Chapter 10

1 AND he called his twelve disciples, and gave them power over the unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and sickness.

2 The names of the twelve apostles are these: The first of them Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

3 Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the publican, James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus surnamed Thaddaeus;

4 Simon the Zealot, and Judas of Iscariot, who betrayed him.

5 These twelve Jesus sent out, and charged them and said, Keep away from pagan practices, and do not enter a Samaritan city;

6 But above all, go to the sheep which are lost from the house of Israel.

7 And as you go, preach and say, that the kingdom of heaven is near.

8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons; freely you have received, freely give.

9 Do not accumulate gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses;

10 Nor a bag for the journey, nor two shirts and shoes, nor a staff; for a laborer is at least worthy of his food.

11 Whatever city or town you enter, ask who is trustworthy in it, and remain there until you leave.

12 And when you enter into the house, salute the family.

13 And if the family is trustworthy, your salutation of peace shall come upon it; but if it is not trustworthy, your salutation shall return to you.

14 Whoever will not welcome you, and will not listen to your words, when you leave the house or the village, shake off the sand from your feet.

15 Truly I say to you, that it will be easier for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that city.

16 Behold, I am sending you like lambs among the wolves; therefore be wise as serpents, and pure as doves.

17 But be careful of men; for they will deliver you up to the courts, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;

18 And they will bring you before the presence of governors and kings for my sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.

19 But when they deliver you up, do not worry as to how or what you will speak; for it will be given to you in that very hour what you are to speak.

20 For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father, which speaks through you.

21 Brother will deliver up his own brother to death, and father his son; and children will rise up against their parents and put them to death.

22 And you will be hated by everybody because of my name; but he who endures until the end shall live.

23 When they persecute you in this city, escape to another; for truly I say to you, that you shall not finish converting all the cities of the house of Israel, until the Son of man returns.

24 No disciple is more important than his teacher, and no servant than his master.

25 It is enough for a disciple to be like his teacher, and for a servant to be like his master. If then, they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more those of his household.

26 Therefore do not be afraid of them; for there is nothing covered that will not be uncovered, and hidden that will not be known.

27 What I tell you in the dark, tell it in the daylight; and what you hear with your ears, preach on the house tops.

28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but who cannot kill the soul; but above all, be afraid of him who can destroy both the soul and the body in hell.

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And yet not one of them will fall on the ground without your Father's will.

30 But so far as you are concerned, even the hairs of your head are all numbered.

31 Therefore fear not; you are much more important than many sparrows.

32 Everyone therefore who will acknowledge me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.

33 But whoever will deny me before men, I will also deny him before my Father in heaven.

34 Do not expect that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace but a sword.

35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

36 And a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.

37 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

38 And whoever does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.

39 He who is concerned about his life shall lose it; and he who loses his life for my sake shall find it.

40 Whoever receives you, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives him who sent me.

41 He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive a prophet's reward; and whoever receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man, shall receive a righteous man's reward.

42 Anyone who gives a drink to one of these little ones, if only a cup of cold water, in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, he shall never lose his reward.

1 І закли́кав Він дванадцятьо́х Своїх у́чнів, і вла́ду їм дав над нечистими ду́хами, щоб їх виганяли вони, і щоб уздоровля́ли всіляку неду́гу та неміч всіляку.

2 А ймення апо́столів дванадцятьо́х отакі: перший Си́мон, що Петро́м прозивається, і Андрій, брат його; Яків, син Зеведе́їв, та Іван, брат його;

3 Пилип і Вартоломе́й, Хома́ й ми́тник Матвій; Яків, син Алфе́їв, і Таде́й;

4 Си́мон Кананіт, та Юда Іскаріо́тський, що й видав Його.

5 Цих Дванадцятьо́х Ісус вислав, і їм наказав, промовляючи: „На путь до поган не ходіть, і до самаря́нського міста не входьте,

6 але йдіть радніш до овечок загинулих дому Ізра́їлевого.

7 А ходячи, проповідуйте та говоріть, що набли́зилось Царство Небесне.

