Глава 5

1 Царь Велтасар устроил большое пиршество для тысячи своих вельмож и пил с ними вино.

2 В то время, когда царь Велтасар пил вино, он приказал своим слугам принести золотые и серебряные чаши. Это были чаши, которые его дед Навуходоносор вынес из храма в Иерусалиме. Царь Велтасар хотел, чтобы его вельможи, жёны и наложницы пили из них.

3 Тогда слуги принесли золотые сосуды, которые были вынесены из храма Божьего в Иерусалиме, и царь, его вельможи, жёны и наложницы пили из них.

6 Царь Велтасар был очень напуган. Его лицо побелело от страха, колени задрожали, и он не мог встать, потому что его ноги ослабели.

7 Царь позвал к себе чародеев, халдеев и мудрецов и сказал им: «Я награжу любого, кто сможет прочесть эти письмена и объяснить их значение. Я дам багряницу этому человеку и надену ему на шею золотую цепь. Я сделаю его третьим властелином в царстве».

8 Когда пришли все царские мудрецы, они не смогли прочесть написанное и понять, что оно означает.

9 Вельможи царя Велтасара были обеспокоены. Страх царя рос, он изменился в лице и становился всё более взволнованным.

10 Услышав голоса царя и его приближённых, на пир пришла мать царя и сказала: «О, царь, живи вовеки! Не бойся! Не бледней от страха!

11 В твоём царстве есть человек, в котором дух святых богов. В дни царствования твоего отца этот человек показал, что умеет разгадывать тайны. Он показал свой разум и мудрость и доказал, что они подобны мудрости богов. Твой дед, царь Навуходоносор, поставил этого человека главой над мудрецами, халдеями и чародеями.

12 Имя этого человека Даниил, но царь переименовал его в Валтасара. Он очень умён и очень много знает. Он умел толковать сны, объяснять тайны и разрешать очень трудные задачи. Позови Даниила, и он расскажет тебе, что означают письмена на стене».

13 Когда Даниила привели к царю, царь сказал ему: «Твоё имя Даниил? Ты один из пленных, которых царь привёл из Иудеи?

14 Я слышал, что в тебе дух богов, что ты очень умён и понимаешь тайны.

15 Ко мне приводили мудрецов и чародеев прочитать письмена на стене. Я хотел, чтобы они объяснили мне, что означают эти письмена, но они не могли объяснить мне этого.

16 Я слышал о тебе и о том, что ты умеешь объяснить всё и можешь разгадать самые трудные загадки. Если ты сможешь прочитать эти письмена на стене и объяснить мне их значение, я дам тебе багряницу и надену золотую цепь тебе на шею, и тогда ты станешь третьим по важности правителем в царстве».

17 Тогда Даниил ответил царю: «Царь Велтасар, оставь себе свои дары или отдай эти награды кому-нибудь другому. Я и так прочту для тебя письмена на стене и объясню их значение.

18 Царь, Всемогущий Бог сделал твоего деда Навуходоносора великим и могущественным царём, а также дал ему несметные богатства.

19 Много разных народов и людей, говорящих на многих языках, трепетали перед Навуходоносором, потому что Всемогущий Бог возвысил его. Навуходоносор убивал и миловал по своему желанию; он также возвышал и унижал, кого хотел.

20 Но Навуходоносор возгордился и стал упрям, и власть была отнята у него. Он был свергнут с царского престола и лишён славы.

21 Навуходоносор был изгнан от людей, и его разум стал подобен звериному. Он жил с дикими ослами и ел траву как вол; его орошала роса. Всё это происходило с ним до тех пор, пока он не познал, что Всевышний Бог правит царствами и Бог Всевышний ставит над ними того, кого пожелает.

22 Но ты, Велтасар, ты уже знал всё это! Ты внук Навуходоносора, но ты не смирил себя.

