Розділ 19

1 От тоді взяв Ісуса Пилат, та й звелів збичува́ти Його.

2 Вояки́ ж, сплівши з те́рну вінка, Йому покла́ли на голову, та багряни́цю наділи на Нього,

3 і приступали до Нього й казали: „Раді́й, Ца́рю Юдейський!“ І били по щоках Його.

4 Тоді вийшов назо́вні ізно́ву Пилат та й говорить до них: „Ось Його я виво́джу назо́вні до вас, щоб ви перекона́лись, що провини нія́кої в Нім не знахо́джу“.

5 І вийшов назо́вні Ісус, у терно́вім вінку та в багря́нім плащі. А Пилат до них каже: „Оце Чоловік!“

6 Як зобачили ж Його первосвященики й служба, то закричали, говорячи: „Розіпни́, розіпни́!“ Пилат каже до них: „То візьміть Його ви й розіпні́ть, — бо провини я в Нім не знахо́джу!“

7 Відказали юдеї йому: „Ми маємо Зако́на, а за Зако́ном Він мусить умерти, — бо за Божого Сина Себе видавав!“

8 Як зачув же Пилат оце слово, налякався ще більш,

9 і вернувся в прето́рій ізно́ву, і питає Ісуса: „Звідки Ти?“ Та Ісус йому відповіді не подав.

10 І каже до Нього Пилат: „Не говориш до мене? Хіба ж Ти не знаєш, що маю я вла́ду розп'я́сти Тебе, і маю вла́ду Тебе відпустити?“

11 Ісус відповів: „Надо Мною ти жодної вла́ди не мав би, коли б тобі зве́рху не да́но було́; тому більший гріх має той, хто Мене тобі ви́дав“.

12 Після цього Пилат намагався пустити Його, та юдеї кричали, говорячи: „Якщо Його пустиш, то не ке́сарів при́ятель ти! Усякий, хто себе за царя видає, противиться ке́сареві“.

13 Як зачув же Пилат оце слово, то вивів назо́вні Ісуса, і засів на судде́ве сиді́ння, на місці, що зветься літострото́н, по-гебрейському ж гавва́та.

14 Був то ж день Пригото́влення Пасхи, година була — близько шостої. І він каже юдеям: „Ось ваш Цар!“

15 Та вони закричали: „Геть, геть із Ним! Розіпни́ Його!“ Пилат каже до них: „Царя вашого маю розп'я́сти?“ Первосвященики відповіли: „Ми не маєм царя, окрім ке́саря!“

16 Ось тоді він їм видав Його, щоб розп'я́сти. Розп'яття́ Ісуса І взяли Ісуса й повели́...

17 І, нісши Свого хреста, Він вийшов на місце, Черепо́вищем зване, по-гебрейському Голго́фа.

18 Там Його розп'яли́, а з Ним ра́зом двох інших, з одно́го та з другого боку, а Ісуса всере́дині.

19 А Пилат написав і на́писа, та й умістив на хресті. Було ж там написано: „Ісус Назаряни́н, Цар Юдейський“.

20 І багато з юдеїв читали цього написа, бо те місце, де Ісус був розп'я́тий, було близько від міста. А було по-гебрейському, по-грецькому й по-римському написано.

21 Тож сказали Пилатові юдейські первосвященики: „Не пиши: Цар Юдейський, але що Він Сам говорив: Я — Цар Юдейський.

22 Пилат відповів: „Що я написав — написав!“

23 Розп'я́вши ж Ісуса, вояки́ взяли одіж Його, та й поділили на чотири частині, по частині для кожного вояка́, теж і хіто́на. А хіто́н був не шитий, а ви́тканий ці́лий відве́рху.

24 Тож сказали один до одно́го: „Не будемо дерти його, але же́реба киньмо на нього, — кому припаде́“. Щоб збуло́ся Писа́ння: „Поділили одежу Мою між собою, і метну́ли про шату Мою жеребка́“. Вояки ж це й зробили.

