Chapter 23

1 AND Balaam said to Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.

2 And Balak did as Balaam had told him; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.

3 And Balaam said to Balak, Stand here by your burnt offerings, and I will go. Perhaps the LORD will come to meet me; and whatever he shows me I will tell you. So he went away quietly.

4 And God appeared to Balaam and said to him, You have prepared seven altars, and have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.

5 Then the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth and said to him, Return to Balak, and thus you shall speak.

6 And he returned to him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt offerings, he and all the princes of Moab.

7 And he took up his parable and said, Balak the king of the Moabites has brought me from Aram, from the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse Jacob for me, and come, destroy Israel for me.

8 How can I curse whom God has not cursed? How can I destroy whom the LORD has not destroyed?

9 For from the top of the mountains I see him, and from the hills I behold him; lo, the people are dwelling alone and are not reckoned among the nations.

10 Who can count the multitude of the descendants of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my end be like theirs!

11 And Balak said to Balaam, What have you done to me? I called you to curse my enemies, and, behold, you have surely blessed them.

12 And Balaam answered and said, Behold, whatever the LORD puts in my mouth that thing will I speak.

13 And Balak said to him, Come with me to another place, from which you may see them; but you shall see the utmost part of them, and shall not see them all; and curse them for me from thence.

14 And he brought him to the field of watchmen, to the top of the hill, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

15 And Balaam said to Balak, Stand here by your burnt offerings while I go yonder.

16 And the LORD appeared to Balaam and put a word in his mouth and said to him, Go again to Balak and say thus.

17 And when he came to him, he was standing by his burnt offerings, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said to him, What has the LORD spoken?

18 And he took up his parable and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; and give ear to my testimony, O son of Zippor;

19 God is not a man that he should lie; neither the son of man that he should be given counsel; he speaks and he shall do it, and his word abides for ever.

20 Behold, I was brought here to bless; and I cannot reverse the blessing.

21 I do not behold iniquity in Jacob, neither have I seen malice in Israel; the LORD his God is with him, and the glory of his King is among them.

22 God brought them out of Egypt with his might and excellency.

23 For there is no augury in Jacob, neither is there any divination in Israel; according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What has God wrought!

24 Behold, the people shall rise up as a lion and march like a lion; he shall not lie down until he eats the prey and drinks the blood of the slain.

25 Then Balak said to Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.

26 But Balaam answered and said to Balak, Did I not tell you. All that the LORD speaks to me, that very thing I must do?

27 And Balak said to Balaam, Come, I will take you to another place; perhaps it will please God that you may curse them for me from there.

28 Then Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor, that looks toward Ashimon.

29 And Balaam said to Balak, Build me here seven altars and prepare me seven bullocks and seven rams.

30 And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

1 Валаам сказал Валаку: – Построй мне здесь семь жертвенников и приготовь семь быков и семь баранов.

2 Валак сделал, как сказал Валаам, и они вдвоём принесли на каждом жертвеннике по быку и барану.

3 Валаам сказал Валаку: – Стой здесь, у своих всесожжений, а я отойду в сторону. Может быть, Вечный придёт, чтобы встретиться со мной. Всё, что Он мне откроет, я расскажу тебе. И он ушёл на голую вершину.

4 Всевышний явился к нему, и Валаам сказал: – Я приготовил семь жертвенников и на каждом принёс быка и барана.

5 Вечный научил Валаама, что сказать, и велел: – Вернись к Валаку и передай ему это.

6 Он вернулся к нему и нашёл его стоящим возле своих всесожжений со всеми вождями Моава.

7 И Валаам произнёс пророчество:
– Из Сирии привёл меня Валак, царь Моава – от гор восточных:«Приди, прокляни мне Якуба; приди, обреки Исраил на погибель».

8 Как мне проклясть тех, кого Всевышний не проклял?Как на гибель обречь тех, кого Всевышний не обрёк?

9 Я смотрю на них со скальных вершин, я взираю на них с холмов.Вижу народ, который живёт отдельно и не считает себя одним из народов.

10 Кто сможет сосчитать потомков Якуба или хотя бы четвёртую часть Исраила? Их столько, сколько пылинок на земле.Пусть я умру смертью праведных, и пусть будет кончина моя, как у них!

