Chapter 2

1 AND in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed a dream and his spirit was troub1ed and his sleep departed from him.

2 Then the king commanded to call the magicians and the astrologers and the sorcerers and the Chaldeans to show the king his dream. So they came and stood before the king.

3 And the king said to them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit is troubled to know the dream.

4 Then spoke the Chaldeans before the king in Aramaic, saying, O king, live for ever; tell your servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.

5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The word that I have spoken is true; if you do not make known to me the dream and its interpretation, you shall be cut in pieces and your houses shall be plundered.

6 But if you show me the dream and its interpretation, you shall receive from me gifts and wealth and great honor; only show me the dream and its interpretation.

7 They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will show its interpretation.

8 The king answered and said, Truly I know that what you want is time, because you see that my word is true.

9 But if you will not make known to me the dream, there is but one sentence for you; for you have prepared lying words and falsehoods to speak before me, to gain time; therefore tell me the dream, so that I shall know that you can show me its interpretation.

10 The Chaldeans answered before the king and said, There is not a man upon the earth who can reveal what the king asks; neither has any great king or ruler ever asked such a thing of any magician or astrologer or Chaldean.

11 For the thing that the king is asking is very difficult, and there is no man who can show it before the king except the gods, whose dwelling is not with men born of flesh.

12 Then the king was exceedingly furious, and he commanded angrily that all the wise men of Babylon should be destroyed.

13 And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and guards sought Daniel and his companions to slay them.

14 Then Daniel meditated and took counsel, and then said to Arioch the commander of the king's guardsmen, who had gone out to slay the wise men of Babylon,

15 Why is this decree from the king so urgent? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.

16 Then Daniel desired of the king to give him time, and promised that he would show the king the interpretation.

17 Then Daniel went to his house and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions,

18 That they might ask mercy before the God of heaven concerning the mystery, so that Daniel and his companions might not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

19 Then was the mystery, revealed to Daniel in a night vision. And Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever; for wisdom and might belong to him;

21 And he changes seasons and times; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to them who know understanding;

22 He reveals the deep and secret things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light is with him.

23 To thee, O God of my fathers, I give thanks, and I praise thee, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast now made known to me what we desired of thee; for thou hast made known to us the king's matter.

24 And in that very hour Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had ordered to destroy the wise men of Babylon; he went and spoke thus to him: Destroy not the wise men of Babylon; but bring me in before the king and I will show the king the interpretation.

25 Then Arioch brought Daniel in before the king in haste, and spoke thus to him: I have found a man of the captives of Judah who will make known to the king the interpretation.

26 The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen, and its interpretation?

27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The mystery which the king has demanded to know, can no wise men, sorcerers, nor the magicians, nor the astrologers reveal to the king;

28 But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, who has made known to the King Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Your dream and the vision of your head upon your bed are these;

29 As for you, O king, your thoughts came into your mind concerning what shall come to pass hereafter; and he who reveals mysteries has made known to you what shall come to pass.

30 But as for me, this mystery is not revealed to me on account of any wisdom that I have more than any living person, but for the sake of the interpretation, that it might be known to the king and that you may know the thoughts of your heart.

31 You, O king, were looking, and behold, a great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before you; and its appearance was terrible.

32 This image's head was of fine gold, its breast and arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of brass,

33 Its legs of iron, its feet part of iron and part of clay.

34 Then you saw that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon its feet that were of iron and clay, and broke them to pieces.

35 Then the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold were all broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and a strong wind carried them away so that no place was found for them; and the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.

36 This is the dream; now I will tell its interpretation before the king.

37 You, O king, are a king of kings; for the God of heaven has given you a mighty kingdom and honor.

38 And every country in which men dwell, the fowls of the air and the beasts of the field, he has placed under your authority, and has made you ruler over them all. You are the head of gold.

39 And after you shall arise another kingdom inferior to you, and a third kingdom of brass, which shall rule over all the earth.

40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron; for just as iron hammers and breaks everything in pieces, so shall it break and conquer every kingdom.

41 And whereas you saw the feet and toes, part of potter's clay and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it some of the strength of iron, just as you saw the iron mixed with miry clay.

42 And as for the toes of the feet which you saw, part of iron and part of clay, so some parts of the kingdom shall be strong and some parts weak.

43 And whereas you saw iron mixed with miry clay, so they shall mix themselves with one another in marriage; but they shall not cleave one to another, just as iron does not mix with clay.