25 Під хрестом же Ісуса стояли — Його мати, і сестра Його матері, Марія Клео́пова, і Марія Магдали́на.

26 Як побачив Ісус матір та учня, що стояв тут, якого любив, то каже до матері: „Оце, жоно, твій син!“

27 Потім каже до учня: „Оце мати твоя!“ І з тієї години той учень узяв її до себе.

28 Потім, знавши Ісус, що вже все довершилось, щоб збулося Писа́ння, проказує: „Пра́гну!“

29 Тут стояла посу́дина, повна оцту. Вояки ж, губку оцтом напо́внивши, і на трости́ну її настромивши, підне́сли до уст Його.

30 А коли Ісус оцту прийняв, то промовив: „Звершилось!“ І, голову схиливши, віддав Свого духа.

31 Був же день Приго́товлення, тож юдеї, щоб тіла́ на хресті не зосталися в суботу, — був бо Великдень тієї суботи — просили Пилата зламати голі́нки розп'я́тим, і зняти.

32 Тож прийшли вояки́ й поламали голі́нки першому й другому, що розп'я́тий з Ним був.

33 Коли ж підійшли до Ісуса й побачили, що Він уже вмер, то голі́нок Йому не зламали,

34 та один з воякі́в списом бо́ка Йому проколов, — і зараз витекла звідти кров та вода.

35 І самовидець засвідчив, і правдиве свідо́цтво його; і він знає, що правду говорить, щоб повірили й ви.

36 Бо це сталось тому́, щоб збулося Писа́ння: „Йому кості ламати не бу́дуть!“

37 І знов друге Писа́ння говорить: „Дивитися будуть на Того, Кого́ проколо́ли“.

38 Потім Йо́сип із Арімате́ї, що був учень Ісуса, але потайни́й, — бо боявся юдеїв, — став просити Пилата, щоб тіло Ісусове взяти. І дозволив Пилат. Тож прийшов він, і взяв тіло Ісусове.

39 Прибув також і Никоди́м, — що давніше прихо́див вночі до Ісуса, — і сми́рну приніс, із ало́єм помішану, щось літрів із сто.

40 Отож, узяли вони тіло Ісусове, та й обгорнули його у полотно́ із па́хощами, як є зви́чай ховати в юдеїв.

41 На тім місці, де Він був розп'я́тий, знахо́дився сад, а в саду́ новий гріб, що в ньому ніко́ли ніхто не лежав.

42 Тож отут, — з-за юдейського дня Пригото́влення — вони покла́ли Ісуса, бо побли́зу був гріб.

Chapter 19

1 THEN Pilate had Jesus scourged.

2 A nd the soldiers wove a crown of thorns, and placed it on his head, and they covered him with purple robes;

3 And they said, Peace be to you, O king of the Jews! and they struck him on his cheeks.

4 Pilate again went outside and said to them, Behold, I bring him outside to you, so that you may know that I find not even one cause against him.

5 So Jesus went outside, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robes. And Pilate said to them, Behold the man!

6 When the high priests and the guards saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him! Pilate said to them, You take him and crucify him; for I find no cause in him.

7 The Jews said to him, We have a law, and according to our law he is guilty of death, because he made himself the Son of God.

8 When Pilate heard this saying, he was the more afraid;

9 So he entered again into the praetorium, and said to Jesus, Where do you come from? But Jesus gave him no answer.

10 Pilate said to him, Will you not speak even to me? Do you not know that I have the authority to release you, and I have the authority to crucify you?

11 Jesus said to him, You would have no authority whatever over me, if it had not been given to you from above; for this reason the sin of him who delivered me to you is greater than yours.

12 And because of this, Pilate wanted to release him; but the Jews cried out, If you release this man you are not a friend of Caesar; for whoever makes himself a king is against Caesar.

13 When Pilate heard this word, he brought Jesus outside; then he sat down on the judgment seat, at a place which is called the Stone Pavement but in Hebrew it is called, Gabbatha.

