Chapter 4

1 AND when all the people had finished passing over the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua,

2 Take twelve men from the people, a man out of every tribe,

3 And command them, saying, Take from here out of the midst of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood, twelve stones, and you shall carry them over with you, and lay them in the lodging place where you lodge this night.

4 Then Joshua called the twelve men who were selected from the children of Israel, out of each tribe a man;

5 And Joshua said to them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel;

6 That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask you in time to come, saying, What is the meaning of these stones?

7 Then you shall tell them, The waters of the Jordan were divided before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when we passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were divided; and these stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel for ever.

8 And the children of Israel did as Joshua commanded them, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as the LORD had said to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them to the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

9 And they set up the twelve stones which they had taken out of the midst of the Jordan, where stood the feet of the priests who were bearing the ark of the covenant; and they are there to this day.

10 And the priests who bore the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan until everything was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to tell to the people, according to all that Moses had commanded Joshua; and the people made haste and passed over.

11 And when all the people had finished passing over, the ark of the LORD and the priests passed over before the people.

12 Then the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses had told them;

13 About forty thousand men armed for war passed over before the LORD to battle, to the plains of Jericho.

14 On that very day the LORD exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they had feared Moses, all the days of his life.

15 And the LORD said to Joshua,

16 Command the priests who bear the ark of the testimony to come up out of the Jordan.

17 Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come up out of the Jordan.

18 And when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD had come up out of the midst of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet rested firm on the dry land, the waters of the Jordan rushed to their place, and overflowed all its banks, as they did before.

19 And the people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the east border of Jericho.

20 And those twelve stones which they took out of the Jordan. Joshua set up at Gilgal.

21 And he said to the children of Israel, When your children shall ask you in time to come, saying, What is the meaning of these stones?

22 Then you shall explain them to your children, and say to them, The children of Israel crossed this Jordan on dry land.

23 For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before them, until they passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us until we passed over;

24 So that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, and that you may worship the LORD your God for ever.

1 Когда весь народ перешел через Иордан, ГОСПОДЬ сказал Иисусу:

2 «Отправь двенадцать человек из народа, по одному от каждого колена Израилева,

3 и вели им взять отсюда, с середины русла Иордана, с того места, где на твердом основании стоят ноги священников, двенадцать камней. Вынесите их и сложите там, где остановитесь сегодня».

4 Призвал Иисус двенадцать израильтян, которые прежде были выбраны, по одному от каждого колена,

5 и сказал им: «Выходите на середину Иордана, к ковчегу ГОСПОДА, Бога вашего, и пусть каждый из вас вынесет на плече своем по одному камню, по числу колен Израилевых.

6 Камни эти будут знаком, напоминанием для вас, и когда в будущем спросят вас дети ваши: „Что это за камни и что они значат для вас?“,

7 вы расскажете им, как расступились воды Иордана перед ковчегом Завета ГОСПОДА: лишь только внесли его в Иордан — и они расступились. Эти камни служат израильтянам вечным напоминанием о том».

8 Израильтяне сделали всё так, как повелел Иисус: вынесли из Иордана, как сказал ГОСПОДЬ Иисусу, двенадцать камней, по числу колен Израилевых, перенесли их к месту своей стоянки и установили там.

9 Иисус же взял двенадцать других камней и поставил их посреди Иордана, на том месте, где стояли священники, несшие ковчег Завета. Камни эти и поныне там.

10 Священники же стояли с ковчегом посреди Иордана, пока не были исполнены все указания ГОСПОДА, переданные Иисусом народу (так, как и Моисей заповедал Иисусу). Народ между тем поспешно переходил через реку.

11 Лишь когда все были уже на другой стороне, двинулся ковчег ГОСПОДЕНЬ и священники, они вышли на берег на виду у всего народа.

12 Первыми из израильтян переправились с оружием в руках потомки Рувима, Гада и половина колена Манассии, как велел им еще Моисей.

13 Их было около сорока тысяч воинов, готовых к войне. И вышли они перед ГОСПОДОМ на Иерихонскую равнину.

14 И возвеличил ГОСПОДЬ в тот день Иисуса в глазах всего народа израильского. И они благоговели перед ним так же, как благоговели перед Моисеем во все дни его жизни.

15 Но прежде чем вынесли ковчег на берег, ГОСПОДЬ сказал Иисусу:

16 «Вели священникам, что несут ковчег со скрижалями Закона, выйти из Иордана».

17 Иисус передал это повеление священникам.

18 Они вышли, неся ковчег Завета ГОСПОДНЕГО. И едва лишь их ноги коснулись берега, как воды Иордана вернулись в свое русло, и река вновь разлилась, переполняя берега, как и прежде.

19 Так в десятый день первого месяца израильтяне перешли Иордан и расположились станом в Гилгале, на восточной границе города Иерихона;

20 там же Иисус сложил памятник из тех двенадцати камней, что были взяты из Иордана.

21 При этом он сказал израильтянам: «Когда в будущем спросят дети вас, отцов своих: „Что это за камни такие?“,

22 вы расскажете им, как народ израильский посуху перешел Иордан,

23 ведь ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, иссушил Иордан перед вами, чтобы дать вам пройти, как и Красное море иссушил ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, перед нами, чтобы дать нам пройти.