44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up an everlasting kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and bring to an end all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

45 Forasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God has made known to you what shall come to pass in the latter days. The dream is true, and its interpretation is sure.

46 Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer incense and sacrifices to him.

47 The king answered Daniel and said, Truly, your God is the God of gods and the LORD of kings and a revealer of mysteries, for you have been able to reveal this mystery.

48 Then the king advanced Daniel's rank and gave him a great many gifts and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon and appointed him chief over all the generals of the armies and over all the wise men of Babylon.

49 Then Daniel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon; but Daniel himself remained in the king's gate.

25 Тогда116 Ариох746 немедленно927 привел5954 Даниила1841 к6925 царю4430 и сказал560 ему: я нашел7912 из4481 пленных1547 сынов1123 Иудеи3061 человека,1400 который может открыть3046 царю4430 значение6591 сна.

26 Царь4430 сказал560 Даниилу,1841 который назван8036 был Валтасаром:1096 можешь3546 ли ты сказать3046 мне сон,2493 который я видел,2370 и значение6591 его?

27 Даниил1841 отвечал6032 царю4430 и сказал:560 тайны,7328 о которой царь4430 спрашивает,7593 не3809 могут3202 открыть2324 царю4430 ни мудрецы,2445 ни обаятели,826 ни тайноведцы,2749 ни гадатели.1505

28 Но1297 есть383 на небесах8065 Бог,426 открывающий1541 тайны;7328 и Он открыл3046 царю4430 Навуходоносору,5020 что4101 будет1934 в последние320 дни.3118 Сон2493 твой и видения2376 главы7217 твоей на5922 ложе4903 твоем были такие:1836

29 ты,607 царь,4430 на5922 ложе4903 твоем думал55597476 о том, что4101 будет1934 после311 сего?1836 и Открывающий1541 тайны7328 показал3046 тебе то, что4101 будет.1934

30 А мне576 тайна7328 сия1836 открыта1541 не3809 потому, чтобы я был383 мудрее2452 всех3606 живущих,2417 но3861 для1701 того,5922 чтобы открыто3046 было3046 царю4430 разумение6591 и чтобы ты узнал3046 помышления7476 сердца3825 твоего.

31 Тебе,607 царь,4430 было1934 такое видение:2370 вот,431 какой-то2298 большой7690 истукан;6755 огромный7229 был этот1797 истукан,6755 в чрезвычайном3493 блеске2122 стоял6966 он пред6903 тобою, и страшен1763 был1763 вид7299 его.

32 У этого истукана6755 голова7217 была из чистого2869 золота,1722 грудь2306 его и руки1872 его — из серебра,3702 чрево4577 его и бедра3410 его медные,5174

33 голени8243 его железные,6523 ноги7271 его частью4481 железные,6523 частью4481 глиняные.2635

34 Ты видел23701934 его, доколе5705 камень69 не оторвался1505 от горы без3809 содействия рук,3028 ударил4223 в истукан,6755 в5922 железные6523 и глиняные2635 ноги7271 его, и разбил1855 их.1994

35 Тогда116 все вместе2298 раздробилось:18551751 железо,6523 глина,2635 медь,5174 серебро3702 и золото1722 сделались1934 как прах5784 на4481 летних7007 гумнах,147 и ветер7308 унес5376 их,1994 и3606 следа870 не3809 осталось7912 от них; а камень,69 разбивший4223 истукан,6755 сделался1934 великою7229 горою2906 и наполнил4391 всю3606 землю.772

38 и всех3606 сынов1123 человеческих,606 где бы они ни жили,1753 зверей2423 земных1251 и птиц5776 небесных8065 Он отдал3052 в твои руки3028 и поставил7981 тебя владыкою7981 над всеми ими.3606 Ты607 — это золотая1722 голова!7217

42 И как персты677 ног7271 были частью4481 из железа,6523 а частью4481 из глины,2635 так и царство4437 будет1934 частью44817118 крепкое,8624 частью44817118 хрупкое.8406

43 А что1768 ты видел2370 железо,6523 смешанное6151 с глиною2635 горшечною,2917 это значит,1934 что они смешаются6151 через семя2234 человеческое,606 но не3809 сольются1693 одно1836 с5974 другим,1836 как1888 железо6523 не3809 смешивается6151 с глиною.2635

46 Тогда116 царь4430 Навуходоносор5020 пал5308 на5922 лице600 свое и поклонился5457 Даниилу,1841 и велел560 принести5260 ему дары4504 и благовонные5208 курения.5208

