Chapter 42

1 THEN all the officers of the forces and Johanan the son of Kareah and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah and all the people from the young to the old came near.

2 And said to Jeremiah, We beseech you, pray for us before the LORD your God, for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes see us;

3 That the LORD our God may show us the way by which we may go and the thing that we may do.

4 Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, I have heard you; behold. I will pray before the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass that whatever the LORD shall answer you. I will declare it to you; I will hide nothing from you.

5 Then they said to Jeremiah, May the LORD be a true and faithful witness between us if we do not do according to the word with which the LORD your God shall send you to us.

6 Whether it be good or whether it be bad, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God to whom we send you; that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.

7 And it came to pass after ten days that the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet.

8 Then he called Johanan the son of Kareah and all the officers of the forces that were with him and all the people from the young to the old,

9 And said to them, Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your supplication before him:

10 If you will dwell in this land, then I will build you and not pull you down, and I will plant you and not pluck you up; for I will cease from the harm that I have done to you.

11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid; be not afraid of him, says the LORD, for I am with you to save you, says the LORD; and to deliver you from his hands.

12 And I will show mercy to you, that he may have mercy upon you and cause you to be settled in your own land.

13 But if you say, We will not dwell in this land, because you would not obey the voice of the LORD your God,

14 Saying, Not so; but we will go into the land of Egypt that we may not see war nor hear the sound of the trumpet nor have hunger for bread; and there will we dwell;

15 And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, O remnant of Judah; thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: If you set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to live there;

16 Then it shall come to pass that the sword which you fear shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine of which you are afraid shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there you shall die.

17 So shall it be with all the men who set their faces to enter into Egypt to live there; they shall die by sword, by famine, and by pestilence; and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.

18 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: As my anger and my fury have been poured out upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured out upon you, when you shall enter into Egypt; and you shall be an execration and an astonishment and a curse and a reproach; and you shall see this place no more.

19 The LORD has said concerning you, O remnant of Judah: Do not go to Egypt; know certainly that I have warned you this very day.

20 For you have deceived yourselves when you sent me to the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us before the LORD our God, and whatever the LORD our God shall say to you declare to us and we will do it.

21 And this day I have declared to you; but you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God; anything for which he has sent me to you, you have not done.

22 Now therefore know certainly that you shall die by sword, by famine, and by pestilence in the place where you desire to go to live.

Глава 42

1 И пришли все военачальники, и Иоханан, сын Кареев, и Иезания, сын Гошаии, и весь народ от малого до большого,

2 И сказали Иеремии пророку: да падет пред лице твое прошение наше, и помолись Иегове, Богу твоему, о нас, обо всем остатке сем, ибо из многого осталось нам мало, как глаза твои видят нас;

3 И да откроет нам Иегова, Бог твой, путь, по которому нам идти, и что нам делать.

4 И сказал им Иеремия пророк: слушаю, вот я молюсь Иегове, Богу вашему, по слову вашему, и все, что ответит вам Иегова, возвещу вам, не утаю от вас ни слова.

5 А они сказали Иеремии: Иегова да будет между нами свидетелем верным и истинным в том, что мы точно выполним все то, с чем пришлет тебя к нам Иегова, Бог твой:

6 Хорошо ли, худо ли, но гласа Иеговы, Бога нашего, к Которому тебя посылаем, послушаемся, чтобы нам было хорошо, когда будем послушны гласу Иеговы, Бога нашего.

7 По прошествии десяти дней было слово Иеговы к Иеремии:

8 Он позвал к себе Иоханана, сына Кареева, и всех бывших с ним военачальников, и весь народ от малого до большого.

9 И сказал им: так говорит Иегова, Бог Израилев, к Которому вы посылали меня, чтоб положить пред Ним прошение ваше.

10 Если останетесь жить на земле сей, то Я устрою вас и не разорю, насажду вас и не искореню: ибо Я сожалею о том зле, какое сделал вам.

