Deuteronomy

Chapter 8

1 All3605 the commandments4687 which834 I command6680 you this day3117 shall you observe8104 to do,6213 that you may live,2421 and multiply,7235 and go935 in and possess3423 the land776 which834 the LORD3068 swore7650 to your fathers.1

2 And you shall remember2142 all3605 the way1870 which834 the LORD3068 your God430 led3212 you these2088 forty705 years8141 in the wilderness,4057 to humble6031 you, and to prove5254 you, to know3045 what853 834 was in your heart,3824 whether you would keep8104 his commandments,4687 or no.3808

3 And he humbled6031 you, and suffered you to hunger,7456 and fed398 you with manna,4478 which834 you knew3045 not, neither3808 did your fathers1 know;3045 that he might make you know3045 that man120 does not live2421 by bread3899 only,905 but by every3605 word that proceeds4161 out of the mouth6310 of the LORD3068 does man120 live.2421

4 Your raiment8071 waxed not old1086 on you, neither3808 did your foot7272 swell,1216 these2088 forty705 years.8141

5 You shall also consider3045 in your heart,3824 that, as a man376 chastens3256 his son,1121 so the LORD3068 your God430 chastens3256 you.

6 Therefore you shall keep8104 the commandments4687 of the LORD3068 your God,430 to walk3212 in his ways,1870 and to fear3372 him.

7 For the LORD3068 your God430 brings935 you into413 a good2896 land,776 a land776 of brooks5158 of water,4325 of fountains5869 and depths8415 that spring3318 out of valleys1237 and hills;2022

8 A land776 of wheat,2406 and barley,8184 and vines,1612 and fig8384 trees, and pomegranates;7416 a land776 of oil8081 olive,2132 and honey;1706

9 A land776 wherein834 you shall eat398 bread3899 without3808 scarceness,4544 you shall not lack2637 any3605 thing in it; a land776 whose834 stones68 are iron,1270 and out of whose hills2042 you may dig2672 brass.5178

10 When you have eaten398 and are full,7646 then you shall bless1288 the LORD3068 your God430 for the good2896 land776 which834 he has given5414 you.

11 Beware8104 that you forget7911 not the LORD3068 your God,430 in not keeping8104 his commandments,4687 and his judgments,4941 and his statutes,2708 which834 I command6680 you this day:3117

12 Lest6435 when you have eaten398 and are full,7646 and have built1129 goodly2896 houses,1004 and dwelled3427 therein;

13 And when your herds1241 and your flocks6629 multiply,7235 and your silver3701 and your gold2091 is multiplied,7235 and all3605 that you have is multiplied;7235

14 Then your heart3824 be lifted7311 up, and you forget7911 the LORD3068 your God,430 which brought3318 you forth4161 out of the land776 of Egypt,4714 from the house1004 of bondage;5650

15 Who led3212 you through that great1419 and terrible3372 wilderness,4057 wherein were fiery8314 serpents,5175 and scorpions,6137 and drought,6774 where834 there was no369 water;4325 who brought3318 you forth4161 water4325 out of the rock6697 of flint;2496

16 Who fed398 you in the wilderness4057 with manna,4478 which834 your fathers1 knew3045 not, that he might humble6031 you, and that he might prove5254 you, to do you good3190 at your latter319 end;

17 And you say559 in your heart,3824 My power3581 and the might6108 of my hand3027 has gotten6213 me this2088 wealth.2428

18 But you shall remember2142 the LORD3068 your God:430 for it is he that gives5414 you power3581 to get6213 wealth,2428 that he may establish6965 his covenant1285 which834 he swore7650 to your fathers,1 as it is this2088 day.3117

19 And it shall be, if518 you do at all forget7911 the LORD3068 your God,430 and walk1980 after310 other312 gods,430 and serve5647 them, and worship7812 them, I testify5749 against you this day3117 that you shall surely3588 perish.6

20 As the nations1471 which834 the LORD3068 destroys6 before your face, so3651 shall you perish;6 because6118 you would not be obedient8085 to the voice6963 of the LORD3068 your God.430

Chapter 8

1 ALL the commandments which I command you this day you shall observe to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to your fathers.

2 And you shall remember all the way which the LORD your God led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, and prove you, to know what is in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.

3 And he humbled you and suffered you to hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, neither did your fathers know; that he might make you to understand that man does not live by bread alone; but by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD does man live.

4 Your clothes did not wear out upon you, neither did your feet go bare during these forty years.

5 You must know in your heart that, as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.

6 Therefore you must keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in his ways and fear him.

7 For the LORD your God brings you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and mountains;

8 A land of wheat and barley, and of vines and fig trees and pomegranates; a land of olive trees, and of oil and honey;

9 A land wherein you shall eat bread without scarcity, you shall not lack anything in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose mountains you may dig brass.

10 You shall eat and be full, and then you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which he has given you.

11 Take heed, lest you forget the LORD your God, in not keeping his commandments and his judgments and his statutes, which I command you this day;

12 Lest when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses, and dwell in them;

13 And when your flocks and herds multiply, and your silver and gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied;

14 Then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;

15 Who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, a place of fiery serpents and scorpions and droughts, a place where there was no water; who brought you forth water out of the flinty rock;

16 Who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that he might humble you, and that he might prove you, to do you good at the end;

17 And you say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.

18 But you shall remember the LORD your God; for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

19 And if you do forget the LORD your God, and walk after other gods and serve them and worship them. I have testified against you this day that you shall surely perish.

20 As the nations which the LORD destroyed before you, so shall you perish if you are not obedient to the voice of the LORD your God.