24 Всё это совершил Господь, чтобы все народы земли знали, как велико могущество Его, и чтобы вы сами во все дни жизни вашей благоговели перед ГОСПОДОМ, Богом вашим».

1 AND when all the people had finished passing over the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua,

1 Когда весь народ перешел через Иордан, ГОСПОДЬ сказал Иисусу:

2 Take twelve men from the people, a man out of every tribe,

2 «Отправь двенадцать человек из народа, по одному от каждого колена Израилева,

3 And command them, saying, Take from here out of the midst of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood, twelve stones, and you shall carry them over with you, and lay them in the lodging place where you lodge this night.

3 и вели им взять отсюда, с середины русла Иордана, с того места, где на твердом основании стоят ноги священников, двенадцать камней. Вынесите их и сложите там, где остановитесь сегодня».

4 Then Joshua called the twelve men who were selected from the children of Israel, out of each tribe a man;

4 Призвал Иисус двенадцать израильтян, которые прежде были выбраны, по одному от каждого колена,

5 And Joshua said to them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel;

5 и сказал им: «Выходите на середину Иордана, к ковчегу ГОСПОДА, Бога вашего, и пусть каждый из вас вынесет на плече своем по одному камню, по числу колен Израилевых.

6 That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask you in time to come, saying, What is the meaning of these stones?

6 Камни эти будут знаком, напоминанием для вас, и когда в будущем спросят вас дети ваши: „Что это за камни и что они значат для вас?“,

7 Then you shall tell them, The waters of the Jordan were divided before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when we passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were divided; and these stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel for ever.

7 вы расскажете им, как расступились воды Иордана перед ковчегом Завета ГОСПОДА: лишь только внесли его в Иордан — и они расступились. Эти камни служат израильтянам вечным напоминанием о том».

8 And the children of Israel did as Joshua commanded them, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as the LORD had said to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them to the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

8 Израильтяне сделали всё так, как повелел Иисус: вынесли из Иордана, как сказал ГОСПОДЬ Иисусу, двенадцать камней, по числу колен Израилевых, перенесли их к месту своей стоянки и установили там.

9 And they set up the twelve stones which they had taken out of the midst of the Jordan, where stood the feet of the priests who were bearing the ark of the covenant; and they are there to this day.

9 Иисус же взял двенадцать других камней и поставил их посреди Иордана, на том месте, где стояли священники, несшие ковчег Завета. Камни эти и поныне там.

10 And the priests who bore the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan until everything was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to tell to the people, according to all that Moses had commanded Joshua; and the people made haste and passed over.

10 Священники же стояли с ковчегом посреди Иордана, пока не были исполнены все указания ГОСПОДА, переданные Иисусом народу (так, как и Моисей заповедал Иисусу). Народ между тем поспешно переходил через реку.

11 And when all the people had finished passing over, the ark of the LORD and the priests passed over before the people.

11 Лишь когда все были уже на другой стороне, двинулся ковчег ГОСПОДЕНЬ и священники, они вышли на берег на виду у всего народа.

14 On that very day the LORD exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they had feared Moses, all the days of his life.

14 И возвеличил ГОСПОДЬ в тот день Иисуса в глазах всего народа израильского. И они благоговели перед ним так же, как благоговели перед Моисеем во все дни его жизни.

15 And the LORD said to Joshua,

15 Но прежде чем вынесли ковчег на берег, ГОСПОДЬ сказал Иисусу:

16 Command the priests who bear the ark of the testimony to come up out of the Jordan.

16 «Вели священникам, что несут ковчег со скрижалями Закона, выйти из Иордана».

17 Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come up out of the Jordan.

17 Иисус передал это повеление священникам.

18 And when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD had come up out of the midst of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet rested firm on the dry land, the waters of the Jordan rushed to their place, and overflowed all its banks, as they did before.

19 And the people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the east border of Jericho.

19 Так в десятый день первого месяца израильтяне перешли Иордан и расположились станом в Гилгале, на восточной границе города Иерихона;

20 And those twelve stones which they took out of the Jordan. Joshua set up at Gilgal.

20 там же Иисус сложил памятник из тех двенадцати камней, что были взяты из Иордана.

21 And he said to the children of Israel, When your children shall ask you in time to come, saying, What is the meaning of these stones?

21 При этом он сказал израильтянам: «Когда в будущем спросят дети вас, отцов своих: „Что это за камни такие?“,

22 Then you shall explain them to your children, and say to them, The children of Israel crossed this Jordan on dry land.

22 вы расскажете им, как народ израильский посуху перешел Иордан,

23 For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before them, until they passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us until we passed over;

23 ведь ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, иссушил Иордан перед вами, чтобы дать вам пройти, как и Красное море иссушил ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, перед нами, чтобы дать нам пройти.

24 Всё это совершил Господь, чтобы все народы земли знали, как велико могущество Его, и чтобы вы сами во все дни жизни вашей благоговели перед ГОСПОДОМ, Богом вашим».
