1 Мужи братья и отцы, выслушайте мою нынешнюю перед вами защиту.

2 Услышав, что он начал свое обращение к ним на еврейском языке, они стали еще тише.

3 И он сказал: я — Иудей, рожденный в Тарсе Киликийском, но воспитанный в этом городе, у ног Гамалиила, наставленный во всей точности отеческого Закона, ревнитель по Боге, как все вы сегодня.

4 На этот Путь я воздвигнул смертельное гонение, заключая в узы и предавая в тюрьмы как мужчин, так и женщин,

5 в чем и первосвященник мне свидетель и весь совет старейшин; получив от них и письма к братьям, я шел в Дамаск с тем, чтобы и там находящихся привести в узах в Иерусалим для наказания.

6 И было со мной, когда я шел и приближался к Дамаску: около полудня внезапно воссиял с неба сильный свет вокруг меня,

7 и я упал на землю и услышал голос, говорящий мне: «Саул, Саул, что ты Меня гонишь?»

8 И я ответил: «кто Ты, Господи?» И Он сказал мне: «Я — Иисус Назорей, Которого ты гонишь».

9 Бывшие со мной свет видели, но голоса Того, Кто мне говорил, не слышали.

10 И я сказал: «что мне делать, Господи?» Господь же сказал мне: «встань и иди в Дамаск и там тебе будет сказано о всём, что назначено тебе делать».

11 И пока я ничего не видел от славы света того, бывшие со мной за руку привели меня в Дамаск.

12 А некий Анания, муж благочестивый по Закону, имеющий доброе свидетельство от всех местных Иудеев,

13 пришел ко мне и, подойдя, сказал мне: «Саул, брат, прозри!» И я в тот же час прозрел и устремил взор на него.

14 А он сказал: «Бог отцов наших предназначил тебя познать волю Его и увидеть Праведного и услышать голос из уст Его,

15 потому что ты будешь свидетелем Ему пред всеми людьми о том, что ты видел и слышал.

16 И теперь, что ты медлишь? Восстав, крестись и смой грехи твои, призвав имя Его».

17 И было со мной по возвращении в Иерусалим, когда я молился в храме: пришел я в исступление

18 и увидел Его, и Он говорил мне: «поспеши и выйди скорее из Иерусалима, потому что не примут твоего свидетельства о Мне».

19 И я сказал: «Господи, они знают, что я заключал в тюрьмы и бил в синагогах верующих в Тебя;

20 и когда проливалась кровь Стефана, свидетеля Твоего, я и сам стоял тут же и сочувствовал и стерег одежды убивавших его».

21 И Он сказал мне: «иди, потому что Я пошлю тебя далеко к язычникам».

22 До этого слова они его слушали, а тогда возвысили голос свой, говоря: долой с земли такого! Нельзя ему жить!

23 И пока они кричали и потрясали одеждами и бросали пыль в воздух,

24 трибун велел ввести его в казарму, сказав подвергнуть его допросу под бичом, чтобы узнать, по какой причине они так кричали на него.

25 Когда же растянули его для бичевания, Павел сказал присутствовавшему сотнику: можно ли вам бичевать человека, Римского гражданина, и не осужденного?

26 Услышав это, сотник явился к трибуну и доложил ему: что ты собираешься делать? Ведь человек этот Римский гражданин.

27 Тогда трибун подошел и сказал ему: скажи мне, ты Римский гражданин? Он сказал: да.

28 И трибун ответил: я за большие деньги приобрел это гражданство. Павел же сказал: а я и родился гражданином.

29 И тотчас же отступили от него собиравшиеся его пытать, а трибун испугался, узнав, что Павел Римский гражданин, а он связал его.

30 На другой день, желая узнать точно, в чем обвиняют его Иудеи, он освободил его от уз и велел собраться первосвященникам и всему синедриону и, приведя Павла, поставил его перед ними.

Chapter 22

1 BRETHREN and fathers, hear my defense which I now make to you.

2 And when they heard him speak to them in the Hebrew tongue (Aramaic), they were the more quiet: And he said,

3 I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Ci-li'cia, yet I was brought up in this city under the care and guidance of Ga-ma'li-el, and trained perfectly according to the law of our fathers, and was zealous toward God, just as you are also.

4 And I persecuted this religion to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

5 The high priest and all the elders can so testify about me, for it was from them that I received letters to go to the brethren at Damascus, to bring those who were there bound to Jerusalem to be punished.