8 Уздоровляйте недужих, воскрешайте померлих, очищайте прокаже́них, виганяйте де́монів. Ви да́рмо дістали, дармо й давайте.

9 Не беріть ані золота, ані срі́бла, ані мідякі́в до своїх поясів,

10 ані торби в дорогу, ані двох одеж, ні санда́ль, ані палиці. Бо вартий робі́тник своєї поживи.

11 А як за́йдете в місто якесь чи в село, то розві́дайте, хто́ там достойний, — і там перебудьте, аж поки не ви́йдете.

12 А входячи в дім, вітайте його, промовляючи: „Мир дому цьому́!“

13 І коли буде достойний той дім, — нехай зі́йде на нього ваш мир; а як недостойний він буде, то мир ваш нехай до вас ве́рнеться.

14 А як хто вас не прийме, і ваших слів не послу́хає, то, вихо́дячи з дому чи з міста того́, обтрусіть порох із ніг своїх.

15 Поправді кажу́ вам: легше буде країні содомській й гоморській дня судного, аніж місту тому́!

16 Оце посилаю Я вас, як овець між вовки́. Будьте ж мудрі, як змі́ї, і невинні, як голу́бки.

17 Стережіться ж людей, бо вони на суди́ видаватимуть вас, та по синагогах своїх бичува́ти вас бу́дуть.

18 І до правителів та до царів поведуть вас за Мене, на сві́дчення їм і пога́нам.

19 А коли видава́тимуть вас, не журі́ться, я́к або що́ говорити: тієї години буде вам да́не, що́ маєте ви говорити,

20 бо не ви промовля́тимете, але Дух Отця вашого в вас промовля́тиме.

21 І видасть на смерть брата брат, а батько — дитину. І „діти повстануть супроти батьків“, і їх повбивають.

22 І за Ім'я́ Моє будуть усі вас нена́видіти. А хто ви́терпить аж до кінця, той буде спасе́ний.

23 А коли будуть вас переслідувати в однім місті, утікайте до іншого. Поправді кажу́ вам, — не всти́гнете ви обійти́ міст Ізраїлевих, як при́йде Син Лю́дський.

24 Учень не більший за вчителя, а раб — понад пана свого́.

25 Дово́лі для учня, коли буде він, як учитель його, а раб — як госпо́дар його. Коли Вельзеву́лом назвали господаря дому, — скільки ж більше назвуть так домашніх його!

26 Але́ не лякайтеся їх. Немає нічого захованого, що воно не відкриється, ані потаємного, що не ви́явиться.

27 Що́ кажу Я вам по́темки, — говоріть те при світлі, що ж на вухо ви чуєте — проповідуйте те на даха́х.

28 І не лякайтеся тих, хто тіло вбиває, а душі́ вбити не може; але бійтеся більше того, хто може й душу, і тіло вам занапасти́ти в геєнні.

29 Чи не два горобці продаються за гріш? А на землю із них ні один не впаде́ без волі Отця вашого.

30 А вам і волосся все на голові пораховано.

31 Отож, не лякайтесь, — бо вартніші ви за багатьох горобців.

32 Отже, кожного, хто Мене ви́знає перед людьми́, того перед Небесним Отцем Моїм визнаю й Я.

33 Хто ж Мене відцурається перед людьми́, того й Я відцураюся перед Небесним Отцем Моїм.

34 Не ду́майте, що Я прийшов, щоб мир на землю прине́сти, — Я не мир прине́сти прийшов, а меча.

35 Я ж прийшов „порізни́ти чоловіка з батьком його, дочку́ з її матір'ю, і невістку з свекру́хою її“.

36 І: „вороги́ чоловікові — домашні його!“

37 Хто більш, як Мене, любить батька чи матір, той Мене недостойний. І хто більш, як Мене, любить сина чи дочку, той Мене недостойний.

38 І хто не ві́зьме свого хреста, і не пі́де за Мною слідом, той Мене недостойний.

