Chapter 16

1 AND they journeyed from Elim, and the whole congregation of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Seen, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departure from the land of Egypt.

2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness;

3 And the children of Israel said to them, Would that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, and when we did eat bread to the full; for you have brought us forth into this wilderness to destroy the whole assembly of Israel with hunger.

4 Then the LORD said to Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather sufficient food, day by day, for I will prove them, whether they will keep my laws or not.

5 And it shall come to pass that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.

6 And Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, At evening, then you shall know that the LORD has brought you out from the land of Egypt;

7 And in the morning, then you shall see the glory of the LORD; for your murmuring has been heard before the LORD; but as for us, what are we that you should murmur against us?

8 And Moses said, When the LORD shall give you in the evening meat to eat and in the morning bread to the full, then the LORD has heard your murmuring which you murmured against him; but as for us, what are we? Your murmurings are not against us but against the LORD.

9 And Moses said to Aaron, Say to all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD; for he has heard your murmurings.

10 And it came to pass, as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Israel, they turned their faces toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.

11 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying.

12 I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel; say to them, At evening you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am the LORD your God.

13 And it came to pass that at evening the quails came up and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew lay round about the camp.

14 And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a thin round crust, like the hoar frost on the ground.

15 And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, Manna-ho? (What is it?) For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat.

16 This is the thing which the LORD has commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; each man shall take it for those in his tent.

17 And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.

18 And when they measured it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.

19 And Moses said to them, Let no man leave of it till the morning.

20 Notwithstanding they listened not to Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms and stank; and Moses was angry with them.

21 And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating; and when the sun grew hot, it melted.

22 And it came to pass that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one person; and all the elders of the congregation came and told Moses.

23 Moses said to them, This is what the LORD has said, Tomorrow is a day of holy rest, a sabbath to the LORD; bake that which you will bake today, and cook what you will cook; and that which is left over, keep it cold for yourselves until the morning.

24 So they left over some of it till the morning, as Moses had commanded them; and it did not stink, neither was there any worm in it.

25 And Moses said to them, Eat it today; for today is a sabbath to the LORD; today you shall not find it in the field.

26 Six days you shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.

27 And it came to pass that there went out some of the people on the seventh day to gather, and they found none.

28 And the LORD said to Moses, How long will you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws?

29 See, for the LORD has given you the sabbath, therefore he gives you on the sixth day bread for two days; abide every man in his place; let no man go out of his house on the seventh day.

30 So the people rested on the seventh day.

31 And the children of Israel called the name thereof manna; and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like honeycomb.

32 And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD has commanded, Fill an omer to be kept for your generations, that they may see the bread with which I have fed you in the wilderness when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.

33 And Moses said to Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.

34 As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up as a testimony, to be kept.

35 And the children of Israel did eat manna for forty years until they came to an inhabited land; they did eat manna until they reached the border of the land of Canaan.

36 Now an omer is the tenth of an ephah.

2 Здесь, в пустыне, снова возроптали сыны Израилевы на Моисея и Аарона.

3 «Уж лучше бы умерли мы еще в Египте, пали бы от руки ГОСПОДА, — говорили они, — ведь там мы сидели у котлов с мясом, да и хлеба-то у нас было вдоволь! А вы завели нас в пустыню, чтобы всё это множество народа голодом заморить!»

4 Тогда ГОСПОДЬ сказал Моисею: «Дам Я хлеб вам! Пошлю его, как дождь с неба! Пусть выходит народ ежедневно в поле и собирает всякий раз, сколько нужно на день, — это послужит испытанием для народа: будет ли он послушен указаниям Моим или нет.

5 А когда в шестой день станут готовить из того, что принесли, увидят, что пищи у них вдвое больше, чем в другие дни собирали они».

6 И вот Моисей и Аарон сказали всем сынам Израилевым: «Этим вечером уже станет вам ясно, что это ГОСПОДЬ вывел вас из Египта.

7 Когда же придет утро, вы увидите славу и могущество Его. Да, это Он услышал ваш ропот против Него, а не против нас. Кто мы такие, чтобы на нас роптать?»

