Chapter 12

1 EPHRAIM feeds on wind and follows after the tempest all the day long; they have multiplied lies and prey; they have made a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.

2 The LORD has a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; and according to his devices will he recompense him.

3 In the womb he deceived his brother, and by his might he became great in the presence of God;

4 Yea, he prevailed over the angel, he made supplication to him; he found him in Beth-el, and there he spoke with him.

5 Even the LORD the God of hosts has remembered him.

6 Therefore return to your God; keep mercy and justice, and wait for your God continually.

7 The balances of deceit are in the hand of Canaan, he loves to oppress.

8 And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found grief; but all my labors will not be enough to rid me of the sin which I have sinned.

9 I am the LORD your God who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. I will again make you to dwell in tents, as in the days of the solemn feasts.

10 I have spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions and used similitudes by the ministry of the prophets.

11 In Gilead you suffered pain, and in Gilgal you sacrificed bullocks to falsehood; your altars are like dry stalks in a barren field.

12 Jacob fled to the land of Aram, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.

13 And by the prophets the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by the prophets was he preserved.

14 Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly; therefore his blood shall come upon him, and his reproach shall his LORD return to him.

1 Стояли вокруг Меня Ефремляне с лицемерием, и дом Израилев с лестью; но Иуда еще ходил с Богом, и союзу со Всесвятейшим пребывал верен.

2 Ефрем ловит ветер, и гоняется за восточным. Всякий день приумножает ложь и гибель, и вступают в союз с Ассуром, и посылают в Египет масло оливковое.

3 И суд у Иеговы с Иудою. Он накажет Иакова сообразно путям его, воздаст ему по делам его.

4 Во чреве положил он препону брату своему; и в крепости своей боролся с Богом.

5 Боролся с Ангелом, и одолел; плакал, и умолял его; в Вефиле нашел Его, и там Он говорил с нами.

6 Иегова Бог воинств; имя Его - Иегова.

7 И ты обратись к Богу твоему, держись добродетели и правды, и на Бога твоего уповай всегда.

8 Ханаан! в руке у него весы неверные; любит он обижать.

9 И говорит Ефрем: так, обогатился я, собрал себе имение; во всех приобретениях моих не найдут у меня неправедного, что было бы со грехом.

10 А Я, Иегова, Бог твой от самой земли Египетской; Я сделаю, что ты опять будешь сидеть в кущах, как во дни праздника.

11 Я говорил к пророкам, и открывал много видений, и буду посредством пророков говорить притчами.

12 Если Галаад беззаконен; то по истине они сделались самою суетою; тельцов приносят в жертву в Галгале; и жертвенников у них столько, сколько каменных куч на бороздах полей.

13 И убежал Иаков на равнину Арамейскую, и служил Израиль за жену, и пас стада за жену.

14 И чрез пророка Иегова вывел Израиля из Египта, и чрез пророка народ сохранен.
