Chapter 3

1 Then we turned,6437 and went5927 up the way1870 to Bashan:1316 and Og5747 the king4428 of Bashan1316 came3318 out against7125 us, he and all3605 his people,5971 to battle4421 at Edrei.154

2 And the LORD3068 said559 to me, Fear3372 him not: for I will deliver5414 him, and all3605 his people,5971 and his land,776 into your hand;3027 and you shall do6213 to him as you did6213 to Sihon5511 king4428 of the Amorites,567 which834 dwelled3427 at Heshbon.2809

3 So the LORD3068 our God430 delivered5414 into our hands3027 Og5747 also,1571 the king4428 of Bashan,1316 and all3605 his people:5971 and we smote5221 him until5704 none1115 was left7604 to him remaining.8300

4 And we took3920 all3605 his cities5892 at that time,6256 there was not a city7151 which834 we took3947 not from them, three score8346 cities,5892 all3605 the region2256 of Argob,709 the kingdom4467 of Og5747 in Bashan.1316

5 All3605 these428 cities5892 were fenced1219 with high1364 walls,2346 gates,1817 and bars;1280 beside905 unwalled6519 towns5892 a great3966 many.7227

6 And we utterly destroyed2763 them, as we did6213 to Sihon5511 king4428 of Heshbon,2809 utterly destroying2763 the men,4962 women,802 and children,2945 of every3605 city.5892

7 But all3605 the cattle,929 and the spoil7998 of the cities,5892 we took for a prey962 to ourselves.

8 And we took3947 at that time6256 out of the hand3027 of the two8147 kings4428 of the Amorites567 the land776 that was on5921 this side5676 Jordan,3383 from the river5158 of Arnon769 to mount2022 Hermon;2768

9 (Which Hermon2768 the Sidonians6722 call7121 Sirion;8303 and the Amorites567 call7121 it Shenir;8149)

10 All3605 the cities5892 of the plain,4334 and all3605 Gilead,1568 and all3605 Bashan,1316 to Salchah5548 and Edrei,154 cities5892 of the kingdom4467 of Og5747 in Bashan.1316

11 For only7535 Og5747 king4428 of Bashan1316 remained7604 of the remnant3499 of giants;7497 behold 2009his bedstead6210 was a bedstead6210 of iron;1270 is it not in Rabbath7237 of the children1121 of Ammon?5983 nine8672 cubits520 was the length753 thereof, and four702 cubits520 the breadth7341 of it, after the cubit520 of a man.376

12 And this2063 land,776 which we possessed3423 at that time,6256 from Aroer,6177 which834 is by the river5158 Arnon,769 and half2677 mount2022 Gilead,1568 and the cities5892 thereof, gave5414 I to the Reubenites7206 and to the Gadites.1425

13 And the rest3499 of Gilead,1568 and all3605 Bashan,1316 being the kingdom4467 of Og,5747 gave5414 I to the half2677 tribe7626 of Manasseh;4519 all3605 the region2256 of Argob,709 with all3605 Bashan,1316 which1931 was called7121 the land776 of giants.7497

14 Jair2971 the son1121 of Manasseh4519 took3947 all3605 the country2256 of Argob709 to the coasts1366 of Geshuri1651 and Maachathi;4602 and called7121 them after5921 his own name,8034 Bashanhavothjair,1316 2334 to this2088 day.3117

15 And I gave5414 Gilead1568 to Machir.4353

16 And to the Reubenites7206 and to the Gadites1425 I gave5414 from Gilead1568 even to the river5158 Arnon769 half8432 the valley,5158 and the border1366 even to the river5158 Jabbok,2999 which is the border1366 of the children1121 of Ammon;5983

17 The plain6160 also, and Jordan,3383 and the coast1366 thereof, from Chinnereth3672 even to the sea3220 of the plain,6160 even the salt4417 sea,3220 under8478 Ashdothpisgah798 6449 eastward.4217

18 And I commanded6680 you at that time,6256 saying,559 The LORD3068 your God430 has given5414 you this2063 land776 to possess3423 it: you shall pass5674 over5674 armed2502 before6440 your brothers251 the children1121 of Israel,3478 all3605 that are meet1121 for the war.2428

19 But your wives,802 and your little2945 ones, and your cattle,4735 (for I know3045 that you have much7227 cattle,4735) shall abide3427 in your cities5892 which834 I have given5414 you;

20 Until5704 the LORD3068 have given rest5117 to your brothers,251 as well as to you, and until they also1571 possess3423 the land776 which834 the LORD3068 your God430 has given5414 them beyond5676 Jordan:3383 and then shall you return7725 every man376 to his possession,3425 which834 I have given5414 you.

