Chapter 19

1 WHEN Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came to the border of Judaea, at the crossing of the Jordan.

2 And a great many people followed him, and he healed them there.

3 And the Pharisees came up to him and were tempting him and saying, Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause?

4 But he answered and said to them, Have you not read, that he who made from the beginning, made them male and female?

5 And he said, Because of this, a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh.

6 Henceforth they are not two, but one body; therefore what God has joined together, man must not separate.

7 They said to him, Why then did Moses command to give a letter of separation and then divorce her?

8 He said to them, Moses, considering the hardness of your heart, gave you permission to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it was not so.

9 But I say to you, Whoever leaves his wife without a charge of adultery and marries another commits adultery; and he who marries a woman thus separated commits adultery.

10 His disciples said to him, If there is so much scandal between man and woman, it is not worthwhile to marry.

11 He said to them, This saying does not apply to every man, but to whom it is needed.

12 For there are eunuchs who were born this way from their mother's womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. To him who can grasp, this is enough.

13 Then they brought little boys to him, that he may lay his hand on them and pray; and his disciples rebuked them.

14 But Jesus said to them, Allow the little boys to come to me, and do not stop them; for the kingdom of heaven is for such as these.

15 And he laid his hand on them, and went away from thence.

16 Then a man came up and said to him, O good * Teacher, what is the best that I should do to have life eternal?

17 He said to him, Why do you call me good? There is no one who is good except the one God; but if you want to enter into life, obey the commandments.

18 He said to him, Which ones? And Jesus said to him, You shall not kill; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness;

19 Honor your father and your mother; and, Love your neighbor as yourself.

20 The young man said to him, I have obeyed all these from my boyhood, what do I lack?

21 Jesus said to him. If you wish to be perfect, go and sell your possessions and give them to the poor, and you will have a treasure in heaven; then follow me.

22 When the young man heard this word, he went away sad, for he had great possessions.

23 Jesus then said to his disciples, Truly I say to you, It is difficult for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven.

24 Again I say to you, It is easier for a rope to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

25 When the disciples heard it, they were exceedingly astonished, saying, Who then can be saved?

26 Jesus looked at them and said, For men this is impossible, but for God everything is possible.

27 Then Peter answered and said to him, Behold, we have left everything and followed you; what will we have?

28 Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, that in the new world when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, you who have come after me shall also sit on twelve chairs, and you shall judge the twelve tribes of Israel.

29 And every man who leaves houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or fields, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

30 But many who are first shall be last, and the last first.

1 І сталось, як Ісус закінчи́в ці слова́, то Він ви́рушив із Галілеї, і прибув до країни Юдейської, на то́й бік Йорда́ну.

2 А за Ним ішла бе́зліч наро́ду, — і Він уздоро́вив їх тут.

3 І підійшли фарисеї до Нього, і, випробо́вуючи, запитали Його: „Чи дозволено дружи́ну свою відпускати з причини всякої?“

4 А Він відповів і сказав: „Чи ви не читали, що Той, Хто створив споконві́ку людей, „створив їх чоловіком і жінкою?“

5 І сказав: „Покине тому́ чоловік батька й матір, і пристане до дружи́ни своєї, — і стануть обо́є вони одним тілом“,

6 тому́ то немає вже двох, але́ одне тіло. Тож, що Бог спарува́в, — людина нехай не розлу́чує!“

7 Вони кажуть Йому: „А чому́ ж Мойсей заповів дати листа розводо́вого, та й відпускати?“

8 Він говорить до них: „То за ваше жорстокосе́рдя дозволив Мойсей відпускати дружи́н ваших, споча́тку ж так не було́.

9 А Я вам кажу́: Хто дружи́ну відпустить свою не з причини пере́любу, і одру́житься з іншою, той чинить пере́люб. І хто одру́житься з розве́деною, той чинить пере́люб“.

10 Учні говорять Йому: „Коли справа така чоловіка із дружи́ною, то не добре одру́жуватись“.

11 А Він їм відказав: „Це слово вміщають не всі, але ті, кому да́но.

