Proverbs

Chapter 21

1 LIKE streams of water, so is the king's heart in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will.

2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes; but the LORD sets the heart in order.

3 He who does righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the LORD than he who offers a sacrifice.

4 Haughty eyes, a proud heart, and the posterity of the wicked are sinful.

5 The thoughts of the elect tend surely to plenteousness; but those of evil men cause want.

6 The getting of treasure by a lying tongue will bring destruction and death to those who seek it.

7 The destruction of the wicked shall come upon them because they refused to do justice.

8 He who perverts his own way acts strangely; but he who is pure, his works are right.

9 It is better to dwell alone in a corner of the housetop than to live with a quarrelsome woman in a large house.

10 The soul of a wicked man is hidden from his neighbor's eyes.

11 When a wicked man suffers harm, even the simple become wise; but a wise man receives knowledge through his own counsel.

12 The righteous man wisely understands the hearts of the wicked; and he overthrows the wicked into mischief.

13 He who closes his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry to God, but he shall not answer him.

14 A gift in secret pacifies anger; but he who is sparing with his gifts stirs wrath.

15 It is joy to the righteous to do justice, but destruction to the workers of iniquity.

16 The man who wanders from the way of understanding shall lie in the congregation of the dead.

17 He who lacks wealth and yet loves entertainment, wine, and pleasure shall not be rich.

18 The wicked shall be given as a ransom for the righteous, and the deceitful for the upright.

19 It is better to dwell in the wilderness than with a quarrelsome and an angry wife.

20 A coveted treasure and ointment are in a dwelling place; but the wisdom and understanding of men shall dispense it.

21 He who seeks after righteousness and mercy will find life, righteousness, and honor.

22 A wise man scales the defenses of the city of mighty men and conquers the stronghold in which they trusted.

23 He who keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from trouble.

24 In his wrath a hasty and proud man commits iniquity.

25 The desire of the sluggard kills him; for his hands refuse to labor.

26 He covets greedily all the day long; but the righteous man gives and does not spare.

27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; because they bring it in an unjust way.

28 A false witness shall perish; but an obedient man speaks truth.

29 The face of a wicked man is shameless; but he who is upright amends his ways.

30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel like that of the LORD.

31 The horse may be prepared for the day of battle; but salvation is of the LORD.

Глава 21

1 Ручьям подобно сердце царя в руке ГОСПОДА: куда пожелает Он, туда его и направит.

2 Все пути человека прямы в его глазах, но ГОСПОДЬ испытует сердца.

3 Поступки справедливые и праведные желаннее для ГОСПОДА, чем жертва.

4 Надменные взгляды и сердца гордые сеют плевелы греха на ниве нечестивцев.

5 Замыслы человека усердного принесут достаток, а тот, кто всё наспех делает, впадет в нужду.

6 Богатство, добытое лживым языком, — лишь уносимый ветром пар, ловушка смерти.

7 Сметет нечестивцев само их злодейство, потому что они отказываются поступать справедливо.

8 Извилист путь человека порочного, а кто душою чист — тот поступает честно.

9 Лучше на самом краю крыши ютиться, чем жить в просторном доме со сварливой женой.

10 Нечестивец страстно желает зла и ближнего своего не пощадит.

11 Наказывают бесстыдного человека — простак мудрее становится; когда же мудрого вразумляют — он обретает знание.

12 Праведный следит за домом нечестивца, на беду нечестивцев обрекает.

13 Кто к мольбам бедняков глух — сам однажды позовет на помощь, да никто не отзовется.

14 Тайный дар успокоит гнев, взятка из-под полы лютую ярость погасит.

15 Когда торжествует справедливость, праведник радуется, а злодей приходит в смятение.

16 Кто с пути разумного сбился, лишь в кругу мертвецов обретет покой.

17 Любишь веселиться — в нужду попадешь; тому, кто вино и пиры любит, богатым не бывать.

18 Выкуп за праведника — нечестивец, за честного — лжец.

19 Лучше в пустыне жить, чем вместе со сварливой и злобной женой.

20 Запасется мудрый и сокровищем желанным, и оливковым маслом, а глупец всё проест.

21 Кто стремится к праведности и неизменной любви — обретет и жизнь, и праведность, и славу.

22 Мудрый человек выступит против целого города воинов, и разрушит твердыню, на которую они полагались.

23 Кто в чистоте хранит уста свои и язык, тот сохранит себя от бед.

24 Вот каков кощунник: дерзок он, надменен и полон необузданной гордыни.

25 Погубит лентяя его собственная прихоть, потому что руками не хочет трудиться.

26 Каждый день снедает его прихоть, а праведник раздает, не скупясь.

27 Жертвы нечестивцев — мерзость для Господа, а принесенные со злым умыслом — и подавно.

28 Лжесвидетель сгинет, а тот, кто внимательно выслушает свидетелей, выиграет тяжбу.

29 У нечестивца глаза бесстыжие, человек же честный думает, как ему поступить.

30 Бессильны пред ГОСПОДОМ и мудрость, и разум, и совет.

31 Готовят коня ко дню битвы, но победа — от ГОСПОДА.

2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes; but the LORD sets the heart in order.	2 Все пути человека прямы в его глазах, но ГОСПОДЬ испытует сердца.

12 The righteous man wisely understands the hearts of the wicked; and he overthrows the wicked into mischief.	12 Праведный следит за домом нечестивца, на беду нечестивцев обрекает.

14 A gift in secret pacifies anger; but he who is sparing with his gifts stirs wrath.	14 Тайный дар успокоит гнев, взятка из-под полы лютую ярость погасит.
15 It is joy to the righteous to do justice, but destruction to the workers of iniquity.	15 Когда торжествует справедливость, праведник радуется, а злодей приходит в смятение.
16 The man who wanders from the way of understanding shall lie in the congregation of the dead.	16 Кто с пути разумного сбился, лишь в кругу мертвецов обретет покой.
17 He who lacks wealth and yet loves entertainment, wine, and pleasure shall not be rich.	17 Любишь веселиться — в нужду попадешь; тому, кто вино и пиры любит, богатым не бывать.
18 The wicked shall be given as a ransom for the righteous, and the deceitful for the upright.	18 Выкуп за праведника — нечестивец, за честного — лжец.
