»,

16 то так говорит Вечный о царе, что сидит на престоле Давуда, и обо всём народе, который остался в этом городе, о ваших соплеменниках, которые не пошли вместе с вами в плен –

17 так говорит Вечный, Повелитель Сил: «Я пошлю на них меч, голод и мор и сделаю их такими, как гнилой инжир, который так плох, что его нельзя есть.

18 Я буду преследовать их мечом, голодом и мором, и станут они ненавистны всем царствам на земле, станут предметом проклятий и ужаса, издевательств и презрения у всех народов, к которым Я их изгоню.

19 Ведь они не слушались Моих слов, – возвещает Вечный, – которые Я говорил им снова и снова через Моих рабов пророков», – возвещает Вечный.

20 А сейчас слушайте слово Вечного, все изгнанники, которых Я выслал из Иерусалима в Вавилон.

21 Так говорит Вечный, Повелитель Сил, Бог Исраила, об Ахаве, сыне Колаи, и Цедекии, сыне Маасеи, которые Моим именем пророчествуют вам ложь: «Я отдаю их во власть Навуходоносора, царя Вавилона, а он предаст их смерти у вас на глазах.

22 От них среди всех изгнанников из Иудеи, которые находятся в Вавилоне, поведётся проклятие: „Пусть Вечный поступит с тобой так же, как с Цедекией и Ахавом, которых царь Вавилона сжёг на костре“.

23 Ведь они наделали в Исраиле гнусностей: они спали с чужими жёнами и говорили Моим именем ложь, то, что Я им не повелевал. Я знаю это, и Я этому свидетель», – возвещает Вечный.

24 – Скажи нехеламитянину Шемае:

25 Так говорит Вечный, Повелитель Сил, Бог Исраила: «Ты посылал письма от своего имени ко всему народу в Иерусалиме, к священнослужителю Софонии, сыну Маасеи, и ко всем остальным священнослужителям. Ты написал Софонии:

26 Вечный сделал тебя священнослужителем вместо Иодая, чтобы при доме Вечного были смотрители и чтобы каждого, кто выдаёт себя за пророка, забивали в колодки и надевали ему на шею железный хомут.

27 Что же ты не остановишь Иеремию из Анатота, который выдаёт себя за пророка?

28 Он послал к нам в Вавилон сказать: „Это надолго. Стройте дома и селитесь, разводите сады и ешьте их плоды“».

29 Но священнослужитель Софония прочитал это письмо пророку Иеремии.

30 И сказал Вечный Иеремии:

31 – Отправь послание всем изгнанникам:
Так говорит Вечный о нехеламитянине Шемае: «За то, что Шемая пророчествовал вам, хотя Я его не посылал, и заставил вас поверить лжи,

32 так говорит Вечный: Я непременно накажу нехеламитянина Шемаю и его потомков. После него в этом народе никого не останется, и он не увидит того добра, которое Я сделаю для Моего народа, – возвещает Вечный, – за то, что он призывал к отступничеству от Вечного».

1 NOW these are the words of the letter which Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to Babylon, to the rest of the elders who were in exile and to the priests and to the false prophets and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had carried captive from Jerusalem to Babylon

4 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, to all who are carried away captives, from Jerusalem to Babylon:

4 Так говорит Вечный, Повелитель Сил, Бог Исраила, всем, кого Он отправил в плен из Иерусалима в Вавилон:

5 Build houses and live in them; and plant gardens and eat the fruit of them;

5 «Стройте дома и селитесь, разводите сады и ешьте их плоды.

6 Take wives and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands that they may bear sons and daughters; and multiply there, and not decrease.

6 Женитесь и рожайте сыновей и дочерей, берите жён своим сыновьям и выдавайте дочерей замуж, чтобы и у них рождались сыновья и дочери. Пусть там вас становится больше, а не меньше.

7 And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray to the LORD for it; for in the peace thereof shall you have peace.

7 Желайте мира и благополучия тому городу, куда Я отправляю вас в плен. Молитесь Вечному о нём, потому что при его благополучии и вы будете благополучны».

8 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are among you deceive you, neither listen to your dreams which you dream.

8 Вот, что говорит Вечный, Повелитель Сил, Бог Исраила: «Не позволяйте пророкам и предсказателям, которые среди вас, обманывать вас. Не слушайте снов, которые им снятся.

9 For they prophesy falsely to you in my name; I have not sent them, says the LORD.

9 Они пророчествуют вам Моим именем ложь. Я не посылал их», – возвещает Вечный.

10 For thus says the LORD: After seventy years are completed at Babylon I will deliver you and perform my good word toward you in bringing you back to this country.

10 Так говорит Вечный: «Когда пройдёт семьдесят лет в Вавилоне, Я позабочусь о вас и сдержу Своё доброе обещание вернуть вас сюда.