11 Не бойтесь царя вавилонского, которого теперь боитесь; не бойтесь его, говорит Иегова, ибо Я с вами, чтобы спасать вас и избавлять вас от руки его.

12 И дам вам милость, и он помилует вас, и возвратит вас в землю вашу.

13 Если же вы, не слушая гласа Иеговы, Бога вашего, скажете: `не хотим жить на земле сей;

14 Нет, лучше пойдем в землю египетскую, где войны не увидим, и трубного звука не услышим, и что касается до хлеба, голодны не будем; там и поселимся`;

15 То, остаток Иуды, выслушайте на сей случай слово Иеговы. Так говорит Иегова воинств, Бог Иараилев: если вы решительно обратите лица ваши, чтоб пойти в Египет, и пойдете, чтоб побыть там до времени;

16 То меч, которого вы боитесь, настигнет вас там, в земле египетской, и голод, которого вы опасаетесь, там в Египте найдет вас, и там умрете.

17 И все люди, которые обратят лице свое, чтоб идти в Египет побыть там до времени, умрут от меча, голода и моровой язвы, и не будет у них уцелевшего и спасшегося от беды, какую Я наведу на них.

18 Ибо так говорит Иегова воинств, Бог Израилев: как излился гнев Мой, и ярость Моя на жителей Иерусалима, так излиется ярость Моя на вас, когда пойдете в Египет, и будете предметом проклятия и ужаса, и порицания, и посмеяния, и уже не увидите места сего.

19 Вам, остаток Иуды, изрек Иегова: `не ходите в Египет`; знайте, что я сегодня свидетельствую пред вами.

20 Что вы на себя самих лжете; ибо вы послали меня к Иегове, Богу вашему, сказав: `помолись о нас Иегове, Богу нашему, и все, что скажет Иегова, Бог наш, верно объяви нам, мы так и сделаем`.

21 Я вам и объявил сегодня, а вы не слушаете гласа Иеговы, Бога вашего, и всего того, с чем Он прислал меня к вам.

22 Итак знайте, что от меча, голода и моровой язвы умрете на том месте, куда хотите идти, чтоб побыть там до времени.

1 THEN all the officers of the forces and Johanan the son of Kareah and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah and all the people from the young to the old came near.

1 И пришли все военачальники, и Иоханан, сын Кареев, и Иезания, сын Гошаии, и весь народ от малого до большого,

2 And said to Jeremiah, We beseech you, pray for us before the LORD your God, for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes see us;

2 И сказали Иеремии пророку: да падет пред лице твое прошение наше, и помолись Иегове, Богу твоему, о нас, обо всем остатке сем, ибо из многого осталось нам мало, как глаза твои видят нас;

3 That the LORD our God may show us the way by which we may go and the thing that we may do.

3 И да откроет нам Иегова, Бог твой, путь, по которому нам идти, и что нам делать.

4 Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, I have heard you; behold. I will pray before the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass that whatever the LORD shall answer you. I will declare it to you; I will hide nothing from you.

4 И сказал им Иеремия пророк: слушаю, вот я молюсь Иегове, Богу вашему, по слову вашему, и все, что ответит вам Иегова, возвещу вам, не утаю от вас ни слова.

5 Then they said to Jeremiah, May the LORD be a true and faithful witness between us if we do not do according to the word with which the LORD your God shall send you to us.

5 А они сказали Иеремии: Иегова да будет между нами свидетелем верным и истинным в том, что мы точно выполним все то, с чем пришлет тебя к нам Иегова, Бог твой:

6 Whether it be good or whether it be bad, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God to whom we send you; that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.

6 Хорошо ли, худо ли, но гласа Иеговы, Бога нашего, к Которому тебя посылаем, послушаемся, чтобы нам было хорошо, когда будем послушны гласу Иеговы, Бога нашего.

7 And it came to pass after ten days that the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet.

7 По прошествии десяти дней было слово Иеговы к Иеремии:

8 Then he called Johanan the son of Kareah and all the officers of the forces that were with him and all the people from the young to the old,

8 Он позвал к себе Иоханана, сына Кареева, и всех бывших с ним военачальников, и весь народ от малого до большого.