8 «Сегодня же, — продолжал Моисей, — сами во всем убедитесь, когда в ответ на жалобы ваши ГОСПОДЬ даст вам вечером мяса, а утром — хлеба вдоволь. Ведь на Него вы роптали. А мы — кто мы такие? Ропот ваш не против нас, а против Самого ГОСПОДА».

9 После того Моисей велел Аарону сказать всей общине израильской: «Предстаньте пред ГОСПОДОМ — услышал Он ропот ваш!»

10 И как только сказал Аарон это всем израильтянам, взгляды их обратились к пустыне, и там явилась им в облаке слава ГОСПОДНЯ.

11 А ГОСПОДЬ продолжал говорить с Моисеем:

12 «Услышал Я ропот израильтян. Ты вот что скажи им: „Вечером мясо будете есть, а утром насытитесь хлебом, дабы знали вы, что Я — ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш“».

13 В тот же вечер налетели перепела, и весь стан оказался усеян ими. А утром вокруг стана выпала роса.

14 Но когда она исчезла, оказалось — вся земля в пустыне усыпана чем-то очень мелким и твердым, мелким, как легкий иней на траве.

15 Дивясь тому, израильтяне спрашивали друг друга: «Что это?», они ведь не знали, что это такое. Тогда Моисей сказал им: «Это и есть хлеб, который дал вам в пищу ГОСПОДЬ.

16 И вот что Он повелел: „Собирайте столько, сколько нужно каждому — по омеру на человека, собирайте на каждого в шатре своем“».

17 Так и сделали все сыны Израилевы, собрали кто сколько: одни больше, а другие меньше;

18 но когда стали мерить омером, то у тех, кто собрал больше, не вышло излишка, а у тех, которые меньше собрали, недостатка не было. У каждого оказалось как раз столько, сколько ему было нужно.

19 «Ничего из собранного до утра не оставляйте», — сказал им тогда Моисей.

20 Иные, однако, не послушались его и отложили часть ими собранного до следующего утра. Но в том, что они оставили, завелись черви, и неприятный запах пошел от него. Разгневался Моисей на тех, кто ослушался его.

21 И собирали израильтяне по утрам манну, каждый собирал столько, сколько ему было нужно, а когда начинало палить солнце, всё, что осталось несобранным, таяло под его лучами.

22 В пятницу же, в шестой день недели, собрал каждый хлеба вдвое больше, по два омера на человека. И когда главы колен и родов пришли к Моисею и рассказали ему об этом,

23 он ответил: «Это как раз то, о чем говорил вам ГОСПОДЬ: завтра — день священного покоя, святая суббота ГОСПОДНЯ. Всё, что вам нужно испечь, — испеките сегодня, и что нужно сварить — сегодня же сварите, а что останется — отложите и сохраните для себя на завтра».

24 Как и велел Моисей, израильтяне отложили оставшееся в пятницу до утра — и оно не испортилось, и червей в нем не завелось.

25 И тогда Моисей сказал: «Сегодня ешьте то, что приготовили вчера, ибо сегодня суббота ГОСПОДНЯ, и на поле вы уже ничего не найдете.

26 Шесть дней вы собирали манну, в седьмой же день, в субботу, ее там не будет».

27 Но некоторые все же вышли собирать и в седьмой день, однако ничего не нашли.

28 И сказал тогда ГОСПОДЬ израильтянам через Моисея: «Долго ли еще будете отказываться исполнять Мои заповеди и указания?

29 Разве не видите, что Я, ГОСПОДЬ, установил для вас субботу, а потому в шестой день и пищу даю вам на два дня. В седьмой день оставайтесь в жилищах ваших, не покидайте их».

30 Народ внял словам этим и в седьмой день пребывал в покое.

31 Вот так и появилась у израильтян пища, которую назвали они манной («что это»). Она была белого цвета и походила на семя кориандра, а вкус у нее был как у лепешки с медом.

32 И сказал Моисей: «Вот что повелел ГОСПОДЬ: „Наберите один омер манны, и пусть хранится она для потомков ваших, дабы видели они пищу, которой насыщал Я вас в пустыне, когда вывел из Египта“».

33 Поэтому Моисей велел Аарону: «Возьми сосуд, насыпь в него омер манны и поставь его перед ГОСПОДОМ, чтобы сохранить ее во свидетельство для потомков ваших».

