1 А оце зако́ни, що ти викладеш перед ними:

2 Коли купиш єврейського раба, нехай він працює шість років, а сьомого нехай вийде да́рмо на волю.

3 Якщо при́йде він сам один, нехай сам один і вийде; коли він має жінку, то з ним вийде й жінка його.

4 Якщо пан його дасть йому жінку, і вона породить йому синів або дочо́к, — та жінка та діти її нехай будуть для пана її, а він нехай вийде сам один.

5 А якщо раб той щиро скаже: „Полюбив я пана свого, жінку свою та дітей своїх, — не вийду на волю“,

6 то нехай його пан приведе́ його до суддів, і підведе його до дверей або до бічни́х одві́рків, та й проколе пан його вухо йому шилом, — і він буде робити йому повіки!

7 А коли хто продасть дочку́ свою на неві́льницю, — не вийде вона, як виходять раби.

8 Якщо вона невгодна в оча́х свого пана, який призна́чив був її собі, то нехай позволить її викупити. Не вільно йому продати її до народу чужого, коли зрадить її.

9 А якщо призна́чить її для сина свого, то зробить їй за правом дочо́к.

10 Якщо візьме собі іншу, то не зменшить поживи їй, одежі їй і подру́жнього пожиття́ їй.

11 А коли він цих трьох речей не робитиме їй, то вона вийде да́рмо, без о́купу.

12 Хто вдарить люди́ну, і вона вмре, той конче буде забитий.

13 А хто не чатува́в, а Бог підвів кого в його руку, то дам тобі місце, куди той утече.

14 А коли хто буде замишляти на ближнього свого, щоб забити його з хитрістю, — ві́зьмеш його від же́ртівника Мого на смерть.

15 А хто вдарить батька свого чи матір свою, той конче буде забитий.

16 А хто вкраде люди́ну і продасть її, або буде вона зна́йдена в руках його, той конче буде забитий.

17 І хто проклинає батька свого чи свою матір, той конче буде забитий.

18 А коли будуть свари́тися люди, і вдарить один о́дного ка́менем або кулаком, і той не вмре, а зляже на посте́лю,

19 якщо встане й буде проходжуватися надворі з опертям своїм, то буде оправданий той, хто вдарив, тільки нехай дасть за прогаяння ча́су його та справді вилікує.

20 А коли хто вдарить раба свого або невільницю свою києм, а той помре під рукою його, то конче буде покараний той.

21 Тільки якщо той переживе день або два дні, то не буде покараний, бо він — його гроші.

22 А коли будуть битися люди, і вдарять вагі́тну жінку, і скине вона дитину, а іншого нещастя не станеться, то конче буде покараний, я́к покладе на нього чоловік тієї жінки, і він дасть за присудом суддів.

23 А якщо станеться нещастя, то даси ду́шу за ду́шу,

24 око за око, зуба за зуба, руку за руку, ногу за ногу,

25 опа́рення за опарення, рану за рану, синяка за синяка.

26 А коли хто вдарить в око раба свого, або в око невільниці своєї, і знищить його, той на волю відпустить його за око його.

27 А якщо виб'є зуба раба свого, або зуба невільниці своєї, той на волю відпустить того за зуба його.

32 Коли вдарить той віл раба або невільницю, то власник дасть панові того тридцять шеклів срібла, а віл той буде вкамено́ваний.

33 А коли хто розкриє яму, або викопає яму й не закриє її, і впаде́ туди віл або осел,

34 власник ями відшкодує, — верне гроші власникові його, а загинуле буде йому.

35 А коли чийсь віл ударить вола його ближнього, і згине той, то продадуть вола живого, а гроші за нього поділять пополови́ні, і також загинулого поділять пополови́ні.

36 А коли буде відо́ме, що віл був битли́вим і вчо́ра й третього дня, а власник його не пильнував його, то конче нехай відшкоду́є вола за того вола, а забитий буде йому.

37 Коли хто вкраде вола або овечку, і заріже його або продасть його, то відшкодує п'ять штук великої худоби за вола того, а чотири дрібної худоби за ту овечку.

Chapter 21

1 NOW these are the judgments which you shall set before them.

2 When you buy a Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve you; and in the seventh year he shall go out free from your house without price.

3 If he came in single, he shall go out single; if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him.

4 If his master has given him a wife and she has borne him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be his master's and he shall go out alone.

5 And if the servant shall say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free;

6 Then his master shall bring him to the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or to the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him for ever.

7 And when a man sells his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out free as the menservants do.

8 If her master hates her, so that he will not take her to himself as a wife, then he shall let her be redeemed; he shall have no authority to sell her to a foreign people, because he has dealt deceitfully with her.

9 And if he takes her for wife to his son, then he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters.

10 If he takes to himself another wife, he shall not diminish her food, her clothes, and her conjugal rights.

11 And if be does not these three things to her, then she shall go out free without price.

12 He who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death.

13 But if he did not lie in wait for him, but God delivered him into his hand, then I will appoint for you a place to which he may flee.

14 But if a man ventures to attack his neighbor and slay him treacherously, you shall take him even from my altar to put him to death.

15 He who strikes his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

16 He who steals a person and sells him, or he is found in his possession, he shall surely be put to death.

17 He who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

18 And if two men quarrel, and one strikes another with a stone or with his fist, and he does not die but is put to bed from the injury:

19 If he rises again and walks in the street with his staff, then the one who struck him shall be acquitted, except that he shall pay for the loss of his time and the physician's fee.

20 And if a man strikes his servant, or his maid with a staff, and he dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished.

