Chapter 16

1 NOW Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, started a faction;

2 And they rose up before Moses with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty chiefs of the assembly, who at that time were men of renown;

3 And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron and said to them, Is it not enough for you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them; wherefore then do you lift up yourselves above the whole congregation of the LORD?

4 And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face;

5 And he spoke to Korah and to all his company and said to them, In the morning the LORD will show who are his, and who are holy; and he will cause them to come near to him; and those whom he has chosen will he cause to come near to him.

6 This do: Take for yourselves censers, you Korah, and all your company;

7 And put fire into them, and put incense into them before the LORD tomorrow; and it shall be that the man whom the LORD chooses, he shall be holy; this is enough for you, O you sons of Levi.

8 And Moses said to Korah, Hear again, O you sons of Levi;

9 Is it not enough for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the whole congregation of Israel and brought you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD and to stand before the congregation to minister to them?

10 And he has brought you near to him, and all your brethren the sons of Levi with you; and do you seek the priesthood also?

11 Therefore both you and all your company gather yourselves together before the LORD tomorrow; and what is Aaron, that you should murmur against him?

12 And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab; but they said, We will not come up;

13 Is it not enough for you that you have brought us out of a land that flows with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, but that you should also make yourselves princes over us?

14 Moreover you have not brought us into a land that flows with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards; even if you should put out our eyes, we will not come up.

15 And Moses was greatly displeased, and said to the LORD, Respect not thou their offerings, because I have not taken an ass from one of them, neither have I hurt one of them.

16 And Moses said to Korah, Present yourselves, you and all your company before the LORD, you and they and Aaron, tomorrow;

17 And take every man his censer, and put fire into it, and put incense into it, and bring before the LORD every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; you also and Aaron, each of you his censer.

18 So they took every man his censer, and put fire into it, and laid incense upon it, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.

19 And Korah gathered all the congregation against them at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation; and the glory of the LORD appeared to all the congregation.

20 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

21 Separate yourselves from the midst of this congregation, that I may destroy them in a moment.

22 And they fell upon their faces and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and shall the wrath come upon all the congregation?

23 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

24 Speak to all the congregation, saying, Keep away from about the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.

25 And Moses rose up and went to Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.

26 And he spoke to all the congregation and said to them, Depart from the tents of these sinful men and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in their sins.

27 So they withdrew from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram; and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents with their wives and their sons and their little ones.

28 And Moses said, Hereby you shall know that the LORD has sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of my own mind.

29 If these men die the common death of all men or if they be visited after the visitation of all men, then the LORD has not sent me.

30 But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth opens its mouth and swallows them up with all things that belong to them, and they go down alive with all that belongs to them into Sheol, then you shall know that these men have provoked the LORD.

31 And when Moses had finished speaking these words, the ground split asunder under them;

32 And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up with their households and all the men who were with Korah and all their goods.

33 They, and all that belonged to them went down alive into Sheol, and the earth closed upon them, and they perished from among the congregation.

34 And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them, saying, Lest the earth swallow us up also.

35 And there came out a fire from before the LORD and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

36 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

37 Speak to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, to take up the censers from among the burned men and scatter the fire yonder; for they are sanctified.

38 The censers of these who sinned against their own souls, make them thin plates for a covering of the altar; for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are holy; and they shall be a sign to the children of Israel.

39 So Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers, with which they who were burned had offered incense, and they were made thin plates for a covering of the altar,

40 To be a memorial to the children of Israel, so that no stranger, who is not of the descendants of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as Korah and all his company, whom the earth opened its mouth and swallowed, just as the LORD had spoken by the hand of Moses.

41 But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron, saying, You have killed the people of the LORD.

42 And when all the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, they turned toward the tabernacle of the congregation; and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.

43 And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.

44 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

45 Get you away from the midst of this congregation, that I may destroy them in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.

46 And Moses said to Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and carry it quickly to the congregation, and make an atonement for them; for wrath has gone out from before the LORD; the plague has already begun among the people.

47 And Aaron took it as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague had already begun among the people; and he put on incense, and made atonement for the people.