47 И сказал560 царь4430 Даниилу:1841 истинно7187 Бог426 ваш есть Бог426 богов426 и Владыка4756 царей,4430 открывающий1541 тайны,7328 когда ты мог3202 открыть1541 эту1836 тайну!7328

48 Тогда116 возвысил7236 царь4430 Даниила1841 и дал3052 ему много7690 больших7260 подарков,4978 и поставил7981 его над5922 всею3606 областью4083 Вавилонскою895 и главным7229 начальником5460 над5922 всеми3606 мудрецами2445 Вавилонскими.895

49 Но Даниил1841 просил1156 царя,4430 и он поставил4483 Седраха,7715 Мисаха4336 и Авденаго5665 над5922 делами5673 страны4083 Вавилонской,895 а Даниил1841 остался при дворе8651 царя.4430

16 Then Daniel desired of the king to give him time, and promised that he would show the king the interpretation.

17 Then Daniel went to his house and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions,

18 That they might ask mercy before the God of heaven concerning the mystery, so that Daniel and his companions might not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

18 чтобы они просили1156 милости7359 у44816925 Бога426 небесного8065 об5922 этой1836 тайне,7328 дабы Даниил1841 и товарищи2269 его не3809 погибли7 с5974 прочими7606 мудрецами2445 Вавилонскими.895

19 Then was the mystery, revealed to Daniel in a night vision. And Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

19 И тогда116 открыта1541 была1541 тайна7328 Даниилу1841 в ночном3916 видении,2376 и116 Даниил1841 благословил1289 Бога426 небесного.8065

20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever; for wisdom and might belong to him;

20 И сказал560 Даниил:1841 да будет1934 благословенно1289 имя8036 Господа426 от4481 века5957 и до5705 века!5957 ибо у Него мудрость2452 и сила;1370

21 And he changes seasons and times; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to them who know understanding;

21 Он изменяет8133 времена5732 и лета,2166 низлагает5709 царей4430 и поставляет6966 царей;4430 дает3052 мудрость2452 мудрым2445 и разумение4486 разумным;3046999

22 He reveals the deep and secret things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light is with him.

22 Он открывает1541 глубокое5994 и сокровенное,5642 знает,3046 что4101 во мраке,2816 и свет5094 обитает8271 с5974 Ним.

23 To thee, O God of my fathers, I give thanks, and I praise thee, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast now made known to me what we desired of thee; for thou hast made known to us the king's matter.

23 Славлю3029 и величаю7624 Тебя, Боже426 отцов2 моих, что Ты даровал3052 мне мудрость2452 и силу1370 и открыл3046 мне то, о4481 чем мы молили1156 Тебя; ибо Ты открыл3046 нам дело4406 царя.4430

24 And in that very hour Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had ordered to destroy the wise men of Babylon; he went and spoke thus to him: Destroy not the wise men of Babylon; but bring me in before the king and I will show the king the interpretation.

25 Then Arioch brought Daniel in before the king in haste, and spoke thus to him: I have found a man of the captives of Judah who will make known to the king the interpretation.

26 The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen, and its interpretation?

27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The mystery which the king has demanded to know, can no wise men, sorcerers, nor the magicians, nor the astrologers reveal to the king;

28 But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, who has made known to the King Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Your dream and the vision of your head upon your bed are these;

29 As for you, O king, your thoughts came into your mind concerning what shall come to pass hereafter; and he who reveals mysteries has made known to you what shall come to pass.

30 But as for me, this mystery is not revealed to me on account of any wisdom that I have more than any living person, but for the sake of the interpretation, that it might be known to the king and that you may know the thoughts of your heart.

30 А мне576 тайна7328 сия1836 открыта1541 не3809 потому, чтобы я был383 мудрее2452 всех3606 живущих,2417 но3861 для1701 того,5922 чтобы открыто3046 было3046 царю4430 разумение6591 и чтобы ты узнал3046 помышления7476 сердца3825 твоего.

31 You, O king, were looking, and behold, a great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before you; and its appearance was terrible.

31 Тебе,607 царь,4430 было1934 такое видение:2370 вот,431 какой-то2298 большой7690 истукан;6755 огромный7229 был этот1797 истукан,6755 в чрезвычайном3493 блеске2122 стоял6966 он пред6903 тобою, и страшен1763 был1763 вид7299 его.

32 This image's head was of fine gold, its breast and arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of brass,

33 Its legs of iron, its feet part of iron and part of clay.

34 Then you saw that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon its feet that were of iron and clay, and broke them to pieces.