11 Валак сказал Валааму: – Что ты со мной сделал? Я привёл тебя проклясть моих врагов, а ты их благословляешь!

12 Он ответил: – Разве я не должен говорить то, что мне велит Вечный?

13 Тогда Валак сказал ему: – Пойдём со мной в то место, откуда ты сможешь их увидеть. Там ты увидишь только некоторых, не всех. Тогда прокляни их для меня оттуда.

14 Он отвёл его на поле Цофим, на вершине Фасги, построил там семь жертвенников и принёс на каждом быка и барана.

15 Валаам сказал Валаку: – Стой здесь, у своих всесожжений, пока я там встречусь с Вечным.

16 Вечный явился к Валааму, научил его, что сказать, и велел: – Вернись к Валаку и передай ему это.

17 Он пошёл к нему и нашёл его стоящим возле своих всесожжений с вождями Моава. Валак спросил его: – Что сказал Вечный?

18 Тогда Валаам произнёс пророчество:
– Валак, соберись и слушай; внимай мне, сын Циппора.

19 Всевышний – не человек, чтобы лгать, и не смертный, чтобы передумывать.Неужели скажет Он и не сделает, пообещает и не исполнит?

20 Я получил повеление благословлять; благословляет Он – я не могу отменить.

21 Не видно несчастья в Якубе, не заметно беды в Исраиле.С ними Вечный, их Бог, Которого они провозгласили своим Царём.

22 Из Египта их вывел Всевышний; сила их – сила дикого быка.

23 Нет колдовства на Якуба, нет ворожбы на Исраила. Станут теперь говорить о Якубе и об Исраиле: «Вот что Всевышний сотворил!»

24 Как львица, встаёт народ, как лев, он поднимается!Не успокоится он, пока не пожрёт добычу и кровью жертв не напьётся.

25 Тогда Валак сказал Валааму: – Не проклинай их и не благословляй!

26 Валаам ответил: – Разве я не говорил тебе, что должен делать всё, что скажет Вечный?

27 Тогда Валак сказал Валааму: – Пойдём, я отведу тебя в другое место. Может быть, Всевышнему будет угодно, чтобы ты проклял их оттуда.

28 Валак отвёл Валаама на вершину Пеора, обращённую к пустыне. .

29 Валаам сказал Валаку: – Построй мне здесь семь жертвенников и приготовь семь быков и семь баранов.

30 Валак сделал, как сказал Валаам, и принёс на каждом жертвеннике быка и барана.

1 AND Balaam said to Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.	1 Валаам сказал Валаку: – Построй мне здесь семь жертвенников и приготовь семь быков и семь баранов.
2 And Balak did as Balaam had told him; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.	2 Валак сделал, как сказал Валаам, и они вдвоём принесли на каждом жертвеннике по быку и барану.
3 And Balaam said to Balak, Stand here by your burnt offerings, and I will go. Perhaps the LORD will come to meet me; and whatever he shows me I will tell you. So he went away quietly.	3 Валаам сказал Валаку: – Стой здесь, у своих всесожжений, а я отойду в сторону. Может быть, Вечный придёт, чтобы встретиться со мной. Всё, что Он мне откроет, я расскажу тебе. И он ушёл на голую вершину.
4 And God appeared to Balaam and said to him, You have prepared seven altars, and have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.	4 Всевышний явился к нему, и Валаам сказал: – Я приготовил семь жертвенников и на каждом принёс быка и барана.
5 Then the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth and said to him, Return to Balak, and thus you shall speak.	5 Вечный научил Валаама, что сказать, и велел: – Вернись к Валаку и передай ему это.
6 And he returned to him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt offerings, he and all the princes of Moab.	6 Он вернулся к нему и нашёл его стоящим возле своих всесожжений со всеми вождями Моава.
7 And he took up his parable and said, Balak the king of the Moabites has brought me from Aram, from the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse Jacob for me, and come, destroy Israel for me.	7 И Валаам произнёс пророчество: – Из Сирии привёл меня Валак, царь Моава – от гор восточных:«Приди, прокляни мне Якуба; приди, обреки Исраил на погибель».
8 How can I curse whom God has not cursed? How can I destroy whom the LORD has not destroyed?	8 Как мне проклясть тех, кого Всевышний не проклял?Как на гибель обречь тех, кого Всевышний не обрёк?
9 For from the top of the mountains I see him, and from the hills I behold him; lo, the people are dwelling alone and are not reckoned among the nations.	9 Я смотрю на них со скальных вершин, я взираю на них с холмов.Вижу народ, который живёт отдельно и не считает себя одним из народов.