39 Хто душу свою́ зберігає, той погубить її, хто ж за Ме́не погубить душу свою́, — той зна́йде її.

40 Хто вас приймає — приймає Мене, хто ж приймає Мене, — приймає Того, Хто послав Мене.

41 Хто приймає пророка, як пророка, той дістане нагоро́ду проро́чу, хто ж приймає праведника, як праведника, той дістане нагоро́ду пра́ведничу.

42 І хто напо́їть, як у́чня, кого з мали́х цих бодай ку́хлем водиці холодної, поправді кажу́ вам, — той не згубить нагоро́ди своєї“.

2 The names of the twelve apostles are these: The first of them Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;	2 А ймення апо́столів дванадцятьо́х отакі: перший Си́мон, що Петро́м прозивається, і Андрій, брат його; Яків, син Зеведе́їв, та Іван, брат його;
3 Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the publican, James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus surnamed Thaddaeus;	3 Пилип і Вартоломе́й, Хома́ й ми́тник Матвій; Яків, син Алфе́їв, і Таде́й;
4 Simon the Zealot, and Judas of Iscariot, who betrayed him.	4 Си́мон Кананіт, та Юда Іскаріо́тський, що й видав Його.
5 These twelve Jesus sent out, and charged them and said, Keep away from pagan practices, and do not enter a Samaritan city;	5 Цих Дванадцятьо́х Ісус вислав, і їм наказав, промовляючи: „На путь до поган не ходіть, і до самаря́нського міста не входьте,
6 But above all, go to the sheep which are lost from the house of Israel.	6 але йдіть радніш до овечок загинулих дому Ізра́їлевого.
7 And as you go, preach and say, that the kingdom of heaven is near.	7 А ходячи, проповідуйте та говоріть, що набли́зилось Царство Небесне.
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons; freely you have received, freely give.	8 Уздоровляйте недужих, воскрешайте померлих, очищайте прокаже́них, виганяйте де́монів. Ви да́рмо дістали, дармо й давайте.
9 Do not accumulate gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses;	9 Не беріть ані золота, ані срі́бла, ані мідякі́в до своїх поясів,
10 Nor a bag for the journey, nor two shirts and shoes, nor a staff; for a laborer is at least worthy of his food.	10 ані торби в дорогу, ані двох одеж, ні санда́ль, ані палиці. Бо вартий робі́тник своєї поживи.
11 Whatever city or town you enter, ask who is trustworthy in it, and remain there until you leave.	11 А як за́йдете в місто якесь чи в село, то розві́дайте, хто́ там достойний, — і там перебудьте, аж поки не ви́йдете.
12 And when you enter into the house, salute the family.	12 А входячи в дім, вітайте його, промовляючи: „Мир дому цьому́!“
13 And if the family is trustworthy, your salutation of peace shall come upon it; but if it is not trustworthy, your salutation shall return to you.	13 І коли буде достойний той дім, — нехай зі́йде на нього ваш мир; а як недостойний він буде, то мир ваш нехай до вас ве́рнеться.
14 Whoever will not welcome you, and will not listen to your words, when you leave the house or the village, shake off the sand from your feet.	14 А як хто вас не прийме, і ваших слів не послу́хає, то, вихо́дячи з дому чи з міста того́, обтрусіть порох із ніг своїх.

