Chapter 31

1 At the same1931 time,6256 said5002 the LORD,3068 will I be the God430 of all3605 the families4940 of Israel,3478 and they shall be my people.5971

2 Thus3541 said559 the LORD,3068 The people5971 which were left8300 of the sword2719 found4672 grace2580 in the wilderness;4057 even Israel,3478 when I went1980 to cause him to rest.7280

3 The LORD3068 has appeared7200 of old7350 to me, saying, Yes, I have loved157 you with an everlasting5769 love:160 therefore5921 3651 with loving kindness2617 have I drawn4900 you.

4 Again5750 I will build1129 you, and you shall be built,1129 O virgin1330 of Israel:3478 you shall again5750 be adorned5710 with your tabrets,8596 and shall go3318 forth3318 in the dances of them that make merry.7832

5 You shall yet5750 plant5193 vines3754 on the mountains2022 of Samaria:8111 the planters5193 shall plant,5193 and shall eat them as common2490 things.

6 For there shall be a day,3117 that the watchmen5341 on the mount2022 Ephraim669 shall cry,7121 Arise you, and let us go5927 up to Zion6726 to the LORD3068 our God.430

7 For thus3541 said559 the LORD;3068 Sing7442 with gladness8057 for Jacob,3290 and shout6670 among the chief7218 of the nations:1471 publish8085 you, praise1984 you, and say,559 O LORD,3068 save3467 your people,5971 the remnant7611 of Israel.3478

8 Behold,2005 I will bring935 them from the north6828 country,776 and gather6908 them from the coasts3411 of the earth,776 and with them the blind5787 and the lame,6455 the woman with child2030 and her that travails3205 with child3205 together:3162 a great1419 company6951 shall return7725 thither.2008

9 They shall come935 with weeping,1065 and with supplications8469 will I lead2986 them: I will cause them to walk1980 by the rivers5158 of waters4325 in a straight3474 way,1870 wherein they shall not stumble:3782 for I am a father1 to Israel,3478 and Ephraim669 is my firstborn.1060

10 Hear8085 the word1697 of the LORD,3068 O you nations,1471 and declare5046 it in the isles339 afar4801 off, and say,559 He that scattered2219 Israel3478 will gather6908 him, and keep8104 him, as a shepherd7462 does his flock.5739

11 For the LORD3068 has redeemed6299 Jacob,3290 and ransomed1350 him from the hand3027 of him that was stronger2388 than he.

12 Therefore they shall come935 and sing7442 in the height4791 of Zion,6726 and shall flow5102 together3162 to the goodness2898 of the LORD,3068 for wheat,1715 and for wine,8492 and for oil,3323 and for the young1121 of the flock6629 and of the herd:1241 and their soul5315 shall be as a watered7302 garden;1588 and they shall not sorrow1669 any more3254 at all.

13 Then shall the virgin1330 rejoice8057 in the dance,4234 both young970 men and old2205 together:3162 for I will turn2015 their mourning60 into joy,8342 and will comfort5162 them, and make them rejoice8057 from their sorrow.3015

14 And I will satiate7301 the soul5315 of the priests3548 with fatness,1880 and my people5971 shall be satisfied7646 with my goodness,2898 said5002 the LORD.3068

15 Thus3541 said559 the LORD;3068 A voice6963 was heard8085 in Ramah,7414 lamentation,5092 and bitter8563 weeping;1065 Rahel7354 weeping1058 for her children1121 refused3985 to be comforted5162 for her children,1121 because3588 they were not.

