2 Und1121 Ismael3458, der Sohn1121 Nethanjas5418, machte sich auf6965 samt den zehn6235 Männern582, die bei ihm waren, und schlugen5221 Gedalja1436, den Sohn1121 Ahikams296, des Sohns Saphans8227, mit dem Schwert2719 zu Tode4191, darum daß ihn der König4428 zu Babel894 über6485 das Land776 gesetzt hatte.

3 Dazu alle Juden3064 die bei Gedalja1436 waren zu Mizpa4709, und die Chaldäer3778, die sie582 daselbst fanden4672, und alle Kriegsleute4421 schlug5221 Ismael3458.

4 Des andern8145 Tages3117, nachdem Gedalja1436 erschlagen war und noch4191 niemand376 wußte3045,

5 kamen935 achtzig8084 Männer582 von Sichem7927, von Silo7887 und376 von Samaria8111 und hatten die Bärte2206 abgeschoren1548 und ihre Kleider899 zerrissen7167 und sich1413 zerritzt und trugen Speisopfer4503 und Weihrauch3828 mit sich3027, daß sie es brächten935 ins Haus1004 des HErrn3068.

6 Und Ismael3458, der Sohn1121 Nethanjas5418, ging1980 heraus von Mizpa4709, denselbigen entgegen7125, ging1980 daher und weinete. Als er nun an sie1058 kam6298, sprach559 er zu ihnen: Ihr935 sollt zu Gedalja1436, dem Sohn1121 Ahikams296, kommen3318.

7 Da sie aber mitten8432 in8432 die Stadt5892 kamen, ermordete7819 sie Ismael3458, der Sohn1121 Nethanjas5418, und die Männer582, so bei ihm waren935, bei dem Brunnen953.

8 Aber es waren3426 zehn6235. Männer darunter, die sprachen559 zu Ismael3458: Lieber, töte4191 uns nicht; wir582 haben4672 Schätze im8432 Acker7704 liegen von Weizen2406, Gerste8184, Öl8081 und Honig1706. Also ließ er ab2308 und tötete4191 sie nicht mit den andern251.

9 Der Brunnen953 aber, darein Ismael3458 die582 toten Leichname6297 warf7993, welche3027 er5221 hatte erschlagen, samt dem Gedalja1436, ist4390 der, den der König4428 Assa machen6213 ließ wider Baesa1201, den König4428 Israels3478; den füllete Ismael3458, der Sohn1121 Nethanjas5418, mit6440 den Erschlagenen2491.

10 Und was übriges Volks5971 war7617 zu Mizpa4709, auch des Königs4428 Töchter1323, führete Ismael3458, der Sohn1121 Nethanjas, gefangen7617 weg7604 samt allem übrigen7611 Volk5971 zu Mizpa4709, über6485 welche Nebusar-Adan, der Hauptmann7227, hatte gesetzt Gedalja1436, den Sohn1121 Ahikams296; und zog3212 hin5674 und wollte hinüber zu den Kindern Ammon5983.

11 Da aber Johanan3110, der Sohn1121 Kareahs7143, erfuhr8085 und2428 alle Hauptleute8269 des Heers, die bei ihm waren, all das Übel7451, das Ismael3458, der Sohn1121 Nethanjas5418, begangen hatte6213,

12 nahmen3947 sie4672 zu sich alle Männer582 und zogen hin3212 wider Ismael3458, den Sohn1121 Nethanjas5418, zu streiten3898, und trafen ihn an bei dem großen7227 Wasser4325 an Gibeon1391.

13 Da nun alles Volk5971, so bei Ismael3458 war, sah7200 den Johanan3110, den Sohn1121 Kareahs7143, und2428 alle die Hauptleute8269 des Heers, die bei ihm waren, wurden sie froh8055.

14 Und7617 das ganze Volk5971, das Ismael3458 hatte von Mizpa4709 weggeführet, wandte sich3212 um5437 und kehrete wiederum7725 zu Johanan3110, dem Sohn1121 Kareahs7143.

15 Aber Ismael3458, der Sohn1121 Nethanjas5418, entrann4422 dem Johanan3110 mit6440 acht8083 Männern582 und zog3212 zu den Kindern Ammon5983.

16 Und2428 Johanan3110, der1397 Sohn1121 Kareahs7143, samt allen Hauptleuten8269 des Heers, so bei ihm waren310, nahmen3947 all das übrige Volk5971, so sie582 wiedergebracht7725 hatten von Ismael3458, dem Sohn1121 Nethanjas5418, aus Mizpa4709 zu sich (weil Gedalja1436, der Sohn Ahikams296, erschlagen5221 war7611), nämlich die Kriegsmänner, Weiber802 und Kinder1121 und Kämmerer5631, so sie von Gibeon1391 hatten wiedergebracht7725,

17 und zogen3212 hin3212 und kehreten ein3427 zum Kimham zur Herberge1628, der bei681 Bethlehem1035 wohnete, und wollten nach Ägypten4714 ziehen935 vor den Chaldäern.

18 Denn sie fürchteten3372 sich vor6440 ihnen, weil Ismael3458, der Sohn1121 Nethanjas5418, Gedalja1436, den Sohn1121 Ahikams296, erschlagen5221 hatte, den der König4428 zu Babel894 über6485 das Land776 gesetzt hatte.

Chapter 41

1 NOW it came to pass in the seventh month that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and the princes of the king, and twenty men with him came to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and there they did eat bread together in Mizpah.

2 Then Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the twenty men who were with him rose up and smote Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and slew him whom the king of Babylon had appointed governor over the land of Judah.

3 Ishmael also slew all the Jews who were with Gedaliah at Mizpah and the Chaldeans who were found there and the men of war.

4 And it came to pass the second day after Gedaliah had been slain, and no man had heard of it,

5 That there came certain men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, eighty men, agitated, having their beards shaven and their clothes torn, carrying offerings and incense to bring them to the house of the LORD.

6 And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went; and as he met them, he said to them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.

7 And when they came into the city, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the men who were with him slew them and cast them into a pit.

8 But ten men were found among them who said to Ishmael, Do not kill us; for we have in the field stores of wheat and of barley and of oil and honey. So he spared their lives, and did not slay them with their brethren.

9 Now the pit into which Ishmael cast all dead bodies of the men whom he had slain with Gedaliah was the same pit which Asa the king of Judah had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel; that same pit Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled with the slain.

10 Then Ishmael carried away captive all the rest of the people that were in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the general of the guard had entrusted to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam; Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive and departed to cross over to the Ammonites.

11 But when Johanan the son of Kareah and all the generals of the forces who were with him heard of all the booty that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had carried away,

12 They took all the men and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are in Gibeon.

13 Now it carne to pass when all the people who were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces that were with him, then they rejoiced.

14 So all the people whom Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah turned back and came to Johanan the son of Kareah.

15 But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men and went to the Ammonites.

16 Then Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces that were with him took all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, and carried away the men of war, the women and the children and the eunuchs whom he had brought back from Gibeon;

17 And they departed and dwelt at the threshing floors of Bimham, which is by the side of Bethlehem, to go into Egypt

18 Because of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.
