Chapter 3

1 HEAR this word that the LORD has spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,

2 You only have I known of all the peoples and of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

3 Will two men go on a journey together unless they have made an appointment?

4 Does a lion roar in the forest when he has no prey? Or does a lion cry out of his den if he has taken no prey?

5 Will a bird fall into a snare upon the earth without a hunter? Or can a trap spring up from the ground and catch the prey without being set?

6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people be not afraid? Or shall there be misfortune in a city and the LORD has not done it?

7 Surely the LORD God does nothing without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets.

8 The lion has roared, who will not fear? The LORD God has spoken, who can but prophesy?

9 Proclaim it in the palaces of Ashdod and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountain of Samaria, and see the great tumults in the midst thereof and the oppression which is in it.

10 For they do not know how to reprove, says the LORD, but they store up plunder and spoil in their palaces.

11 Therefore thus says the LORD: A calamity shall surround the land; and its strength shall be brought down, and its palaces shall be spoiled.

12 Thus says the LORD: As the shepherd takes out of the mouth of the lion two legs or a piece of an ear, so shall the children of Israel be delivered who dwell in Samaria, along with the people who dwell in Damascus, by a staff that strikes suddenly.

13 Hear, and testify in the house of Jacob, says the LORD God, the God of hosts of Israel,

14 That in the day that I punish the transgressions of Israel I will also punish the altars of Beth-el; and the horns of the altars shall be cut off and fall to the ground.

15 And I will destroy the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and great houses shall be demolished, says the LORD.

1 Слушайте слово сие, которое Иегова изрек на вас, сыны Израилевы, на все племена, которые вывел Я из земли египетской. Он говорит:

2 Вас только знаю Я пред всеми племенами земли: потому и взыскиваю с вас за все беззакония ваши.

3 Идут ли двое вместе, не согласившись прежде?

4 Ревет ли старый лев в лесу, когда нет у него добычи? Молодой лев подает ли голос свой из логовища своего, когда нечего изловить?

5 Попадет ли птичка в петлю на земле, когда не раскинута для нее сеть? Снимают ли силок с земли, когда ничего не поймано?

6 Трубит ли труба в городе, и народ не встревожится? Бывает ли беда в городе, которую бы не Иегова сделал?

7 Но Господь Иегова ничего не делает, не открыв тайны Своей рабам Своим пророкам.

8 Лев ревет, кто не содрогнется? Господь Иегова говорит, кто не будет пророчествовать?

9 Объявите на чертогах в Азоте, и на чертогах в земле египетской, и скажите: соберитесь на горы Самарии, и посмотрите на великие беспорядки в ней, и на притеснения среди ее

10 И не умеют они поступать справедливо, говорит Иегова; обиду и грабительство копят в чертогах своих.

11 Посему так говорит Господь Иегова: враг, и притом со всех сторон земли! и вынесет из тебя богатство твое, и ограблены будут чертоги твои.

12 Так говорит Иегова: как пастух спасает из львиной пасти ноги две, или край уха, так спасены будут сыны Израилевы, сидящие в Самарии на боках ложа и на Дамасских одрах.

13 Слушайте и объявите в доме Иакова, говорит Господь Иегова, Бог воинств:

14 Ибо в тот день, как Я взгляну на преступления Израилевы, взгляну и на жертвенники Вефильские; и сломятся роги жертвенника, и упадут на землю.

15 И поражу дом зимний и дом летний, и погибнут дома, украшенные слоновым зубом; и исчезнут дома великолепные, говорит Иегова.
