2 раздели землю на три части, а потом выбери в каждой части город, к которому близко всем в этой округе, и проложи в тот город дороги, чтобы любой человек, убивший другого, мог спастись в этом городе. |

4 Вот какое правило существует для того, кто, убив человека, спасается бегством в один из этих трёх городов: это должен быть человек, который убил другого случайно, а не из ненависти к нему. |
|
5 Если человек пошёл с кем-то в лес рубить дрова, размахнулся топором, чтобы срубить дерево, а лезвие топора сорвалось с рукоятки и, попав в другого человека, убило его, то замахнувшийся топором может бежать в один из трёх городов и спастись. |
|
6 Если же тот город слишком далеко, то он может не успеть добежать туда, и если близкий родственник убитого погонится за ним и поймает прежде, чем тот успеет добежать до города, то в гневе может убить этого человека, хотя он и не заслуживает смерти, так как не испытывал ненависти к убитому им. |
|
7 Вот почему Я велю вам выбрать три таких города. |
|
8 Господь, Бог твой, обещал твоим предкам, что расширит пределы твоей земли. Он отдаст тебе все земли, которые обещал твоим предкам, |
|
9 если ты будешь в точности исполнять Его заповеди, которые я даю тебе сегодня, будешь любить Господа, Бога своего, и жить, как Он того желает. Когда же Господь расширит пределы твоей страны, выбери ещё три города-убежища и прибавь их к первым трём, |
|
10 и тогда в той земле, которую Бог даёт тебе, не будут убивать невинных, и ты не будешь повинен ни в чьей смерти. |
|
11 Но если человек спрячется, поджидая своего соседа, и из ненависти убьёт его, а затем убежит в один из тех городов-убежищ, |
|
12 то старейшины города должны послать за ним, чтобы вывести его из города-убежища и передать близкому родственнику убитого. Убийца должен быть предан смерти. |
|
13 Не проявляй к нему жалости, потому что он повинен в убийстве невинного. Сними эту вину с Израиля, и тогда всё у тебя будет хорошо». |

16 Свидетель может солгать, чтобы повредить другому, сказав, что тот человек совершил какой-либо проступок, |
|
17 и тогда пусть они оба идут в святой дом Господний, и пусть священник и судья, которые будут в то время на службе, рассудят их. |
|
18 Судьи должны тщательно расспросить их, и если установят, что свидетель оболгал того человека, то |
|
19 пусть свидетель будет наказан. С ним должны поступить так же, как он замышлял сделать своему брату, и тогда ты устранишь грех из своего народа. |
|
20 Услышав об этом, другие люди испугаются и больше не будут творить такое зло. |
|
21 Не жалей того, кто наказан за проступок: если человек отнял жизнь, пусть заплатит своей жизнью. Правило такое: око за око, зуб за зуб, руку за руку, ногу за ногу». |

1 WHEN the LORD your God has destroyed the nations whose land the LORD your God gives you, and you shall possess them and dwell in their cities, and in their houses; |
|
2 You shall set apart for you three cities in the midst of your land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance. |
|
3 You shall prepare for you a highway, and divide into three parts the land which the LORD your God gives you to inherit, that any slayer may flee thither. |
|
4 And this is the law in the case of the slayer who kills his neighbor and flees there that he may live, whosoever kills his neighbor unintentionally, whom he hated not in time past; |
|
5 And when a man goes into the forest with his neighbor to cut wood, and as he lifts up his hand with the axe to cut down a tree, the iron head slips from the helve and strikes his neighbor so that he dies; he shall flee to one of these cities, and live; |
|
6 Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his anger is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; though he was not worthy of death, because he hated him not in time past. |
|
7 Therefore I command you, saying, You shall set apart three cities for you. |
|
8 And when the LORD your God shall enlarge your territory, as he has sworn to your fathers, and gives you all the land which he promised to give to your fathers; |
|
9 If you shall keep all these commandments to do them, which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in his ways always; then you shall add three cities more for you besides these three; |
|
10 That innocent blood may not be shed in the land which the LORD your God gives you, and that the guilt of innocent blood not be upon you. |
|
11 But if any man hate his neighbor, and lie in wait for him, and attack him, and smite him mortally so that he dies, and he flees to one of these cities; |
|
12 Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him from there, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, and he shall slay him. |
|
13 Your eyes shall not pity him, but you shall kill him, and thus purge the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with you. |
|
14 You shall not remove your neighbor's landmark, which they of old time have set in your inheritance, which you shall inherit in the land that the LORD your God gives you to possess. |
|
15 A single witness shall not rise up against a man for any offense, or for any crime, in whatever offense or crime he may commit; on the testimony of two witnesses, or on the testimony of three witnesses, shall a charge be established. |
|
16 If a false witness rise up against any man, and testify against him that which is wrong; |
|
17 Then both the men between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges who shall be in those days; |
|
18 And the judges shall investigate the case diligently; and, behold, if the witness has deliberately testified falsely against his brother; |
|
19 Then you shall do to him as he had thought to do to his brother; so shall you put the evil away from among you. |
|
20 And those who remain shall hear, and fear, and shall never again commit any such an evil thing among you. |
|
21 And your eye shall not pity; but life shall be for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot. |

8 Господь, Бог твой, обещал твоим предкам, что расширит пределы твоей земли. Он отдаст тебе все земли, которые обещал твоим предкам, |
8 And when the LORD your God shall enlarge your territory, as he has sworn to your fathers, and gives you all the land which he promised to give to your fathers; |
|
9 если ты будешь в точности исполнять Его заповеди, которые я даю тебе сегодня, будешь любить Господа, Бога своего, и жить, как Он того желает. Когда же Господь расширит пределы твоей страны, выбери ещё три города-убежища и прибавь их к первым трём, |
9 If you shall keep all these commandments to do them, which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in his ways always; then you shall add three cities more for you besides these three; |

10 и тогда в той земле, которую Бог даёт тебе, не будут убивать невинных, и ты не будешь повинен ни в чьей смерти. |
10 That innocent blood may not be shed in the land which the LORD your God gives you, and that the guilt of innocent blood not be upon you. |

11 Но если человек спрячется, поджидая своего соседа, и из ненависти убьёт его, а затем убежит в один из тех городов-убежищ, |

20 Услышав об этом, другие люди испугаются и больше не будут творить такое зло. |
20 And those who remain shall hear, and fear, and shall never again commit any such an evil thing among you. |
|
21 Не жалей того, кто наказан за проступок: если человек отнял жизнь, пусть заплатит своей жизнью. Правило такое: око за око, зуб за зуб, руку за руку, ногу за ногу». |
21 And your eye shall not pity; but life shall be for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot. |
