Isaiah

Chapter 59

1 Behold,2005 the LORD's3068 hand3027 is not shortened,7114 that it cannot3808 save;3467 neither3808 his ear241 heavy,3513 that it cannot3808 hear:8085

2 But your iniquities5771 have separated914 between996 you and your God,430 and your sins2403 have hid5641 his face6440 from you, that he will not hear.8085

3 For your hands3709 are defiled1351 with blood,1818 and your fingers676 with iniquity;5771 your lips8193 have spoken1696 lies,8267 your tongue3956 has muttered1897 perverseness.5766

4 None369 calls7121 for justice,6664 nor369 any pleads8199 for truth:530 they trust982 in vanity,8414 and speak1696 lies;7723 they conceive2029 mischief,5999 and bring3205 forth3205 iniquity.205

5 They hatch1234 cockatrice'6848 eggs,1000 and weave707 the spider's5908 web:6980 he that eats398 of their eggs1000 dies,4191 and that which is crushed2116 breaks1234 out into a viper.660

6 Their webs6980 shall not become1961 garments,899 neither3808 shall they cover3680 themselves with their works:4639 their works4639 are works4639 of iniquity,205 and the act6467 of violence2555 is in their hands.3709

7 Their feet7272 run7323 to evil,7451 and they make haste4116 to shed8210 innocent5355 blood:1818 their thoughts4284 are thoughts4284 of iniquity;205 wasting7701 and destruction7667 are in their paths.4546

8 The way1870 of peace7965 they know3045 not; and there is no369 judgment4941 in their goings:4570 they have made them crooked6140 paths:5410 whoever3605 goes1869 therein shall not know3045 peace.7965

9 Therefore5921 3651 is judgment4941 far7368 from us, neither3808 does justice6666 overtake5381 us: we wait6960 for light,216 but behold2009 obscurity;2822 for brightness,5054 but we walk1980 in darkness.653

10 We grope1659 for the wall7023 like the blind,5787 and we grope1659 as if we had no369 eyes:5869 we stumble3782 at noon6672 day as in the night;5399 we are in desolate820 places as dead4191 men.

11 We roar1993 all3605 like bears,1677 and mourn1897 sore like doves:3123 we look6960 for judgment,4941 but there is none;369 for salvation,3444 but it is far7368 off from us.

12 For our transgressions6588 are multiplied7231 before5048 you, and our sins2403 testify6030 against us: for our transgressions6588 are with us; and as for our iniquities,5771 we know3045 them;

13 In transgressing6586 and lying3584 against the LORD,3068 and departing5253 away from our God,430 speaking1696 oppression6233 and revolt,5627 conceiving2029 and uttering1897 from the heart3820 words1697 of falsehood.8267

14 And judgment4941 is turned5253 away backward,268 and justice6666 stands5975 afar7350 off: for truth571 is fallen3782 in the street,7339 and equity5229 cannot3808 3201 enter.935

15 Yes, truth571 fails;5737 and he that departs5493 from evil7451 makes himself a prey:7997 and the LORD3068 saw7200 it, and it displeased7489 5869 him that there was no369 judgment.4941

16 And he saw7200 that there was no369 man,376 and wondered8074 that there was no369 intercessor:6293 therefore his arm2220 brought3467 salvation3467 to him; and his righteousness,6666 it sustained5564 him.

17 For he put3847 on righteousness6666 as a breastplate,8302 and an helmet3553 of salvation3444 on his head;7218 and he put3847 on the garments899 of vengeance5359 for clothing,8516 and was clad5844 with zeal7068 as a cloak.4598

18 According5921 to their deeds,1578 accordingly5922 he will repay,7999 fury2534 to his adversaries,6862 recompense1576 to his enemies;341 to the islands339 he will repay7999 recompense.1576

19 So shall they fear3372 the name8034 of the LORD3068 from the west,4628 and his glory3519 from the rising4217 of the sun.8121 When3588 the enemy6862 shall come935 in like a flood,5104 the Spirit7307 of the LORD3068 shall lift5127 up a standard5127 against him.

20 And the Redeemer1350 shall come935 to Zion,6726 and to them that turn7725 from transgression6588 in Jacob,3290 said5002 the LORD.3068

21 As for me, this2063 is my covenant1285 with them, said559 the LORD;3068 My spirit7307 that is on you, and my words1697 which834 I have put7760 in your mouth,6310 shall not depart4185 out of your mouth,6310 nor out of the mouth6310 of your seed,2233 nor out of the mouth6310 of your seed's2233 seed,2233 said559 the LORD,3068 from now on3254 and for ever.5769

Chapter 59

1 BEHOLD, the LORD'S hand is not so short, that it cannot save; neither is his ear dull that it cannot hear;

2 But it is your iniquities that have separated you and your God; and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

3 For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue mutters wickedness.

4 There is no one who calls for justice, neither is there any one who judges faithfully; they trust in vanity and speak lies; they conceive iniquity and bring forth grief.

5 They hatch adder's eggs, and weave a spider's web; he who eats of their eggs shall die, and those which hatch out will be found to be vipers.

6 Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works; their works are works of iniquity, and acts of violence are in their hands.

7 Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; plunder and destruction are in their paths.

8 The way of peace they know not; and there is no justice in their ways; they have made their paths crooked; whosoever walks in them shall not know peace.

9 Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not overtake us; we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness.

10 We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope like men who have no eyes; we stumble at noonday as in the night; we groan as those who are near death.

11 We all roar like bears, and mourn sore like doves; we look for justice, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us.

12 For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us; our iniquities are with us, and our sins are well known:

13 Transgressing and lying against the LORD, turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and devising in our heart words of falsehood.

14 Judgment is turned backward, and righteousness stands afar off; for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.

15 Yea, truth is hid, and understanding has departed from our mind; the LORD saw that there was no justice, and he was displeased.

16 And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no one to help; therefore his arm brought salvation to him, and his righteousness sustained him.

17 For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing,

18 That he may seek vengeance upon those who hate him, and retribution to his adversaries, and to the islands he will render recompense.

19 So shall they revere the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. For the oppressor shall come in like a flood, and the Spirit of the LORD shall humble him.

20 And a Saviour shall come to Zion, and to those who turn from transgression in Jacob, says the LORD.

21 As for me, this is my covenant with you, says the LORD: my spirit that is upon you, and my words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, nor out of the mouth of your descendants, nor out of the mouth of your descendant's descendants, says the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.
