Chapter 14

1 And all3605 the congregation5712 lifted5375 up their voice,6963 and cried;5414 and the people5971 wept1058 that night.3915

2 And all3605 the children1121 of Israel3478 murmured3885 against5921 Moses4872 and against5921 Aaron:175 and the whole3605 congregation5712 said559 to them, Would3863 God that we had died4191 in the land776 of Egypt!4714 or would3863 God we had died4191 in this2088 wilderness!4057

3 And why4100 has the LORD3068 brought935 us to this2063 land,776 to fall5307 by the sword,2719 that our wives802 and our children2945 should be a prey?957 were it not better2896 for us to return7725 into Egypt?4714

4 And they said559 one376 to another,251 Let us make5414 a captain,7218 and let us return7725 into Egypt.4714

5 Then Moses4872 and Aaron175 fell5307 on5921 their faces6440 before6440 all3605 the assembly6951 of the congregation5712 of the children1121 of Israel.3478

6 And Joshua3091 the son1121 of Nun,5126 and Caleb3612 the son1121 of Jephunneh,3312 which were of them that searched8446 the land,776 rent7167 their clothes:899

7 And they spoke559 to all3605 the company5712 of the children1121 of Israel,3478 saying,559 The land,776 which834 we passed5674 through to search8446 it, is an exceeding3966 good2896 land.776

8 If518 the LORD3068 delight2654 in us, then he will bring935 us into413 this2063 land,776 and give5414 it us; a land776 which834 flows2100 with milk2461 and honey.1706

9 Only389 rebel4775 not you against the LORD,3068 neither408 fear3372 you the people5971 of the land;776 for they are bread3899 for us: their defense6738 is departed5493 from them, and the LORD3068 is with us: fear3372 them not.

10 But all3605 the congregation5712 bade559 stone7275 them with stones.68 And the glory3519 of the LORD3068 appeared7200 in the tabernacle168 of the congregation4150 before413 all3605 the children1121 of Israel.3478

11 And the LORD3068 said559 to Moses,4872 How5704 long5704 will this2088 people5971 provoke5006 me? and how5704 long5704 will it be ere3808 they believe539 me, for all3605 the signs226 which834 I have showed6213 among7130 them?

12 I will smite5221 them with the pestilence,1698 and disinherit3423 them, and will make6213 of you a greater1419 nation1471 and mightier6099 than they.

13 And Moses4872 said559 to the LORD,3068 Then the Egyptians4714 shall hear8085 it, (for you brought5927 up this2088 people5971 in your might3581 from among7130 them;)

14 And they will tell559 it to the inhabitants3427 of this2063 land:776 for they have heard8085 that you LORD3068 are among7130 this2088 people,5971 that you LORD3068 are seen7200 face5869 to face,5869 and that your cloud6051 stands5975 over5921 them, and that you go1980 before6440 them, by day3119 time in a pillar5982 of a cloud,6051 and in a pillar5982 of fire784 by night.3915

15 Now if you shall kill4191 all this2088 people5971 as one259 man,376 then the nations1471 which834 have heard8085 the fame8088 of you will speak,559 saying,559

16 Because1115 the LORD3068 was not able3201 to bring935 this2088 people5971 into413 the land776 which834 he swore7650 to them, therefore he has slain7819 them in the wilderness.4057

17 And now,6258 I beseech4994 you, let the power3581 of my LORD136 be great,1431 according as you have spoken,1696 saying,559

18 The LORD3068 is long-suffering,750 639 and of great7227 mercy,2617 forgiving5375 iniquity5771 and transgression,6588 and by no3808 means clearing5352 the guilty, visiting6485 the iniquity5771 of the fathers1 on the children1121 to the third8029 and fourth7256 generation.

19 Pardon,5545 I beseech4994 you, the iniquity5771 of this2088 people5971 according to the greatness1433 of your mercy,2617 and as you have forgiven5375 this2088 people,5971 from Egypt4714 even until5704 now.2008

20 And the LORD3068 said,559 I have pardoned5545 according to your word:1697

21 But as truly199 as I live,2416 all3605 the earth776 shall be filled4390 with the glory3519 of the LORD.3068

22 Because3588 all3605 those582 men582 which have seen7200 my glory,3519 and my miracles,226 which834 I did6213 in Egypt4714 and in the wilderness,4057 and have tempted5254 me now2088 these2088 ten6235 times, and have not listened8085 to my voice;6963

23 Surely518 they shall not see7200 the land776 which I swore7650 to their fathers,1 neither3808 shall any3605 of them that provoked5006 me see7200 it:

24 But my servant5650 Caleb,3612 because6118 he had1961 another312 spirit7307 with him, and has followed310 me fully,4392 him will I bring935 into413 the land776 into where824 8432 he went;935 and his seed2233 shall possess3423 it.