36 (Омер — это десятая часть эфы.) [34] Аарон сделал всё, как ГОСПОДЬ повелел Моисею: он поставил сосуд перед ковчегом со скрижалями Закона. Там он и хранился. [35] И ели сыны Израилевы манну все сорок лет, пока не пришли в землю, где смогли поселиться. Питались они этой манной до тех пор, пока не достигли Ханаана.

2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness;	2 Здесь, в пустыне, снова возроптали сыны Израилевы на Моисея и Аарона.
3 And the children of Israel said to them, Would that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, and when we did eat bread to the full; for you have brought us forth into this wilderness to destroy the whole assembly of Israel with hunger.	3 «Уж лучше бы умерли мы еще в Египте, пали бы от руки ГОСПОДА, — говорили они, — ведь там мы сидели у котлов с мясом, да и хлеба-то у нас было вдоволь! А вы завели нас в пустыню, чтобы всё это множество народа голодом заморить!»
4 Then the LORD said to Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather sufficient food, day by day, for I will prove them, whether they will keep my laws or not.	4 Тогда ГОСПОДЬ сказал Моисею: «Дам Я хлеб вам! Пошлю его, как дождь с неба! Пусть выходит народ ежедневно в поле и собирает всякий раз, сколько нужно на день, — это послужит испытанием для народа: будет ли он послушен указаниям Моим или нет.
5 And it shall come to pass that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.	5 А когда в шестой день станут готовить из того, что принесли, увидят, что пищи у них вдвое больше, чем в другие дни собирали они».
6 And Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, At evening, then you shall know that the LORD has brought you out from the land of Egypt;	6 И вот Моисей и Аарон сказали всем сынам Израилевым: «Этим вечером уже станет вам ясно, что это ГОСПОДЬ вывел вас из Египта.
7 And in the morning, then you shall see the glory of the LORD; for your murmuring has been heard before the LORD; but as for us, what are we that you should murmur against us?	7 Когда же придет утро, вы увидите славу и могущество Его. Да, это Он услышал ваш ропот против Него, а не против нас. Кто мы такие, чтобы на нас роптать?»
8 And Moses said, When the LORD shall give you in the evening meat to eat and in the morning bread to the full, then the LORD has heard your murmuring which you murmured against him; but as for us, what are we? Your murmurings are not against us but against the LORD.	8 «Сегодня же, — продолжал Моисей, — сами во всем убедитесь, когда в ответ на жалобы ваши ГОСПОДЬ даст вам вечером мяса, а утром — хлеба вдоволь. Ведь на Него вы роптали. А мы — кто мы такие? Ропот ваш не против нас, а против Самого ГОСПОДА».
9 And Moses said to Aaron, Say to all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD; for he has heard your murmurings.	9 После того Моисей велел Аарону сказать всей общине израильской: «Предстаньте пред ГОСПОДОМ — услышал Он ропот ваш!»
10 And it came to pass, as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Israel, they turned their faces toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.	10 И как только сказал Аарон это всем израильтянам, взгляды их обратились к пустыне, и там явилась им в облаке слава ГОСПОДНЯ.
11 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying.	11 А ГОСПОДЬ продолжал говорить с Моисеем:
12 I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel; say to them, At evening you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am the LORD your God.	12 «Услышал Я ропот израильтян. Ты вот что скажи им: „Вечером мясо будете есть, а утром насытитесь хлебом, дабы знали вы, что Я — ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш“».
13 And it came to pass that at evening the quails came up and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew lay round about the camp.	13 В тот же вечер налетели перепела, и весь стан оказался усеян ими. А утром вокруг стана выпала роса.
14 And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a thin round crust, like the hoar frost on the ground.	14 Но когда она исчезла, оказалось — вся земля в пустыне усыпана чем-то очень мелким и твердым, мелким, как легкий иней на траве.
15 And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, Manna-ho? (What is it?) For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat.	15 Дивясь тому, израильтяне спрашивали друг друга: «Что это?», они ведь не знали, что это такое. Тогда Моисей сказал им: «Это и есть хлеб, который дал вам в пищу ГОСПОДЬ.