48 And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague ceased.

49 Now those who died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, besides those who died in the sedition of Korah.

50 And Aaron returned to Moses at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation; and the plague had ceased.

3 Все вместе они пришли и стали говорить против Моисея и Аарона. «Вы зашли слишком далеко! — сказали они. — Весь израильский народ свят, и Господь ещё живёт среди него! Почему вы ставите себя выше всего народа Господнего?»

4 Услышав это, Моисей пал ниц в знак покорности.

5 Затем Моисей сказал Корею и всем его сообщникам: «Завтра утром Господь покажет, кто воистину свят и принадлежит Ему, и тогда приблизит этого человека к Себе.

6 А ты, Корей, с сообщниками должны сделать следующее:

7 завтра утром положите огонь в кадильницы и всыпьте туда благовонное курение пред Господом, и Он изберёт того, кто воистину свят. Вы, левиты, зашли слишком далеко — вы неправы!»

8 И ещё сказал Моисей Корею: «Слушайте меня, левиты!

9 Радуйтесь тому, что Бог Израиля избрал вас и сделал вас святыми, отличными от всего остального народа израильского! Господь приблизил вас к Себе, чтобы вы исполняли службу при священном шатре Господнем, помогая израильскому народу чтить Его. Разве вам мало этого?

10 Господь приблизил вас, левитов, к Себе, вы же теперь домогаетесь ещё и священничества.

11 Вы и все ваши сообщники объединились против Господа! Разве Аарон сделал что-то не так? Нет! Так почему же вы жалуетесь на Аарона?»

12 Тогда Моисей послал за Дафаном и Авироном, сыновьями Елиава, но эти двое сказали: «Не пойдём!

13 Ты увёл нас из земли, изобилующей всяким добром, и привёл нас в пустыню, чтобы погубить, и теперь хочешь к тому же показать, что у тебя ещё больше власти над нами.

14 Нам не стоит следовать за тобой! Ты не привёл нас в новую землю, полную изобилия, и не дал нам землю, обещанную Богом, не дал нам поля и виноградники. Не собираешься ли ты сделать этих людей своими рабами? Мы отказываемся идти!»

15 Моисей очень рассердился и сказал Господу: «Я не сделал этим людям ничего плохого. Я не присвоил ни единой вещи, принадлежащей им, не взял ни единого осла! Господи, не принимай же от них даров!»

16 Моисей сказал Корею: «Ты и твои сообщники завтра предстанете перед Господом; Аарон также будет там.

17 Пусть каждый из вас принесёт по кадильнице, положит в неё благовонное курение и представит Господу. Всего 250 кадильниц, и ещё по одной для тебя и для Аарона».

18 Тогда каждый, взяв по кадильнице, положил в неё огонь, всыпал благовонное курение, и все они встали у входа в шатёр собрания. Моисей и Аарон тоже стояли там.

19 Корей собрал у входа в шатёр собрания весь народ, и каждому, кто там был, явилась слава Господняя.

20 Затем Господь сказал Моисею и Аарону:

21 «Отойдите от этих людей, потому что Я хочу уничтожить их тотчас же!»

22 Но Моисей и Аарон пали ниц, восклицая: «Боже, Ты знаешь, что думает народ! Просим тебя, не гневайся на весь этот народ, потому что только один человек воистину согрешил!»

23 Тогда Господь ответил Моисею:

24 «Вели народу отойти от шатров Корея, Дафана и Авирона».

25 Моисей поднялся и пошёл к Дафану и Авирону, и израильские старейшины последовали за ним.

26 Моисей предупредил народ: «Отойдите в сторону от шатров этих нечестивых людей и не прикасайтесь ни к чему, принадлежащему им, а если прикоснётесь, то погибнете за их грехи!»

27 И вот народ отошёл в сторону от шатров Корея, Дафана и Авирона, а Дафан и Авирон вышли и стояли у своих шатров вместе со своими жёнами, детьми и младенцами.

28 Тогда Моисей сказал: «Я дам вам доказательство того, что Господь послал меня исполнить всё, о чём я говорил вам, докажу, что всё это не я сам делаю.