9 And said to them, Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your supplication before him:

9 И сказал им: так говорит Иегова, Бог Израилев, к Которому вы посылали меня, чтоб положить пред Ним прошение ваше.

10 If you will dwell in this land, then I will build you and not pull you down, and I will plant you and not pluck you up; for I will cease from the harm that I have done to you.

10 Если останетесь жить на земле сей, то Я устрою вас и не разорю, насажду вас и не искореню: ибо Я сожалею о том зле, какое сделал вам.

11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid; be not afraid of him, says the LORD, for I am with you to save you, says the LORD; and to deliver you from his hands.

11 Не бойтесь царя вавилонского, которого теперь боитесь; не бойтесь его, говорит Иегова, ибо Я с вами, чтобы спасать вас и избавлять вас от руки его.

12 And I will show mercy to you, that he may have mercy upon you and cause you to be settled in your own land.

12 И дам вам милость, и он помилует вас, и возвратит вас в землю вашу.

13 But if you say, We will not dwell in this land, because you would not obey the voice of the LORD your God,

13 Если же вы, не слушая гласа Иеговы, Бога вашего, скажете: `не хотим жить на земле сей;

14 Saying, Not so; but we will go into the land of Egypt that we may not see war nor hear the sound of the trumpet nor have hunger for bread; and there will we dwell;

14 Нет, лучше пойдем в землю египетскую, где войны не увидим, и трубного звука не услышим, и что касается до хлеба, голодны не будем; там и поселимся`;

15 And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, O remnant of Judah; thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: If you set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to live there;

15 То, остаток Иуды, выслушайте на сей случай слово Иеговы. Так говорит Иегова воинств, Бог Иараилев: если вы решительно обратите лица ваши, чтоб пойти в Египет, и пойдете, чтоб побыть там до времени;

16 Then it shall come to pass that the sword which you fear shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine of which you are afraid shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there you shall die.

16 То меч, которого вы боитесь, настигнет вас там, в земле египетской, и голод, которого вы опасаетесь, там в Египте найдет вас, и там умрете.

17 So shall it be with all the men who set their faces to enter into Egypt to live there; they shall die by sword, by famine, and by pestilence; and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.

17 И все люди, которые обратят лице свое, чтоб идти в Египет побыть там до времени, умрут от меча, голода и моровой язвы, и не будет у них уцелевшего и спасшегося от беды, какую Я наведу на них.

18 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: As my anger and my fury have been poured out upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured out upon you, when you shall enter into Egypt; and you shall be an execration and an astonishment and a curse and a reproach; and you shall see this place no more.

18 Ибо так говорит Иегова воинств, Бог Израилев: как излился гнев Мой, и ярость Моя на жителей Иерусалима, так излиется ярость Моя на вас, когда пойдете в Египет, и будете предметом проклятия и ужаса, и порицания, и посмеяния, и уже не увидите места сего.

19 The LORD has said concerning you, O remnant of Judah: Do not go to Egypt; know certainly that I have warned you this very day.

19 Вам, остаток Иуды, изрек Иегова: `не ходите в Египет`; знайте, что я сегодня свидетельствую пред вами.

20 For you have deceived yourselves when you sent me to the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us before the LORD our God, and whatever the LORD our God shall say to you declare to us and we will do it.

20 Что вы на себя самих лжете; ибо вы послали меня к Иегове, Богу вашему, сказав: `помолись о нас Иегове, Богу нашему, и все, что скажет Иегова, Бог наш, верно объяви нам, мы так и сделаем`.

21 And this day I have declared to you; but you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God; anything for which he has sent me to you, you have not done.

21 Я вам и объявил сегодня, а вы не слушаете гласа Иеговы, Бога вашего, и всего того, с чем Он прислал меня к вам.

22 Итак знайте, что от меча, голода и моровой язвы умрете на том месте, куда хотите идти, чтоб побыть там до времени.