16 Thus3541 said559 the LORD;3068 Refrain4513 your voice6963 from weeping,1065 and your eyes5869 from tears:1832 for your work6468 shall be rewarded,7939 said5002 the LORD;3068 and they shall come7725 again7725 from the land776 of the enemy.341

17 And there is hope8615 in your end,319 said5002 the LORD,3068 that your children1121 shall come7725 again7725 to their own border.1366

18 I have surely heard8085 Ephraim669 bemoaning5110 himself thus; You have chastised3256 me, and I was chastised,3256 as a bullock5695 unaccustomed3808 3925 to the yoke: turn7725 you me, and I shall be turned;7725 for you are the LORD3068 my God.430

19 Surely3588 after310 that I was turned,7725 I repented;5162 and after310 that I was instructed,3045 I smote5606 on my thigh:3409 I was ashamed,954 yes,1571 even1571 confounded,3637 because3588 I did bear5375 the reproach2781 of my youth.5271

20 Is Ephraim669 my dear3357 son?1121 is he a pleasant8191 child?3206 for since1767 I spoke1696 against him, I do earnestly remember2142 him still:5750 therefore5921 3651 my bowels4578 are troubled1993 for him; I will surely have mercy7355 on him, said5002 the LORD.3068

21 Set5324 you up markers,6725 make7760 you high8564 heaps:8564 set7896 your heart3820 toward the highway,4546 even the way1870 which you went:1980 turn7725 again,7725 O virgin1330 of Israel,3478 turn7725 again7725 to these428 your cities.5892

22 How5704 long5704 will you go2559 about,2559 O you backsliding7728 daughter?1323 for the LORD3068 has created1254 a new2319 thing in the earth,776 A woman5347 shall compass5437 a man.1397

23 Thus3541 said559 the LORD3068 of hosts,6635 the God430 of Israel;3478 As yet5750 they shall use559 this1931 2088 speech1697 in the land776 of Judah3063 and in the cities5892 thereof, when I shall bring7725 again7725 their captivity;7622 The LORD3068 bless1288 you, O habitation5116 of justice,6664 and mountain2022 of holiness.6944

24 And there shall dwell3427 in Judah3063 itself, and in all3605 the cities5892 thereof together,3162 farmers,406 and they that go5265 forth5265 with flocks.5739

25 For I have satiated7301 the weary5889 soul,5315 and I have replenished4390 every3605 sorrowful1669 soul.5315

26 On this2063 I awaked,6974 and beheld;7200 and my sleep8142 was sweet6149 to me.

27 Behold,2009 the days3117 come,935 said5002 the LORD,3068 that I will sow2232 the house1004 of Israel3478 and the house1004 of Judah3063 with the seed2233 of man,120 and with the seed2233 of beast.929

28 And it shall come1961 to pass, that like as I have watched8245 over5921 them, to pluck5428 up, and to break5422 down,5422 and to throw2040 down,2040 and to destroy,6 and to afflict;7489 so3651 will I watch8245 over5921 them, to build,1129 and to plant,5193 said5002 the LORD.3068

29 In those1992 days3117 they shall say559 no3808 more,5750 The fathers1 have eaten398 a sour1155 grape,1155 and the children's1121 teeth8127 are set on edge.6949

30 But every one376 shall die4191 for his own iniquity:5771 every376 man120 that eats398 the sour1155 grape,1155 his teeth8127 shall be set on edge.6949

31 Behold,2009 the days3117 come,935 said5002 the LORD,3068 that I will make3772 a new2319 covenant1285 with the house1004 of Israel,3478 and with the house1004 of Judah:3063

32 Not according to the covenant1285 that I made3772 with their fathers1 in the day3117 that I took2388 them by the hand3027 to bring3318 them out of the land776 of Egypt;4714 which834 my covenant1285 they broke,6565 although I was an husband1167 to them, said5002 the LORD:3068

33 But this2063 shall be the covenant1285 that I will make3772 with the house1004 of Israel;3478 After310 those1992 days,3117 said5002 the LORD,3068 I will put5414 my law8451 in their inward7130 parts, and write3789 it in their hearts;3820 and will be their God,430 and they shall be my people.5971

34 And they shall teach3925 no3808 more5750 every man376 his neighbor,7453 and every man376 his brother,251 saying,559 Know the LORD:3068 for they shall all3605 know3045 me, from the least6996 of them to the greatest1419 of them, said5002 the LORD:3068 for I will forgive5545 their iniquity,5771 and I will remember2142 their sin2403 no3808 more.5750

