Isaiah

Chapter 38

1 In those1992 days3117 was Hezekiah2396 sick2470 to death.4191 And Isaiah3470 the prophet5030 the son1121 of Amoz531 came935 to him, and said559 to him, Thus3541 said559 the LORD,3068 Set your house1004 in order:6680 for you shall die,4191 and not live.2421

2 Then Hezekiah2396 turned5437 his face6440 toward413 the wall,7023 and prayed6419 to the LORD,3068

3 And said,559 Remember2142 now,4994 O LORD,3068 I beseech577 you, how834 I have walked1980 before6440 you in truth571 and with a perfect8003 heart,3820 and have done6213 that which is good2896 in your sight.5869 And Hezekiah2396 wept1058 sore.1419

4 Then came1961 the word1697 of the LORD3068 to Isaiah,3470 saying,559

5 Go,1980 and say559 to Hezekiah,2396 Thus3541 said559 the LORD,3068 the God430 of David1732 your father,1 I have heard8085 your prayer,8605 I have seen7200 your tears:1832 behold,2005 I will add3254 to your days3117 fifteen2568 6240 years.8141

6 And I will deliver5337 you and this2063 city5892 out of the hand3709 of the king4428 of Assyria:804 and I will defend1598 this2063 city.5892

7 And this2088 shall be a sign226 to you from the LORD,3068 that the LORD3068 will do6213 this2088 thing1697 that he has spoken;1696

8 Behold,2005 I will bring7725 again7725 the shadow6738 of the degrees,4609 which834 is gone3381 down in the sun8121 dial4609 of Ahaz,271 ten6235 degrees4609 backward.322 So the sun8121 returned7725 ten6235 degrees,4609 by which degrees4609 it was gone3381 down.

9 The writing4385 of Hezekiah2396 king4428 of Judah,3063 when he had been sick,2470 and was recovered2421 of his sickness:2483

10 I said559 in the cutting1824 off of my days,3117 I shall go3212 to the gates8179 of the grave:7585 I am deprived6485 of the residue3499 of my years.8141

11 I said,559 I shall not see7200 the LORD,3050 even the LORD,3050 in the land776 of the living:2416 I shall behold7200 man120 no3808 more with the inhabitants3427 of the world.2309

12 My age1755 is departed,5265 and is removed1556 from me as a shepherd's7473 tent:168 I have cut7088 off like a weaver707 my life:2416 he will cut1214 me off with pining1803 sickness: from day3117 even to night3915 will you make an end7999 of me.

13 I reckoned7737 till5704 morning,1242 that, as a lion,738 so3651 will he break7665 all3605 my bones:6106 from day3117 even to night3915 will you make an end7999 of me.

14 Like a crane5483 or a swallow,5693 so3651 did I chatter:6850 I did mourn1897 as a dove:3123 my eyes5869 fail1809 with looking upward:4791 O LORD,3068 I am oppressed;6234 undertake6148 for me.

15 What4100 shall I say?1696 he has both spoken559 to me, and himself1931 has done6213 it: I shall go1718 softly all3605 my years8141 in the bitterness4751 of my soul.5315

16 O LORD,136 by these5921 things men live,2421 and in all3605 these things is the life2416 of my spirit:7307 so will you recover2492 me, and make me to live.2421

17 Behold,2009 for peace7965 I had great bitterness:4843 but you have in love2836 to my soul5315 delivered it from the pit7845 of corruption:1097 for you have cast7993 all3605 my sins2399 behind310 your back.1458

18 For the grave7585 cannot praise3034 you, death4194 can not celebrate1984 you: they that go3381 down3381 into the pit953 cannot3808 hope7663 for your truth.571

19 The living,2416 the living,2416 he shall praise3034 you, as I do this day:3117 the father1 to the children1121 shall make known3045 your truth.571

20 The LORD3068 was ready to save3467 me: therefore we will sing5059 my songs5058 to the stringed5058 instruments all3605 the days3117 of our life2416 in the house1004 of the LORD.3068

21 For Isaiah3470 had said,559 Let them take5375 a lump1690 of figs,8384 and lay it for a plaster4799 on the boil,7822 and he shall recover.2421

22 Hezekiah2396 also had said,559 What4100 is the sign226 that I shall go5927 up to the house1004 of the LORD?3068

Isaiah

Chapter 38

1 IN those days Hezekiah became deathly sick, and Isaiah, the prophet, the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, Thus says the LORD: Set your house in order; for you shall die, and not live.

2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall and prayed to the LORD, saying,

3 Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

4 Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah, saying,

5 Go and say to Hezekiah, king of Judah, Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will add fifteen years to your days.

6 And I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city.

7 And this shall be a sign to you from the LORD that the LORD will do this thing that he has spoken:

8 Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down on the sundial of Ahaz your father, ten degrees backward. So the shadow of the sun returned the ten degrees by which it had gone down.

9 The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick and was recovered of his sickness:

10 I said, In the midst of my days I shall die, at the gates of Sheol I am deprived of the rest of my years.

11 I said, I shall not see the LORD in the land of the living; I shall behold man no more among the inhabitants of the world.

12 My age is departed and removed from me as a shepherd's tent; my life has shrunk like a shoelace and as a weaver's web which is nearly ready to be cut off; from morning even to night thou hast delivered me to my fate.

13 Like a swallow twittering, so did I chatter; I did mourn like a dove; I have lifted my eyes on high; O LORD, deliver me and comfort me.

14 What shall I say? He has both spoken to me, and himself has done it, and has caused my sleep to flee because of the bitterness of my soul;

15 When the LORD is against men, shall they live? But because of the life of my spirit, heal me and make me to live.

16 Behold, it was for peace that I had great bitterness; but thou hast been pleased with my soul, that it may not waste in corruption; for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

17 For Sheol cannot thank thee, death cannot praise thee; those that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

18 But the living shall give thanks to thee, as I do this day; the father to the children shall make known thy truth.

19 The LORD shall save us; therefore we will sing his songs all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.

20 And Hezekiah said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?

21 And Isaiah said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it as a plaster upon the boil and he shall recover,
