Chapter 26

1 AND there was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Gadar, to Abimeleck king of the Philistines.

2 And the LORD appeared to him, and said, Do not go down to Egypt; dwell in the land of which I shall tell you;

3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you and will bless you; for to you and to your descendants I will give all these kingdoms, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father;

4 And I will make your descendants to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give to your descendants all these lands; and by your descendants shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;

5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

6 And Isaac dwelt in Gadar;

7 And the men of the place asked him concerning his wife; and he said, She is my sister; for he was afraid to say, She is my wife; lest the men of the place should kill him on account of Rebekah, because she was fair to look upon.

8 And it came to pass when he had been there a long time that Abimeleck king of the Philistines looked out of a window and saw Isaac fondling Rebekah his wife.

9 So Abimeleck called Isaac, and said, Behold, she is your wife; how then did you say, She is my sister? And Isaac said to him, Because I said, Lest I may die on account of her.

10 And Abimeleck said to him, What is this thing that you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought sin upon us.

11 And Abimeleck charged all the people, saying, Whoever harms this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.

12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year a hundredfold; and the LORD blessed him.

13 And the man became great, and went forward and grew until he became very great;

14 And he had possessions of flocks and possessions of herds and much wealth, so that the Philistines envied him.

15 For all the wells which his father's servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had polluted them and filled them with earth.

16 And Abimeleck said to Isaac, Go away from among us; for you are much mightier than we.

17 So Isaac departed from thence, and encamped in the valley of Gadar, and dwelt there.

18 And Isaac digged again the wells of water which had been dug by the servants of his father in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had polluted them after the death of Abraham; and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.

19 And Isaac's servants dug in the valley, and found there a well of living water.

20 And the herdsmen of Gadar quarreled with Isaac's herdsmen, saying, The water is ours; and he called the name of the well Aska (difficulty); because they disputed with him.

21 And they dug another well, and they quarreled over that also; and he called the name of it Satana (the adversary).

22 Then he moved from there, and dug another well; but over that they did not quarrel; and he called the name of it Rehoboth (to enlarge); and he said, For now the LORD has made room for us, and we shall multiply in the land.

23 And he went up from thence to Beer-sheba.

24 And the LORD appeared to him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham your father; fear not, for I am with you, and I will bless you, and multiply your descendants for my servant Abraham's sake.

25 And he built an altar there, and called upon the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there; and there Isaac's servants dug a well.

26 Then Abimeleck went to him from Gadar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phichol the general of his army.

27 And Isaac said to them, Why have you come to me, seeing that you hate me, and have sent me away from you?

28 And they said, We saw certainly that the LORD is with you; so we said, Let there be now an oath between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you,

29 That you will do us no evil, just as we have not hurt you, and as we have done nothing but good to you, and have sent you away in peace; you are now the blessed of the LORD.

30 And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink.

31 And they rose up in the early morning, and took oaths one with another; and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.

32 And it came to pass the same day that Isaac's servants came, and spoke to him concerning the well which they had dug, and said to him, We have found water.

33 And he called it Sheba; therefore the name of the town is called Beer-sheba to this day.

34 And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bismath the daughter of Elon the Hivite;

35 And they made life miserable for Isaac and Rebekah.

1 Наступил голод, такой же, какой случился при жизни Авраама. Исаак пошёл в город Герар к Авимелеху, царю филистимлян.

2 Господь обратился к Исааку с такими словами: «Не ходи в Египет, живи в земле, в которой Я велел тебе жить.

3 Оставайся на этой земле, и Я буду с тобой, благословлю тебя и отдам тебе и твоей семье всю эту землю, и исполню то, что обещал твоему отцу Аврааму.

4 Я сделаю так, что твоя семья умножится, подобно звёздам в небесах. Я отдам тебе и твоему семейству все эти земли, и благословенны будут все племена на земле через твоё потомство.

5 Я сделаю всё это, потому что твой отец Авраам следовал Моим словам и поступал так, как Я велел, подчиняясь Моим заповедям, законам и уставам».

6 Исаак остался жить в Гераре.

7 Его жена Ревекка была красавицей, и вот мужчины стали расспрашивать о ней Исаака, он же ответил им: «Она — моя сестра», так как боялся, что его убьют, чтобы взять её себе.

8 Когда Исаак прожил там уже долгое время, Авимелех выглянул однажды в окно и, увидев, как Исаак забавляется со своей женой Ревеккой,

9 призвал Исаака и спросил: «Эта женщина — твоя жена, так почему же ты сказал нам, что она — твоя сестра?» Исаак ответил: «Я боялся, что ты меня убьёшь ради неё».

10 «Ты бесчестно поступил с нами? — сказал Авимелех. — Ведь кто-нибудь из наших мужчин мог совокупиться с ней и был бы тогда повинен в великом грехе».

11 Авимелех предупредил свой народ: «Пусть никто не прикасается к этому человеку и его жене, а кто прикоснётся, тот будет убит».

12 Исаак возделывал на той земле поля и в тот год собрал богатый урожай, потому что Господь благословил его.

13 Исаак разбогател и богател всё больше и больше, пока не стал несметно богат.