12 Бо бувають скопці, що з утро́би ще матерньої народилися так; є й скопці, що їх люди оскопи́ли, і є скопці, що самі оскопи́ли себе ради Царства Небесного. Хто може вмістити, — нехай вмістить“.

13 Тоді привели Йому ді́ток, щоб поклав на них руки, і за них помолився, учні ж їм докоряли.

14 Ісус же сказав: „Пустіть ді́ток, і не бороніть їм прихо́дити до Мене, — бо Царство Небесне належить таким“.

15 І Він руки на них покла́в, та й пішов звідтіля́.

16 І підійшов ось один, і до Нього сказав: „Учителю Добрий, що маю зробити я доброго, щоб мати життя вічне?“

17 Він же йому відказав: „Чого звеш Мене Добрим? Ніхто не є Добрий, крім Бога Само́го. Коли ж хочеш ввійти до життя, то виконай заповіді“.

18 Той питає Його: „Які саме!“ А Ісус відказав: „Не вбивай, не чини пере́любу, не кради́, не свідкуй неправдиво.

19 Шануй батька та матір“, і: „Люби свого ближнього, як само́го себе“.

20 Говорить до Нього юна́к: „Це я виконав все. Чого́ ще бракує мені?“

21 Ісус каже йому: „Коли хочеш бути досконалим, — піди, продай до́бра свої та й убогим роздай, — і матимеш скарб ти на небі. Пото́му приходь та й іди вслід за Мною“.

22 Почувши ж юна́к таке слово, відійшов, зажурившись, — бо великі маєтки він мав.

23 Ісус же сказав Своїм учням: Поправді кажу вам, що багатому трудно ввійти в Царство Небесне.

24 Іще вам кажу́: Верблю́дові легше пройти через го́лчине ву́шко, ніж багатому в Боже Царство ввійти́!“

25 Як учні ж Його це зачули, здивувалися дуже й сказали: „Хто́ ж тоді може спасти́ся?“

26 А Ісус позирнув і сказав їм: „Неможливе це лю́дям, та можливе все Богові“.

27 Тоді відізвався Петро та до Нього сказав: „От усе ми покинули, та й пішли за Тобою слідом; що́ ж нам буде за це?“

28 А Ісус відказав їм: „Поправді кажу́ вам, що коли, при відно́вленні світу, Син Лю́дський засяде на престолі слави Своєї, тоді сядете й ви, що за Мною пішли, на дванадцять престолів, щоб судити дванадцять племе́н Ізраїлевих.

29 І кожен, хто за Йме́ння Моє кине дім, чи братів, чи сесте́р, або ба́тька, чи матір, чи діти, чи зе́млі, — той багатокротно одержить і успадку́є вічне життя.

30 І багато-хто з перших останніми стануть, а останні — першими.

2 А за Ним ішла бе́зліч наро́ду, — і Він уздоро́вив їх тут.

3 And the Pharisees came up to him and were tempting him and saying, Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause?

3 І підійшли фарисеї до Нього, і, випробо́вуючи, запитали Його: „Чи дозволено дружи́ну свою відпускати з причини всякої?“

4 But he answered and said to them, Have you not read, that he who made from the beginning, made them male and female?

4 А Він відповів і сказав: „Чи ви не читали, що Той, Хто створив споконві́ку людей, „створив їх чоловіком і жінкою?“

5 And he said, Because of this, a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh.

5 І сказав: „Покине тому́ чоловік батька й матір, і пристане до дружи́ни своєї, — і стануть обо́є вони одним тілом“,

6 Henceforth they are not two, but one body; therefore what God has joined together, man must not separate.

6 тому́ то немає вже двох, але́ одне тіло. Тож, що Бог спарува́в, — людина нехай не розлу́чує!“

7 They said to him, Why then did Moses command to give a letter of separation and then divorce her?

7 Вони кажуть Йому: „А чому́ ж Мойсей заповів дати листа розводо́вого, та й відпускати?“

8 He said to them, Moses, considering the hardness of your heart, gave you permission to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it was not so.

8 Він говорить до них: „То за ваше жорстокосе́рдя дозволив Мойсей відпускати дружи́н ваших, споча́тку ж так не було́.