23 Вместо того чтобы смириться, ты обратился против Господа на небесах. Ты приказал принести себе чаши из храма Господа, а потом ты и твои приближённые, ваши жёны и наложницы пили вино из этих чаш. Ты славил богов серебряных, золотых, бронзовых, железных, деревянных и каменных. Они и не боги-то вовсе, они не видят, не слышат и ничего не понимают. Однако ты не почитал Бога, Который имеет власть над твоей жизнью и всем тем, что ты делаешь.

24 Вот поэтому Бог послал эту руку, которая писала на стене.

25 Вот какие слова начертаны на ней: Мене, Мене, Текел, Упарсин.

26 А вот что означают эти слова: Мене: Бог сосчитал дни до конца твоего царства.

27 Текел: Тебя взвесили на весах и оказалось, что ты недостоин.

28 Упарсин: Ты потеряешь своё царство, и будет оно разделено между мидянами и персами».

29 Тогда Велтасар отдал приказ одеть Даниила в багряницу, а на его шею надеть золотую цепь, и провозгласил его третьим по важности правителем в царстве.

30 В ту же самую ночь Велтасар, царь Вавилона, был убит.

31 Новым царём стал Дарий мидянин, которому в то время было около шестидесяти двух лет.

2 Belshazzar,1113 whiles he tasted2942 the wine,2562 commanded560 to bring858 the golden1722 and silver3702 vessels3984 which1768 his father2 Nebuchadnezzar5020 had taken5312 out of the temple1965 which1768 was in Jerusalem;3390 that the king,4430 and his princes,7261 his wives,7695 and his concubines,3904 might drink8355 therein.

3 Then116 they brought858 the golden1722 vessels3984 that were taken5312 out of the temple1965 of the house1005 of God426 which1768 was at Jerusalem;3390 and the king,4430 and his princes,7261 his wives,7695 and his concubines,3904 drank8355 in them.

4 They drank8355 wine,2562 and praised7624 the gods426 of gold,1722 and of silver,3702 of brass,5174 of iron,6523 of wood,636 and of stone.69

5 In the same hour8160 came5312 forth5312 fingers677 of a man's606 hand,3028 and wrote3790 over6903 against6903 the candlestick5043 on the plaster1528 of the wall3797 of the king's4430 palace:1965 and the king4430 saw2370 the part6447 of the hand3028 that wrote.3790

6 Then116 the king's4430 countenance2122 was changed,8133 and his thoughts7476 troubled927 him, so that the joints7001 of his loins2783 were loosed,8271 and his knees755 smote5368 one1668 against another.1668

7 The king4430 cried7123 aloud2429 to bring5924 in the astrologers,826 the Chaldeans,3779 and the soothsayers.1505 And the king4430 spoke,6032 and said560 to the wise2445 men of Babylon,895 Whoever3605 shall read7123 this1836 writing,3792 and show2324 me the interpretation6591 thereof, shall be clothed3848 with scarlet,711 and have a chain2002 of gold1722 about5922 his neck,6676 and shall be the third8523 ruler7981 in the kingdom.4437

8 Then116 came5954 in all3606 the king's4430 wise2445 men: but they could3546 not read7123 the writing,3792 nor make known3046 to the king4430 the interpretation6591 thereof.

9 Then116 was king4430 Belshazzar1113 greatly7690 troubled,927 and his countenance2122 was changed8133 in him, and his lords7261 were astonished.7672

10 Now the queen4433 by reason6903 of the words4406 of the king4430 and his lords7261 came5954 into the banquet4961 house:1005 and the queen4433 spoke6032 and said,560 O king,4430 live2418 for ever:5957 let not your thoughts7476 trouble927 you, nor408 let your countenance2122 be changed:8133

11 There is a man1400 in your kingdom,4437 in whom1768 is the spirit7308 of the holy6922 gods;426 and in the days3118 of your father2 light5094 and understanding7924 and wisdom,2452 like the wisdom2452 of the gods,426 was found7912 in him; whom the king4430 Nebuchadnezzar5020 your father,2 the king,4430 I say, your father,2 made master7229 of the magicians,2749 astrologers,826 Chaldeans,3779 and soothsayers;1505