14 У него было множество мелкого и крупного скота и множество рабов, и все филистимляне стали завидовать ему.

15 Они засыпали и завалили песком все колодцы, которые за много лет до того выкопал Авраам со своими слугами.

16 Авимелех сказал Исааку: «Уйди из нашей страны, так как ты стал намного могущественнее нас».

17 Исаак ушёл из Филистимской земли. Он поставил свои шатры поблизости от речки Герар и стал там жить.

18 За много лет до этого Авраам вырыл множество колодцев, но после его смерти филистимляне засыпали колодцы песком. Исаак пошёл и вырыл все эти колодцы и назвал их теми же именами, которые дал им его отец.

19 Слуги Исаака вырыли также колодец и около речки, и из этого колодца вытекал ручей.

20 Но пастухи, пасшие стада в Герарской долине, поспорили со слугами Исаака, говоря: «Это наша вода». Поэтому Исаак назвал этот колодец Есек, так как на том месте с ним спорили.

21 Затем слуги Исаака вырыли другой колодец, но местные жители тоже стали спорить из-за колодца, так что Исаак назвал его Ситна.

22 Исаак ушёл оттуда и вырыл ещё один колодец. На этот раз никто не оспаривал право на него, поэтому Исаак назвал его Реховоф и сказал: «Наконец-то Господь нашёл нам место, где наш народ будет множиться и преуспевать».

23 Оттуда Исаак перешёл в Вирсавию.

24 В ту ночь Господь явился ему и сказал: «Я — Бог твоего отца Авраама. Ничего не бойся, потому что Я с тобой, Я благословлю тебя и сделаю великим твой род. Я сделаю это ради Моего слуги Авраама».

25 Исаак возвёл алтарь на том месте и поклонился Господу. Там он поставил свои шатры, а его слуги вырыли колодец.

26 Из Герара к нему пришёл Авимелех и привёл с собой Ахузафа, своего советника, и Фихола, военачальника.

27 «Вы зачем пришли? — спросил Исаак. — Ведь раньше вы не по-дружески относились ко мне и даже вынудили меня уйти с вашей земли».

28 «Теперь мы ясно видим, что Господь помогает тебе, — ответили они. — Мы хотим заключить с тобой союз, чтобы ты нам поклялся:

29 мы не причинили тебе вреда, и ты должен поклясться, что не причинишь нам вреда. Мы отпустили тебя с миром и теперь нам ясно, что Господь благословил тебя».

30 Исаак устроил для них пир, и все ели и пили,

31 а рано утром каждый из них дал обещание и клятву, и они ушли с миром.

32 В тот же день к Исааку пришли слуги и сказали, что нашли воду в колодце, который они выкопали.

33 Исаак назвал этот колодец Шива, тот город и по сей день называется Вирсавия.

34 Когда Исаву было 40 лет, он взял себе в жены двух хеттеянок: Иегудифу, дочь Беера, и Васемафу, дочь Елона.

35 Исаак и Ревекка были очень недовольны этими браками.

1 AND there was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Gadar, to Abimeleck king of the Philistines.	1 Наступил голод, такой же, какой случился при жизни Авраама. Исаак пошёл в город Герар к Авимелеху, царю филистимлян.
2 And the LORD appeared to him, and said, Do not go down to Egypt; dwell in the land of which I shall tell you;	2 Господь обратился к Исааку с такими словами: «Не ходи в Египет, живи в земле, в которой Я велел тебе жить.
3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you and will bless you; for to you and to your descendants I will give all these kingdoms, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father;	3 Оставайся на этой земле, и Я буду с тобой, благословлю тебя и отдам тебе и твоей семье всю эту землю, и исполню то, что обещал твоему отцу Аврааму.
4 And I will make your descendants to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give to your descendants all these lands; and by your descendants shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;	4 Я сделаю так, что твоя семья умножится, подобно звёздам в небесах. Я отдам тебе и твоему семейству все эти земли, и благословенны будут все племена на земле через твоё потомство.
5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.	5 Я сделаю всё это, потому что твой отец Авраам следовал Моим словам и поступал так, как Я велел, подчиняясь Моим заповедям, законам и уставам».
6 And Isaac dwelt in Gadar;	6 Исаак остался жить в Гераре.

11 And Abimeleck charged all the people, saying, Whoever harms this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.	11 Авимелех предупредил свой народ: «Пусть никто не прикасается к этому человеку и его жене, а кто прикоснётся, тот будет убит».
12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year a hundredfold; and the LORD blessed him.	12 Исаак возделывал на той земле поля и в тот год собрал богатый урожай, потому что Господь благословил его.
13 And the man became great, and went forward and grew until he became very great;	13 Исаак разбогател и богател всё больше и больше, пока не стал несметно богат.
14 And he had possessions of flocks and possessions of herds and much wealth, so that the Philistines envied him.	14 У него было множество мелкого и крупного скота и множество рабов, и все филистимляне стали завидовать ему.

Ничего не бойся, потому что Я с тобой, Я благословлю тебя и сделаю великим твой род. Я сделаю это ради Моего слуги Авраама».