21 And I commanded6680 Joshua3091 at that time,6256 saying,559 Your eyes5869 have seen7200 all3605 that the LORD3068 your God430 has done6213 to these428 two8147 kings:4428 so3651 shall the LORD3068 do6213 to all3605 the kingdoms4467 where834 8033 you pass.5674

22 You shall not fear3372 them: for the LORD3068 your God430 he shall fight3898 for you.

23 And I sought2603 the LORD3068 at that time,6256 saying,559

24 O Lord136 GOD,3069 you have begun2490 to show7200 your servant5650 your greatness,1433 and your mighty2389 hand:3027 for what4310 God410 is there in heaven8064 or in earth,776 that can do6213 according to your works,4639 and according to your might?1369

25 I pray4994 you, let me go5674 over,5674 and see7200 the good2896 land776 that is beyond5676 Jordan,3383 that goodly2896 mountain,2022 and Lebanon.3844

26 But the LORD3068 was wroth5674 with me for your sakes,4616 and would not hear8085 me: and the LORD3068 said559 to me, Let it suffice7227 you; speak1696 no408 more5750 to me of this2088 matter.1697

27 Get5927 you up into the top7218 of Pisgah,6449 and lift5375 up your eyes5869 westward,3220 and northward,6828 and southward,8486 and eastward,4217 and behold7200 it with your eyes:5869 for you shall not go5674 over5674 this2088 Jordan.3383

28 But charge6680 Joshua,3091 and encourage2388 him, and strengthen553 him: for he shall go5674 over5674 before6440 this2088 people,5971 and he shall cause them to inherit5157 the land776 which834 you shall see.7200

29 So we stayed3427 in the valley1516 over4136 against4136 Bethpeor.1047

Chapter 3

1 THEN we turned and went up the way to Mathnin; and Og the king of Mathnin came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Erdei.

2 And the LORD said to me, Do not fear him; for I have delivered him, and all his people and his land into your hand; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon.

3 So the LORD our God delivered into our hand Og also, the king of Mathnin, and all his people; and we smote him until none was left to him surviving.

4 And we captured all his cities at that time, and we left not a city which we did not take from them, sixty cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Mathnin.

5 All these cities were fenced with high walls, gates, and bars; besides the suburban towns a great many.

6 And we utterly destroyed them, as we did to Sihon the king of Heshbon, for we utterly destroyed all his cities, even the women and the little ones.

7 But all the cattle and the spoil of the cities, we took for a prey to ourselves.

8 And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites the land that was on this side of the Jordan, from the river Arnon to mount Hermon

9 (The Sidonians call Hermon Sirion, and the Amorites call it Senir),

10 All the cities of the plain and all Gilead and all Mathnin as far as Salcah and Erdei, all the cities of the kingdom of Og in Mathnin.

11 For only Og the king of Mathnin remained of the remnant of the giants; behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; and behold, it is in Rabbath of the children of Ammon, nine cubits long and four cubits broad, according to the measure of the cubit of giants.

12 And this land we possessed at that time, from Adoer, which is by the river of Arnon; and half of mount Gilead, and its cities, I gave to the Reubenites and to the Gadites.

13 And the rest of Gilead, and all Mathnin, being the kingdom of Og. I gave to the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Mathnin, which is called the land of giants.

14 Jair the son of Manasseh took for himself all the region of Argob as far as the border of Geshur and Maachath; and called them after his own name, Mathnin and Caproney Jair, to this day.

15 To Machir I gave Gilead.

16 And to the Reubenites and to the Gadites I gave the region from Gilead as far as the valley of Arnon, and the inside of the valley, and its border as far as the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon;

17 Along with the desert plain, and the Jordan, and the territory thereof, front Chinnereth as far as the sea of Arabah, the Salt Sea, which lies at the foot of Ashdod and Pisgah which is in the hilly country eastward.

18 And I commanded you at that time, saying, The LORD your God has given you this land to possess it; you shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all of you who are valiant men of war.

19 But your wives and your little ones and your cattle (for I know that you have much cattle) shall remain in your cities which I have given you

20 Until the LORD have given rest to your brethren, as he has given to you, and until they also possess the land which the LORD your God is giving them beyond the Jordan; and then shall you return every man to the possession which I have given you.

21 And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Your eyes have seen all that the LORD your God has done to these two kings; so shall the LORD do to all these kingdoms through which you are going.

22 You shall not fear them; for it is the LORD your God who is fighting for you.

23 And I besought the LORD at that time, saying,

24 I beseech thee O LORD God, thou who hast begun to show thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand, and thy outstretched arm (for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do according to thy works and according to thy mighty deeds?),

25 I pray thee, let me now go over and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.

26 But the LORD was wroth with me on your account, and would not hearken to me; and the LORD said to me, Let it suffice for you; speak no more before me of this matter.

27 Go up to the top of the hill (Pisgah) and lift up your eyes eastward and westward and northward and southward, and behold it with your eyes; for you shall not cross this Jordan.