6 And it came to pass as I drew near to Damascus, at about noon, suddenly a great light from heaven shone round about me.

7 And I fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to me, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?

8 And I answered and said, Who are you, my LORD? And he said to me, I am Jesus of Naz'a-reth, whom you persecute.

9 And the men who were with me saw the light, but they did not hear the voice that spoke to me.

10 And I said, What shall I do, my LORD? And our LORD said to me, Arise, and go into Da-mas'cus; and there it shall be told to you all things which are appointed for you to do.

11 And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Da-mas'cus.

12 And a certain man, An-a-ni'as, a righteous man according to the law, as testified by all the Jews concerning him,

13 Came to me and said, My brother Saul, receive your sight. And instantly my eyes were opened and I looked upon him.

14 And he said to me, The God of our fathers has appointed you to know his will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear the voice of his mouth.

15 And you shall be a witness for him before all men, of all that you have seen and heard.

16 And now why do you delay? Arise, and be baptized and wash away your sins calling on the name of the LORD.

17 And it came to pass that when I returned here to Jerusalem and while praying in the temple,

18 I saw a vision, saying to me, Make haste, and get quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive your testimony concerning me.

19 And I said, My LORD, they know that I imprisoned and beat, in every synagogue, those who believed in you:

20 And when the blood of your martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and was in accord with his slayers, and was in charge of the garments of them who stoned him.

21 Then he said to me, Depart: for I will send you afar to preach to the Gentiles.

22 They had given Paul audience up to this word, and then they lifted up their voices, and cried out, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

23 And as they cried out and cast off their robes, and threw dust into the air,

24 The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and ordered that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know for what cause they cried so against him.

25 And when they had bound him with thongs, Paul said to the centurion who stood over him, Is it lawful for you to scourge a Roman citizen who is uncondemned?

26 When the centurion heard that, he went to the chief captain and said, Be careful what you do: for this man is a Roman citizen.

27 Then the captain came and said to him, Tell me, are you a Roman? Paul said, Yes.

28 And the captain answered and said, I obtained Roman citizenship with a great sum of money. Paul answered, But I was free born to it.

29 Immediately those who were ready to scourge him left him alone, and the captain was afraid when he found out that he was a Roman citizen, because he had bound him.

30 The next day, because he desired to know the truthfulness of the charges which the Jews had brought against Paul, he unbound him and commanded the high priests and all their council to appear before him, and he took Paul and brought him down, and set him before them.

3 I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Ci-li'cia, yet I was brought up in this city under the care and guidance of Ga-ma'li-el, and trained perfectly according to the law of our fathers, and was zealous toward God, just as you are also.

4 На этот Путь я воздвигнул смертельное гонение, заключая в узы и предавая в тюрьмы как мужчин, так и женщин,

4 And I persecuted this religion to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

5 в чем и первосвященник мне свидетель и весь совет старейшин; получив от них и письма к братьям, я шел в Дамаск с тем, чтобы и там находящихся привести в узах в Иерусалим для наказания.

5 The high priest and all the elders can so testify about me, for it was from them that I received letters to go to the brethren at Damascus, to bring those who were there bound to Jerusalem to be punished.

6 И было со мной, когда я шел и приближался к Дамаску: около полудня внезапно воссиял с неба сильный свет вокруг меня,

6 And it came to pass as I drew near to Damascus, at about noon, suddenly a great light from heaven shone round about me.

7 и я упал на землю и услышал голос, говорящий мне: «Саул, Саул, что ты Меня гонишь?»

7 And I fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to me, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?

8 И я ответил: «кто Ты, Господи?» И Он сказал мне: «Я — Иисус Назорей, Которого ты гонишь».

8 And I answered and said, Who are you, my LORD? And he said to me, I am Jesus of Naz'a-reth, whom you persecute.

9 Бывшие со мной свет видели, но голоса Того, Кто мне говорил, не слышали.

9 And the men who were with me saw the light, but they did not hear the voice that spoke to me.

10 И я сказал: «что мне делать, Господи?» Господь же сказал мне: «встань и иди в Дамаск и там тебе будет сказано о всём, что назначено тебе делать».

10 And I said, What shall I do, my LORD? And our LORD said to me, Arise, and go into Da-mas'cus; and there it shall be told to you all things which are appointed for you to do.