14 It was Friday of the passover, and it was about six o'clock; and he said to the Jews, Behold your king!

15 But they cried out, Take him away, take him away, crucify him, crucify him. Pilate said to them, Shall I crucify your king? The high priests said to him, We have no king except Caesar.

16 Then he delivered him to them to crucify him. So they took hold of Jesus and took him out,

17 Carrying his cross, to the place which is called The Skull, but in Hebrew it is called Golgotha;

18 Where they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between.

19 Pilate also wrote on a stone tablet, and placed it on his cross. And the writing was, THIS IS JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

20 And a great many Jews read this tablet, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew* and in Greek and in Roman.

21 The high priests then said to Pilate, Do not write that he is the king of the Jews; but that he said, I am the king of the Jews.

22 Pilate said, What I have written, I have written.

23 Now when the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four parts, a part to each of the soldiers; but his robe was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

24 So they said one to another, Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose lot it shall be. And the scripture was fulfilled, which said, They divided my clothes among them, and for my robe they cast lots. These things the soldiers did.

25 Now there were standing by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, and Mary of Cleopas, and Mary of Magdala.

26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing, he said to his mother, Woman, behold your son!

27 Then he said to the disciple, Behold your mother! And from that very hour the disciple took her with him.

28 After these things Jesus knew that everything was now accomplished; and that the scripture might be fulfilled, he said, I thirst.

29 Now there was a pitcher full of vinegar placed there; so they filled a sponge with vinegar and put it on the point of a reed, and placed it on his mouth.

30 When Jesus drank the vinegar, he said, It is fulfilled; and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

31 Now because it was Friday the Jews said, Let not these bodies remain on their crosses because the sabbath is dawning; for that sabbath was a great day. So they besought Pilate to have the legs of those who were crucified broken, and to have them lowered down.

32 So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first one, and of the other one who was crucified with him.

33 But when they came to Jesus, they saw that he was dead already, so they did not break his legs.

34 But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

35 And he who saw it testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows well that what he said is true, that you also may believe.

36 For these things happened that the scripture might be fulfilled, which said, Not even a bone shall be broken in him;

37 And again another scripture which said, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

38 After these things Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because of fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus. And Pilate granted him permission. So he came and took away the body of Jesus.

39 And there came also Nicodemus, who at first had come to Jesus by night; and he brought with him a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pints.

40 So they took away the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, according to the custom of the Jews in burial.

41 Now there was a garden in the place where Jesus was crucified; and in the garden a new tomb, in which no man was yet laid.

42 So they laid Jesus there, because the sabbath was approaching and because the tomb was near.

34 та один з воякі́в списом бо́ка Йому проколов, — і зараз витекла звідти кров та вода.	34 But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
35 І самовидець засвідчив, і правдиве свідо́цтво його; і він знає, що правду говорить, щоб повірили й ви.	35 And he who saw it testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows well that what he said is true, that you also may believe.
36 Бо це сталось тому́, щоб збулося Писа́ння: „Йому кості ламати не бу́дуть!“	36 For these things happened that the scripture might be fulfilled, which said, Not even a bone shall be broken in him;
37 І знов друге Писа́ння говорить: „Дивитися будуть на Того, Кого́ проколо́ли“.	37 And again another scripture which said, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
38 Потім Йо́сип із Арімате́ї, що був учень Ісуса, але потайни́й, — бо боявся юдеїв, — став просити Пилата, щоб тіло Ісусове взяти. І дозволив Пилат. Тож прийшов він, і взяв тіло Ісусове.	38 After these things Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because of fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus. And Pilate granted him permission. So he came and took away the body of Jesus.
39 Прибув також і Никоди́м, — що давніше прихо́див вночі до Ісуса, — і сми́рну приніс, із ало́єм помішану, щось літрів із сто.	39 And there came also Nicodemus, who at first had come to Jesus by night; and he brought with him a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pints.

42 Тож отут, — з-за юдейського дня Пригото́влення — вони покла́ли Ісуса, бо побли́зу був гріб.	42 So they laid Jesus there, because the sabbath was approaching and because the tomb was near.
