1 In Ephraim669 ist7235 allenthalben Lüge3577 wider mich und im Hause Israel falscher7307 Gottesdienst. Aber Juda hält noch3117 fest an GOtt und am rechten heiligen Gottesdienst.

2 Ephraim aber weidet sich7725 vom Winde und3068 läuft dem1870 Ostwinde nach und3290 macht täglich der Abgötterei und des Schadens mehr; sie6485 machen mit Assur einen Bund und bringen Balsam nach Ägypten.

3 Darum wird der HErr die Sache Judas führen und430 Jakob heimsuchen nach seinem Wesen und ihm vergelten nach seinem Verdienst.

4 Ja (sagen1696 sie1058), er hat2603 im Mutterleibe seinen Bruder untertreten und von allen Kräften mit GOtt gekämpfet.

5 Er kämpfte mit dem Engel und430 siegete, denn er weinete und bat ihn3068; daselbst hat er ihn3068 ja zu Bethel funden und daselbst hat er mit uns geredet.

6 Aber der HErr ist der GOtt430 Zebaoth; HErr ist sein7725 Name.

7 So bekehre dich nun zu deinem GOtt, halte Barmherzigkeit und Recht und hoffe stets auf deinen GOtt!

8 Aber der Kaufmann hat4672 eine falsche Waage in seiner Hand und559 betrügt gerne.

9 Denn Ephraim spricht: Ich bin reich, ich habe genug; man wird mir keine Missetat finden in aller meiner Arbeit, das776 Sünde sei.

10 Ich aber, der HErr, bin dein GOtt aus3027 Ägyptenland her, und5030 der ich dich noch in den Hütten wohnen lasse, wie1819 man1696 zur Jahrzeit pfleget,

11 und2076 rede zu den Propheten; und ich bin‘s der so viel Weissagung gibt und durch die Propheten mich anzeige.

12 In Gilead ist‘s Abgötterei, und3290 zu8104 Gilgal opfern sie802 Ochsen vergeblich; und3478 haben5647 so viel Altäre, als Mandeln auf dem Felde7704 stehen.

13 Jakob mußte fliehen in das Land Syrien, und5030 Israel3478 mußte um ein Weib dienen, um ein Weib mußte er3068 hüten8104.

14 Aber hernach führete der HErr113 Israel aus Ägypten durch einen Propheten und ließ5203 sein hüten durch einen Propheten.

15 Nun aber erzürnet3707 ihn Ephraim669 durch ihre Götzen; darum wird, ihr Blut1818 über sie kommen, und der HErr wird ihnen vergelten7725 ihre Schmach2781.

1 EPHRAIM feeds on wind and follows after the tempest all the day long; they have multiplied lies and prey; they have made a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.

2 The LORD has a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; and according to his devices will he recompense him.

3 In the womb he deceived his brother, and by his might he became great in the presence of God;

4 Yea, he prevailed over the angel, he made supplication to him; he found him in Beth-el, and there he spoke with him.

5 Even the LORD the God of hosts has remembered him.

6 Therefore return to your God; keep mercy and justice, and wait for your God continually.

7 The balances of deceit are in the hand of Canaan, he loves to oppress.

8 And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found grief; but all my labors will not be enough to rid me of the sin which I have sinned.

9 I am the LORD your God who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. I will again make you to dwell in tents, as in the days of the solemn feasts.

10 I have spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions and used similitudes by the ministry of the prophets.

11 In Gilead you suffered pain, and in Gilgal you sacrificed bullocks to falsehood; your altars are like dry stalks in a barren field.

12 Jacob fled to the land of Aram, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.

13 And by the prophets the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by the prophets was he preserved.

14 Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly; therefore his blood shall come upon him, and his reproach shall his LORD return to him.
