Chapter 23

1 AND it came to pass after a long time, when the LORD had given rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua was old, and well advanced in years.

2 And Joshua summoned all Israel, their elders, their heads, their judges, and their scribes, and said to them, I am old and well advanced in years;

3 And you have seen all that the LORD your God has done to all these nations, which he destroyed from before you; for it is the LORD your God who has fought for you.

4 Behold, I have not divided to you the land of these nations that remain, in the inheritance of your tribes; but from the Jordan, all the nations that I have destroyed, even to the Great Sea westward, have I divided among you.

5 The LORD your God will defeat them, and destroy them from before you; and you shall possess their land, as the LORD your God has promised you.

6 Only be strong to keep and do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, the servant of God, and not turn aside from it, neither to the right hand nor to the left;

7 And you shall not mix with these nations that remain among you; neither make mention of the names of their gods, nor swear by them, neither serve them, nor worship them;

8 But cleave to the LORD your God, as you have done even to this day.

9 For the LORD has destroyed from before you great and strong nations; and no man has been able to stand against you to this day.

10 One man of you shall chase a thousand; for the LORD your God is with you, he it is who fights for you, as he has promised you.

11 Take good heed therefore to yourselves, to revere the LORD your God.

12 For if you ever turn back and join the remnant of these nations that remain among you and make marriages with them and mix with them and they with you;

13 Then know for sure that the LORD your God will no more destroy these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps to you, and spears in your sides and fishhooks in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you.

14 And as for me, I am now going the way of all the earth; and you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good promises which the LORD your God spoke concerning you; all have come to pass to you, and not one thing has failed.

15 Therefore, just as all the good things have come upon you which the LORD your God promised, so shall come upon you all the curses, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you;

16 If you should transgress against the covenant of the LORD your God and against the commandments which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and worship them; then shall the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and you shall perish quickly from off the good land which he has given you.

1 І сталося по багатьох днях по то́му, як Господь дав мир Ізраїлеві від усіх їхніх ворогів навко́ло, а Ісус поста́рів, увійшов у літа́,

2 то покликав Ісус усього Ізраїля, його старши́х, і голів його, і суддів його, і урядників його, та й сказав до них: „Я поста́рів, увійшов у літа́.

3 А ви бачили все, що́ зробив був Господь, Бог ваш, усім цим лю́дям для вас, бо Господь, Бог ваш, — Він Той воюючий для вас!

4 Дивіться, — ось я поділи́в вам жеребком цих позосталих людей на спа́док для ваших племен від Йорда́ну, і всі народи, що вигубив я, аж по море Велике, місце за́ходу сонця.

5 А Господь, Бог ваш, — Він пожене їх перед вами, і вижене їх перед вами, і ви посядете їхній край, як говорив був Господь, Бог ваш, до вас.

6 І ви будете дуже сильні, щоб вико́нувати й чинити все, написане в книзі Зако́ну Мойсеєвого, щоб не відхилятися від нього ані право́руч, ані ліво́руч,

7 щоб ви не змішувалися з цими людьми́, цими позосталими з вами, а ім'я́ їхніх богів ви не згадаєте, і не будете заприсягати ними, і не будете служити їм, і не будете вклонятися їм,

8 бо ви бу́дете горнутися тільки до Господа, Бога вашого, як робили ви аж до цього дня.

9 І вигнав Господь перед вами народи великі та сильні, а ви — не встояв ніхто перед вами аж до цього дня.

10 Один чоловік із вас сам жене тисячу, бо Господь, Бог ваш — Він той Воя́к для вас, як говорив був Він вам.

11 І бу́дете ви дуже пильнувати про свої ду́ші, щоб любити Господа, Бога вашого.

12 Бо якщо справді будете ви відверта́тися й приліпитеся до решти цих народів, цих позосталих із вами, і будете сва́татися з ними, і будете змішуватися з ними, а вони з вами,

13 то дійсно будете ви знати, що Господь, Бог ваш, більш не гнатиме ці наро́ди перед вами, і вони стануть для вас сіткою й па́сткою, та батого́м на ваші бо́ки, та те́рням на ваші очі, аж поки ви не ви́гинете з-над цієї доброї землі, яку дав вам Господь, Бог ваш.

14 А я оце сьогодні відхо́джу доро́гою всієї землі. А ви будете знати всім своїм серцем та всією своєю душею, що не відпало ані одне слово зо всіх тих добрих слів, що про вас говорив був Господь, Бог ваш, — усе збуло́ся вам, не відпало з нього ані одне слово.