12 For as much3606 as an excellent3493 spirit,7308 and knowledge,998 and understanding,7924 interpreting6591 of dreams,2493 and showing263 of hard280 sentences,280 and dissolving8271 of doubts,7001 were found7912 in the same Daniel,1841 whom1768 the king4430 named8036 Belteshazzar:1096 now3705 let Daniel1841 be called,7123 and he will show2324 the interpretation.6591

13 Then116 was Daniel1841 brought5954 in before6925 the king.4430 And the king4430 spoke6032 and said560 to Daniel,1841 Are you that Daniel,1841 which1768 are of the children1123 of the captivity1547 of Judah,3061 whom1768 the king4430 my father2 brought858 out of Jewry?3061

14 I have even heard8086 of you, that the spirit7308 of the gods426 is in you, and that light5094 and understanding7924 and excellent3493 wisdom2452 is found7912 in you.

15 And now3705 the wise2445 men, the astrologers,826 have been brought5954 in before6925 me, that they should read7123 this1836 writing,3792 and make known3046 to me the interpretation6591 thereof: but they could3546 not show2324 the interpretation6591 of the thing:4406

16 And I have heard8086 of you, that you can3202 make interpretations,6591 and dissolve8271 doubts:7001 now3705 if2006 you can3202 read7123 the writing,3792 and make known3046 to me the interpretation6591 thereof, you shall be clothed3848 with scarlet,711 and have a chain2002 of gold1722 about5922 your neck,6676 and shall be the third8531 ruler7981 in the kingdom.4437

17 Then116 Daniel1841 answered6032 and said560 before6925 the king,4430 Let your gifts4978 be to yourself, and give3052 your rewards5023 to another;321 yet1297 I will read7123 the writing3792 to the king,4430 and make known3046 to him the interpretation.6591

18 O you king,4430 the most5943 high5943 God426 gave3052 Nebuchadnezzar5020 your father2 a kingdom,4437 and majesty,7238 and glory,3367 and honor:1923

19 And for the majesty7238 that he gave3052 him, all3606 people,5972 nations,524 and languages,3961 trembled2112 and feared1763 before4481 6925 him: whom1768 he would6634 he slew;6992 and whom1768 he would6634 he kept alive;2418 and whom1768 he would6634 he set7313 up; and whom he would6634 he put8214 down.8214

20 But when1768 his heart3825 was lifted7313 up, and his mind7307 hardened8631 in pride,2103 he was deposed5182 from his kingly4437 throne,3764 and they took5709 his glory3367 from him:

21 And he was driven2957 from the sons1123 of men;606 and his heart3825 was made7737 like5974 the beasts,2423 and his dwelling4070 was with the wild6167 asses:6167 they fed2939 him with grass6211 like oxen,8450 and his body1655 was wet6647 with the dew2920 of heaven;8065 till5704 he knew3046 that the most5943 high5943 God426 ruled7990 in the kingdom4437 of men,606 and that he appoints6966 over5922 it whomsoever4479 1768 he will.6634

22 And you his son,1247 O Belshazzar,1113 have not humbled8214 your heart,3825 though3606 you knew3046 all3606 this;1836

23 But have lifted7313 up yourself against5922 the Lord4756 of heaven;8065 and they have brought858 the vessels3984 of his house1005 before6925 you, and you, and your lords,7261 your wives,7695 and your concubines,3904 have drunk8355 wine2562 in them; and you have praised7624 the gods426 of silver,3702 and gold,1722 of brass,5174 iron,6523 wood,636 and stone,69 which1768 see2370 not, nor3809 hear,8086 nor3809 know:3046 and the God426 in whose1768 hand3028 your breath5396 is, and whose are all3606 your ways,735 have you not glorified:1922

24 Then116 was the part6447 of the hand3028 sent7972 from him; and this1836 writing3792 was written.7560

25 And this1836 is the writing3792 that was written,7560 MENE,4484 MENE,4484 TEKEL,8625 UPHARSIN.6537

26 This1836 is the interpretation6591 of the thing:4406 MENE;4484 God426 has numbered4483 your kingdom,4437 and finished8000 it.