16 This is the thing which the LORD has commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; each man shall take it for those in his tent.	16 И вот что Он повелел: „Собирайте столько, сколько нужно каждому — по омеру на человека, собирайте на каждого в шатре своем“».
17 And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.	17 Так и сделали все сыны Израилевы, собрали кто сколько: одни больше, а другие меньше;
18 And when they measured it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.	18 но когда стали мерить омером, то у тех, кто собрал больше, не вышло излишка, а у тех, которые меньше собрали, недостатка не было. У каждого оказалось как раз столько, сколько ему было нужно.
19 And Moses said to them, Let no man leave of it till the morning.	19 «Ничего из собранного до утра не оставляйте», — сказал им тогда Моисей.
20 Notwithstanding they listened not to Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms and stank; and Moses was angry with them.	20 Иные, однако, не послушались его и отложили часть ими собранного до следующего утра. Но в том, что они оставили, завелись черви, и неприятный запах пошел от него. Разгневался Моисей на тех, кто ослушался его.
21 And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating; and when the sun grew hot, it melted.	21 И собирали израильтяне по утрам манну, каждый собирал столько, сколько ему было нужно, а когда начинало палить солнце, всё, что осталось несобранным, таяло под его лучами.
22 And it came to pass that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one person; and all the elders of the congregation came and told Moses.	22 В пятницу же, в шестой день недели, собрал каждый хлеба вдвое больше, по два омера на человека. И когда главы колен и родов пришли к Моисею и рассказали ему об этом,
23 Moses said to them, This is what the LORD has said, Tomorrow is a day of holy rest, a sabbath to the LORD; bake that which you will bake today, and cook what you will cook; and that which is left over, keep it cold for yourselves until the morning.	23 он ответил: «Это как раз то, о чем говорил вам ГОСПОДЬ: завтра — день священного покоя, святая суббота ГОСПОДНЯ. Всё, что вам нужно испечь, — испеките сегодня, и что нужно сварить — сегодня же сварите, а что останется — отложите и сохраните для себя на завтра».
24 So they left over some of it till the morning, as Moses had commanded them; and it did not stink, neither was there any worm in it.	24 Как и велел Моисей, израильтяне отложили оставшееся в пятницу до утра — и оно не испортилось, и червей в нем не завелось.
25 And Moses said to them, Eat it today; for today is a sabbath to the LORD; today you shall not find it in the field.	25 И тогда Моисей сказал: «Сегодня ешьте то, что приготовили вчера, ибо сегодня суббота ГОСПОДНЯ, и на поле вы уже ничего не найдете.
26 Six days you shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.	26 Шесть дней вы собирали манну, в седьмой же день, в субботу, ее там не будет».
27 And it came to pass that there went out some of the people on the seventh day to gather, and they found none.	27 Но некоторые все же вышли собирать и в седьмой день, однако ничего не нашли.
28 And the LORD said to Moses, How long will you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws?	28 И сказал тогда ГОСПОДЬ израильтянам через Моисея: «Долго ли еще будете отказываться исполнять Мои заповеди и указания?
29 See, for the LORD has given you the sabbath, therefore he gives you on the sixth day bread for two days; abide every man in his place; let no man go out of his house on the seventh day.	29 Разве не видите, что Я, ГОСПОДЬ, установил для вас субботу, а потому в шестой день и пищу даю вам на два дня. В седьмой день оставайтесь в жилищах ваших, не покидайте их».
30 So the people rested on the seventh day.	30 Народ внял словам этим и в седьмой день пребывал в покое.

33 And Moses said to Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.	33 Поэтому Моисей велел Аарону: «Возьми сосуд, насыпь в него омер манны и поставь его перед ГОСПОДОМ, чтобы сохранить ее во свидетельство для потомков ваших».
34 As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up as a testimony, to be kept.	34
35 And the children of Israel did eat manna for forty years until they came to an inhabited land; they did eat manna until they reached the border of the land of Canaan.	35
36 Now an omer is the tenth of an ephah.	36 (Омер — это десятая часть эфы.) [34] Аарон сделал всё, как ГОСПОДЬ повелел Моисею: он поставил сосуд перед ковчегом со скрижалями Закона. Там он и хранился. [35] И ели сыны Израилевы манну все сорок лет, пока не пришли в землю, где смогли поселиться. Питались они этой манной до тех пор, пока не достигли Ханаана.