35 Thus3541 said559 the LORD,3068 which gives5414 the sun8121 for a light216 by day,3119 and the ordinances2708 of the moon3394 and of the stars3556 for a light216 by night,3915 which divides7280 the sea3220 when the waves1530 thereof roar;1993 The LORD3068 of hosts6635 is his name:8034

36 If518 those428 ordinances2706 depart4185 from before6440 me, said5002 the LORD,3068 then the seed2233 of Israel3478 also1571 shall cease7673 from being1961 a nation1471 before6440 me for ever.3605 3117

37 Thus3541 said559 the LORD;3068 If518 heaven8064 above4605 can be measured,4058 and the foundations4146 of the earth776 searched2713 out beneath,4295 I will also1571 cast3988 off all3605 the seed2233 of Israel3478 for all3605 that they have done,6213 said5002 the LORD.3068

38 Behold,2009 the days3117 come,935 said5002 the LORD,3068 that the city5892 shall be built1129 to the LORD3068 from the tower4026 of Hananeel2606 to the gate8179 of the corner.6438

39 And the measuring4060 line6957 shall yet5750 go3318 forth3318 over5048 against5048 it on the hill1389 Gareb,1619 and shall compass5437 about to Goath.1601

40 And the whole3605 valley6010 of the dead6297 bodies,6297 and of the ashes,1880 and all3605 the fields8309 to the brook5158 of Kidron,6939 to the corner6438 of the horse5483 gate8179 toward the east,4217 shall be holy6944 to the LORD;3068 it shall not be plucked5428 up, nor3808 thrown2040 down2040 any more5750 for ever.5769

Jeremiah

Chapter 31

1 AT that time, says the LORD, I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.

2 Thus says the LORD: The people who escaped from the sword found compassion in the wilderness when Israel went into exile.

3 The LORD has appeared to me from afar, saying, Yea, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn you.

4 Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin of Israel; you shall again be adorned with your ornaments, and shall go forth in the assembly of those who make merry.

5 You shall again plant vineyards on the mountain of Samaria. Yea, you will plant vines and sing.

6 For the clay is coming when the watchmen on mount Ephraim shall cry, saying, Arise, and let us go up to Zion to the LORD our God.

7 For thus says the LORD: Sing with gladness, O house of Jacob, and rejoice among the chief of the nations; publish, give praise, and say, O LORD, save thy people, the remnant of Israel.

8 Behold, I will bring them from the north land, and gather them from the uttermost parts of the earth, and also the lame and the blind who are among them, the woman with child and her that is in travail together; a great company shall they return here.

9 They shall go with weeping, but they shall return with fervent prayer; I will lead them by the paths that have water, in straight ways in which they shall not stumble; for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first-born.

10 Hear the word of the LORD, O you his people, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He who scattered Israel will gather him, and shall keep him as a shepherd keeps his flock.

11 For the LORD has saved his servant Jacob, and delivered him from the hand of him who was stronger than he.

12 Therefore they shall come and sing on the height of Zion, and they shall be happy because of the goodness of the LORD, for the wheat, for the wine, and for the oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd; and their soul shall be like a watered garden; and they shall not lack any more.

13 Then shall the virgin rejoice and be glad, both young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

14 And I will satisfy the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, says the LORD.

15 Thus says the LORD: A voice was heard in Ramtha, lamentation and bitter weeping; Rachel is weeping for her children, and she refuses to be comforted because they are not.

16 Thus says the LORD: Restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears; for there is a reward for your tears, says the LORD; and the people shall return from the land of the enemy.

17 And there is hope in your future, says the LORD, and the children shall come back to their own land.

18 I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning and saying, O LORD, thou hast chastised me, and I was chastened; I had become like a bullock which cannot be subdued; bring me back, and I will repent; for thou art the LORD my God.

19 Surely after I had repented, I have been comforted; and after I was instructed, I have found rest; I was ashamed, yea even reproved, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.