28 But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you shall see.

29 So we dwelt in the valley opposite Beth-peor.

6 And we utterly destroyed them, as we did to Sihon the king of Heshbon, for we utterly destroyed all his cities, even the women and the little ones.

7 But all3605 the cattle,929 and the spoil7998 of the cities,5892 we took for a prey962 to ourselves.

8 And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites the land that was on this side of the Jordan, from the river Arnon to mount Hermon

9 (Which Hermon2768 the Sidonians6722 call7121 Sirion;8303 and the Amorites567 call7121 it Shenir;8149)

9 (The Sidonians call Hermon Sirion, and the Amorites call it Senir),

10 All3605 the cities5892 of the plain,4334 and all3605 Gilead,1568 and all3605 Bashan,1316 to Salchah5548 and Edrei,154 cities5892 of the kingdom4467 of Og5747 in Bashan.1316

10 All the cities of the plain and all Gilead and all Mathnin as far as Salcah and Erdei, all the cities of the kingdom of Og in Mathnin.

12 And this land we possessed at that time, from Adoer, which is by the river of Arnon; and half of mount Gilead, and its cities, I gave to the Reubenites and to the Gadites.

13 And the rest of Gilead, and all Mathnin, being the kingdom of Og. I gave to the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Mathnin, which is called the land of giants.

14 Jair the son of Manasseh took for himself all the region of Argob as far as the border of Geshur and Maachath; and called them after his own name, Mathnin and Caproney Jair, to this day.

15 And I gave5414 Gilead1568 to Machir.4353

15 To Machir I gave Gilead.

16 And to the Reubenites and to the Gadites I gave the region from Gilead as far as the valley of Arnon, and the inside of the valley, and its border as far as the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon;

17 The plain6160 also, and Jordan,3383 and the coast1366 thereof, from Chinnereth3672 even to the sea3220 of the plain,6160 even the salt4417 sea,3220 under8478 Ashdothpisgah798 6449 eastward.4217

17 Along with the desert plain, and the Jordan, and the territory thereof, front Chinnereth as far as the sea of Arabah, the Salt Sea, which lies at the foot of Ashdod and Pisgah which is in the hilly country eastward.

18 And I commanded you at that time, saying, The LORD your God has given you this land to possess it; you shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all of you who are valiant men of war.

19 But your wives,802 and your little2945 ones, and your cattle,4735 (for I know3045 that you have much7227 cattle,4735) shall abide3427 in your cities5892 which834 I have given5414 you;

19 But your wives and your little ones and your cattle (for I know that you have much cattle) shall remain in your cities which I have given you

20 Until the LORD have given rest to your brethren, as he has given to you, and until they also possess the land which the LORD your God is giving them beyond the Jordan; and then shall you return every man to the possession which I have given you.

21 And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Your eyes have seen all that the LORD your God has done to these two kings; so shall the LORD do to all these kingdoms through which you are going.

22 You shall not fear3372 them: for the LORD3068 your God430 he shall fight3898 for you.

22 You shall not fear them; for it is the LORD your God who is fighting for you.

23 And I sought2603 the LORD3068 at that time,6256 saying,559

23 And I besought the LORD at that time, saying,

24 O Lord136 GOD,3069 you have begun2490 to show7200 your servant5650 your greatness,1433 and your mighty2389 hand:3027 for what4310 God410 is there in heaven8064 or in earth,776 that can do6213 according to your works,4639 and according to your might?1369

24 I beseech thee O LORD God, thou who hast begun to show thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand, and thy outstretched arm (for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do according to thy works and according to thy mighty deeds?),

25 I pray4994 you, let me go5674 over,5674 and see7200 the good2896 land776 that is beyond5676 Jordan,3383 that goodly2896 mountain,2022 and Lebanon.3844

25 I pray thee, let me now go over and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.

26 But the LORD3068 was wroth5674 with me for your sakes,4616 and would not hear8085 me: and the LORD3068 said559 to me, Let it suffice7227 you; speak1696 no408 more5750 to me of this2088 matter.1697

26 But the LORD was wroth with me on your account, and would not hearken to me; and the LORD said to me, Let it suffice for you; speak no more before me of this matter.

27 Go up to the top of the hill (Pisgah) and lift up your eyes eastward and westward and northward and southward, and behold it with your eyes; for you shall not cross this Jordan.

28 But charge6680 Joshua,3091 and encourage2388 him, and strengthen553 him: for he shall go5674 over5674 before6440 this2088 people,5971 and he shall cause them to inherit5157 the land776 which834 you shall see.7200

28 But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you shall see.

29 So we stayed3427 in the valley1516 over4136 against4136 Bethpeor.1047

29 So we dwelt in the valley opposite Beth-peor.
