Chapter 19

1 IN the third month after the departure of the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, on the same day they came to the wilderness of Seen.

2 Then they journeyed from Rephidim and came to the wilderness of Sinai, and they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mountain.

3 And Moses went up to God, and God called to him out of the mountain and said to him, Thus shall you say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel,

4 You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you as though you were on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.

5 Now therefore, if you will obey my voice indeed and keep my covenant, then you shall be my beloved ones above all peoples, for all the earth is mine;

6 And you shall be to me a kingdom and priests and an holy people. These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.

7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and said in their presence all these words which the LORD commanded him.

8 And all the people answered together and said, All that the LORD has spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people to the LORD.

9 And the LORD said to Moses, Lo, I am coming to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you and also believe you for ever. And Moses told the words of the people before the LORD.

10 And the LORD said to Moses, Go to the people and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes,

11 And be ready by the third day; for on the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

12 And you shall publish a warning among the people, saying, Take heed to yourselves, neither go up into the mountain, nor draw near to the border of it; whoever draws near to the mountain shall be put to death:

13 No hand shall touch it, but he shall surely be stoned and hurled down; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live; when the trumpet is silent, then you are permitted to ascend the mountain.

14 And Moses went down from the mountain to the people and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.

15 And he said to the people, Be ready on the third day; do not touch your wives.

16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning that there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud appeared upon the mountain and the sound of the trumpet exceedingly loud; so that all the people that were in the camp trembled.

17 Then Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the base of the mountain.

18 And the whole mountain of Sinai was smoking because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and the smoke thereof ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.

19 And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice.

20 And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, to the very top of the mountain: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mountain; and Moses went up.

21 And the LORD said to Moses, Go down, warn the people, test they break through to the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.

22 And let the priests also who come near to the LORD sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.

23 And Moses said to the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai; for thou didst warn us, saying, Set bounds about the mountain and sanctify it.

24 And the LORD said to him, Hasten, go down, and then come up, you, and Aaron your brother with you; but let not the priests and the people break through to come up before the LORD, test he kill them.

25 So Moses went down to the people and told them.

1 Исраильтяне достигли Синайской пустыни ровно через два месяца после ухода из Египта.

2 Покинув Рефидим, они пришли в Синайскую пустыню, где остановились у подножия горы.

3 Муса взошёл к Всевышнему на гору. Вечный обратился к нему с горы и сказал: – Скажи потомкам Якуба, народу Исраила:

4 «Вы видели, что Я сделал с Египтом, и как Я нёс вас на орлиных крыльях и привёл к Себе.

5 Итак, если вы будете всецело повиноваться Мне и соблюдать священное соглашение, то из всех народов лишь вы будете Моим драгоценным достоянием. Вся земля Моя,

6 но вы будете у Меня царством священнослужителей, святым народом». Скажи это исраильтянам.

7 Муса спустился, позвал старейшин народа и передал им то, что ему повелел сказать Вечный.

8 Народ ответил единогласно: – Мы исполним всё, что сказал Вечный. Муса передал их ответ Вечному.

9 Вечный сказал Мусе: – Я приду к тебе в густом облаке, чтобы народ услышал, как Я говорю с тобой, и навсегда поверил тебе. Муса передал Вечному всё, что сказал народ.

10 Вечный ответил Мусе: – Пойди к народу и освяти его сегодня и завтра. Пусть они выстирают одежду

11 и приготовятся к третьему дню, потому что тогда Вечный сойдёт на гору Синай у них на глазах.

12 Установи для народа границу вокруг горы и скажи им: «Остерегайтесь подниматься на гору и касаться её подножия. Всякий, кто коснётся горы, непременно будет предан смерти.

13 Его забьют камнями или пронзят стрелами: его нельзя будет коснуться рукой. Человек ли то или животное – ему не жить». Лишь когда протяжно протрубит рог, они могут подниматься на гору.

14 Спустившись к народу с горы, Муса освятил его. Они выстирали одежду.

15 Он сказал народу: – Приготовьтесь к послезавтрашнему дню. Воздержитесь от близости с женщинами.

16 Утром третьего дня были гром и молния, густое облако над горой и громкий трубный звук. Все, кто был в лагере, задрожали.

17 Муса вывел народ из лагеря навстречу Всевышнему, и они встали у подножия горы.

18 Гора Синай была застлана дымом, потому что Вечный сошёл на неё в огне. От неё поднимался дым, словно из печи. Вся гора сильно дрожала,

19 а трубный звук становился всё громче и громче. Муса говорил, и Всевышний отвечал ему громовым голосом.

20 Вечный сошёл на вершину горы Синай и позвал туда Мусу. Когда Муса поднялся,

21 Вечный сказал ему: – Сойди и предупреди народ, чтобы они не переступали границу, чтобы посмотреть на Вечного, иначе многие из них умрут.

