Глава 17

1 Лучше сухой кусок хлеба, и при нем спокойствие, нежели дом, полный заколотого скота, с раздором.

2 Умный раб господствует над беспутным сыном, и с братьями делит наследство.

3 Плавильня - для серебра, и горнило - для золота; а сердца испытывает Иегова.

4 Злой слушается уст неправды; лживый внимает языку пагубы.

5 Кто ругается над нищим, тот хулит Творца его; радующийся о погибели, не останется без наказания

6 Венец старцев - сыны сынов; а украшение сынов - отцы их.

7 Неприличны глупому уста, говорящие о превосходном; тем паче благородному - уста лжи.

8 Камень благодати есть дар в глазах того, кто получил его; С ним куда ни обратится, с ним везде будет благоуспешен.

9 Кто прикрывает проступок, тот ищет дружбы; а кто вторично поднимет дело, отлучит друга.

10 Разумного сильнее трогает выговор, нежели глупого сто ударов.

11 Только зла ищет мятежник, и лютый вестник будет послан на него.

12 Пусть встретится с человеком лучше медведица, лишенная детей, только не глупый в своем неистовстве.

13 Кто за добро платит злом, от дома того не отойдет зло.

14 Начало раздора - порыв воды; и прежде, нежели разгорелась ссора, оставь ее.

15 Виноватого ли кто оправдывает, правого ли обвиняет, - тот и другой противен Иегове.

16 К чему деньги в руке глупого? Чтобы купить премудрость? - но сердца нет.

17 Во всякое время друг любит, а во время нужды будет как брат новорожденный.

18 Человек малоумный ударяет по рукам, принимает на себя поручительство перед другими.

19 Любящий ссору любит грех; кто высоко ставит дверь свою, тот хочет разбиться.

20 Лукавый сердцем не найдет добра, и развратный языком своим попадет в беду.

21 Родивший глупого родил его на горе себе; и не порадуется отец безумца.

22 Сердце веселое добрым делает лицо, а унылый дух сушит кости.

23 Подарок из-за пазухи беззаконник берет, чтоб уклониться от стезей правосудия.

24 Премудрость у разумного пред лицом; а глаза глупого - на конце земли.

25 Досада отцу своему глупый сын, и кручина для родительницы своей.

26 И денежную пеню взыскать с правого нехорошо, тем паче бить благородных людей за правду.

27 Знающий правила благоразумия воздержен на слова свои; и человек разумный холоден духом.

28 И глупца, пока он молчит, сочтут мудрецом; благоразумен затворяющий уста свои.
