Chapter 20

1 NOW Pashur the son of Amariah the priest, who was governor in charge of the house of the LORD, heard Jeremiah the prophet prophesying these things.

2 Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.

3 And it came to pass on the morrow that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah to him, The LORD has not called your name Pashur, but a stranger and a beggar.

4 For thus says the LORD: Behold, I will make you a sojourner, you and your friends; and the people shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes shall see it; and I shall deliver all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.

5 Moreover I will deliver all the fortified places of this city and all the labor thereof; and all its precious things and all the treasures of the king of Judah will I deliver into the hand of their enemies, who shall plunder them and take them and carry them to Babylon.

6 And as for you, Pashur, you and all the members of your household shall go into captivity; and you shall go to Babylon, and there you shall die, and there you shall be buried, you, and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied lies.

7 O LORD, thou hast comforted me, and I am comforted; thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed; I have become a laughing-stock daily, every one mocks me.

8 For at the time when I spoke and cried out, I spoke against the extortioners and against the robbers; because the word of the LORD has become for me a reproach and derision daily.

9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word became in my heart like a burning fire kindling in my bones; and I sought to be patient, but I could not endure it.

10 For I heard the evil intentions of many, who were gathering from every side inquiring of my peace with their mouth, but hating me in their heart, saying, Point him out to us; we will stand against him; perhaps we can win him over and we shall take our revenge on him.

11 But the LORD is with me as a mighty warrior; therefore all my persecutors shall be ashamed, and they shall not prevail; they have been greatly ashamed because they did not understand; their everlasting shame shall never be forgotten.

12 But, O LORD of hosts, who observest the right cause and seest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them; for to thee have I revealed my cause.

13 Sing to the LORD; praise the LORD; for he has delivered the life of the poor from the hand of evildoers.

14 Cursed be the day on which I was born; let not the day on which my mother bore me be blessed.

15 Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A son is born to you, making him very glad.

16 Let that man be like the cities which the LORD overthrew, and he was never reconciled towards them; and let him hear the cry in the morning and the howling at noon.

17 Because he did not slay me in the womb, so that my mother might have been my grave, and my conception would have remained in the womb for ever.

18 Why did I come forth out of the womb to see toil and sorrow? My days are spent in shame.

2 то ударил5221 Пасхор6583 Иеремию3414 пророка5030 и посадил5414 его в колоду,4115 которая была у верхних5945 ворот8179 Вениаминовых1144 при доме1004 Господнем.3068

3 Но на другой4283 день4283 Пасхор6583 выпустил3318 Иеремию3414 из колоды,4115 и Иеремия3414 сказал559 ему: не «Пасхор»6583 нарек7121 Господь3068 имя8034 тебе, но «Магор4036 Миссавив».4036

4 Ибо так говорит559 Господь:3068 вот, Я сделаю5414 тебя ужасом4032 для тебя самого и для всех друзей157 твоих, и падут5307 они от меча2719 врагов341 своих, и твои глаза5869 увидят7200 это. И всего Иуду3063 предам5414 в руки3027 царя4428 Вавилонского,894 и отведет1540 их в Вавилон894 и поразит5221 их мечом.2719

5 И предам5414 все богатство2633 этого города5892 и все стяжание3018 его, и все драгоценности3366 его; и все сокровища214 царей4428 Иудейских3063 отдам5414 в руки3027 врагов341 их, и разграбят962 их и возьмут,3947 и отправят935 их в Вавилон.894

6 И ты, Пасхор,6583 и все живущие3427 в доме1004 твоем, пойдете3212 в плен;7628 и придешь935 в Вавилон,894 и там умрешь,4191 и там будешь6912 похоронен,6912 ты и все друзья157 твои, которым ты пророчествовал5012 ложно.8267

7 Ты влек6601 меня, Господи,3068 — и я увлечен;6601 Ты сильнее2388 меня — и превозмог,3201 и я каждый день3117 в посмеянии,7814 всякий издевается3932 надо мною.

8 Ибо лишь только1767 начну1696 говорить1696 я, — кричу2199 о насилии,2555 вопию7121 о разорении,7701 потому что слово1697 Господне3068 обратилось в поношение2781 мне и в повседневное3117 посмеяние.7047

9 И подумал559 я: «не буду2142 я напоминать2142 о Нем и не буду1696 более говорить1696 во имя8034 Его»; но было в сердце3820 моем, как бы горящий1197 огонь,784 заключенный6113 в костях6106 моих, и я истомился,3811 удерживая3557 его, и не мог.3201

10 Ибо я слышал8085 толки1681 многих:7227 угрозы4032 вокруг;5439 «заявите,5046 говорили они, и мы сделаем5046 донос».5046 Все, жившие582 со мною в мире,7965 сторожат8104 за мною, не споткнусь67636761 ли я: «может быть, говорят, он попадется,6601 и мы одолеем3201 его и отмстим39475360 ему».

11 Но со мною Господь,3068 как сильный1368 ратоборец;6184 поэтому гонители7291 мои споткнутся3782 и не одолеют;3201 сильно3966 посрамятся,954 потому что поступали7919 неразумно;7919 посрамление3639 будет вечное,5769 никогда не забудется.7911

12 Господи3068 сил!6635 Ты испытываешь974 праведного6662 и видишь7200 внутренность3629 и сердце.3820 Да увижу7200 я мщение5360 Твое над ними, ибо Тебе вверил1540 я дело7379 мое.

13 Пойте7891 Господу,3068 хвалите1984 Господа,3068 ибо Он спасает5337 душу5315 бедного34 от руки3027 злодеев.7489 —

14 Проклят779 день,3117 в который я родился!3205 день,3117 в который родила3205 меня мать517 моя, да не будет благословен!1288

15 Проклят779 человек,376 который принес1319 весть1319 отцу1 моему и сказал:559 «у тебя родился3205 сын»,21451121 и тем очень8055 обрадовал8055 его.

16 И да будет с тем человеком,376 что с городами,5892 которые разрушил2015 Господь3068 и не пожалел;5162 да слышит8085 он утром1242 вопль2201 и в полдень62566672 рыдание8643

5 Moreover I will deliver all the fortified places of this city and all the labor thereof; and all its precious things and all the treasures of the king of Judah will I deliver into the hand of their enemies, who shall plunder them and take them and carry them to Babylon.

5 И предам5414 все богатство2633 этого города5892 и все стяжание3018 его, и все драгоценности3366 его; и все сокровища214 царей4428 Иудейских3063 отдам5414 в руки3027 врагов341 их, и разграбят962 их и возьмут,3947 и отправят935 их в Вавилон.894

6 And as for you, Pashur, you and all the members of your household shall go into captivity; and you shall go to Babylon, and there you shall die, and there you shall be buried, you, and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied lies.

6 И ты, Пасхор,6583 и все живущие3427 в доме1004 твоем, пойдете3212 в плен;7628 и придешь935 в Вавилон,894 и там умрешь,4191 и там будешь6912 похоронен,6912 ты и все друзья157 твои, которым ты пророчествовал5012 ложно.8267

11 But the LORD is with me as a mighty warrior; therefore all my persecutors shall be ashamed, and they shall not prevail; they have been greatly ashamed because they did not understand; their everlasting shame shall never be forgotten.

11 Но со мною Господь,3068 как сильный1368 ратоборец;6184 поэтому гонители7291 мои споткнутся3782 и не одолеют;3201 сильно3966 посрамятся,954 потому что поступали7919 неразумно;7919 посрамление3639 будет вечное,5769 никогда не забудется.7911