20 Ephraim is my dear son, and a beloved child; for when I speak of him, I do earnestly remember him still; therefore I have my mercy upon him, I will surely have compassion on him, says the LORD.

21 Set up a standard for yourself, and dwell in the wilderness; set your heart towards the straight highway; repent, O virgin of Israel, says the LORD, and dwell in these your cities.

22 How long will you hesitate, O backsliding daughter? For the LORD has created a new thing on the earth, a woman shall love her husband.

23 Thus says the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel: From henceforth they shall use this saying in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I shall bring them back from their captivity: The LORD bless you, O habitation of righteousness, O holy mountain.

24 And there shall dwell in Judah itself and in all its cities together, farmers and shepherds of flocks.

25 For I have satisfied the thirsty soul and I have replenished every hungry soul.

26 This is why I awoke and beheld; and my sleep was sweet to me.

27 Behold the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and with the seed of beast.

28 And it shall come to pass that as I purposed against them, to uproot them and to break them down and to overthrow them and to destroy and to afflict; so will I be mindful of them, to build and to plant, says the LORD.

29 In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge.

30 But every one shall die for his own sins; every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge.

31 Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah;

32 Not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand and brought them out of the land of Egypt; and because they nullified my covenant, so I also despised them, says the LORD;

33 But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel, after those days, says the LORD: I will put my law in the midst of them, and I will write it upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

34 And they shall teach no more every man his brother and every man his neighbor, saying, Know the LORD; for they shall all know me, from the youngest of them to the eldest of them, says the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity and I will remember their sins no more.

35 Thus says the LORD, who has ordained the sun for a light by day and the moon and the stars for a light by night, who rebukes the sea and stills its waves; the LORD of hosts is his name;

36 If those ordinances depart from before me, says the LORD, then the descendants of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.

37 Thus says the LORD: If the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth below explored, then I will also reject all the descendants of Israel for all that they have done, says the LORD.

38 Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when the city shall be built to the LORD from the tower of Hananael to the gate of the corner.

39 And the measuring line shall go forth straight upon the hill Gareb, and shall curve about to Goath.

40 And the whole valley in which they dump refuse and ashes, as far as the brook Kidron and as far as the corner of the horse gate towards the east, shall be holy to the LORD; it shall not be uprooted nor demolished any more for ever.

13 Then shall the virgin1330 rejoice8057 in the dance,4234 both young970 men and old2205 together:3162 for I will turn2015 their mourning60 into joy,8342 and will comfort5162 them, and make them rejoice8057 from their sorrow.3015

13 Then shall the virgin rejoice and be glad, both young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

14 And I will satiate7301 the soul5315 of the priests3548 with fatness,1880 and my people5971 shall be satisfied7646 with my goodness,2898 said5002 the LORD.3068

14 And I will satisfy the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, says the LORD.

15 Thus says the LORD: A voice was heard in Ramtha, lamentation and bitter weeping; Rachel is weeping for her children, and she refuses to be comforted because they are not.

16 Thus says the LORD: Restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears; for there is a reward for your tears, says the LORD; and the people shall return from the land of the enemy.

17 And there is hope8615 in your end,319 said5002 the LORD,3068 that your children1121 shall come7725 again7725 to their own border.1366

17 And there is hope in your future, says the LORD, and the children shall come back to their own land.

18 I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning and saying, O LORD, thou hast chastised me, and I was chastened; I had become like a bullock which cannot be subdued; bring me back, and I will repent; for thou art the LORD my God.

19 Surely after I had repented, I have been comforted; and after I was instructed, I have found rest; I was ashamed, yea even reproved, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.

20 Ephraim is my dear son, and a beloved child; for when I speak of him, I do earnestly remember him still; therefore I have my mercy upon him, I will surely have compassion on him, says the LORD.

21 Set up a standard for yourself, and dwell in the wilderness; set your heart towards the straight highway; repent, O virgin of Israel, says the LORD, and dwell in these your cities.

