2 От больших волнений бывают плохие сны, и у глупых всегда слов больше, чем нужно.
3 Если ты дал клятву Богу, то сдержи своё обещание, не медли с его исполнением. Бог испытывает неприязнь к глупцам. Отдай то, что ты обещал Богу.
4 Лучше не обещать ничего, чем пообещать и не сделать.
5 И не позволяй твоим словам быть причиной твоих грехов, не говори священнику: «Я не всерьёз это сказал». Если ты сделаешь так, Бог может разгневаться и уничтожить всё, ради чего ты трудился.
6 Не становись причиной собственных бедствий; пусть не мешают тебе чтить Бога бесполезные мечтания и хвастовство.
7 В некоторых странах можно увидеть бедняков, на которых возлагают непосильную работу. Это несправедливо и умаляет их права. Но не удивляйся, ведь над высокопоставленным есть другой высокопоставленный. И есть ещё другой, который стоит над ними обоими.
8 Для любой страны царь, заботящийся о своей земле, — великое благо.
9 Кто любит деньги, никогда не будет довольствоваться тем, что имеет. Кто любит богатство, тот никогда не насытится. И это всё тоже бессмысленно.
10 Чем больше у человека богатства, тем больше он тратит на «друзей», так что богатый на деле ничего не приобретает. Единственное, для чего годится богатство, — это смотреть на него.
11 Кто трудится весь день, тот мирно спит, и неважно, сколько у него еды. Но богатый всё время печётся о своём богатстве и лишается сна.
12 Видел я, как печальные события происходят в жизни: человек копит деньги на будущее,
13 но случается вдруг несчастье и, всё потеряв, он ничего не может дать своим детям.
14 Человек в мир приходит из материнского чрева нагим, и, когда умирает, покидает этот мир нагим. Он много трудится, но, умирая, не может ничего с собою взять.
15 Как же печально, что он покидает мир таким же, как пришёл. Какая польза человеку «пытаться поймать ветер»?
16 Он имеет лишь дни, полные печали и скорби, а в конце очень встревожен и болен.
17 Удостоверился я, что не существует для человека лучшего занятия, чем есть, пить и радоваться тому, что делает он за время своей недолгой земной жизни. Господь ему дал эти недолгие дни и всё, чем он владеет.
18 Если Бог посылает человеку богатство, собственность и власть, чтобы этим всем наслаждаться, то человек должен радоваться этому, он должен принять это всё и радоваться делу своему, потому что этот дар от Бога.
19 Такой человек не размышляет подолгу о днях своей жизни, так как Господь занимает его делами, которые он любит.

18 Если Бог посылает человеку богатство, собственность и власть, чтобы этим всем наслаждаться, то человек должен радоваться этому, он должен принять это всё и радоваться делу своему, потому что этот дар от Бога.