25 (Now the Amalekites6003 and the Canaanites3669 dwelled3427 in the valley.6010) Tomorrow4279 turn6437 you, and get5265 you into the wilderness4057 by the way1870 of the Red5488 sea.3220

26 And the LORD3068 spoke1696 to Moses4872 and to Aaron,175 saying,559

27 How5704 long5704 shall I bear with this2063 evil7451 congregation,5712 which834 murmur3885 against5921 me? I have heard8085 the murmurings8519 of the children1121 of Israel,3478 which834 they murmur3885 against5921 me.

28 Say559 to them, As truly as I live,2416 said559 the LORD,3068 as you have spoken1696 in my ears,241 so3651 will I do6213 to you:

29 Your carcasses6297 shall fall5307 in this2088 wilderness;4057 and all3605 that were numbered6485 of you, according to your whole3605 number,4557 from twenty6242 years8141 old1121 and upward 4605which834 have murmured3885 against5921 me.

30 Doubtless518 you shall not come935 into413 the land,776 concerning which834 I swore5375 to make you dwell7931 therein, save3588 518 Caleb3612 the son1121 of Jephunneh,3312 and Joshua3091 the son1121 of Nun.5126

31 But your little2945 ones, which you said559 should be a prey,957 them will I bring935 in, and they shall know3045 the land776 which834 you have despised.3988

32 But as for you, your carcasses,6297 they shall fall5307 in this2088 wilderness.4057

33 And your children1121 shall wander7462 in the wilderness4057 forty705 years,8141 and bear5375 your prostitutions,2184 until5704 your carcasses6297 be wasted8552 in the wilderness.4057

34 After the number4557 of the days3117 in which834 you searched8446 the land,776 even forty705 days,3117 each day3117 for a year,8141 shall you bear5375 your iniquities,5771 even forty705 years,8141 and you shall know3045 my breach8569 of promise.748

35 I the LORD3068 have said,1696 I will surely518 do6213 it to all3605 this2063 evil7451 congregation,5712 that are gathered3259 together against5921 me: in this2088 wilderness4057 they shall be consumed,8552 and there8033 they shall die.4191

36 And the men,582 which834 Moses4872 sent7971 to search8446 the land,776 who returned,7725 and made all3605 the congregation5712 to murmur3885 against5921 him, by bringing3318 up a slander1681 on the land,776

37 Even those582 men582 that did bring3318 up the evil7451 report1681 on the land,776 died4191 by the plague4046 before6440 the LORD.3068

38 But Joshua3091 the son1121 of Nun,5126 and Caleb3612 the son1121 of Jephunneh,3312 which were of the men582 that went1980 to search8446 the land,776 lived2421 still.

39 And Moses4872 told1696 these428 sayings1697 to all3605 the children1121 of Israel:3478 and the people5971 mourned56 greatly.3966

40 And they rose7925 up early7925 in the morning,1242 and got5927 them up into413 the top7218 of the mountain,2022 saying,559 See,2009 we be here, and will go5927 up to the place4725 which834 the LORD3068 has promised:559 for we have sinned.2398

41 And Moses4872 said,559 Why4100 now2088 do you transgress5674 the commandment6310 of the LORD?3068 but it shall not prosper.6743

42 Go5927 not up, for the LORD3068 is not among7130 you; that you be not smitten5062 before6440 your enemies.341

43 For the Amalekites6003 and the Canaanites3669 are there8033 before6440 you, and you shall fall5307 by the sword:2719 because3588 you are turned7725 away310 from the LORD,3068 therefore the LORD3068 will not be with you.

44 But they presumed6075 to go5927 up to the hill2022 top:7218 nevertheless the ark727 of the covenant1285 of the LORD,3068 and Moses,4872 departed4185 not out of the camp.4264

45 Then the Amalekites6003 came3381 down,3381 and the Canaanites3669 which dwelled3427 in that hill,2022 and smote5221 them, and discomfited3807 them, even to Hormah.2767

Chapter 14

1 THEN all the congregation was in commotion, and lifted up their voices and cried; and the people wept that night.

2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron; and the whole congregation said to them, Would God we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would God that we had died in this wilderness!

3 Why has the LORD brought us into this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should be a prey? We were better off when we dwelt in Egypt.

4 And they said one to another, Let us appoint a leader, and let us return to Egypt.

5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jophaniah, who were of those who had spied out the land, rent their clothes;

7 And they said to all the congregation of the children of Israel, The land through which we passed to spy it out is an exceedingly good land.