35 Then the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold were all broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and a strong wind carried them away so that no place was found for them; and the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.

36 This is the dream; now I will tell its interpretation before the king.

37 You, O king, are a king of kings; for the God of heaven has given you a mighty kingdom and honor.

37 Ты,607 царь,4430 царь4430 царей,4430 которому Бог426 небесный8065 даровал3052 царство,4437 власть,2632 силу8632 и славу,3367

38 And every country in which men dwell, the fowls of the air and the beasts of the field, he has placed under your authority, and has made you ruler over them all. You are the head of gold.

38 и всех3606 сынов1123 человеческих,606 где бы они ни жили,1753 зверей2423 земных1251 и птиц5776 небесных8065 Он отдал3052 в твои руки3028 и поставил7981 тебя владыкою7981 над всеми ими.3606 Ты607 — это золотая1722 голова!7217

39 And after you shall arise another kingdom inferior to you, and a third kingdom of brass, which shall rule over all the earth.

39 После870 тебя восстанет6966 другое317 царство,4437 ниже772 твоего,4481 и еще317 третье8523 царство,4437 медное,5174 которое будет7981 владычествовать7981 над всею3606 землею.772

40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron; for just as iron hammers and breaks everything in pieces, so shall it break and conquer every kingdom.

40 А четвертое7244 царство4437 будет1934 крепко,8624 как железо;6523 ибо как железо6523 разбивает1855 и раздробляет2827 все,3606 так и оно, подобно6903 всесокрушающему45936067490 железу,6523 будет1855 раздроблять1855 и сокрушать.7490

41 And whereas you saw the feet and toes, part of potter's clay and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it some of the strength of iron, just as you saw the iron mixed with miry clay.

41 А что ты видел2370 ноги7271 и пальцы677 на ногах частью4481 из глины2635 горшечной,6353 а частью4481 из железа,6523 то будет1934 царство4437 разделенное,6386 и в нем останется1934 несколько крепости5326 железа,6523 так3606 как6903 ты видел2370 железо,6523 смешанное6151 с горшечною2917 глиною.2635

42 And as for the toes of the feet which you saw, part of iron and part of clay, so some parts of the kingdom shall be strong and some parts weak.

42 И как персты677 ног7271 были частью4481 из железа,6523 а частью4481 из глины,2635 так и царство4437 будет1934 частью44817118 крепкое,8624 частью44817118 хрупкое.8406

43 And whereas you saw iron mixed with miry clay, so they shall mix themselves with one another in marriage; but they shall not cleave one to another, just as iron does not mix with clay.

43 А что1768 ты видел2370 железо,6523 смешанное6151 с глиною2635 горшечною,2917 это значит,1934 что они смешаются6151 через семя2234 человеческое,606 но не3809 сольются1693 одно1836 с5974 другим,1836 как1888 железо6523 не3809 смешивается6151 с глиною.2635

44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up an everlasting kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and bring to an end all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

45 Forasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God has made known to you what shall come to pass in the latter days. The dream is true, and its interpretation is sure.

46 Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer incense and sacrifices to him.

46 Тогда116 царь4430 Навуходоносор5020 пал5308 на5922 лице600 свое и поклонился5457 Даниилу,1841 и велел560 принести5260 ему дары4504 и благовонные5208 курения.5208

47 The king answered Daniel and said, Truly, your God is the God of gods and the LORD of kings and a revealer of mysteries, for you have been able to reveal this mystery.

47 И сказал560 царь4430 Даниилу:1841 истинно7187 Бог426 ваш есть Бог426 богов426 и Владыка4756 царей,4430 открывающий1541 тайны,7328 когда ты мог3202 открыть1541 эту1836 тайну!7328

48 Then the king advanced Daniel's rank and gave him a great many gifts and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon and appointed him chief over all the generals of the armies and over all the wise men of Babylon.

48 Тогда116 возвысил7236 царь4430 Даниила1841 и дал3052 ему много7690 больших7260 подарков,4978 и поставил7981 его над5922 всею3606 областью4083 Вавилонскою895 и главным7229 начальником5460 над5922 всеми3606 мудрецами2445 Вавилонскими.895

49 Then Daniel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon; but Daniel himself remained in the king's gate.

49 Но Даниил1841 просил1156 царя,4430 и он поставил4483 Седраха,7715 Мисаха4336 и Авденаго5665 над5922 делами5673 страны4083 Вавилонской,895 а Даниил1841 остался при дворе8651 царя.4430