22 How5704 long5704 will you go2559 about,2559 O you backsliding7728 daughter?1323 for the LORD3068 has created1254 a new2319 thing in the earth,776 A woman5347 shall compass5437 a man.1397

22 How long will you hesitate, O backsliding daughter? For the LORD has created a new thing on the earth, a woman shall love her husband.

23 Thus says the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel: From henceforth they shall use this saying in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I shall bring them back from their captivity: The LORD bless you, O habitation of righteousness, O holy mountain.

24 And there shall dwell3427 in Judah3063 itself, and in all3605 the cities5892 thereof together,3162 farmers,406 and they that go5265 forth5265 with flocks.5739

24 And there shall dwell in Judah itself and in all its cities together, farmers and shepherds of flocks.

25 For I have satiated7301 the weary5889 soul,5315 and I have replenished4390 every3605 sorrowful1669 soul.5315

25 For I have satisfied the thirsty soul and I have replenished every hungry soul.

26 On this2063 I awaked,6974 and beheld;7200 and my sleep8142 was sweet6149 to me.

26 This is why I awoke and beheld; and my sleep was sweet to me.

27 Behold,2009 the days3117 come,935 said5002 the LORD,3068 that I will sow2232 the house1004 of Israel3478 and the house1004 of Judah3063 with the seed2233 of man,120 and with the seed2233 of beast.929

27 Behold the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and with the seed of beast.

28 And it shall come to pass that as I purposed against them, to uproot them and to break them down and to overthrow them and to destroy and to afflict; so will I be mindful of them, to build and to plant, says the LORD.

29 In those1992 days3117 they shall say559 no3808 more,5750 The fathers1 have eaten398 a sour1155 grape,1155 and the children's1121 teeth8127 are set on edge.6949

29 In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge.

30 But every one376 shall die4191 for his own iniquity:5771 every376 man120 that eats398 the sour1155 grape,1155 his teeth8127 shall be set on edge.6949

30 But every one shall die for his own sins; every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge.

31 Behold,2009 the days3117 come,935 said5002 the LORD,3068 that I will make3772 a new2319 covenant1285 with the house1004 of Israel,3478 and with the house1004 of Judah:3063

31 Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah;

32 Not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand and brought them out of the land of Egypt; and because they nullified my covenant, so I also despised them, says the LORD;

33 But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel, after those days, says the LORD: I will put my law in the midst of them, and I will write it upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

34 And they shall teach no more every man his brother and every man his neighbor, saying, Know the LORD; for they shall all know me, from the youngest of them to the eldest of them, says the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity and I will remember their sins no more.

35 Thus says the LORD, who has ordained the sun for a light by day and the moon and the stars for a light by night, who rebukes the sea and stills its waves; the LORD of hosts is his name;

36 If518 those428 ordinances2706 depart4185 from before6440 me, said5002 the LORD,3068 then the seed2233 of Israel3478 also1571 shall cease7673 from being1961 a nation1471 before6440 me for ever.3605 3117

36 If those ordinances depart from before me, says the LORD, then the descendants of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.

37 Thus says the LORD: If the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth below explored, then I will also reject all the descendants of Israel for all that they have done, says the LORD.

38 Behold,2009 the days3117 come,935 said5002 the LORD,3068 that the city5892 shall be built1129 to the LORD3068 from the tower4026 of Hananeel2606 to the gate8179 of the corner.6438

38 Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when the city shall be built to the LORD from the tower of Hananael to the gate of the corner.

39 And the measuring4060 line6957 shall yet5750 go3318 forth3318 over5048 against5048 it on the hill1389 Gareb,1619 and shall compass5437 about to Goath.1601

39 And the measuring line shall go forth straight upon the hill Gareb, and shall curve about to Goath.

40 And the whole valley in which they dump refuse and ashes, as far as the brook Kidron and as far as the corner of the horse gate towards the east, shall be holy to the LORD; it shall not be uprooted nor demolished any more for ever.