17 But be careful of men; for they will deliver you up to the courts, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;	17 Стережіться ж людей, бо вони на суди́ видаватимуть вас, та по синагогах своїх бичува́ти вас бу́дуть.
18 And they will bring you before the presence of governors and kings for my sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.	18 І до правителів та до царів поведуть вас за Мене, на сві́дчення їм і пога́нам.
19 But when they deliver you up, do not worry as to how or what you will speak; for it will be given to you in that very hour what you are to speak.	19 А коли видава́тимуть вас, не журі́ться, я́к або що́ говорити: тієї години буде вам да́не, що́ маєте ви говорити,
20 For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father, which speaks through you.	20 бо не ви промовля́тимете, але Дух Отця вашого в вас промовля́тиме.
21 Brother will deliver up his own brother to death, and father his son; and children will rise up against their parents and put them to death.	21 І видасть на смерть брата брат, а батько — дитину. І „діти повстануть супроти батьків“, і їх повбивають.
22 And you will be hated by everybody because of my name; but he who endures until the end shall live.	22 І за Ім'я́ Моє будуть усі вас нена́видіти. А хто ви́терпить аж до кінця, той буде спасе́ний.
23 When they persecute you in this city, escape to another; for truly I say to you, that you shall not finish converting all the cities of the house of Israel, until the Son of man returns.	23 А коли будуть вас переслідувати в однім місті, утікайте до іншого. Поправді кажу́ вам, — не всти́гнете ви обійти́ міст Ізраїлевих, як при́йде Син Лю́дський.
24 No disciple is more important than his teacher, and no servant than his master.	24 Учень не більший за вчителя, а раб — понад пана свого́.
25 It is enough for a disciple to be like his teacher, and for a servant to be like his master. If then, they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more those of his household.	25 Дово́лі для учня, коли буде він, як учитель його, а раб — як госпо́дар його. Коли Вельзеву́лом назвали господаря дому, — скільки ж більше назвуть так домашніх його!
26 Therefore do not be afraid of them; for there is nothing covered that will not be uncovered, and hidden that will not be known.	26 Але́ не лякайтеся їх. Немає нічого захованого, що воно не відкриється, ані потаємного, що не ви́явиться.

28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but who cannot kill the soul; but above all, be afraid of him who can destroy both the soul and the body in hell.	28 І не лякайтеся тих, хто тіло вбиває, а душі́ вбити не може; але бійтеся більше того, хто може й душу, і тіло вам занапасти́ти в геєнні.
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And yet not one of them will fall on the ground without your Father's will.	29 Чи не два горобці продаються за гріш? А на землю із них ні один не впаде́ без волі Отця вашого.

31 Therefore fear not; you are much more important than many sparrows.	31 Отож, не лякайтесь, — бо вартніші ви за багатьох горобців.
32 Everyone therefore who will acknowledge me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.	32 Отже, кожного, хто Мене ви́знає перед людьми́, того перед Небесним Отцем Моїм визнаю й Я.
33 But whoever will deny me before men, I will also deny him before my Father in heaven.	33 Хто ж Мене відцурається перед людьми́, того й Я відцураюся перед Небесним Отцем Моїм.
34 Do not expect that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace but a sword.	34 Не ду́майте, що Я прийшов, щоб мир на землю прине́сти, — Я не мир прине́сти прийшов, а меча.
35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.	35 Я ж прийшов „порізни́ти чоловіка з батьком його, дочку́ з її матір'ю, і невістку з свекру́хою її“.
36 And a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.	36 І: „вороги́ чоловікові — домашні його!“
37 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.	37 Хто більш, як Мене, любить батька чи матір, той Мене недостойний. І хто більш, як Мене, любить сина чи дочку, той Мене недостойний.
38 And whoever does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.	38 І хто не ві́зьме свого хреста, і не пі́де за Мною слідом, той Мене недостойний.
39 He who is concerned about his life shall lose it; and he who loses his life for my sake shall find it.	39 Хто душу свою́ зберігає, той погубить її, хто ж за Ме́не погубить душу свою́, — той зна́йде її.
40 Whoever receives you, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives him who sent me.	40 Хто вас приймає — приймає Мене, хто ж приймає Мене, — приймає Того, Хто послав Мене.
41 He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive a prophet's reward; and whoever receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man, shall receive a righteous man's reward.	41 Хто приймає пророка, як пророка, той дістане нагоро́ду проро́чу, хто ж приймає праведника, як праведника, той дістане нагоро́ду пра́ведничу.
42 Anyone who gives a drink to one of these little ones, if only a cup of cold water, in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, he shall never lose his reward.	42 І хто напо́їть, як у́чня, кого з мали́х цих бодай ку́хлем водиці холодної, поправді кажу́ вам, — той не згубить нагоро́ди своєї“.