8 If the LORD delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows indeed with milk and honey.

9 Only do not rebel against the LORD, neither be afraid of the people of the land; for their conquest will be as easy as eating bread; their strength has left them, and the LORD is with us; fear them not.

10 But the whole congregation said to stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.

11 And the LORD said to Moses, How long will this people provoke me? And how long will they not believe me, for all the signs which I have done among them?

12 I will smite them with pestilence, and destroy them, and I will make of you a nation which is greater and mightier than they.

13 And Moses said to the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it (for thou didst bring up this people in thy might from among them),

14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land; for they have heard that thou LORD art in the midst of this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud stands over them, and that thou goest before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night.

15 And if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations who have heard the fame of thee will say,

16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.

17 And now, let thy power, O LORD, be great according as thou hast spoken, saying,

18 The LORD is longsuffering and of great mercy, and thou forgivest iniquity and transgression, by no means clearing the guilty, but visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and upon their children's children to the third and fourth generation.

19 Pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven them from Egypt even until now.

20 And the LORD said to Moses, I have forgiven them according to your word;

21 But as truly as I live, the whole earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.

22 And yet all the men who have seen my glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness have tempted me, behold now, these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

23 Surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any one of those who provoked me see it;

24 But my servant Caleb, because he has my spirit with him and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land into which he went; and his descendants shall possess it.

25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the mountains.) Tomorrow turn and set out for the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.

26 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

27 How long shall this wicked congregation murmur in my presence? I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel which they murmur in my presence.

28 Say to them, As I live, says the LORD, as you have spoken in my presence, so will I do to you;

29 Your corpses shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, because you have murmured against me.

30 You shall not come into the land concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jophaniah, and Joshua the son of Nun.

31 But your little ones, who you said would become the prey, and your sons who today do not know good and evil, they shall enter into the land, and I will bring them there, and they shall know the land which you have despised.

32 But as for you, your corpses shall fall in this wilderness.

33 And your sons shall be shepherds forty years in this wilderness, and shall suffer for your whoredom until your corpses are consumed in this wilderness.

34 According to the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, a year for each day, shall you suffer for your iniquities, forty years; then you shall know that it is because you have murmured before me.

35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it to all this evil congregation that are gathered together before me; in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

36 And the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned and made all the congregation murmur against him by publishing an evil report concerning the land,

37 These men who published an evil report of the land died by a sudden plague before the LORD.

38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jophaniah, who were of the men who went to spy out the land, still lived.

39 And Moses told these sayings to all the children of Israel; and the people mourned greatly.

40 And they rose up early in the morning and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, Behold, we will go up to the place which the LORD has promised us; for we have sinned.

41 And Moses said to them, Why now do you transgress the commandment of the LORD? Therefore you shall not succeed.

42 Do not go up, for the LORD is not with you; lest you be defeated before your enemies.

43 For the Canaanites and the Amalekites are there before you, and you shall fall by the sword; because you are turned away from following the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.

44 Yet they started to go up to the top of the mountain; but neither the ark of the covenant of the LORD nor Moses departed out of the camp.

45 Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites who dwelt in that mountain came down and smote them and pursued them as far as Hirmah.

13 And Moses said to the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it (for thou didst bring up this people in thy might from among them),

19 Pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven them from Egypt even until now.

20 And the LORD3068 said,559 I have pardoned5545 according to your word:1697

20 And the LORD said to Moses, I have forgiven them according to your word;

21 But as truly199 as I live,2416 all3605 the earth776 shall be filled4390 with the glory3519 of the LORD.3068

25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the mountains.) Tomorrow turn and set out for the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.

26 And the LORD3068 spoke1696 to Moses4872 and to Aaron,175 saying,559

26 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

27 How5704 long5704 shall I bear with this2063 evil7451 congregation,5712 which834 murmur3885 against5921 me? I have heard8085 the murmurings8519 of the children1121 of Israel,3478 which834 they murmur3885 against5921 me.

27 How long shall this wicked congregation murmur in my presence? I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel which they murmur in my presence.

28 Say559 to them, As truly as I live,2416 said559 the LORD,3068 as you have spoken1696 in my ears,241 so3651 will I do6213 to you:

28 Say to them, As I live, says the LORD, as you have spoken in my presence, so will I do to you;

29 Your carcasses6297 shall fall5307 in this2088 wilderness;4057 and all3605 that were numbered6485 of you, according to your whole3605 number,4557 from twenty6242 years8141 old1121 and upward 4605which834 have murmured3885 against5921 me.