11 For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a good hope at the end.

11 Ведь Я знаю Мои намерения о вас, – возвещает Вечный, – намерения принести вам благополучие, а не беду, даровать вам будущее и надежду.

12 Then you shall call upon me and pray to me.

12 Тогда вы будете призывать Меня, пойдёте и помолитесь Мне, и Я услышу вас.

13 And when you shall seek me with all your heart, you shall find me, says the LORD.

13 Вы будете искать Меня и найдёте, если будете искать всем сердцем.

14 And I will bring back your exiles, and I will gather you from all the nations and from all the lands where I have driven you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back to the place from which I caused you to be carried away captive.

14 Вы найдёте Меня, – возвещает Вечный, – и Я восстановлю вас. Я соберу вас из всех народов и земель, куда изгнал вас, – возвещает Вечный, – и верну вас туда, откуда отправил вас в плен».

15 Because you have said, The LORD has raised us up prophets in Babylon;

15 Но поскольку вы говорите: «Вечный дал нам пророков и в Вавилоне»,

16 Therefore, thus says the LORD concerning the king who sits on the throne of David and concerning all the people who dwell in this city and your brethren who did not go out with you into captivity;

16 то так говорит Вечный о царе, что сидит на престоле Давуда, и обо всём народе, который остался в этом городе, о ваших соплеменниках, которые не пошли вместе с вами в плен –

18 Я буду преследовать их мечом, голодом и мором, и станут они ненавистны всем царствам на земле, станут предметом проклятий и ужаса, издевательств и презрения у всех народов, к которым Я их изгоню.

19 Because they did not hearken to my words, and I sent to them all my servants the prophets, warning them in advance, but they did not listen to them, says the LORD.

19 Ведь они не слушались Моих слов, – возвещает Вечный, – которые Я говорил им снова и снова через Моих рабов пророков», – возвещает Вечный.

20 Hear therefore the word of the LORD, all you exiles who were carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;

20 А сейчас слушайте слово Вечного, все изгнанники, которых Я выслал из Иерусалима в Вавилон.

21 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab, the son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maasiah, who prophesy lies to you: Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;

22 And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the exiles who are in Babylon; they shall say, The LORD make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

22 От них среди всех изгнанников из Иудеи, которые находятся в Вавилоне, поведётся проклятие: „Пусть Вечный поступит с тобой так же, как с Цедекией и Ахавом, которых царь Вавилона сжёг на костре“.

23 Because they have done wickedness in Israel and have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know and I am a witness, says the LORD.

23 Ведь они наделали в Исраиле гнусностей: они спали с чужими жёнами и говорили Моим именем ложь, то, что Я им не повелевал. Я знаю это, и Я этому свидетель», – возвещает Вечный.

24 And to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, you shall say,

24 – Скажи нехеламитянину Шемае:

25 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Because you have sent a letter in his name to all the people who are in Jerusalem and to Zephaniah the son of Maasiah the priest and to all the priests, saying,

25 Так говорит Вечный, Повелитель Сил, Бог Исраила: «Ты посылал письма от своего имени ко всему народу в Иерусалиме, к священнослужителю Софонии, сыну Маасеи, и ко всем остальным священнослужителям. Ты написал Софонии:

26 The LORD has made you priest instead of Jehoiadah the priest, to be an officer in the house of the LORD over every man who acts foolishly and prophesies falsehood, to put him in prison and in the stocks.

26 Вечный сделал тебя священнослужителем вместо Иодая, чтобы при доме Вечного были смотрители и чтобы каждого, кто выдаёт себя за пророка, забивали в колодки и надевали ему на шею железный хомут.

27 Now, therefore, why have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who prophesies to you?

27 Что же ты не остановишь Иеремию из Анатота, который выдаёт себя за пророка?

28 For he has sent to us in Babylon, saying, You shall remain there for a long time; therefore, build houses and dwell in them; and plant gardens and eat the fruit of them.

28 Он послал к нам в Вавилон сказать: „Это надолго. Стройте дома и селитесь, разводите сады и ешьте их плоды“».

29 And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

29 Но священнослужитель Софония прочитал это письмо пророку Иеремии.

30 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying,

30 И сказал Вечный Иеремии:

31 Send to all of them who are in captivity, saying, Thus says the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you the thing which I did not send him to prophesy and has caused you to trust in a lie;

31 – Отправь послание всем изгнанникам:
Так говорит Вечный о нехеламитянине Шемае: «За то, что Шемая пророчествовал вам, хотя Я его не посылал, и заставил вас поверить лжи,

32 Therefore, thus says the LORD: Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his posterity; he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he see the good which I will do for my people, says the LORD, because he has spoken iniquity against the LORD.

32 так говорит Вечный: Я непременно накажу нехеламитянина Шемаю и его потомков. После него в этом народе никого не останется, и он не увидит того добра, которое Я сделаю для Моего народа, – возвещает Вечный, – за то, что он призывал к отступничеству от Вечного».
