Chapter 5

1 O YOU rich men, weep and howl for the miseries which shall come upon you!

2 Your riches are destroyed and rotted, and your garments are moth-eaten.

3 Your gold and silver are tarnished, and the rust of them will be a testimony against you, and shall eat your flesh. The treasures which you have heaped together will be as fire to you for the last days.

4 Behold, the wage of the labourers, who have reaped down your fields, that which you have fraudulently kept back, cries: and the cry of the reapers has already entered into the ears of the LORD of sabaoth.

5 For you have had your luxuries on earth and have been greedy; you have fed your bodies as for the day of slaughter.

6 You have condemned and murdered the righteous; and yet he does not resist you.

7 But you, my brethren, be patient, until the coming of the LORD, just as the husbandman waits for the precious crops of his field, and has long patience for it, until he receives the early and the latter rain.

8 You be patient also: strengthen your hearts: for the coming of our LORD is at hand.

9 Complain not one against another, my brethren, lest you be condemned: for behold judgment is at hand.

10 My brethren, take the prophets who have spoken in the name of the LORD, for an example of patience in your suffering.

11 Behold, we count them happy who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job, and you have seen what the LORD did for him at the end; for the LORD is very merciful and compassionate.

12 But above all things, my brethren, do not swear, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your words be yes, yes, and no, no; lest you fall under condemnation.

13 If any among you be afflicted, let him pray. If any be merry, let him sing psalms.

14 And if any be sick, let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of our LORD:

15 And the prayer of faith shall heal the sick, and our LORD shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man is powerful.

17 Even Elijah, who was a weak man like ourselves, prayed earnestly that it might not rain upon the land, and it did not rain for three years and six months.

18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruits.

19 My brethren, if any of you do err from the way of the truth, and some one converts him from his error,

20 Let him know that he who converts a sinner from the error of his way, shall save his soul from death, and shall wipe out a multitude of sins.

Глава 5

1 Теперь о вас, богатые. Плачьте, рыдайте, ибо ждет вас беда.

2 Считайте, что пропало ваше богатство и одежды ваши побиты молью,

3 изъедены ржавчиной даже золото ваше и серебро — ржавчина эта изобличит вас и спалит вашу плоть, как огонь. Собрали вы сокровища, но в мире собрали вы их, дни которого сочтены уже.

4 И плата, которую вы не отдали работникам, собравшим хлеб с полей ваших, взывает к отмщению, и крики жнецов дошли до слуха Господа Саваофа.

5 Вы роскошествовали на земле и всем желаниям своим потакали. Так утучнили вы себя на день заклания.

6 Вы и теперь продолжаете судить и убивать праведников, хотя они и не противятся вам.

7 Вы же, братья мои, не впадайте в уныние и будьте терпеливы в ожидании пришествия Господня. Посмотрите на земледельца, как он ожидает драгоценного плода земли, дождей ранних и поздних с каким терпением ждет он!

8 Будьте и вы столь же терпеливы и стойки — близко уже пришествие Господне.

9 Не вините никого в своих бедах, братья, чтобы самим не быть осужденными — уже у дверей Судья.

10 Пусть будет для вас примером то долготерпение, какое явили в страданиях своих пророки, говорившие во имя Господне.

11 Помните, что блаженными мы называем тех, которые терпели. Вы слышали о стойкости Иова и знаете, какое намерение о нем было у Господа, ведь исполнен Он сострадания и милости.

12 Но главное, не клянитесь, братья мои, — ни небом, ни землей и ничем иным не клянитесь; просто пусть «да» у вас будет «да», а «нет» точно будет «нет», тогда не навлечете на себя осуждения.

13 Страдает ли кто из вас — пусть молится, радостен ли кто — пусть поет псалмы.

14 Болен кто — пусть призовет пресвитеров церкви, чтобы те помолились над ним, совершив помазание елеем во имя Господа.

15 И молитва, с верой вознесенная, спасет больного — Господь восстановит его здоровье. И если согрешил он, прощено ему будет.

16 Так что признавайтесь друг перед другом в грехах своих и молитесь друг о друге, чтобы исцелиться. Велика сила горячей молитвы праведного.

17 Илия был такой же человек, как и мы, однако когда помолился он усердно о том, чтобы не было дождя, за три года и шесть месяцев в стране ни разу не пролился дождь,

18 когда же снова помолился, пошли дожди, и земля произрастила плод свой.

19 Братья мои, если уклонится кто из вас от истины и кто-то поможет ему вернуться,

20 пусть знает вернувший грешника с ложного пути его, что спас он его от смерти и что множество тому будет прощено грехов.

12 Но главное, не клянитесь, братья мои, — ни небом, ни землей и ничем иным не клянитесь; просто пусть «да» у вас будет «да», а «нет» точно будет «нет», тогда не навлечете на себя осуждения.

13 If any among you be afflicted, let him pray. If any be merry, let him sing psalms.

13 Страдает ли кто из вас — пусть молится, радостен ли кто — пусть поет псалмы.

14 And if any be sick, let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of our LORD:

14 Болен кто — пусть призовет пресвитеров церкви, чтобы те помолились над ним, совершив помазание елеем во имя Господа.

15 And the prayer of faith shall heal the sick, and our LORD shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

15 И молитва, с верой вознесенная, спасет больного — Господь восстановит его здоровье. И если согрешил он, прощено ему будет.