29 Эти люди умрут; если они умрут обычной смертью, какой умирают люди, то это будет доказательством того, что Господь не посылал меня.

30 Если же Господь пошлёт этим людям иную смерть, то вы удостоверитесь, что они воистину согрешили против Господа. Земля разверзнется и поглотит этих людей, и они сойдут в могилу живыми, и всё, принадлежащее им, сойдёт вместе с ними».

31 Лишь только Моисей закончил говорить, как земля под ногами у них разверзлась,

32 как будто открыла уста свои, и поглотила их. Все мужчины из семейства Корея, их семьи и всё, что принадлежало им, ушло в землю.

33 Они сошли живыми в могилу, и всё, что принадлежало им, ушло в землю вместе с ними. Земля сомкнулась над ними, и не стало их больше в стане!

34 Израильский народ услышал вопли погибающих, и люди разбежались в разные стороны с криками: «А то земля и нас поглотит!»

35 Затем вышел огонь от Господа и уничтожил 250 человек, принёсших в дар благовонное курение.

36 Тогда Господь повелел Моисею:

37 «Скажи священнику Елеазару, сыну Аарона, чтобы он достал из огня все кадильницы и рассеял угли и золу. Те люди согрешили против Меня, и грех стоил им жизни, кадильницы же освятились, так как они отдали их Господу. Раскатай кадильницы в листы и покрой алтарь этими листами металла, это будет предупреждением всему израильскому народу».

38 После этого священник Елеазар собрал все принесённые бронзовые кадильницы, которые всё ещё оставались там, хотя те, кто принёс их, сгорели, а потом велел нескольким мужчинам раскатать кадильницы в листы металла. Затем он положил эти листы на алтарь,

40 исполнив то, что Господь повелел через Моисея, чтобы народ Израиля помнил, что только семье Аарона дозволено сжигать благовонные курения перед Господом, а если кто другой сожжёт благовонное курение перед Господом, то умрёт, как умер Корей со своими сообщниками.

41 На следующий день среди израильского народа поднялся ропот против Моисея и Аарона. «Вы умертвили народ Господний!» — сказали они.

42 Моисей с Аароном стояли у входа в шатёр собрания, а народ собрался на том месте и стал жаловаться против Моисея и Аарона, но когда они взглянули на шатёр собрания, то увидели, что его покрыло облако и явилась слава Господняя.

43 Моисей и Аарон пришли к входу шатра собрания.

44 Господь сказал Моисею:

45 «Отойдите от этих людей, и Я тотчас же истреблю их». Тогда Моисей с Аароном пали ниц.

46 Моисей попросил Аарона: «Возьми свою бронзовую кадильницу, положи в неё огонь с алтаря и благовонное курение, иди поскорее к народу и сделай всё, что нужно, чтобы очистить его. Поторопись, так как Господь разгневался на израильтян, наслав на них беду!»

47 Аарон сделал всё, как велел Моисей: взял благовонное курение и поспешил к народу, но среди них уже начался мор. Аарон, встав между мёртвыми и теми, кто ещё был жив, сделал всё, как наказал Моисей, чтобы очистить народ. Тогда же мор прекратился;

49 всего погибло 14 700 человек, не считая тех, кто умер по вине Корея.

50 Когда же мор прекратился, Аарон возвратился к входу в шатёр собрания, к Моисею.

