1 В пору пребывания израильтян в Шиттиме мужчины их распутничали с моавитянками.

2 А те приглашали их к участию в праздничных жертвоприношениях своим богам. И ели израильтяне с ними и поклонялись божествам их.

3 И когда Израиль так привязался к Ваал-Пеору, разгневался на него ГОСПОДЬ,

4 и велел ГОСПОДЬ Моисею: «Схвати всех предававшихся сему разврату вождей народа и предай их казни пред ГОСПОДОМ, на виду у всех, чтобы отвратить гнев ГОСПОДЕНЬ от Израиля».

5 Моисей возложил это на судей Израилевых. «Каждый из вас, — сказал он им, — должен предать смерти всех тех людей в своем колене, что привязались к Ваал-Пеору».

6 И как раз в то время один израильтянин вел к себе, в свой семейный шатер, мидьянитянку на глазах у всех, кто в покаянии сокрушался у входа в Шатер Откровения. Он делал это с полным пренебрежением к Моисею и всей общине Израиля.

7 Увидев такое, Финеес, сын Элеазара, внук Аарона-священника, отделился от тех, кто сокрушался в покаянии, и, взяв копье,

8 проследовал за тем в его шатер. Одним ударом копья он пронзил обоих — израильтянина и женщину, пригвоздив их. И тогда прекратилось истребление сынов Израилевых.

9 Но уже двадцать четыре тысячи их было умерщвлено к тому времени.

10 ГОСПОДЬ сказал Моисею:

11 «Финеес, сын Элеазара, внук Аарона-священника, отвратил ярость Мою от сынов Израилевых, вознегодовав на грех среди них, как и Я на него негодую, так что Я не истребил их в Своем негодовании.

12 Так вот скажи ему: с ним заключаю Я Договор, Завет мира.

13 И будет завет сей и ему самому, и всем потомкам его заветом вечного священства их: ведь с рвением достохвальным явил Финеес ненависть ко греху во имя Бога своего и восстановил единение с Господом сынов Израилевых».

14 А имя поверженного израильтянина, убитого вместе с мидьянитянкой, тоже известно: то был Зимри, сын Салу, из вождей колена Симеона.

15 Мидьянитянку же звали Козби. Она была дочь Цура, главы одного из племен мидьянитянских.

16 И вот что еще сказал ГОСПОДЬ Моисею:

17 «Преследуйте мидьянитян и истребите их.

18 Ведь это они преследовали вас своими коварными домогательствами, пока не увлекли в постыдные связи у Пеора, как то было в случае с женщиной по имени Козби, дочерью вождя Мидьяна, что была убита в день истребления народа из-за Пеора».

2 And they called7121 the people5971 unto the sacrifices2077 of their gods:430 and the people5971 did eat,398 and bowed down7812 to their gods.430

3 And Israel3478 joined himself6775 unto Baal-peor:1187 and the anger639 of the LORD3068 was kindled2734 against Israel.3478

4 And the LORD3068 said559 unto413 Moses,4872 Take3947 853 all3605 the heads7218 of the people,5971 and hang them up3363 853 before the LORD3068 against5048 the sun,8121 that the fierce2740 anger639 of the LORD3068 may be turned away7725 from Israel.4480 3478

5 And Moses4872 said559 unto413 the judges8199 of Israel,3478 Slay2026 ye every one376 his men582 that were joined6775 unto Baal-peor.1187

6 And, behold,2009 one376 of the children4480 1121 of Israel3478 came935 and brought7126 unto413 his brethren251 853 a Midianitish woman4084 in the sight5869 of Moses,4872 and in the sight5869 of all3605 the congregation5712 of the children1121 of Israel,3478 who1992 were weeping1058 before the door6607 of the tabernacle168 of the congregation.4150

7 And when Phinehas,6372 the son1121 of Eleazar,499 the son1121 of Aaron175 the priest,3548 saw7200 it, he rose up6965 from among4480 8432 the congregation,5712 and took3947 a javelin7420 in his hand;3027

8 And he went935 after310 the man376 of Israel3478 into413 the tent,6898 and thrust1856 853 both8147 of them through,853 the man376 of Israel,3478 and the woman802 through413 her belly.6897 So the plague4046 was stayed6113 from4480 5921 the children1121 of Israel.3478

9 And those that died4191 in the plague4046 were1961 twenty6242 and four702 thousand.505

10 And the LORD3068 spoke1696 unto413 Moses,4872 saying,559

11 Phinehas,6372 the son1121 of Eleazar,499 the son1121 of Aaron175 the priest,3548 hath turned my wrath away7725 853 2534 from4480 5921 the children1121 of Israel,3478 while he was zealous7065 for my sake854 7068 among8432 them, that I consumed3615 not3808 853 the children1121 of Israel3478 in my jealousy.7068

12 Wherefore3651 say,559 Behold,2009 I give5414 unto him853 my covenant1285 of peace: 7965

13 And he shall have1961 it, and his seed2233 after310 him, even the covenant1285 of an everlasting5769 priesthood;3550 because8478 834 he was zealous7065 for his God,430 and made an atonement3722 for5921 the children1121 of Israel.3478

14 Now the name8034 of the Israelite376 3478 that was slain5221 even that834 was slain5221 with854 the Midianitish woman,4084 was Zimri,2174 the son1121 of Salu,5543 a prince5387 of a chief1 house1004 among the Simeonites.8099

15 And the name8034 of the Midianitish4084 woman802 that was slain5221 was Cozbi,3579 the daughter1323 of Zur;6698 he1931 was head7218 over a people,523 and of a chief1 house1004 in Midian.4080

16 And the LORD3068 spoke1696 unto413 Moses,4872 saying,559

17 Vex6887 853 the Midianites,4084 and smite5221 them:

18 For3588 they1992 vex6887 you with their wiles,5231 wherewith834 they have beguiled5230 you in5921 the matter1697 of Peor,6465 and in5921 the matter1697 of Cozbi,3579 the daughter1323 of a prince5387 of Midian,4080 their sister,269 which was slain5221 in the day3117 of the plague4046 for Peor's sake.5921 1697 6465

6 И как раз в то время один израильтянин вел к себе, в свой семейный шатер, мидьянитянку на глазах у всех, кто в покаянии сокрушался у входа в Шатер Откровения. Он делал это с полным пренебрежением к Моисею и всей общине Израиля.