27 TEKEL;8625 You are weighed8625 in the balances,3977 and are found7912 wanting.2627

28 PERES;6537 Your kingdom4437 is divided,6537 and given3052 to the Medes4076 and Persians.6540

29 Then116 commanded560 Belshazzar,1113 and they clothed3848 Daniel1841 with scarlet,711 and put a chain2002 of gold1722 about5922 his neck,6676 and made a proclamation3745 concerning5922 him, that he should be the third8531 ruler7990 in the kingdom.4437

30 In that night3916 was Belshazzar1113 the king4430 of the Chaldeans3779 slain.6992

31 And Darius1868 the Median4077 took6902 the kingdom,4437 being about three score8361 and two8648 years8140 old.1247

11 В твоём царстве есть человек, в котором дух святых богов. В дни царствования твоего отца этот человек показал, что умеет разгадывать тайны. 11 There is a man1400 in your kingdom,4437 in whom1768 is the spirit7308 of the holy6922 gods;426 and in the days3118 of your father2 light5094 and understanding7924 and wisdom,2452 like the wisdom2452 of the gods,426 was found7912 in him; whom the king4430 Nebuchadnezzar5020 your father,2 the king,4430 I say, your father,2 made master7229 of the magicians,2749 astrologers,826 Chaldeans,3779 and soothsayers;1505

12 Имя этого человека Даниил, но царь переименовал его в Валтасара. Он очень умён и очень много знает. Он умел толковать сны, объяснять тайны и разрешать очень трудные задачи. Позови Даниила, и он расскажет тебе, что означают письмена на стене».

13 Когда Даниила привели к царю, царь сказал ему: «Твоё имя Даниил? Ты один из пленных, которых царь привёл из Иудеи?

14 Я слышал, что в тебе дух богов, что ты очень умён и понимаешь тайны.

14 I have even heard8086 of you, that the spirit7308 of the gods426 is in you, and that light5094 and understanding7924 and excellent3493 wisdom2452 is found7912 in you.

15 Ко мне приводили мудрецов и чародеев прочитать письмена на стене. Я хотел, чтобы они объяснили мне, что означают эти письмена, но они не могли объяснить мне этого.

15 And now3705 the wise2445 men, the astrologers,826 have been brought5954 in before6925 me, that they should read7123 this1836 writing,3792 and make known3046 to me the interpretation6591 thereof: but they could3546 not show2324 the interpretation6591 of the thing:4406

16 Я слышал о тебе и о том, что ты умеешь объяснить всё и можешь разгадать самые трудные загадки. Если ты сможешь прочитать эти письмена на стене и объяснить мне их значение, я дам тебе багряницу и надену золотую цепь тебе на шею, и тогда ты станешь третьим по важности правителем в царстве».

16 And I have heard8086 of you, that you can3202 make interpretations,6591 and dissolve8271 doubts:7001 now3705 if2006 you can3202 read7123 the writing,3792 and make known3046 to me the interpretation6591 thereof, you shall be clothed3848 with scarlet,711 and have a chain2002 of gold1722 about5922 your neck,6676 and shall be the third8531 ruler7981 in the kingdom.4437

17 Тогда Даниил ответил царю: «Царь Велтасар, оставь себе свои дары или отдай эти награды кому-нибудь другому. Я и так прочту для тебя письмена на стене и объясню их значение.

18 Царь, Всемогущий Бог сделал твоего деда Навуходоносора великим и могущественным царём, а также дал ему несметные богатства.

19 Много разных народов и людей, говорящих на многих языках, трепетали перед Навуходоносором, потому что Всемогущий Бог возвысил его. Навуходоносор убивал и миловал по своему желанию; он также возвышал и унижал, кого хотел.

19 And for the majesty7238 that he gave3052 him, all3606 people,5972 nations,524 and languages,3961 trembled2112 and feared1763 before4481 6925 him: whom1768 he would6634 he slew;6992 and whom1768 he would6634 he kept alive;2418 and whom1768 he would6634 he set7313 up; and whom he would6634 he put8214 down.8214