11 And Balak said to Balaam, What have you done to me? I called you to curse my enemies, and, behold, you have surely blessed them.	11 Валак сказал Валааму: – Что ты со мной сделал? Я привёл тебя проклясть моих врагов, а ты их благословляешь!
12 And Balaam answered and said, Behold, whatever the LORD puts in my mouth that thing will I speak.	12 Он ответил: – Разве я не должен говорить то, что мне велит Вечный?
13 And Balak said to him, Come with me to another place, from which you may see them; but you shall see the utmost part of them, and shall not see them all; and curse them for me from thence.	13 Тогда Валак сказал ему: – Пойдём со мной в то место, откуда ты сможешь их увидеть. Там ты увидишь только некоторых, не всех. Тогда прокляни их для меня оттуда.
14 And he brought him to the field of watchmen, to the top of the hill, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.	14 Он отвёл его на поле Цофим, на вершине Фасги, построил там семь жертвенников и принёс на каждом быка и барана.
15 And Balaam said to Balak, Stand here by your burnt offerings while I go yonder.	15 Валаам сказал Валаку: – Стой здесь, у своих всесожжений, пока я там встречусь с Вечным.
16 And the LORD appeared to Balaam and put a word in his mouth and said to him, Go again to Balak and say thus.	16 Вечный явился к Валааму, научил его, что сказать, и велел: – Вернись к Валаку и передай ему это.
17 And when he came to him, he was standing by his burnt offerings, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said to him, What has the LORD spoken?	17 Он пошёл к нему и нашёл его стоящим возле своих всесожжений с вождями Моава. Валак спросил его: – Что сказал Вечный?
18 And he took up his parable and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; and give ear to my testimony, O son of Zippor;	18 Тогда Валаам произнёс пророчество: – Валак, соберись и слушай; внимай мне, сын Циппора.
19 God is not a man that he should lie; neither the son of man that he should be given counsel; he speaks and he shall do it, and his word abides for ever.	19 Всевышний – не человек, чтобы лгать, и не смертный, чтобы передумывать.Неужели скажет Он и не сделает, пообещает и не исполнит?
20 Behold, I was brought here to bless; and I cannot reverse the blessing.	20 Я получил повеление благословлять; благословляет Он – я не могу отменить.
21 I do not behold iniquity in Jacob, neither have I seen malice in Israel; the LORD his God is with him, and the glory of his King is among them.	21 Не видно несчастья в Якубе, не заметно беды в Исраиле.С ними Вечный, их Бог, Которого они провозгласили своим Царём.

23 For there is no augury in Jacob, neither is there any divination in Israel; according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What has God wrought!	23 Нет колдовства на Якуба, нет ворожбы на Исраила. Станут теперь говорить о Якубе и об Исраиле: «Вот что Всевышний сотворил!»
24 Behold, the people shall rise up as a lion and march like a lion; he shall not lie down until he eats the prey and drinks the blood of the slain.	24 Как львица, встаёт народ, как лев, он поднимается!Не успокоится он, пока не пожрёт добычу и кровью жертв не напьётся.
25 Then Balak said to Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.	25 Тогда Валак сказал Валааму: – Не проклинай их и не благословляй!
26 But Balaam answered and said to Balak, Did I not tell you. All that the LORD speaks to me, that very thing I must do?	26 Валаам ответил: – Разве я не говорил тебе, что должен делать всё, что скажет Вечный?
27 And Balak said to Balaam, Come, I will take you to another place; perhaps it will please God that you may curse them for me from there.	27 Тогда Валак сказал Валааму: – Пойдём, я отведу тебя в другое место. Может быть, Всевышнему будет угодно, чтобы ты проклял их оттуда.