9 But I say to you, Whoever leaves his wife without a charge of adultery and marries another commits adultery; and he who marries a woman thus separated commits adultery.

9 А Я вам кажу́: Хто дружи́ну відпустить свою не з причини пере́любу, і одру́житься з іншою, той чинить пере́люб. І хто одру́житься з розве́деною, той чинить пере́люб“.

10 His disciples said to him, If there is so much scandal between man and woman, it is not worthwhile to marry.

10 Учні говорять Йому: „Коли справа така чоловіка із дружи́ною, то не добре одру́жуватись“.

11 He said to them, This saying does not apply to every man, but to whom it is needed.

11 А Він їм відказав: „Це слово вміщають не всі, але ті, кому да́но.

12 For there are eunuchs who were born this way from their mother's womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. To him who can grasp, this is enough.

12 Бо бувають скопці, що з утро́би ще матерньої народилися так; є й скопці, що їх люди оскопи́ли, і є скопці, що самі оскопи́ли себе ради Царства Небесного. Хто може вмістити, — нехай вмістить“.

13 Then they brought little boys to him, that he may lay his hand on them and pray; and his disciples rebuked them.

13 Тоді привели Йому ді́ток, щоб поклав на них руки, і за них помолився, учні ж їм докоряли.

14 But Jesus said to them, Allow the little boys to come to me, and do not stop them; for the kingdom of heaven is for such as these.

14 Ісус же сказав: „Пустіть ді́ток, і не бороніть їм прихо́дити до Мене, — бо Царство Небесне належить таким“.

15 And he laid his hand on them, and went away from thence.

15 І Він руки на них покла́в, та й пішов звідтіля́.

16 Then a man came up and said to him, O good * Teacher, what is the best that I should do to have life eternal?

16 І підійшов ось один, і до Нього сказав: „Учителю Добрий, що маю зробити я доброго, щоб мати життя вічне?“

17 He said to him, Why do you call me good? There is no one who is good except the one God; but if you want to enter into life, obey the commandments.

17 Він же йому відказав: „Чого звеш Мене Добрим? Ніхто не є Добрий, крім Бога Само́го. Коли ж хочеш ввійти до життя, то виконай заповіді“.

18 He said to him, Which ones? And Jesus said to him, You shall not kill; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness;

18 Той питає Його: „Які саме!“ А Ісус відказав: „Не вбивай, не чини пере́любу, не кради́, не свідкуй неправдиво.

19 Honor your father and your mother; and, Love your neighbor as yourself.

19 Шануй батька та матір“, і: „Люби свого ближнього, як само́го себе“.

20 The young man said to him, I have obeyed all these from my boyhood, what do I lack?

20 Говорить до Нього юна́к: „Це я виконав все. Чого́ ще бракує мені?“

21 Jesus said to him. If you wish to be perfect, go and sell your possessions and give them to the poor, and you will have a treasure in heaven; then follow me.

21 Ісус каже йому: „Коли хочеш бути досконалим, — піди, продай до́бра свої та й убогим роздай, — і матимеш скарб ти на небі. Пото́му приходь та й іди вслід за Мною“.

22 When the young man heard this word, he went away sad, for he had great possessions.

22 Почувши ж юна́к таке слово, відійшов, зажурившись, — бо великі маєтки він мав.

23 Jesus then said to his disciples, Truly I say to you, It is difficult for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven.

23 Ісус же сказав Своїм учням: Поправді кажу вам, що багатому трудно ввійти в Царство Небесне.

24 Again I say to you, It is easier for a rope to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

24 Іще вам кажу́: Верблю́дові легше пройти через го́лчине ву́шко, ніж багатому в Боже Царство ввійти́!“

25 Як учні ж Його це зачули, здивувалися дуже й сказали: „Хто́ ж тоді може спасти́ся?“

26 А Ісус позирнув і сказав їм: „Неможливе це лю́дям, та можливе все Богові“.

27 Тоді відізвався Петро та до Нього сказав: „От усе ми покинули, та й пішли за Тобою слідом; що́ ж нам буде за це?“