21 But if the victim is well after a day or two, he shall not be punished; for he is his property.

22 If two men quarrel, and strike a woman with child so that she miscarries, and yet no mischief follow; he shall surely pay a fine such as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

23 But if any mischief follow, then you shall give life for life,

24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, slap for slap.

26 land if a man strike the eye of his servant or the eye of his maid, and injure it, he shall let him go free for his eye's sake.

27 And if he knocks out the tooth of his manservant or the tooth of his maidservant, he must let him go free for his tooth's sake.

28 If an ox gores a man or a woman that he or she die; then the ox shall be surely stoned and its meat shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be blameless.

29 But if the ox were known to be in the habit of goring in the past, and its owner has been warned, and he has not kept it in, and it kills a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and its owner also shall be put to death.

30 But if a sum of money is imposed on him, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatever they ask from him.

31 Whether the ox has gored a son or a daughter, according to this judgment it shall be done to him.

32 If the ox gores a manservant or a maidservant, the owner shall give to their master thirty shekels of silver and the ox shall be stoned.

33 And if a man shall open a wheat pit or a man shall dig a well, and not cover them, and an ox or an ass fall into it;

34 The owner of the pit shall pay money to the owner of the animal, and the dead animal shall be his.

35 And if one man's ox gores another man's ox so that it dies; then they shall sell the live ox and divide the money; and the dead ox also they shall divide.

36 But if it be known that the ox has been in the habit of goring, and his owner has not kept it in; he shall surely pay ox for ox; and the dead animal shall belong to him.

4 If his master has given him a wife and she has borne him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be his master's and he shall go out alone.

5 And if the servant shall say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free;

6 Then his master shall bring him to the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or to the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him for ever.

7 А коли хто продасть дочку́ свою на неві́льницю, — не вийде вона, як виходять раби.

7 And when a man sells his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out free as the menservants do.

8 Якщо вона невгодна в оча́х свого пана, який призна́чив був її собі, то нехай позволить її викупити. Не вільно йому продати її до народу чужого, коли зрадить її.

8 If her master hates her, so that he will not take her to himself as a wife, then he shall let her be redeemed; he shall have no authority to sell her to a foreign people, because he has dealt deceitfully with her.

9 А якщо призна́чить її для сина свого, то зробить їй за правом дочо́к.

9 And if he takes her for wife to his son, then he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters.

10 Якщо візьме собі іншу, то не зменшить поживи їй, одежі їй і подру́жнього пожиття́ їй.

10 If he takes to himself another wife, he shall not diminish her food, her clothes, and her conjugal rights.

11 А коли він цих трьох речей не робитиме їй, то вона вийде да́рмо, без о́купу.

11 And if be does not these three things to her, then she shall go out free without price.

12 Хто вдарить люди́ну, і вона вмре, той конче буде забитий.

12 He who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death.

13 А хто не чатува́в, а Бог підвів кого в його руку, то дам тобі місце, куди той утече.

13 But if he did not lie in wait for him, but God delivered him into his hand, then I will appoint for you a place to which he may flee.

14 А коли хто буде замишляти на ближнього свого, щоб забити його з хитрістю, — ві́зьмеш його від же́ртівника Мого на смерть.

14 But if a man ventures to attack his neighbor and slay him treacherously, you shall take him even from my altar to put him to death.

15 А хто вдарить батька свого чи матір свою, той конче буде забитий.

15 He who strikes his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

16 А хто вкраде люди́ну і продасть її, або буде вона зна́йдена в руках його, той конче буде забитий.

16 He who steals a person and sells him, or he is found in his possession, he shall surely be put to death.

17 І хто проклинає батька свого чи свою матір, той конче буде забитий.

17 He who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

18 А коли будуть свари́тися люди, і вдарить один о́дного ка́менем або кулаком, і той не вмре, а зляже на посте́лю,

18 And if two men quarrel, and one strikes another with a stone or with his fist, and he does not die but is put to bed from the injury:

19 якщо встане й буде проходжуватися надворі з опертям своїм, то буде оправданий той, хто вдарив, тільки нехай дасть за прогаяння ча́су його та справді вилікує.

19 If he rises again and walks in the street with his staff, then the one who struck him shall be acquitted, except that he shall pay for the loss of his time and the physician's fee.

20 А коли хто вдарить раба свого або невільницю свою києм, а той помре під рукою його, то конче буде покараний той.

20 And if a man strikes his servant, or his maid with a staff, and he dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished.

21 Тільки якщо той переживе день або два дні, то не буде покараний, бо він — його гроші.

21 But if the victim is well after a day or two, he shall not be punished; for he is his property.

22 А коли будуть битися люди, і вдарять вагі́тну жінку, і скине вона дитину, а іншого нещастя не станеться, то конче буде покараний, я́к покладе на нього чоловік тієї жінки, і він дасть за присудом суддів.

22 If two men quarrel, and strike a woman with child so that she miscarries, and yet no mischief follow; he shall surely pay a fine such as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

23 А якщо станеться нещастя, то даси ду́шу за ду́шу,

23 But if any mischief follow, then you shall give life for life,

24 око за око, зуба за зуба, руку за руку, ногу за ногу,

24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

28 А коли віл ударить чоловіка або жінку, а той умре, конче буде вкамено́ваний той віл, і м'ясо його не буде їджене, а власник того вола невинний.

28 If an ox gores a man or a woman that he or she die; then the ox shall be surely stoned and its meat shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be blameless.

29 But if the ox were known to be in the habit of goring in the past, and its owner has been warned, and he has not kept it in, and it kills a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and its owner also shall be put to death.