29 Your corpses shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, because you have murmured against me.

30 Doubtless518 you shall not come935 into413 the land,776 concerning which834 I swore5375 to make you dwell7931 therein, save3588 518 Caleb3612 the son1121 of Jephunneh,3312 and Joshua3091 the son1121 of Nun.5126

30 You shall not come into the land concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jophaniah, and Joshua the son of Nun.

31 But your little2945 ones, which you said559 should be a prey,957 them will I bring935 in, and they shall know3045 the land776 which834 you have despised.3988

31 But your little ones, who you said would become the prey, and your sons who today do not know good and evil, they shall enter into the land, and I will bring them there, and they shall know the land which you have despised.

32 But as for you, your carcasses,6297 they shall fall5307 in this2088 wilderness.4057

32 But as for you, your corpses shall fall in this wilderness.

33 And your children1121 shall wander7462 in the wilderness4057 forty705 years,8141 and bear5375 your prostitutions,2184 until5704 your carcasses6297 be wasted8552 in the wilderness.4057

33 And your sons shall be shepherds forty years in this wilderness, and shall suffer for your whoredom until your corpses are consumed in this wilderness.

34 After the number4557 of the days3117 in which834 you searched8446 the land,776 even forty705 days,3117 each day3117 for a year,8141 shall you bear5375 your iniquities,5771 even forty705 years,8141 and you shall know3045 my breach8569 of promise.748

34 According to the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, a year for each day, shall you suffer for your iniquities, forty years; then you shall know that it is because you have murmured before me.

35 I the LORD3068 have said,1696 I will surely518 do6213 it to all3605 this2063 evil7451 congregation,5712 that are gathered3259 together against5921 me: in this2088 wilderness4057 they shall be consumed,8552 and there8033 they shall die.4191

35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it to all this evil congregation that are gathered together before me; in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

36 And the men,582 which834 Moses4872 sent7971 to search8446 the land,776 who returned,7725 and made all3605 the congregation5712 to murmur3885 against5921 him, by bringing3318 up a slander1681 on the land,776

36 And the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned and made all the congregation murmur against him by publishing an evil report concerning the land,

37 Even those582 men582 that did bring3318 up the evil7451 report1681 on the land,776 died4191 by the plague4046 before6440 the LORD.3068

37 These men who published an evil report of the land died by a sudden plague before the LORD.

38 But Joshua3091 the son1121 of Nun,5126 and Caleb3612 the son1121 of Jephunneh,3312 which were of the men582 that went1980 to search8446 the land,776 lived2421 still.

38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jophaniah, who were of the men who went to spy out the land, still lived.

39 And Moses4872 told1696 these428 sayings1697 to all3605 the children1121 of Israel:3478 and the people5971 mourned56 greatly.3966

39 And Moses told these sayings to all the children of Israel; and the people mourned greatly.

40 And they rose7925 up early7925 in the morning,1242 and got5927 them up into413 the top7218 of the mountain,2022 saying,559 See,2009 we be here, and will go5927 up to the place4725 which834 the LORD3068 has promised:559 for we have sinned.2398

40 And they rose up early in the morning and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, Behold, we will go up to the place which the LORD has promised us; for we have sinned.

41 And Moses4872 said,559 Why4100 now2088 do you transgress5674 the commandment6310 of the LORD?3068 but it shall not prosper.6743

41 And Moses said to them, Why now do you transgress the commandment of the LORD? Therefore you shall not succeed.

42 Go5927 not up, for the LORD3068 is not among7130 you; that you be not smitten5062 before6440 your enemies.341

42 Do not go up, for the LORD is not with you; lest you be defeated before your enemies.

43 For the Amalekites6003 and the Canaanites3669 are there8033 before6440 you, and you shall fall5307 by the sword:2719 because3588 you are turned7725 away310 from the LORD,3068 therefore the LORD3068 will not be with you.

43 For the Canaanites and the Amalekites are there before you, and you shall fall by the sword; because you are turned away from following the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.

44 But they presumed6075 to go5927 up to the hill2022 top:7218 nevertheless the ark727 of the covenant1285 of the LORD,3068 and Moses,4872 departed4185 not out of the camp.4264

44 Yet they started to go up to the top of the mountain; but neither the ark of the covenant of the LORD nor Moses departed out of the camp.

45 Then the Amalekites6003 came3381 down,3381 and the Canaanites3669 which dwelled3427 in that hill,2022 and smote5221 them, and discomfited3807 them, even to Hormah.2767

45 Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites who dwelt in that mountain came down and smote them and pursued them as far as Hirmah.
