1 После этого народ ушёл из Асирофа, отправился в пустыню Фаран и там поставил свой стан.

2 Тогда Господь сказал Моисею:

3 «Пошли несколько человек, чтобы они обследовали Ханаанскую страну, которую Я даю израильскому народу. Пошли по одному вождю от каждого из двенадцати родов».

4 Моисей исполнил повеление Господа и отправил вперёд вождей, народ же тем временем оставался в стане, в пустыне Фаран.

5 Вот имена тех вождей: из рода Рувима — Шаммуй, сын Закхура,

6 из рода Симеона — Сафат, сын Хория,

7 из рода Иуды — Халев, сын Иефоннии,

8 из рода Иссахара — Игал, сын Иосифа,

9 из рода Ефрема — Осия, сын Навина,

10 из рода Вениамина — Фалтий, сын Рафуя,

11 из рода Завулона — Гаддиил, сын Содия,

12 из рода Иосифа, от Манассии, — Гаддий, сын Сусия,

13 из рода Дана — Аммиил, сын Гемаллия,

14 из рода Асира — Сефур, сын Михаила,

15 из рода Неффалима — Нахбий, сын Вофсия,

16 из рода Гада — Геуил, сын Махия.

17 Вот имена тех, кого Моисей послал разузнать о той земле. Моисей назвал Осию, сына Навина, Иисусом.

18 Посылая их обследовать Ханаан, Моисей наказал им: «Пройдите через Негев, поднимитесь в горы,

19 посмотрите, что там за земля, разузнайте, какой там живёт народ: сильный или слабый, многочисленный или малочисленный.

20 Разузнайте о земле, на которой они живут: хорошая она или плохая, в каких городах они живут, есть ли вокруг городов крепостные стены и хорошо ли они защищены.

21 Разузнайте, плодородная ли там почва и есть ли там деревья, и принесите назад плоды той земли». Всё это происходило во время созревания первого урожая винограда.

22 Посланцы отправились в ту землю и обследовали местность от пустыни Син до Рехова, близ Лево-Емафа.

23 Придя в ту землю через Негев, они дошли до Хеврона, города, где жили Ахиман, Шешай и Фалмай, потомки Енака. Этот город был построен на семь лет раньше города Цоан в Египте.

24 Затем они пошли в долину Эшкол, срезали там с виноградной лозы ветвь, на которой была кисть винограда, и привязали ветвь к шесту. Два человека несли её; они также взяли с собой гранаты и фиги.

25 То место называлось долиной Эшкол, потому что там израильтяне срезали виноградную кисть.

26 Сорок дней они обследовали страну, а потом возвратились в стан.

27 Народ поставил стан у Кадеса, в пустыне Фаран. Затем посланцы пошли к Моисею и Аарону и ко всему израильскому народу, рассказали им об увиденном и показали плоды той земли.

28 «Мы пошли в ту землю, куда ты послал нас, — сказали они Моисею. — В этой земле всего в изобилии, и вот какие там растут плоды.

29 Но народ, живущий там, силён, города хорошо укреплены и охраняются весьма надёжно, и мы видели там даже енакитян.

30 В Негеве живут амаликитяне, хеттеи, в горах живут иевусеи и аморреи, а около моря и у реки Иордан живут хананеи».

31 Халев стал успокаивать окружавший Моисея народ, а потом сказал: «Пойдём и захватим эту землю для себя. Нам не составит большого труда её захватить».

32 Но ходившие с ним сказали: «Мы не можем бороться с этим народом — он намного сильнее нас!»

33 Посланцы также сказали, что израильский народ недостаточно силён, чтобы одолеть народ той земли. «В земле, которую мы обследовали, живёт множество могучих людей, — сказали они. — Они очень сильны и легко одолеют любого, кто придёт туда.

34 Мы видели там исполинов, от которых произошли потомки Енака, и они смотрели на нас как на кузнечиков. Да, мы были перед ними словно кузнечики!»

1 THE LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

2 Send men that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel; of every tribe of their fathers shall you send a man, every one a chief among them.

3 And Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran by the commandment of the LORD; all of those men were chieftains of the children of Israel.

