1 В эти дни, когда число учеников стало расти, грекоязычные евреи начали жаловаться на местных евреев. Они говорили, что те пренебрегают их вдовами, когда раздают ежедневную пищу.

2 Тогда Двенадцать созвали всех учеников и сказали: — Мы не можем, оставив служение словом Божьим, заняться обслуживанием столов.

3 Поэтому, братья, выберите из вашей среды семь человек с хорошей репутацией, исполненных Духа и мудрости, и мы возложим на них эту обязанность.

4 Сами же мы будем продолжать молиться и нести служение слова.

5 Это предложение всем понравилось, и выбрали Стефана, человека, полного веры и Святого Духа, Филиппа, Прохора, Никанора, Тимона, Пармена и Николая из Антиохии, обращенного в иудаизм.

6 Их представили апостолам, и те помолились и возложили на них руки.

7 Слово Божье распространялось, и число учеников в Иерусалиме быстро увеличивалось, даже многие священники покорились вере.

8 Стефан, человек, полный Божьей благодати и силы, совершал в народе великие чудеса и знамения.

9 Некоторые из членов так называемой Синагоги Вольноотпущенников, Киренцев и Александрийцев, а также иудеи из Киликии и провинции Азия, вступили в спор со Стефаном.

10 Но они ничего не могли противопоставить мудрости и силе Духа, с которыми говорил Стефан.

11 Тогда они тайно подговорили нескольких людей сказать: «Мы слышали, как Стефан говорил кощунственные слова против Моисея и Бога».

12 Они возбудили народ, старейшин и учителей Закона; напав на Стефана, они схватили его и привели в Высший Совет.

13 Представили лжесвидетелей, которые сказали: — Этот человек постоянно говорит против святого храма и против Закона.

14 Мы слышали, как он говорил, что Иисус из Назарета разрушит храм и изменит обычаи, которые передал нам Моисей.

15 Все сидевшие в Высшем Совете внимательно смотрели на Стефана и видели, что лицо его, как лицо ангела.

Chapter 6

1 AND in those days, when the number of disciples had increased, the Hel'len-ist converts murmured against the Hebrew converts because their widows were discriminated against in the daily distribution.

2 So the twelve apostles called the whole multitude of the converts and said to them, It is not good that we should leave the word of God and serve food. *

3 Wherefore, brethren, examine and select from among you seven men of good repute who are full of the Spirit of the LORD and of wisdom, so that we may appoint them to this task.

4 And we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.

5 This suggestion pleased the whole people so they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip and Proch'orus and Ni-ca'nor and Ti'mon and Par'menas and Nic'o-las, a proselyte of An'ti-och.

6 These men stood before the apostles: who, as they prayed, laid their hands on them.

7 And the word of God spread; and the number of the converts in Jerusalem increased greatly; and many people of Jewish faith became converts.

8 Now Stephen was full of grace and power and did great wonders and miracles among the people.

9 Then there arose certain men of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Lib'er-tines, and Cy-re'ni-ans and Al-exan'dri- ans and Ci-li'ci-ans and persons from Asia Minor, and they debated with Stephen.

10 But they were unable to stand up against the wisdom and the spirit by which he spoke.

11 Then they sent men and instructed them to say, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God.

12 And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and they rose up against him and seized him and brought him into the midst of the council.

13 And they appointed false witnesses who said, This man does not cease to speak against the law and against this holy land:

14 For we have heard him say that Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this country and shall change the customs which Moses entrusted to you.

15 Then all who were seated at the council looked at him and saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

6 These men stood before the apostles: who, as they prayed, laid their hands on them.

7 Слово Божье распространялось, и число учеников в Иерусалиме быстро увеличивалось, даже многие священники покорились вере.

7 And the word of God spread; and the number of the converts in Jerusalem increased greatly; and many people of Jewish faith became converts.

8 Стефан, человек, полный Божьей благодати и силы, совершал в народе великие чудеса и знамения.

8 Now Stephen was full of grace and power and did great wonders and miracles among the people.

12 And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and they rose up against him and seized him and brought him into the midst of the council.