22 Даже священнослужители, которые приближаются к Вечному, должны освятить себя, иначе Вечный покарает их.

23 Муса сказал Вечному: – Народ не может подняться на гору Синай, ведь Ты Сам предупредил нас: «Установите границу вокруг горы и освятите её».

24 Вечный ответил: – Сойди и приведи с собой Харуна. Священнослужители и народ пусть не переступают границу, чтобы подняться ко Мне, иначе Я их покараю.

25 Муса сошёл к народу и передал всё это.

2 Then they journeyed from Rephidim and came to the wilderness of Sinai, and they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mountain.

3 And Moses went up to God, and God called to him out of the mountain and said to him, Thus shall you say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel,

3 Муса взошёл к Всевышнему на гору. Вечный обратился к нему с горы и сказал: – Скажи потомкам Якуба, народу Исраила:

4 You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you as though you were on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.

4 «Вы видели, что Я сделал с Египтом, и как Я нёс вас на орлиных крыльях и привёл к Себе.

5 Now therefore, if you will obey my voice indeed and keep my covenant, then you shall be my beloved ones above all peoples, for all the earth is mine;

5 Итак, если вы будете всецело повиноваться Мне и соблюдать священное соглашение, то из всех народов лишь вы будете Моим драгоценным достоянием. Вся земля Моя,

6 And you shall be to me a kingdom and priests and an holy people. These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.

6 но вы будете у Меня царством священнослужителей, святым народом». Скажи это исраильтянам.

7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and said in their presence all these words which the LORD commanded him.

7 Муса спустился, позвал старейшин народа и передал им то, что ему повелел сказать Вечный.

8 And all the people answered together and said, All that the LORD has spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people to the LORD.

8 Народ ответил единогласно: – Мы исполним всё, что сказал Вечный. Муса передал их ответ Вечному.

9 And the LORD said to Moses, Lo, I am coming to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you and also believe you for ever. And Moses told the words of the people before the LORD.

9 Вечный сказал Мусе: – Я приду к тебе в густом облаке, чтобы народ услышал, как Я говорю с тобой, и навсегда поверил тебе. Муса передал Вечному всё, что сказал народ.

10 And the LORD said to Moses, Go to the people and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes,

10 Вечный ответил Мусе: – Пойди к народу и освяти его сегодня и завтра. Пусть они выстирают одежду

11 And be ready by the third day; for on the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

11 и приготовятся к третьему дню, потому что тогда Вечный сойдёт на гору Синай у них на глазах.

12 Установи для народа границу вокруг горы и скажи им: «Остерегайтесь подниматься на гору и касаться её подножия. Всякий, кто коснётся горы, непременно будет предан смерти.

14 And Moses went down from the mountain to the people and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.

14 Спустившись к народу с горы, Муса освятил его. Они выстирали одежду.

15 And he said to the people, Be ready on the third day; do not touch your wives.

15 Он сказал народу: – Приготовьтесь к послезавтрашнему дню. Воздержитесь от близости с женщинами.

16 Утром третьего дня были гром и молния, густое облако над горой и громкий трубный звук. Все, кто был в лагере, задрожали.

17 Then Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the base of the mountain.

17 Муса вывел народ из лагеря навстречу Всевышнему, и они встали у подножия горы.

18 And the whole mountain of Sinai was smoking because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and the smoke thereof ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.

18 Гора Синай была застлана дымом, потому что Вечный сошёл на неё в огне. От неё поднимался дым, словно из печи. Вся гора сильно дрожала,

19 And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice.

19 а трубный звук становился всё громче и громче. Муса говорил, и Всевышний отвечал ему громовым голосом.

20 And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, to the very top of the mountain: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mountain; and Moses went up.

20 Вечный сошёл на вершину горы Синай и позвал туда Мусу. Когда Муса поднялся,

21 And the LORD said to Moses, Go down, warn the people, test they break through to the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.

21 Вечный сказал ему: – Сойди и предупреди народ, чтобы они не переступали границу, чтобы посмотреть на Вечного, иначе многие из них умрут.

22 And let the priests also who come near to the LORD sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.

22 Даже священнослужители, которые приближаются к Вечному, должны освятить себя, иначе Вечный покарает их.

23 And Moses said to the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai; for thou didst warn us, saying, Set bounds about the mountain and sanctify it.

23 Муса сказал Вечному: – Народ не может подняться на гору Синай, ведь Ты Сам предупредил нас: «Установите границу вокруг горы и освятите её».

24 And the LORD said to him, Hasten, go down, and then come up, you, and Aaron your brother with you; but let not the priests and the people break through to come up before the LORD, test he kill them.

24 Вечный ответил: – Сойди и приведи с собой Харуна. Священнослужители и народ пусть не переступают границу, чтобы подняться ко Мне, иначе Я их покараю.

25 So Moses went down to the people and told them.

25 Муса сошёл к народу и передал всё это.