4 And these were their names: from the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.

5 From the tribe of Simeon, Shaft the son of Hadi.

6 From the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jophaniah.

7 From the tribe of Issachar, Negail the son of Joseph.

8 From the tribe of Ephraim, Hosea the son of Nun.

9 From the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Daphu.

10 From the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddi the son of Sori.

11 From the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.

12 From the tribe of Dan, Gamaliel the son of Gamli.

13 From the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.

14 From the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.

15 From the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machir.

16 These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hosea, the son of Nun, Joshua.

17 And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, Go up this way into the south, and go up on the mountain

18 And see what the land is, and the people who dwell in it, whether they are strong or weak, few or many;

19 And what the land is, in which they dwell, whether it is fertile, or poor, or whether it has trees in it or not.

20 Be of good courage, and bring some of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the season of the first ripe grapes.

21 So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, which is at the entrance of Hamath.

22 And they went up into the south, and came as far as Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Tolmai, the sons of giants were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

23 And they came as far as the valley of Segola, and cut down from there a branch with one bunch of grapes, and they carried it between two of them on a pole; and they brought some pomegranates and some figs.

24 That place was called the valley of Segola, because of the bunch of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from there.

25 And they returned from spying out the land after forty days.

26 And they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Rakim; and they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.

27 And they related to Moses, and said, We went to the land to which you sent us, and surely it flows with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

28 Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very great: and moreover we saw the sons of giants there.

29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south; and the Hittites and the Jebusites and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and by the banks of Jordan.

30 Then Caleb stilled the people before Moses and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

31 But the men who went up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.

32 And they brought up to the children of Israel an evil report of the land which they had spied out, saying, The land through which we have gone to spy out is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

33 There we saw giants, the sons of giants, the descendants of giants; and we were in their sight like grasshoppers, and so we were in their eyes.

17 And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, Go up this way into the south, and go up on the mountain

18 And see what the land is, and the people who dwell in it, whether they are strong or weak, few or many;

19 посмотрите, что там за земля, разузнайте, какой там живёт народ: сильный или слабый, многочисленный или малочисленный.

19 And what the land is, in which they dwell, whether it is fertile, or poor, or whether it has trees in it or not.

20 Разузнайте о земле, на которой они живут: хорошая она или плохая, в каких городах они живут, есть ли вокруг городов крепостные стены и хорошо ли они защищены.

20 Be of good courage, and bring some of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the season of the first ripe grapes.

21 So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, which is at the entrance of Hamath.

23 And they came as far as the valley of Segola, and cut down from there a branch with one bunch of grapes, and they carried it between two of them on a pole; and they brought some pomegranates and some figs.

24 That place was called the valley of Segola, because of the bunch of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from there.

25 То место называлось долиной Эшкол, потому что там израильтяне срезали виноградную кисть.

25 And they returned from spying out the land after forty days.

26 Сорок дней они обследовали страну, а потом возвратились в стан.

26 And they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Rakim; and they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.

27 Народ поставил стан у Кадеса, в пустыне Фаран. Затем посланцы пошли к Моисею и Аарону и ко всему израильскому народу, рассказали им об увиденном и показали плоды той земли.

27 And they related to Moses, and said, We went to the land to which you sent us, and surely it flows with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

28 «Мы пошли в ту землю, куда ты послал нас, — сказали они Моисею. — В этой земле всего в изобилии, и вот какие там растут плоды.

28 Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very great: and moreover we saw the sons of giants there.

29 Но народ, живущий там, силён, города хорошо укреплены и охраняются весьма надёжно, и мы видели там даже енакитян.

29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south; and the Hittites and the Jebusites and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and by the banks of Jordan.

30 В Негеве живут амаликитяне, хеттеи, в горах живут иевусеи и аморреи, а около моря и у реки Иордан живут хананеи».

30 Then Caleb stilled the people before Moses and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

31 Халев стал успокаивать окружавший Моисея народ, а потом сказал: «Пойдём и захватим эту землю для себя. Нам не составит большого труда её захватить».

31 But the men who went up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.

32 Но ходившие с ним сказали: «Мы не можем бороться с этим народом — он намного сильнее нас!»
