Proverbs

Chapter 21

1 LIKE streams of water, so is the king's heart in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will.

2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes; but the LORD sets the heart in order.

3 He who does righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the LORD than he who offers a sacrifice.

4 Haughty eyes, a proud heart, and the posterity of the wicked are sinful.

5 The thoughts of the elect tend surely to plenteousness; but those of evil men cause want.

6 The getting of treasure by a lying tongue will bring destruction and death to those who seek it.

7 The destruction of the wicked shall come upon them because they refused to do justice.

8 He who perverts his own way acts strangely; but he who is pure, his works are right.

9 It is better to dwell alone in a corner of the housetop than to live with a quarrelsome woman in a large house.

10 The soul of a wicked man is hidden from his neighbor's eyes.

11 When a wicked man suffers harm, even the simple become wise; but a wise man receives knowledge through his own counsel.

12 The righteous man wisely understands the hearts of the wicked; and he overthrows the wicked into mischief.

13 He who closes his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry to God, but he shall not answer him.

14 A gift in secret pacifies anger; but he who is sparing with his gifts stirs wrath.

15 It is joy to the righteous to do justice, but destruction to the workers of iniquity.

16 The man who wanders from the way of understanding shall lie in the congregation of the dead.

17 He who lacks wealth and yet loves entertainment, wine, and pleasure shall not be rich.

18 The wicked shall be given as a ransom for the righteous, and the deceitful for the upright.

19 It is better to dwell in the wilderness than with a quarrelsome and an angry wife.

20 A coveted treasure and ointment are in a dwelling place; but the wisdom and understanding of men shall dispense it.

21 He who seeks after righteousness and mercy will find life, righteousness, and honor.

22 A wise man scales the defenses of the city of mighty men and conquers the stronghold in which they trusted.

23 He who keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from trouble.

24 In his wrath a hasty and proud man commits iniquity.

25 The desire of the sluggard kills him; for his hands refuse to labor.

26 He covets greedily all the day long; but the righteous man gives and does not spare.

27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; because they bring it in an unjust way.

28 A false witness shall perish; but an obedient man speaks truth.

29 The face of a wicked man is shameless; but he who is upright amends his ways.

30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel like that of the LORD.

31 The horse may be prepared for the day of battle; but salvation is of the LORD.

Глава 21

1 Как поток воды, сердце царя в руке Господней: куда Он захочет, туда его и направит.

2 Все пути человека пред глазами его прямы, но Господь испытывает сердца.

3 Кто поступает праведно и справедливо — угодней Господу, нежели приносящий жертвы.

4 Надменный взгляд и гордое сердце — как светильник для нечестивого, но это грех.

5 Замыслы усердного принесут изобилие, а всякий торопливый лишь обнищает.

6 Состояние, нажитое лживым языком, — это тающий пар ищущих смерти.

7 Жестокость злодеев их же и погубит, ведь они отказываются поступать справедливо.

8 Путь преступных извилист, а поступки невинных чисты.

9 Лучше жить на углу крыши, чем делить дом со сварливой женой.

10 Нечестивый желает зла, милости ближний у него не найдет.

11 Когда наказан глумливый, простаки становятся мудрее; когда наставлен мудрец, он обретает знание.

12 Праведник примечает дом нечестивца и насылает на нечестивца гибель.

13 Если кто затыкает уши от крика бедных, то он однажды сам будет кричать, и его не услышат.

14 Тайный подарок предотвращает гнев, и взятка, скрытая под плащом, — лютую ярость.

15 Радость праведным, когда вершат правосудие, но ужас злодеям.

16 Тот, кто сошел с пути разума, упокоится в обществе мертвецов.

17 Любящий развлечения обеднеет, любящий вино и дорогие мази не разбогатеет.

18 Нечестивым праведника выкупают, а вероломным — верного.

19 Лучше жить в пустыне, чем со сварливой и злобной женой.

20 Дорогое добро и масло остается в доме у мудрого, а глупец его проедает.

21 Стремящийся к праведности и любви найдет и жизнь, и праведность, и славу.

22 Один мудрец может покорить город, полный воинов, и низвергнуть крепость, на которую они полагались.

23 Сторожащий уста свои и язык хранит себя от беды.

24 Гордец надменный, «глумливый» — имя ему; он действует в чрезмерной гордыне.

25 Желания ленивца его умертвят, так как руки его отказываются трудиться.

26 День напролет он жаждет и желает, а праведный дает не жалея.

27 Жертва злодеев — мерзость, тем паче, когда приносится со злым умыслом.

28 Лживый свидетель погибнет, свидетельство того, кто все слышал, устоит.

29 Нечестивый делает уверенное лицо, а праведный обдумывает свой путь.

30 Нет ни мудрости, ни разума, ни замысла, что имели бы успех против Господа.

31 Коня готовят на день сражения, а победу дает Господь.

5 The thoughts of the elect tend surely to plenteousness; but those of evil men cause want.	5 Замыслы усердного принесут изобилие, а всякий торопливый лишь обнищает.

17 He who lacks wealth and yet loves entertainment, wine, and pleasure shall not be rich.	17 Любящий развлечения обеднеет, любящий вино и дорогие мази не разбогатеет.
18 The wicked shall be given as a ransom for the righteous, and the deceitful for the upright.	18 Нечестивым праведника выкупают, а вероломным — верного.