Вы, левиты, зашли слишком далеко — вы неправы!»
8 And Moses said to Korah, Hear again, O you sons of Levi;	8 И ещё сказал Моисей Корею: «Слушайте меня, левиты!
9 Is it not enough for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the whole congregation of Israel and brought you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD and to stand before the congregation to minister to them?	9 Радуйтесь тому, что Бог Израиля избрал вас и сделал вас святыми, отличными от всего остального народа израильского! Господь приблизил вас к Себе, чтобы вы исполняли службу при священном шатре Господнем, помогая израильскому народу чтить Его. Разве вам мало этого?
10 And he has brought you near to him, and all your brethren the sons of Levi with you; and do you seek the priesthood also?	10 Господь приблизил вас, левитов, к Себе, вы же теперь домогаетесь ещё и священничества.
11 Therefore both you and all your company gather yourselves together before the LORD tomorrow; and what is Aaron, that you should murmur against him?	11 Вы и все ваши сообщники объединились против Господа! Разве Аарон сделал что-то не так? Нет! Так почему же вы жалуетесь на Аарона?»
12 And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab; but they said, We will not come up;	12 Тогда Моисей послал за Дафаном и Авироном, сыновьями Елиава, но эти двое сказали: «Не пойдём!
13 Is it not enough for you that you have brought us out of a land that flows with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, but that you should also make yourselves princes over us?	13 Ты увёл нас из земли, изобилующей всяким добром, и привёл нас в пустыню, чтобы погубить, и теперь хочешь к тому же показать, что у тебя ещё больше власти над нами.

Ты не привёл нас в новую землю, полную изобилия, и не дал нам землю, обещанную Богом, не дал нам поля и виноградники. Не собираешься ли ты сделать этих людей своими рабами? Мы отказываемся идти!»

16 And Moses said to Korah, Present yourselves, you and all your company before the LORD, you and they and Aaron, tomorrow;	16 Моисей сказал Корею: «Ты и твои сообщники завтра предстанете перед Господом; Аарон также будет там.
17 And take every man his censer, and put fire into it, and put incense into it, and bring before the LORD every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; you also and Aaron, each of you his censer.	17 Пусть каждый из вас принесёт по кадильнице, положит в неё благовонное курение и представит Господу. Всего 250 кадильниц, и ещё по одной для тебя и для Аарона».
18 So they took every man his censer, and put fire into it, and laid incense upon it, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.	18 Тогда каждый, взяв по кадильнице, положил в неё огонь, всыпал благовонное курение, и все они встали у входа в шатёр собрания. Моисей и Аарон тоже стояли там.
19 And Korah gathered all the congregation against them at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation; and the glory of the LORD appeared to all the congregation.	19 Корей собрал у входа в шатёр собрания весь народ, и каждому, кто там был, явилась слава Господняя.
20 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,	20 Затем Господь сказал Моисею и Аарону:
21 Separate yourselves from the midst of this congregation, that I may destroy them in a moment.	21 «Отойдите от этих людей, потому что Я хочу уничтожить их тотчас же!»
22 And they fell upon their faces and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and shall the wrath come upon all the congregation?	22 Но Моисей и Аарон пали ниц, восклицая: «Боже, Ты знаешь, что думает народ! Просим тебя, не гневайся на весь этот народ, потому что только один человек воистину согрешил!»
23 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,	23 Тогда Господь ответил Моисею:
24 Speak to all the congregation, saying, Keep away from about the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.	24 «Вели народу отойти от шатров Корея, Дафана и Авирона».
25 And Moses rose up and went to Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.	25 Моисей поднялся и пошёл к Дафану и Авирону, и израильские старейшины последовали за ним.
26 And he spoke to all the congregation and said to them, Depart from the tents of these sinful men and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in their sins.	26 Моисей предупредил народ: «Отойдите в сторону от шатров этих нечестивых людей и не прикасайтесь ни к чему, принадлежащему им, а если прикоснётесь, то погибнете за их грехи!»
27 So they withdrew from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram; and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents with their wives and their sons and their little ones.	27 И вот народ отошёл в сторону от шатров Корея, Дафана и Авирона, а Дафан и Авирон вышли и стояли у своих шатров вместе со своими жёнами, детьми и младенцами.
28 And Moses said, Hereby you shall know that the LORD has sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of my own mind.	28 Тогда Моисей сказал: «Я дам вам доказательство того, что Господь послал меня исполнить всё, о чём я говорил вам, докажу, что всё это не я сам делаю.