11 И пока я ничего не видел от славы света того, бывшие со мной за руку привели меня в Дамаск.

11 And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Da-mas'cus.

12 А некий Анания, муж благочестивый по Закону, имеющий доброе свидетельство от всех местных Иудеев,

12 And a certain man, An-a-ni'as, a righteous man according to the law, as testified by all the Jews concerning him,

13 пришел ко мне и, подойдя, сказал мне: «Саул, брат, прозри!» И я в тот же час прозрел и устремил взор на него.

13 Came to me and said, My brother Saul, receive your sight. And instantly my eyes were opened and I looked upon him.

14 А он сказал: «Бог отцов наших предназначил тебя познать волю Его и увидеть Праведного и услышать голос из уст Его,

14 And he said to me, The God of our fathers has appointed you to know his will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear the voice of his mouth.

15 потому что ты будешь свидетелем Ему пред всеми людьми о том, что ты видел и слышал.

15 And you shall be a witness for him before all men, of all that you have seen and heard.

16 И теперь, что ты медлишь? Восстав, крестись и смой грехи твои, призвав имя Его».

16 And now why do you delay? Arise, and be baptized and wash away your sins calling on the name of the LORD.

17 И было со мной по возвращении в Иерусалим, когда я молился в храме: пришел я в исступление

17 And it came to pass that when I returned here to Jerusalem and while praying in the temple,

18 и увидел Его, и Он говорил мне: «поспеши и выйди скорее из Иерусалима, потому что не примут твоего свидетельства о Мне».

18 I saw a vision, saying to me, Make haste, and get quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive your testimony concerning me.

19 И я сказал: «Господи, они знают, что я заключал в тюрьмы и бил в синагогах верующих в Тебя;

20 и когда проливалась кровь Стефана, свидетеля Твоего, я и сам стоял тут же и сочувствовал и стерег одежды убивавших его».

20 And when the blood of your martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and was in accord with his slayers, and was in charge of the garments of them who stoned him.

21 И Он сказал мне: «иди, потому что Я пошлю тебя далеко к язычникам».

21 Then he said to me, Depart: for I will send you afar to preach to the Gentiles.

22 До этого слова они его слушали, а тогда возвысили голос свой, говоря: долой с земли такого! Нельзя ему жить!

22 They had given Paul audience up to this word, and then they lifted up their voices, and cried out, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

23 И пока они кричали и потрясали одеждами и бросали пыль в воздух,

23 And as they cried out and cast off their robes, and threw dust into the air,

24 трибун велел ввести его в казарму, сказав подвергнуть его допросу под бичом, чтобы узнать, по какой причине они так кричали на него.

24 The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and ordered that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know for what cause they cried so against him.

25 Когда же растянули его для бичевания, Павел сказал присутствовавшему сотнику: можно ли вам бичевать человека, Римского гражданина, и не осужденного?

25 And when they had bound him with thongs, Paul said to the centurion who stood over him, Is it lawful for you to scourge a Roman citizen who is uncondemned?

26 Услышав это, сотник явился к трибуну и доложил ему: что ты собираешься делать? Ведь человек этот Римский гражданин.

26 When the centurion heard that, he went to the chief captain and said, Be careful what you do: for this man is a Roman citizen.

27 Тогда трибун подошел и сказал ему: скажи мне, ты Римский гражданин? Он сказал: да.

27 Then the captain came and said to him, Tell me, are you a Roman? Paul said, Yes.

28 И трибун ответил: я за большие деньги приобрел это гражданство. Павел же сказал: а я и родился гражданином.

28 And the captain answered and said, I obtained Roman citizenship with a great sum of money. Paul answered, But I was free born to it.

29 И тотчас же отступили от него собиравшиеся его пытать, а трибун испугался, узнав, что Павел Римский гражданин, а он связал его.

29 Immediately those who were ready to scourge him left him alone, and the captain was afraid when he found out that he was a Roman citizen, because he had bound him.

30 На другой день, желая узнать точно, в чем обвиняют его Иудеи, он освободил его от уз и велел собраться первосвященникам и всему синедриону и, приведя Павла, поставил его перед ними.

30 The next day, because he desired to know the truthfulness of the charges which the Jews had brought against Paul, he unbound him and commanded the high priests and all their council to appear before him, and he took Paul and brought him down, and set him before them.