15 І станеться, ота́к, як збуло́ся вам усе те добре слово, що про вас говорив був Господь, Бог ваш, так наведе́ Господь на вас усе те слово зле, аж поки Він вигубить вас з-над цієї доброї землі, яку вам дав Господь, Бог ваш.

16 Коли ви пересту́пите заповіта Господа, Бога вашого, що Він наказав вам, і пі́дете й будете служити іншим богам, і будете вклонятися їм, то запа́литься гнів Господній на вас, і ви скоро погинете з того хорошого кра́ю, що його́ Він вам дав“.

1 І сталося по багатьох днях по то́му, як Господь дав мир Ізраїлеві від усіх їхніх ворогів навко́ло, а Ісус поста́рів, увійшов у літа́,

2 то покликав Ісус усього Ізраїля, його старши́х, і голів його, і суддів його, і урядників його, та й сказав до них: „Я поста́рів, увійшов у літа́.

3 And you have seen all that the LORD your God has done to all these nations, which he destroyed from before you; for it is the LORD your God who has fought for you.

3 А ви бачили все, що́ зробив був Господь, Бог ваш, усім цим лю́дям для вас, бо Господь, Бог ваш, — Він Той воюючий для вас!

4 Behold, I have not divided to you the land of these nations that remain, in the inheritance of your tribes; but from the Jordan, all the nations that I have destroyed, even to the Great Sea westward, have I divided among you.

4 Дивіться, — ось я поділи́в вам жеребком цих позосталих людей на спа́док для ваших племен від Йорда́ну, і всі народи, що вигубив я, аж по море Велике, місце за́ходу сонця.

5 The LORD your God will defeat them, and destroy them from before you; and you shall possess their land, as the LORD your God has promised you.

5 А Господь, Бог ваш, — Він пожене їх перед вами, і вижене їх перед вами, і ви посядете їхній край, як говорив був Господь, Бог ваш, до вас.

6 Only be strong to keep and do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, the servant of God, and not turn aside from it, neither to the right hand nor to the left;

6 І ви будете дуже сильні, щоб вико́нувати й чинити все, написане в книзі Зако́ну Мойсеєвого, щоб не відхилятися від нього ані право́руч, ані ліво́руч,

7 щоб ви не змішувалися з цими людьми́, цими позосталими з вами, а ім'я́ їхніх богів ви не згадаєте, і не будете заприсягати ними, і не будете служити їм, і не будете вклонятися їм,

8 But cleave to the LORD your God, as you have done even to this day.

8 бо ви бу́дете горнутися тільки до Господа, Бога вашого, як робили ви аж до цього дня.

9 For the LORD has destroyed from before you great and strong nations; and no man has been able to stand against you to this day.

9 І вигнав Господь перед вами народи великі та сильні, а ви — не встояв ніхто перед вами аж до цього дня.

10 One man of you shall chase a thousand; for the LORD your God is with you, he it is who fights for you, as he has promised you.

10 Один чоловік із вас сам жене тисячу, бо Господь, Бог ваш — Він той Воя́к для вас, як говорив був Він вам.

11 Take good heed therefore to yourselves, to revere the LORD your God.

11 І бу́дете ви дуже пильнувати про свої ду́ші, щоб любити Господа, Бога вашого.

12 Бо якщо справді будете ви відверта́тися й приліпитеся до решти цих народів, цих позосталих із вами, і будете сва́татися з ними, і будете змішуватися з ними, а вони з вами,

13 Then know for sure that the LORD your God will no more destroy these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps to you, and spears in your sides and fishhooks in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you.

13 то дійсно будете ви знати, що Господь, Бог ваш, більш не гнатиме ці наро́ди перед вами, і вони стануть для вас сіткою й па́сткою, та батого́м на ваші бо́ки, та те́рням на ваші очі, аж поки ви не ви́гинете з-над цієї доброї землі, яку дав вам Господь, Бог ваш.

14 And as for me, I am now going the way of all the earth; and you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good promises which the LORD your God spoke concerning you; all have come to pass to you, and not one thing has failed.

14 А я оце сьогодні відхо́джу доро́гою всієї землі. А ви будете знати всім своїм серцем та всією своєю душею, що не відпало ані одне слово зо всіх тих добрих слів, що про вас говорив був Господь, Бог ваш, — усе збуло́ся вам, не відпало з нього ані одне слово.

15 Therefore, just as all the good things have come upon you which the LORD your God promised, so shall come upon you all the curses, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you;

15 І станеться, ота́к, як збуло́ся вам усе те добре слово, що про вас говорив був Господь, Бог ваш, так наведе́ Господь на вас усе те слово зле, аж поки Він вигубить вас з-над цієї доброї землі, яку вам дав Господь, Бог ваш.