31 And when Moses had finished speaking these words, the ground split asunder under them;	31 Лишь только Моисей закончил говорить, как земля под ногами у них разверзлась,
32 And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up with their households and all the men who were with Korah and all their goods.	32 как будто открыла уста свои, и поглотила их. Все мужчины из семейства Корея, их семьи и всё, что принадлежало им, ушло в землю.
33 They, and all that belonged to them went down alive into Sheol, and the earth closed upon them, and they perished from among the congregation.	33 Они сошли живыми в могилу, и всё, что принадлежало им, ушло в землю вместе с ними. Земля сомкнулась над ними, и не стало их больше в стане!
34 And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them, saying, Lest the earth swallow us up also.	34 Израильский народ услышал вопли погибающих, и люди разбежались в разные стороны с криками: «А то земля и нас поглотит!»
35 And there came out a fire from before the LORD and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.	35 Затем вышел огонь от Господа и уничтожил 250 человек, принёсших в дар благовонное курение.
36 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,	36 Тогда Господь повелел Моисею:
37 Speak to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, to take up the censers from among the burned men and scatter the fire yonder; for they are sanctified.	37 «Скажи священнику Елеазару, сыну Аарона, чтобы он достал из огня все кадильницы и рассеял угли и золу. Те люди согрешили против Меня, и грех стоил им жизни, кадильницы же освятились, так как они отдали их Господу. 38 The censers of these who sinned against their own souls, make them thin plates for a covering of the altar; for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are holy; and they shall be a sign to the children of Israel.	38 После этого священник Елеазар собрал все принесённые бронзовые кадильницы, которые всё ещё оставались там, хотя те, кто принёс их, сгорели, а потом велел нескольким мужчинам раскатать кадильницы в листы металла. 39 So Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers, with which they who were burned had offered incense, and they were made thin plates for a covering of the altar,	39
40 To be a memorial to the children of Israel, so that no stranger, who is not of the descendants of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as Korah and all his company, whom the earth opened its mouth and swallowed, just as the LORD had spoken by the hand of Moses.	40 исполнив то, что Господь повелел через Моисея, чтобы народ Израиля помнил, что только семье Аарона дозволено сжигать благовонные курения перед Господом, а если кто другой сожжёт благовонное курение перед Господом, то умрёт, как умер Корей со своими сообщниками.
41 But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron, saying, You have killed the people of the LORD.	41 На следующий день среди израильского народа поднялся ропот против Моисея и Аарона. «Вы умертвили народ Господний!» — сказали они.
42 And when all the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, they turned toward the tabernacle of the congregation; and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.	42 Моисей с Аароном стояли у входа в шатёр собрания, а народ собрался на том месте и стал жаловаться против Моисея и Аарона, но когда они взглянули на шатёр собрания, то увидели, что его покрыло облако и явилась слава Господняя.
43 And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.	43 Моисей и Аарон пришли к входу шатра собрания.
44 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,	44 Господь сказал Моисею:
45 Get you away from the midst of this congregation, that I may destroy them in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.	45 «Отойдите от этих людей, и Я тотчас же истреблю их». Тогда Моисей с Аароном пали ниц.
46 And Moses said to Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and carry it quickly to the congregation, and make an atonement for them; for wrath has gone out from before the LORD; the plague has already begun among the people.	46 Моисей попросил Аарона: «Возьми свою бронзовую кадильницу, положи в неё огонь с алтаря и благовонное курение, иди поскорее к народу и сделай всё, что нужно, чтобы очистить его. Поторопись, так как Господь разгневался на израильтян, наслав на них беду!»
47 And Aaron took it as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague had already begun among the people; and he put on incense, and made atonement for the people.	47 Аарон сделал всё, как велел Моисей: взял благовонное курение и поспешил к народу, но среди них уже начался мор. Аарон, встав между мёртвыми и теми, кто ещё был жив, сделал всё, как наказал Моисей, чтобы очистить народ. Тогда же мор прекратился;
48 And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague ceased.	48
49 Now those who died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, besides those who died in the sedition of Korah.	49 всего погибло 14 700 человек, не считая тех, кто умер по вине Корея.
50 And Aaron returned to Moses at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation; and the plague had ceased.	50 Когда же мор прекратился, Аарон возвратился к входу в шатёр собрания, к Моисею.
