Chapter 11

1 When3588 Israel3478 was a child,5288 then I loved157 him, and called7121 my son1121 out of Egypt.4714

2 As they called7121 them, so3602 they went1980 from them: they sacrificed2076 to Baalim,1168 and burned6999 incense6999 to graven6456 images.

3 I taught8637 Ephraim669 also to go,8637 taking3947 them by their arms;2220 but they knew3045 not that I healed7495 them.

4 I drew4900 them with cords2256 of a man,120 with bands5688 of love:160 and I was to them as they that take7311 off5921 the yoke5923 on5921 their jaws,3895 and I laid5186 meat398 to them.

5 He shall not return7725 into413 the land776 of Egypt,4714 and the Assyrian804 shall be his king,4428 because3588 they refused3985 to return.7725

6 And the sword2719 shall abide2342 on his cities,5892 and shall consume3615 his branches,905 and devour398 them, because of their own counsels.4156

7 And my people5971 are bent8511 to backsliding4878 from me: though they called7121 them to the most5920 High,5920 none3808 at3162 all3162 would exalt7311 him.

8 How349 shall I give5414 you up, Ephraim?669 how shall I deliver4042 you, Israel?3478 how349 shall I make5414 you as Admah?126 how shall I set7761 you as Zeboim?6636 my heart3820 is turned2015 within me, my repentings5150 are kindled3648 together.3162

9 I will not execute6213 the fierceness2740 of my anger,639 I will not return7725 to destroy7843 Ephraim:669 for I am God,410 and not man;376 the Holy6918 One in the middle7130 of you: and I will not enter935 into the city.5892

10 They shall walk3212 after310 the LORD:3068 he shall roar7580 like a lion:738 when3588 he shall roar,7580 then the children1121 shall tremble2729 from the west.3220

11 They shall tremble2729 as a bird6833 out of Egypt,4714 and as a dove3123 out of the land776 of Assyria:804 and I will place3427 them in their houses,1004 said5002 the LORD.3068

12 Ephraim669 compasses5437 me about with lies,3585 and the house1004 of Israel3478 with deceit:4820 but Judah3063 yet5750 rules7300 with God,430 and is faithful539 with the saints.6918

Hosea

Chapter 11

1 WHEN Israel was a child, then I loved him, and I called him, my son, out of Egypt.

2 Just as they were called, so they went away from my presence; they sacrificed to Baal and burned incense to idols.

3 It was I who cared for Ephraim and took them up in my arms; but they did not know that I healed them.

4 I drew them with cords of a man, with the bands of love; and I was to them as one who takes off the yoke from their neck, and I bent over them and fed them.

5 They shall not return to the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian shall be their king, because they refused to repent.

6 The sword shall cause pain in their cities and consume their possessions, and they shall suffer because of their evil counsels.

7 And my people are inclined to backslide from me; though they shall call to God, they will take counsel together, and none at all would exalt him.

8 How shall I uphold you, O Ephraim? How shall I help you, O Israel? How shall I make you as Adamah? How shall I set you as Zeboim? My heart is turned within me, my tender mercies are moved.

9 I will not execute the fierceness of my anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim; for I am God, and not man in the midst of you; I am the Holy One, and I will not come to attack the city.

10 They shall walk after the LORD; he shall roar like a lion; because he shall roar, some of the people shall tremble.

11 They shall come fast like a bird out of Egypt, and like a dove out of the land of Assyria; and I will bring them back to their dwelling place, says the LORD.

12 Ephraim has compassed me about with lies, and the house of Israel and Judah with deceit; until the people of God was humbled, a people once holy and faithful.
